The Flying Fisherman

The food and the service are amazing. Good accessibility, but there is one step at the entrance door. They’ve got a fantastic happy hour.

Disappointing in every way. Granted, we arrived at The Flying Fisherman expecting to eat at our old neighborhood favorite AG Kitchen, and we're very disappointed to discover it had closed. I would have loved it if the restaurant that replaced AG had equally delicious food and drinks, but unfortunately everything we tried just made me more and more sad. To start with, the drinks were meager, weak, and mine, at least, tasted like soap. As an appetizer, I ordered the Gigante Shrimp Cocktail. Given the name, I expected, well, giant shrimp of some kind. However, I apparently paid $15 for 5 very small to average sized, uninspiring shrimp. Please see the attached picture. And finally, the menu was, as another reviewer pointed out, quite uninspiring. After the drinks and shrimp cocktail, I didn't trust the kitchen to produce something worth $27 from the main course section, so I ordered fish tacos. The fish tacos from AG Kitchen had actually been quite good, but these, once again, were not. With what amounted to a slightly oversized fish stick in a tortilla with an attempt at guacamole and some off tasting slaw, I ate them because I was very hungry and didn't want to have to go somewhere else, not because they were enjoyable. The french fries were ok. Obviously, we won't be back.

The food was very fresh & good. Unfortunately the food took a long time to come out.

Incredible food and superb ambiance. So happy to have a sea food joint in the 70s!!

Just not a great dining experience in any way for the price with so many other options in the area. Came in and sat at the bar and the staff had no clue what the happy hour offerings included. I asked how many shrimp sliders to an order, and they didn't know. I asked about baked clams, bartender said 1 per order. Seemed expensive for $3 each at happy hr but fine, we bit, I ordered two. Out came 3 clams, and we were billed for 2 orders. So, uh, 1.5 clams per happy hr order? Bizarre. I asked the server how many came to an order when they were delivered and he shrugged and walked away. Otherwise the charred squid and lobster were fine. Definitely edible but unremarkable and not worth the price. Truly loved AG Kitchen but the vibe and food here didn't work for me, and it seems like either the staff aren't trained properly or just really don't care.

I went last night with my daughter. Very friendly greeter. There was a table which was still being used and then we waited until it was wiped down for us. Waitress was just OK. Though she did not express it, she seemed disappointed when I said I would just drink water and nothing else; same disappointment shown when I I asked for the bill and she asked if we wanted dessert. The fish n chips my daughter had was lot of breading and very little fish. And we waited over 30 minutes for our food. Not recommending the new fish place!

Happy hour oysters were good, grilled octopus excellent and filling, especially when paired with the bean dip it was served with. Lobster roll, while not exactly pretty was quite tasty. Two small sandwiches are served on what appears to be very hard toastd Italian bread. The bread was actually very light, and the lobster was tasty, pretty nice portion for the price. However, Pearl is still my favorite lobster roll in NYC, but it's at least $10 more per plate. Drinks and service were fine. Not a bad meal, I just wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

Not a bad spot however not very consistent. menu changed quite a bit. also the steak sandwich went from a NY strip to cold cuts. baked clams were always delicious (quantity changed) and the shrimp sliders were great as well. I was a regular (once a week) and saw a drastic change in a short time. i wish them the best
