Treasure Island’s 11 Best Beach Eats - Eater Miami

"Tampa-style Cuban sandwiches just minutes from the sand? Only in Treasure Island. Owners Val and Ted Diler moved to Treasure Island in 1992 from Tampa and knew the beach was in dire need of a certain sandwich and the restaurant was born. Opt for an order of the traditionally pressed sandwiches, with the diagonal slice and wax paper wrap that some say are best in the area, and that includes the old-school folks in Ybor City." - ArielleStevenson

What can I say—this place is simply unbeatable! I've been coming here for years, both before and after the historic 100-year TI storm surge, and it never disappoints. The Cuban Sandwich here is hands down the best I've ever had. Even if you order the massive 12-inch with the intention of saving half for later, trust me—you’ll end up finishing the whole thing on the spot. It’s that good. Once you’ve eaten a Cuban here, no other place even comes close. Highly recommended for anyone in search of the real deal. Thanks for consistently serving up excellence!

Google
My husband and I both got the 12” Cuban sandwiches and they were huge and delicious!!! Lots of meat for a Cuban and the bread was crunchy and perfectly pressed! We also got the black beans and rice which were excellent as well. The guys working there were very nice ☺️We will definitely be back!

Google
Always the best Cuban sandwich around. Beats out the Colombian by a mile! And the rice and beans (plus a little Cholula hot sauce) are also excellent. You can order here from postmates for pickup and there is no fee, but the prices are higher. I attached the latest menu for you to be able to compare and decide for yourself. I usually just phone in my order.

Google
After having a long weekend at the beach ! We were making our way home.. but we decided to try this amazing sandwich spot! Thank god we did! 10/10 Cuban sandwiches, it just melted in my mouth! Don’t forget to try the Florida bean soup! Perfect spice ! Will be back more often when visiting the beach! Highly recommend!!!!!

Google
Very nice little sandwich shop with beer. Plenty of outside seating including very comfortable bar chairs. There is no bar but the bar style chairs are on the terrace. Great prices for all you get. And they have happy hour. Sufficient parking too.

Google
It's a very unassuming place just over the causeway on Treasure Island but DO NOT drive past. When you go in and look around you notice that it's simple, but everything is done with care. It's neat as a pin and everything is a little nicer than you'd expect. Everything is very clean and well-maintained, even the lids for the cups of soda are nice. Before you take a bite you're going to know that the restaurant is run with love. As for that food, it's the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. I got the 1/2 sandwich combo with black beans and rice. It came with Cuban bread that was gridled with butter and I could have made a meal out of that. I didn't, mind you. The beans and rice were fantastic. It was a nice big cup and I licked it clean. As for that sandwich, it was perfectly composed and expertly toasted. I've been eating Cuban sandwiches for more than 50 years and this was the best. It's such a nice place for lunch. They have a clean, comfortable outside dining area with that salty breeze coming off the gulf. You're going to feel like you're in paradise.

Google
Best Cuban sandwiches on this side of the bay. Bread is baked to perfection and pressed crispy on the outside, fresh tasty meats, and the best creamy mustard sauce on any cuban I've ever had. Plenty of covered outdoor seating and limited indoor seating. This place is worth the visit.

Google
Well…what can I say. We recently visited La Segunda Central Bakery in Ybor City as we had read it was historic and had one of the best Cuban sandwiches. It was good, but I have to say that this Cuban sandwich from The Floridian was hands down the better of the two. It simply was superb. The flavour, the bread and the cuts of meat and blend between mustard and pickles. I’m genuinely blown away by how good this was. Well done to the Team. We will be coming back for another one. Sorry no photos as stuck right in.

Yelp
In town to visit family and my brother found this Cuban Sandwich restaurant to try. We placed our order at the counter and took our beers to the outdoor patio. Our food was delivered quickly and did not last long. The sandwiches were awesome. All in $35

Yelp
If your on Treasure Island and looking for a quick bite to eat, this should be a place you consider. I ordered half Cuban with a side of black beans and yellow rice. Cuban was pretty traditional, served on pressed Cuban bread. The ham had a sweet taste to it and just hot enough to melt the mayo/mustard mixture. The beans and rice were good, could have used a little salt. Plenty of outside seating and limited seating inside. The building could use some updates, but perhaps it adds to the charm of "The Floridian." The employees were cranking out a lot of to-go orders but still managed to keep the wait to a minimum.

Yelp
Huge disappointment. I went to the Tampa location on Kennedy and was thrilled. This Treasure Island location has the same name, but not the same menu! My sandwich was just an ordinary sandwich. Yet they're still claiming to have the number one best Cuban sandwiches on their menu. They're playing off the reputation of the Tampa location, without the Tampa locations menu or quality.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp, I found a great place for a Cuban. Got my food to go and sat on the nearby beach. Though there are places to sit, a few inside and tables and chairs outside. Still craving that sandwich! The bread was excellent, too.

