"The kitschy, casual destination continues to include favorites, like the green eggs and ham with poblano pesto; the Cowboy Curtis with seared flank steak, “Wildwest” sauce and fried eggs; or the granola. The space itself offers a bit of nostalgic whimsy, with works of art prominently displayed and a subtle, vintage rock vibe. This petit space does not take reservations, so plan accordingly. This place is really a hidden gem!! It's small and quirky and has tons of personality and charm hidden everywhere!! The staff was super friendly and relatable, the cooks came out on the floor smiling and look genuinely happy working here. It was really fast service and there were tons of healthy options and very different variety of foods. The menu was small but still had tons of great choices, they have special beverages like beer/ale and fancy coffees. Also have their own line of Jams and Sauces!! I'll definitely be back :)

Google
Really lives up to the hype! I had the crab cakes and eggs for breakfast and they were flavorful and crispy. My husband had the gingerbread waffles with syrup. I love they make their own jam and hot sauce; you can really taste the difference. Even though they were busy, our waitress was pleasant and attentive. I also received several refills on my coffee. Definitely recommend for a fun breakfast or brunch.

I was working in the area, so I decided to stop here on my break for something to eat. I'd never been here before, but I'd definitely be back again. I ordered the Charmoula Chicken sandwich with swiss instead of the usual cheese. I got the breakfast potatoes as a side. I got a makeshift Arnold Palmer as my drink. The sandwich was warm, comforting, and delicious. The cheese complimented the onions perfectly and came together to make a delicious sandwich on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. The potatoes were garlicky and crispy and paired great dipped in some ketchup. The tea-lemonade hybrid was super refreshing and not overly sweet or tart. My server Jessy was absolutely amazing and had no problem answering all of my questions and accommodating my changes. She was so sweet and had a big smile on her face that brightened my morning. I would definitely come back for the great (and filling) food and great service! Thank you to everyone involved in this great spot!

Finally, the first time here and Carolynne gave us an awesome experience with here awesome service! I ordered the burrito w/potatoes and it was great with a the cucumber lemonade belli. The wait wasn't extremely long. It was a good day!

Arrived just before the lunch hour. Place filled up at noon. Very friendly staff. Food was absolutely delicious. Coffee cup was never empty. Staff was on point.

Google
Great little diner, food was excellent. I had the Cowboy Curtis (steak and eggs). I asked for my steak to be rare, and it was cooked perfectly. It was tender and delicious, much better than I expected at a diner. There was about a 20-25 wait but it went quickly Jessi (our server) was fantastic! Service was very quick and attentive. Will definitely be back!!

Google
We visited for our first time yesterday. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and unique. The decor was adorable. It was steady but not too busy and the staff kept everyone moving. Overall we really enjoyed our visit and highly recommend checking it out.

Google
First time here and maybe we picked bad timing to try something different. We waited almost 1 hour for a table for 3. My burger was good but it was very messy to eat and it was almost well done. The burrito was filling but was missing something to make it yummy. The other dish was slightly over cooked and bland. I'm not sure if we will try again

Yelp
Always fantastic... From the food to the service to the ambiance everything is consistently on point And don't forget housemade hot sauces and jams A true gem

Yelp
Was in on a Saturday afternoon with a friend, and the place was hoppin' The line wasn't too bad, and it went super fast. After being seated, got the privilege of meeting one of the best waitresses I've ver had the pleasure of dealing with! (Unfortunately didn't get her name) she was cheery and on top of everything! I had the Forager....simply delicious! And IYKYK....accentuate your meal with their housemade hot sauces and top your toast with the homemade jam! This place is back under the management of the old owners and I couldn't be happier. Don't miss out on this Ferndale gem!

Yelp
MUST VISIT!! Traveled to Detroit for college football game. I always look up DDD locations Guy has been to. This spot didn't disappoint. We were seated quickly on a mid Saturday morning. Line built up while we were eating. Inside is amazing! Love the unique touches around the location. All the wait staff were nice. Our waitress gave great recommendations. My son ordered the biscuits and gravy special. Note they only serve on weekends. ordered the forager scramble. Both were A plus. Make sure you get the homemade jam for your toast. If you order the mini muffins get more than one. They are light and delicious.

Yelp
This is a fantastic breakfast spot with delicious choices, fast and friendly service with something on the menu for everyone. That being said, and this is not a criticism but just so other Yelpers know, the prices on the Yelp site are severely outdated and are probably closer to 60% - 90% more than what's seen on this site. Things that are listed as $6.95 for instance are more like $12.95. Still well worth it, and would recommend.

