The Hottest New Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul Right Now, October 2024

"The team behind the Food Bank food truck has opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the Camden neighborhood, where it’s serving golden-fried catfish dinners, hot honey wings, and Philly cheese steaks, among other dishes, plus sides like mac and cheese, greens with smoked turkey, spaghetti and potato salad. But don’t overlook the made-from-scratch dessert menu, featuring silky banana pudding, peach cobbler, and caramel cake with the glossiest sheen." - Eater Staff

OMG! Plans changed, and I needed to find a nearby food options. This place popped up on Google and had some pretty fair reviews so I decided to pull up. Not going to lie I ordered damn near half the menu due to how good the smell was! I just knew it was cooked in some good grease lol And trust me it was exactly what I was looking for! Exactly what I needed! And this is what I call SOUL FOOD! I was so sad that the dressing was sold out but I was able to get the catfish dinner with two sides. For my sides I got the yams in the spaghetti in the entire dish was amazing! Everything was so sweet and savory and cooked too perfection. I'm super greedy so I also got the Polish sausage and it was perfectly crisp and juicy! I also got the caramel cake on the side and it was delightful! It all came out to 33 bucks which I believe is a steal. I highly recommend this place. It's a good takeout restaurant and the portions are shareable.

This was my second time visiting The Food Bank Eatery and I live within a block from the place so I guess I should've let the fact that with that being said, I must not of been too impressed the first time I experienced this establishment. And I must add that I don't normally leave reviews but I couldn't believe how dramatically my mood changed from being accepting of the fact that my 4yr old sons burger bun was moldy all over the bottom part of the bun and I had debated whether or not I was gonna even call n mention anything to them since I had received his meal for free due to the generous promotion they are currently offering during the govt shutdown/SNAP benefit holding ordeal (I didn't know they were having this promotion until I started to order his meal) but I figured I would do the morally correct thing and save the "next person" from receiving the same and called the establishment and kindly explained that I had just been in there and who I was and explained that i wasn't expecting anything since I had been given his meal for free anyways but that I wanted to let them aware that my son's burger bun had been moldy all over the bottom half and wanted to save the trouble for the next person who orders a burger from them. Again, I was overly kind of anything and thought I was more than fair n understanding that things happen but was just doing what I felt was the correct thing to do. The lady that answered the phone offered me NO APOLOGY and my concern was met with a "oh ok. Thank you". I went from the thought never crossing my mind to post and rant about a moldy burger bun to omg I can't believe she couldn't even offer an apology for their oversight and I understand mold is only penicillin, I was a nurse for 15yrs, so it wouldn't of necessarily made my child ill but nonetheless, the whole thought isn't pleasant and how the woman who answered the phone handled my upbeat, more than understanding n friendly concern is more of a concern of the kind of compassion or empathy she has. Some people need to put themselves in other people's shoes. Especially after my son n I decided to walk there on the icy, choppy sidewalks and cold brisk wind to get a moldy burger bun in return and not even to get an apology but instead I got "oh ok. Thank you". I just think it would've been nice if she could've acknowledged that they messed up n had some kind of feeling of remorse or something. Some people just don't care n I guess I just won't be thinking of this place the next time we want to order food. It's the small things people say n do that sometimes makes all the difference in the world and this is just one example of those times that really got to me. Thank you for listening to my long rant.

Congratulations on your opening! The spaghetti & Carmel cake brought me to tears literally it tastes like momma cooking. Being from the South it's hard to find good soul food. Until now. It was like I was a child and my mom & aunts were in the kitchen. Absolutely loved it. This will become a regular spot for me and my number one restaurant to recommend to family, out-of-state visitors, friends, & co-workers. Looking for a good home-cooked meal try here. I ordered the wing & catfish meal. Keep up the great work and hospitality!

YAMS. Sweet yaaaams (lol) FIRE! Perfectly tender, sweet, and flavorful. The cabbage could’ve used a little more seasoning for me, buuuut, my baby loved them! So 👍🏽👍🏽. I had not tried anything ‘hot honey’ flavored until today when I tried ‘The Food Bank’ wings in hot honey flavor, MAGNIFICENT! Now when it comes to this peach cobbler y’all, it’s so SOOOO good. Like so good I have to keep it to myself 😂😂. Today was my second time eating here and yet again, I was not disappointed. Oh and to clarify, the chicken did NOT come bitten into. I just didn’t remember to take the picture until after we had bit into the chicken 😆 for $28 bucks I was very happy 😊

I first discovered this restaurant on DoorDash as a newcomer, and as a lover of soul food, I was immediately intrigued. Being a cook myself and originally from Chicago by way of the South, I’ve had the chance to taste soul food from many places during my travels. I can confidently say they live up to their quote: “It’s just like grandma’s.” This is my third time ordering from them, and though I haven’t visited the establishment in person yet, I work in North Minneapolis and plan to stop by soon. So far, I’ve tried their catfish, baked macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and caramel cake, and I’ve been impressed every time. The catfish is always cooked perfectly—seasoned just right without being overly salty, which is refreshing for soul food. The mac and cheese has a delightful baked flavor, with a perfect balance of ingredients. The texture is consistently on point, and it’s cheesy without being overwhelming. The sweet potatoes are a standout for me (yams are my favorite dish to eat and cook). Their sauce has a unique sweetness with what I think is a hint of orange—it’s sweet but not overly so. The caramel cake is another highlight. The caramel tastes homemade, the cake is incredibly moist, and the flavors blend together beautifully. One thing I’ve appreciated every time I’ve ordered through DoorDash is that the food always arrives hot, as if it came straight out of the kitchen and right to my door. I’m thrilled to see this restaurant in the community because Minnesota has long needed more great soul food options. My other go-to spot is Angelea’s Soul Food Kitchen, which is also incredible, but this restaurant is just as amazing—and it’s available on DoorDash! I’m confident you’ll continue to thrive. Having quality soul food so accessible is truly a gift!

I called in for my food, the lady that answered was VERY rude, I came to pick up my order and I could tell it was the same lady who answered the phone, she seem to have an attitude like she didn’t want to be at work. And I can tell they pick and choose who to show customer service to because another person came in and she was all jolly! The food was decent I had ordered the catfish sandwich with fries, and it was fried very hard. Sometimes it’s hard to support black business with poor hospitality.

When we 1st arrived, the young woman at the register was so focused on a conversation with someone in the kitchen that another woman in the back had to say "Hello & welcome..." My Sister ordered dressing and greens, I ordered the chicken wing meal with fries and a side of greens. We waited for about 10 minutes, and someone came out to let my sister know that they were out of dressing (which was the main reason that we came to the restaurant). She decided to get cabbage along with her greens. When her order came, she enjoyed eating it until she found some foil in the greens. She addressed it with the staff, and they were very apologetic, explained where it came from and offered her money back as well as offered her to come back for a meal on them, due to the entire situation. She didn't want her money back, but stated that she'd be back. The 1st time that she came - the food and service were beyond exceptional, and the food was still good - just with an unwanted ingredient. My food, on the other hand, was delicious, and "foil-free"! 😅 The fries and chicken wings were very well-seasoned and flavorful.

Ordered via door dash and although my dasher was late the food was still hot. Never ate here before and ordered close towards closing got the greens, spaghetti, bbq wings and everything was delicious the spaghetti was so savory only thing I wish was for less bones in the greens. They gave me a free thing of Mac and cheese and it was delicious. Definitely will be ordering again