Yelp
For a sub shop on the beach, this place was so good! We stopped in after a long beach day cuz we heard this place was the shit! So ofc we had to go see for ourselves. I got a 12in Cuban classic, and Kevin got a spiced pork sandwich. The Cuban was the better of the two in both of our opinions. The mustard and pickles were perfect for a little tangy taste. The buttered bread was just crispy enough but not overdone, perfect. We got draft beers to enjoy our sandwiches with. So fucking good. Definitely coming back here before we fly out on Thursday. Yelp
My husband and I were excited about coming here and having an authentic Cuban sandwich as advertised. Well, what we ordered and what we got was not a Cuban sandwich! It was a ham mayo, mustard, small piece of pickle, maybe a slice of cheese, a slice of pork, but not the roasted flavored pork that makes a Cuban sandwich authentic. How they getaway with calling it an authentic Cuban sandwich is beyond me! The best part of our sandwich was the toasted Cuban bread. Take a look for yourselves.

Yelp
We wanted to try the recommended Cuban sandwiches here so we did! The beans and rice were my favorite item on the menu. The sandwiches were crunchy, somewhat pressed and fresh but not the best we've had. The spicy pork sandwich was short on pork and even shorter on spice. The folks were nice and it was clean but I don't think we'll be back for Cubans. We much prefer Bodega! We've not had much luck with restaurants on the beach. How about you? Life is good when you try a local spot!

Yelp
Craving a Cuban sandwich in the middle of St.Petersburg and stumbled into the Floridian. The menu is short and to the point. The man who took are order at the counter, let's just say could have better customer service skills but over all not too bad. The bathrooms could really use some attention and an update. I ordered the Cuban combo which seems to be there specialty -- it comes served with rice and beans. The sandwich itself was pretty good but certainly not the best I've had -- after all I am a Miami girl. I found a clump of seasoning mix at the bottom of my beans and rice and it had me wondering if it's some kind of pre mix/package. So wasn't a fan of that Over all The Floridian offers a quick bite in a popular area of town if your in a pinch.

Yelp
First stop when I come to treasure island is always a Cuban from the Floridian. The service is quick and all the workers are so nice. The bread is the best part of the sandwich hands down! It's so flaky and has a great bite. Holds up to everything inside nicely. I always enjoy eating the leftovers cold, personally think it tastes better like that.

Yelp
The Miami vs Tampa/St Pete Cuban Sandwich debate continues. Being from the former, I've had my share of Cuban sandwiches. On previous trips to St. Pete, we've had the ones from Bodega a few times. Those are definitely very solid sandwiches, but seemed better 2 years ago before the location changed up and became maybe a little too hip and combined with a juice bar. The Floridian definitely had a solid sandwich, and some great rice and beans to go along with it. Nice little protein-packed punch of a lunch that doesn't hurt the wallet too much. Really dug the old Florida beach vibes and genuine feel to the place. I don't need a fake grass covered wall and cute neons, just give me a little shack like this that knows what it does and does it well and I'm happy.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
I was born and lived in St. Pete for 38 years. I never came here, until today. Not impressed at all. The meat was like lunch meat. The black beans and rice where blah. The bread was OK. My husband said if he wanted Subway, he would have gone there. The salt had something in it, and it wasn't rice. The bottle of hot sauce looked old and gross also.
google avatar

Jo W.

Yelp
Perfectly pressed sandwiches. This is one of my favorite places to stop and get a sandwich and take it to treasure island or sunset beach for lunch. They've got indoor and outdoor seating available. All the employees are super nice. The Cuban is my absolute favorite from there but the last time I went I got a Turkey, cheese, and spicy mustard sandwich and that did not disappoint at all! So good and so fresh

Yelp
Been coming to this beachy little place since I could walk. And yes beachy means I'd walk over from the beach and get the best Cuban sandwich in town. Authentic bread and ingredients. I really wish they'd bring back the deviled crab but I'm just glad this place is still going strong. Really friendly service with an old Florida vibe inside.

Lori R.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this place if you are hungry for an amazing Cuban sandwich! The bread was delicious! The service was fast and the person who delivered our food was so sweet! If I lived in this area, this would be my go to sandwich place!!!

Neil W.

Yelp
One of my go to places every time I visit the Treasure Island area. Best Cuban sandwich in the area. Friendly service.
google avatar

Ethan B.