Yelp
Solid spot! Really cool diner ambiance. Went at 7pm on a Friday and it was pretty quiet in there since it closes at 8pm. The service was great! Went with a diet coke and the brekky burger. The coke was pretty flat but that's alright. The burger was delicious though! Really satisfied my craving. Flavorful and juicy with a perfectly cooked egg. I also liked the thick bacon. The fries were also great. My friend got the brisket and it was delicious. Rye toasted on both sides, stuffed with brisket and an amazing sauce combo. This might become our go-to spot in the area for when those burger cravings hit!

Frank H.

Yelp
Food was great again, but good lord does Megan suck the life out of every table they wait. When you visit, you'll either have the best service ever or have to deal with that cloud of negativity. Except for when they hand you the bill to sign, of course, then suddenly they're a totally different person. We'll be back hoping our table is in the jurisdiction of the older lady with the hoodie and glasses. She's a rockstar and we missed her dearly during our last visit.

Dayja T.

Yelp
Service could have been better. Was sat next to a table of people who were clearly regulars. The difference in treatment was palpable. We had to ask numerous times (and staff) for the check; never received condiments we asked for, and the waitress was generally not very kind. There were missing menu items (waffles) that we weren't told were unavailable until we ordered it. Otherwise, the strawberry lemonade was good (and sweet). The hot Italian omelette was also good. The garlic potatoes were great. We were told the wait would be speedy - it literally was not. Unsure if this applies to the entire place, but the section we sat in was VERY loud. My Apple Watch sent me a "loud volume" alert lol.

Yelp
Hands down the best breakfast in Michigan. I have been to all the top spots throughout the state. Sorry, this is a GEM and just flat out great. From service to food you can't go wrong. BLATC AND Their sandwiches for the win. You will not be disappointed. Oh yeah, they make their own potatoes, jam and hot sauce. Shut the front door!

Mary M.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from this restaurant and was not disappointed. My selection was The Forager which came with home-fried potatoes and toast (I picked sourdough). The eggs were delicious, the vegetables were cooked just right, the mushrooms were the perfect texture and the cheese was melted in and generous. The toast could have been more toasted for my taste, but I prefer my toast on the browner side and pretty crispy. The level of toastiness for this toast was pretty standard across breakfast orders I've made at many places. It tasted like real butter on the toast and it was the perfect amount of butter- spread evenly but not too much to be greasy. The potatoes were crispy and brown. My only wish is that there had been a side of jam accompanying my order since they make their own and my dish came with toast. I have heard the house made jam is awesome!

Elaine W.

Yelp
Been here many times and love it every time! Tried something different today: omelet and their new lemongrass faux bowl. Omelet is a 10/10! Egg is fluffy, contents are generous, flavor is exceptional! Pairs well with all their house made hot sauce selections as well. Also the buttery toast with their house made jam really adds to the meal every time! The faux bowl is a new item. Not a big fan of it mostly due to the surprise factor of the flavor profile. It tastes kinda like a Tom yum soup. Sour, sweet and a little spicy. Noodle is udon. Again very generous content and portion, just wasn't expecting the flavor. Ambiance is wonderful! Loud but fun! All the waitresses are super friendly. We especially liked our waitress! Don't know her name but she is tall, pretty with blonde hair! She was super attentive, patient, and did a great job answering our questions. Overall, highly recommend this palace!

Elyse G.

Yelp
Such a cute retro friendly breakfast spot great food! Lively atmosphere. Sit at bar or table. Healthy options

Jen M.

Yelp
Long waits but great breakfast and brunch! Dining area can get crowded and loud but it's okay. I love the fun salt shakers. The service is nice too. Really good jam. Hot sauces are all unique.

Karley M.

Yelp
Loved the ambience here including the dining area with a bar. I stopped in with friends for breakfast and the service was so friendly and prompt. Food was overall pretty good. My friend said her tofu wrap didn't have much flavor however. The sourdough bread was delicious and I enjoyed the ham as well. All the hot sauces and jam were a great bonus.

Wood W.

Yelp
Casual dining, nice staff, very good food. Generous portions. They make a delicious Spanish coffee.

Ben V.

Yelp
This place is very impressive! The interior gives diner vibes but a cool twist. My chicken sandwich blew my mind. It came with a spiced chicken thigh, cheese, caramelized onion and a lemon aioli that popped off. The bread was warm and toasted and great for a cold day. The chop chop salad and fries were also very tasty. I recommend coming here during the week as it can be tough to get it on the weekends!

Michael T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Great server. Great food. Great for family (toddler). Great morning ambiance. Called ahead and they said should be no wait. Indeed there was none for two adults and one kid. Got seated right away and served despite it being busy. Ordered steak and eggs and huevos rancheros. Both were hits. Steak was flank steak and two eggs over easy to get the morning started with good lean protein. Food came out fast. Ordered Medium for steak and it came out well done. Told the waitress and she was EXTREMELY attentive and brought out another steak in 5 minutes, this time medium. Perfect. They have a variety of hot sauces. They are house made and very unique and tasty. Their house made jams are delicious as well. Our baby was indeed extra work but our server was very accommodating. We were on a time crunch and they accommodated us very well.

Kris M.

Yelp
This was my first time coming here. Was not sure what to order my friend who I came with knew just what she wanted she loves this place. I got help from my neighbors food at the bar and went with what they ordered I got the Red flannel Hash no beet it was good. Ordered me a little Ginger Lemon Mimosas it was very good. This place had a good vibe and great energy. Can't wait to come back!!!

Vernon B.

Yelp
A place I go by frequently, and don't think to go in. After several years, it finally occurred to me "hey I can finally go in." I had the B.L.A.T+C... the classic. Perfect combination of bacon, spinach, avocado and cheese, all wrapped in the fluffiest eggs I've ever had. Actually, it was my plan B. I originally ordered the deep fried biscuit bowl. Sadly they were sold out. Great laid back atmosphere and super service. I really just need to go in more often.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Delicious. There's no other words. The gingerbread waffle was amazing. I could- and would, eat it every day. The chamoula Chicken sandwich was delicious. Melty cheese. Caramelized onions. Juicy chicken thigh. Just.. perfectly executed. The tomato vinaigrette on the side salad was delicious, and really made the salad. The assorted salt and pepper shakers are a nice touch to the tables, always a fun vibe. Great service despite the servers being super busy!

Danielle J.

Yelp
The food was amazing ... however the service not so much. I would get a carry out from this place but I would not sit down to eat again. Our waitress was not too friendly or tentative at all. The greeting from the hostess was dry. It was just not a welcoming atmosphere. I would definable recommend trying take out from here though. The red flannel hash was really good.

Frederick R.

Yelp
This place is amazing Food is great breakfast or sandwiches Beer special is great $2 drafts Please please please try this gem now!!

Jim H.

Yelp
As much as I love The Fly Trap there is one manager who is completely rude. She does everything possible to embarrass a person with a service dog. We have shown credentials 3 times and she continues to try to ignore them. Probably illegal and will get the police involved next time. It's that bad!!

Cathy Y.

Yelp
Loved the homemade sauces, especially on the rambler. And they also had a Pina colada jam which definitely tasted like a Pina Colada! Quick and friendly service.

Debbie B.

Yelp
Was in town and looking for a local restaurant, saw other reviews and decided to give it a try. It did not disappoint! Food and service were both exceptional; can't wait to go back and try something different.

Chris M.

Yelp
Strange name, but a great breakfast. This place has a neat, fun atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, and the food is really good. The brekkie sandwich really hit the spot. Again, everyone here is incredibly friendly and helpful. This is a great spot for either lunch or breakfast!

Taylor M.

Yelp
Finally got to try this place out! Went on a Saturday morning and got to sit right down. Food was excellent! They pickle their own veggies (pickled celery in the bloody Mary was exceptionally good) and make their own jams and sauces which I really appreciate. Service was friendly and attentive. Everything was really reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back!

Abiba S.

Yelp
I've been meaning to check out The Fly Trap for some time now and finally got to check it out for brunch! This diner perfectly matches the hipster vibe that Ferndale is known for and feels homey and welcoming. This is the perfect place for a fun weekend brunch! Our waitress was super friendly and recommended we try their new cinnamon roll which is slowly replacing the rotating muffin flavors. Starting with the cinnamon roll because it was TRULY the star of the show! Most cinnamon rolls that I've tried have been overly sweet or too dense. This roll was packed with cinnamon and other warm spices, fluffy and top with a cream cheese frosting that wasn't too sweet. The photo doesn't do it justice but you have to try the cinnamon roll! Can't wait to go back for another one. While I was here I also tried their burger which comes with fries. The burger itself was okay. Nothing too exciting but to be fair they're better known for their classic breakfast foods. The burger was pretty bland and honestly disappointing. Keeping my review at 4 stars because the crab cakes with eggs were a huge hit at our table! The crab cakes were perfectly crispy on the outside, a generous size, and very tasty. Lastly, they make their own hot sauces here and have a variety of unique flavors to try. I had fun trying out difference combinations of sauces with my food. Overall solid experience here !