Yelp
Stopped here to grab dinner to go on the way back from a day out. Nice little place right off the bridge as you come onto the island. Really like Cuban food so thought this would be a good idea, and we were not disappointed!! Ordered the Cuban combo to go. Came with a black bean soup with extra white onions to add and a piece of bread. The soup was very flavorful and had some nice spices to it. The sandwich was great!! Perfect Cuban sandwich, light mayo/mustard combo, ham and pickles were thick slices, and the bread pressed firm. Can't say enough good things! Quick service and cute area. As definitely to try!

Yelp
Great Cuban sandwiches and the black beans and rice were delicious as well ! Nothing fancy inside - but the food is great.

Yelp
This was our first visit to The Floridian and we would highly recommend it. Our waitress, Amanda, was friendly and glad to spend time on menu item descriptions and recommendations despite being extremely busy. I started with a Swamp Pony, similar to a mojito with ginger syrup and Angostura bitters - this was excellent and looked pretty cool too. For dinner my wife had the Golden Curry with tofu and she raved about this. I had the Cornbread Stack with flounder and this was just amazing!! I marveled over how the chef accomplished this dish - a beautiful open crumb on the very thick slices of cheddar and veggie stuffed cornbread and a perfectly grilled piece of flounder on top of the cornbread with chimmichurri aioli. We live 5-6 hours away so I'll have to dream about our next visit to The Floridian.

Yelp
Really great, reasonably priced Cuban sandwich. No frills here, just good Cubans. this is a place I'd return to many times if I lived here.

Jinmyung L.

Yelp
I visited Floridian in 9 yrs. I always missed their sandwiches. Delicious tuna combo with my bestie.
google avatar

Yelp
Still one of my favorite Cuban sandwiches on Florida's west coast. Meats are absolutely delicious and seasoned perfectly. Order at the register and pay and they'll bring your food to you. Decent beer selection and soda fountain. Bread pressed and toasted just right with a tangy mustard. This one has the salami added but honestly, that helps make this a fave. #stevensleavin

Yelp
Conveniently located a short walk from the beach, we came here for Cuban sandwiches lunch and was left disappointed. The Cuban bread and texture gave it three stars because the Cuban bread was delicious and toasted perfectly but most of the contents was ham unfortunately. The pork was nonexistent and there was barely any cheese or pretty much any of the other ingredients .. it just felt like you were eating a ham sandwich. I actually took the excess off and fed it to the birds Looking to try the bodega next during my stay in the St. Petersburg area.

Yelp
This is a real deal Cuban sandwich place. I grew up buying Cubans at L'Ideal a few blocks from my high school of Tampa Jesuit. I didn't think I was going to find a place that could match those memories, but on a recent trip back home I did - at The Floridian. Succulent roast pork and ham; savory salami (it's not a Cuban without it); tart pickles, and nutty swiss cheese topped off with mayo and mustard in pressed Cuban bread. I'm looking forward to trying the Devil Crab on my next visit. This was not just a hit with me; my Virginia raised kids loved it too (and now they want to move to Florida!).
google avatar

Joel W.

Yelp
Best Cuban on the beach. Get the black beans and rice side too. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Kath C.

Yelp
3.5 stars. We ordered 3 Cuban sandwiches. All of us agreed that the sandwiches were very short on pickles (hardly any) and the bread was rock hard - the kind that cuts your gums when you bite into it. We actually liked the sandwiches better then next day when we microwaves the leftovers and it softened the bread. So... good, not great. Esp for being in Florida.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
not a bad cuban, good place to stop by for a quick bite love the bread and crunch from the press pork leaves something to be desired shop could've been a little cleaner

John D.

Yelp
Awesome Cubans at this location! Nice, friendly service as well. Definitely recommend!

John S.

Yelp
Great sandwich and quality soup. Strongly recommended. Packaging good as well. All and all a good experience.

Kyle L.

Yelp
Awesome food. And fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend ordering the Cuban sandwich. Best in town!! They have seating inside & outside.

Yelp
Sad to say I didn't get to stop in this place had to get to the airport . Hopefully some day on my next visit I will get the opportunity to try it
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
What a gem! We went here to try their Cuban sandwiches and they absolutely did not disappoint. So delicious, the bread was especially good. Rice and beans are also on point, definitely recommend.

Yelp
We had takeout the other night. It was the first time. I had heard really good things about this place. The food was good; however, nothing was anything that I would rave about. It didn't stand out to me but I did enjoy the food.

Alayna D.

Yelp
I've lived in the area for 5 years and still haven't had a better Cuban. The staff is friendly and the Cubans are always amazing.

Ron F.

Yelp
This visit was very disappointing. I have been enjoying the "famous"Floridian Cuban seasonally for over 10 years and have recommended this faithfully ever since. However, things seemed have changed there. The service is always great. But, the quality has dropped significantly. I ordered a 12" Cuban and was very disappointed to see very little to no meat or pickles. I did have a bit of meat in the center of the sandwich but, not throughout and nothing compared to last spring. The restaurant did not appear to be busy (8pm) to write the poor sandwich assembly off to being busy. I have heard a few of the same type of comments from friends within the last couple of weeks. I've included a picture showing my sandwich, (sad )...no meat?? I'm not ready to give up on The Floridian and will give it another chance. But, if this is the new standard, I'll go elsewhere. Give it a try. But, beware... if made the old way you'll not find a better Cuban in the area.
google avatar

Marc G.

Yelp
I have been ordering the Cuban Sandwich and black bean soup for years. Delicious Food and friendly service.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
Wowee! The Cuban lives up to its reputation. Can't wait to get another the next time we're in town. Fantastic.

Rich B.

Yelp
Skimpy sandwich, only hade 2 slices of deli ham and no pork. The worst Cuban I ever had. This place went downhill fast. I had a Cuban there last March and it was very good.
google avatar

Corey H.

Yelp
Two efficient twenty something guys worked their butts off making sandwich after sandwich at this very casual beachy "order at the counter and they'll call out your number" place. The Cuban and the pork sandwiches were perfection as were the beans and rice. Plenty of outside seating and maybe 7 inside tables. Num!
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
This, my friends, is the stuff dreams are made of. You will have the finest Cuban sandwich ever and go back to your everyday life. From then on, you will plot and scheme to make your way back to The Floridian and its most excellent sandwich. Do they have other things on the menu? I'm sure they do, but I only have eyes for the Cuban.
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
The Cuban sandwich is worth every single bite. Served on Cuban bread , pressed perfectly. The sauce is amazingly good. Got the 9 inch easily can be shared but ate it all! Worth the wait since it's made fresh. Good place to get a yummy sandwich if you are vacationing in the area of course there is more on the menu.

Tami F.

Yelp
We have been to the Floridian too many times to count. Always a good, solid Cuban. Our last visit was a bit disappointing.... Bread was old and meat on the sandwich was on the light side. Seemed to be a whole new, younger crew working. We will check it again and hope for better next time.

Jay S.

Yelp
A had a Cuban sandwich. The meat was cold, not room temp. It was straight out of a refrigerator. Someone needs to call the health department. The dining area was gross. Not a single clean table. Dust on top the light grease film, all over the dining area. The self fill drink station needs to be wiped down. The place is GROSS
google avatar

Tara F.

Yelp
Very disappointed ! Had read the raving reviews , but this was not like an original Cuban . There was no roasted pork only a few slivers of lunch meat pork and a pile of ham. They were also out of black beans and rice.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Meh. Took a looong time(on a slow Monday), to throw some Roasted Turkey meat(nothing more special than what you can get at Publix), and some Swiss cheese between some toasted bread. No lettuce, no tomatoes, no spinach added(yes, I know as described on the menu), but still, I mean come on. Do better
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Excellent Cuban Sandwiches. I also like the Turkey. Great service! You won't be sorry!
google avatar

Carlos M.

Yelp
The best Cuban sandwich at the beach. I love this place. They have great beans and rice too.
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
Used to be a for sure five star in my book, but things aren't evolving or getting better. Just got refused service at 8:57 PM; signage has always indicated open till 9 PM. Called at 8:50 and it rang 20 times with no voicemail, so I got in the car and drove them not 10 minutes away. Neon open sign still was on, several people inside cleaning up/closing down. Things seem to be going downhill. I'll try again shortly and revise plus/minus another star, based on experience.
google avatar

Jack B.

Yelp
it was ok, im not sure how they get so highly rated, really nothing super special and the crab thing was not my thing, maybe just not my taste best part was the beans
google avatar

Michele G.

Yelp
Love the Floridian. They have the best crab rolls and Cubans around the gentleman who is always behind the counter. The owner is so nice do yourself a favor and go grab lunch or dinner

Annabelle M.

Yelp
The food is alright but the service is terrible. I ordered a sandwich and paid extra for tomato, lettuce, and jalapeños. They didn't put lettuce or tomato on it so when I went to tell them they blatantly ignored me standing there for as long as they possibly could before I could finally tell them, they proceeded to tell me they did not have lettuce so I asked them to put tomato on there. As I was waiting for them to acknowledge my existence I watched a woman tell them REPEATEDLY that she could not have pickles or any cross contamination as she was extremely allergic, they proceeded to put pickle on there and when she told them she couldn't have it they flung it off her sandwich. The food isn't that great, the terrible service outweighs it completely. Do not expect to go in and get what you ordered, or for them to treat you as if you're anything more than a nuisance.