Alexa D.

Yelp
The Fly Trap is an underrated brunch spot. They have a full bar and awesome tasting food. They have jam flavors on rotate each month made from scratch. The servers are chill, and the building is comfortable like a coffee shop cafe restaurant. Large portions of food and good quality.

Bryan L.

Yelp
Delicious options for brunch with large portions. The potatoes were on point! I would say bright and cheery dive bar ambiance with brunch? Service was quick, attentive, friendly and helpful.

DJ V.

Yelp
The staff was awesome, the restroom clean and the food was great! I couldn't make up my mind so the waiters combined 2 meals into one for me and it was delicious. If in the area I highly recommend eating here for brunch.

Mike D.

Yelp
Loved our visit to the Fly Trap. The food was delicious, service was kind and timely, and atmosphere was cozy. I ordered a B.L.A.T+C, which was really great. The multigrain toast with strawberry & rosemary jam was a delight. Will definitely be returning when I'm in the area next.

Tyryce S.

Yelp
I'm Visiting from Maine, my ID is still vertical, the lady checks my Id for about 5 minutes then says " 1 minute I need to go check with someone, because I've never seen a Maine ID, then comes back about 8 minutes later with my drink in her hand and just sits it down, and walks away. So I asked her while she was bussing the table next to me, " was the ID good? " She goes " oh yeah" like huh??? , IM VISITING of course when your a waitress you don't know where your guest will be from! Doesn't matter just do your job and leave the comments to your self!

Risya L.

Yelp
Absolutely a hidden gem yet clearly out in the open lol. I was visiting for the holidays and staying in pleasant ridge. I remember when this place was just a spiritual store turned restaurant while I was in high school. Checked out the menu and it looked amazing and hip! This place did not disappoint and the staff was wonderful and friendly as well as helpful with our decisions. I had the Huevos Rancheros which were so flavorful and delicious. I'm not typically a black bean type but they were YUM! Son had the gingerbread waffles and loved them, husband had green eggs and ham which he thoroughly enjoyed and the toddler has Mac n cheese. She wasn't a fan but the waitress got her the pbandj. She didn't end up charging for both toddler meals though I would have as it's not the restaurants fault she didn't like it. So I was thankful for that and ripped her for the amount of what it would've cost plus her tip. If your in town give this place a try! 10/10

Saphace A.

Yelp
My sister has come here a few times and really enjoys the food. Parking around here is parallel. You can find some on Woodward or on one of the side streets. It looked like there was a back parking lot but I'm not sure if it was theirs. We came a bit before 10am on a Sunday morning. The wait for a table wouldn't have been long, but we were going to have 8 people in our group. Unfortunately, you can't get seated unless your whole party is there. We waited close to 25 minutes... Kinda sad seeing everyone else get seated who were behind us in line. Old school system though. You write your name on a large paper on the wall towards the back entrance. LOL I hope to see them upgrade to a text service where they message when you're table is ready. Anywho, a lot of my table mates tried the mimosas since they had flavors like blackberry and strawberry. Refreshing! Food-wise, some of my tables mates ordered the huevos rancheros, some got omelets, green eggs and ham, and crab cakes like I did. The crab cakes came with eggs, toast and potatoes. Generous portion sizes! Lots of potatoes and it looked to be close to 3 eggs! I was very full! Not many gluten free options on the menu. Or vegan, sadly. I enjoyed looking at the art work with flies doing numerous activities. Very funny! Good vibes here too. They played a lot of old pop/R&B 90s/2000s music. The staff was nice too! Despite us only having 6/8 of our party arrive, they still seated us.

Jodi F.

Yelp
Love this place. From the decor to the unique menu to the delicious food and excellent service. I love this place. The egg dishes are great and the lemongrass noodle soup was amazing -- and just everything on the menu is just amazing.

Erica S.

Yelp
I'm sorry but I can't relate to all the raving reviews I've seen. The place is subpar. It's extremely small and overcrowded. The food is ok and the service is nothing really to write about. 100% don't recommend.

Jaewoo S.

Yelp
Went for lunch on a Friday. The parking behind the restaurant was $1.25/hr. I ordered Huevos Rancheros. The volume was big but the taste was nothing to be amazed of. It was not bad either. I would not go out of my way for this dish. Looks like inflation has hit hard. Huevos Rancheros $7.95 in 2018, $9.95 in 2020 and now $11.95. Not sure if portion has changed. But would come back to try other dishes as the server was really nice and the restaurant was cozy.

Madison W.

Yelp
The fresh squeezed OJ is very good! The bean salad was good! Definitely pricier but it's good!! Sourdough as an option is nice as well

Joanie S.

Yelp
Omg! The food and service was outstanding! We were visiting family from Traverse City. Can't wait to return! Try the crab cake and eggs breakfast. You won't be disappointed!!

Tammy D.

Yelp
Nice and quaint place. Nice day so windows open. Great service and food quickly brought to the table. Wait person really knew the menu and made sincere recommendations. Food was excellent. Parking was difficult but normal for Ferndale life which I don't live there. I will come back when I am in area.

Amelia B.

Yelp
A well known staple in the community for YEARS. Offering up a crazy diverse menu, we had a party of 2 and all ended up with various sandwiches. All were pretty good, fries were decent, breakfast potatoes were in small portions but tastier than i expected. My grinder sandwich was the poddlest amount of meat in it, like, one slice of salami. The cheese was carmelized aka burnt, but i like burnt cheese so i was okay with it. Service was good, they act like your best friend everytime. Give it a shot, It was on Diners Drive Ins and Dives.

Brittany G.

Yelp
We popped in here for lunch on a whim. The whim being we couldn't find parking, it was cold out, this was the closet walk. HOLY CRAP. Walking in, looked like a dive, great news, dives are the best places to eat, and this place is EPIC. It's not a dive, it's a secret. First, food. Okay. I got the dragon noodles, and was warned they were spicy. They are. But also, insanely good. Perfect peanut sauce, perfect cold thick noddles, perfect shrimp. My friend ordered the Mac n cheese with bacon, and we both agreed it's the best we've ever eaten. Ambience? Amazing. Each table has a different matching set of salt and pepper shakers, and it just made my day. I love this place. It's now my life's mission to try absolutely every dish in this menu.

Andrea T.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've gone but still enjoying the food and ambiance. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious.

Lisa F.

Yelp
The food is delicious.. Many choices. We had the salmon burger and tofu wrap. Both were very good. Their creamy herb dressing for salads was so good. We will definitely be back to eat.

Sam K.

Yelp
We came in randomly on a Monday morning and the place was practically empty (a positive). We ordered huevos rancheros & the flavor was absolutely incredible. This taste, ambience, and the friendly staff ensured us that we will be back much sooner than later. Thank you so much!

Caroline B.

Yelp
Just missed the mark. My husband and I went for lunch on Friday at about 2:30. First time we tried it after new owners took over. We were sat right away where ever we wanted. The entire restaurant was very cold, my husband and I kept our jackets on most of the meal. Ordered crab cakes for the appetizer, I ordered blt+a with a side salad, and my husband ordered the lemongrass faux bowl with tofu. Crab cakes where the star of the show by far. I would go back just for them. My blt+a was dry, I had to get extra aioli on the side and the bacon was under cooked. My husbands faux bowl had a flavor of cinnamon or cardamon. It was very unusual. Probably won't go back.

Monica W.

Yelp
From the original owners to Matt now, I don't think I've ever been disappointed here. The fried potatoes are always delicious. They have specials weekly. BLAT+C, crab cakes and eggs, huevos rancheros, definitely some classics and great! Servers are always nice even if they're busy.

Alexandra S.

Yelp
Tried for brunch and it exceeded our expectations! Staff was very friendly, portions were very generous, good price point. I got the green eggs and ham and my boyfriend got the brisket hash both were great. We got there around 9 on a Sunday and were able to avoid a wait. By the time we left around 10 it was packed so recommend getting there early!!! Definitely a must try if you are in the Ferndale area.

Kirsten C.

Yelp
The service was great and super quick to make my order on a weekday morning. They have multiple options that can be ordered as vegan. I got the huevos rancheros which was pretty good. The tortilla chips seemed fresh which made it better. I would go back to explore vegan options on their menu.
