Where to Dine in Nashville’s Green Hills Neighborhood | Eater Nashville

"All longtime Nashvillians are quick to name The Food Company as one of the best casual spots in the city — and they are right to do so. A menu consisting of sandwiches, soups, and salads satisfies daytime hunger and makes dinners easy. Under the same ownership and located next door, Greenhouse Bar is another neighborhood go-to with a great margarita sipped inside — as its name suggests — a functioning greenhouse." - Alex Hendrickson

13 Essential Sandwich Shops in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Head to Greenhouse Nashville in Green Hills, where, much like it sounds, you can sip cocktails inside a functioning greenhouse. The bar’s adjacent cafe, The Food Company, serves up excellent sandwiches, like turkey with sharp white cheddar and crisp vegetables and a grilled cheese slathered with herb butter and roasted cherry tomatoes. Gluten-free bread is available for an extra charge." - Kellie Walton

Tucked into a corner of the Green Hills area of Nashville, this cute restaurant on Bandywood Drive offers a variety of sandwiches to order and grab and go items. There is some seating inside with seating available on the patio that is covered. There are lots of plants and lighting to create an oasis atmosphere. You order at the counter and are provided with a number for your table. They have tea and lemonade options to serve yourself and Coke products in cans that can be ordered. They bring your order to you. The bread on the sandwiches was very fresh. The meats were thick cut and the vegetables were fresh. We had the Turkey #2, Roast Beef #1, BLT ABC, Turkey #3, and Ham #3. Everything was delicious. Parking is very limited. Most people park at either Kroger or the Bandywood shopping center and walk over.

Google
TLDR; great place for sandwiches and other quick bites Food: we ordered the breakfast burritos and I was happy with them! The sauce it comes with is really nice too. Atmosphere: the line builds up quickly and moves slowly. There’s a few tables indoors but a lot more outdoors. It’s a better idea to go the Greenhouse Bar next door and order from there since they have the same menu.

Me and a friend took a trip to Nashville to have lunch at this delightful location. After seeing the food and reviews on Google I had to try it out for myself. I had their Roast Beef number 1 which was good. The only thing I didn't like was that the crust on the sourdough was a little too and tough thick for me, but the rest of the bread was nice and soft. The atmosphere was fantastic they have have inside and outside seating.

Google
Yummy BLT! I would recommend coming here for lunch. It is a little on the pricey side. The kale salad was delicious as well! The seating is very aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.

Great food and service. Strongly recommend.

Google
Food is AMAZING!!!! Fresh with great portions. You can call ahead with your order, eat in and bring home from their to go fridge. Completely awesome place with great service and folks who care about you. If you have missing Bread and Company this is the place for you and btw the tomato soup is better if you can believe that!!!!

I spent $40 on 2 enchiladas ahead of the approaching winter storm. I placed the online order while I was at work and scheduled to pick them up the second I was leaving the office. I arrived and waited a rather long time only to be told that they had sold out of enchiladas and were currently in the process of making more. I was then rudely told to come back the following morning when I had planned to serve my family said enchiladas for dinner that night. It also turns out the woman waiting behind me in line actually scooped up the one remaining enchilada from the prepared food section while I waited. Call me crazy but I assumed my order would be set aside for me especially in the midst of people buying food like it’s the apocalypse. When I asked for an immediate refund, I was again met with an attitude. Food company has long been a reliable staple for me but no longer is that the case. I was willing to excuse the high prices but that coupled with a lack of professionalism is a deal breaker for me. I’d also like to note that I received a text saying my order was ready the second I left the parking lot.

Google
My wife suggested we get Thanksgiving meal prepared by The Food Company! What a spectacular choice! Every and I mean everything was flawless. Every dish was made to perfection. Prepared with tender loving care. When it came time to pick up the order and I entered the shop, it was a buzz but not like you might think. Orders were being filled in an orderly manner and very pleasantly. They were running a two person check list to assure your order will be filled exactly as ordered. What a pleasure it was and a huge load off our shoulders. Thanks to all involved who made our Thanksgiving day a pleasant relaxing experience.

Yelp
The food here is so fresh and delicious. Mouthwatering/crazy good! The BLTABC with the cucumber and the basil mayo is a must have!! The tomato basil soup is some of the best I have ever had. Have I said Fresh already!!! The atmosphere is nice as well.

Yelp
The vibes are rightttt in here. And the food is gas. I got some sort of sandwich situation with roast beef I can't remember. But I will keep coming back

Yelp
I was so excited to find dairy free (DF) chicken salad & gluten free (GF) bread! It's a bit pricey for the size (GF bread is +$1 & upgrading from chips to fruit is +$3). The ingredients tasted fresh & was filling, & the unsweetened raspberry tea was a refreshing addition. I appreciate the menu being labeled dairy free (DF) & gluten (GF), & all food in the grab & go case is labeled with the ingredients. I didn't look at every label, but I was so pleased to not see canola oil in the ingredients! The cashier was not friendly, & we felt uncomfortable as we browsed the menu. However the food came out fast, & we enjoyed eating on the patio. Suggestion: Fresh tomato would make the Tarragon Almond Chicken Salad Sandwich perfection!

Yelp
I loved the energy and ambience in the green room. We got tuna sandwich that was good and a ham sandwich that i didn't love but it was good. Will return to try different items on the menu!

Jenna M.

Yelp
Good sandwiches, a little pricy but they taste good and fresh. This place is connected to the green house bar.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick lunch at The Food Company and will be back again! The environment was fun and the service was great, but the food was even better! Make sure you get their fruit tea! Wanted to grab a cookie for dessert but after a sandwich, chips, and penne pasta there wasn't anymore room!
google avatar

Yelp
The food is delicious and fresh while the ambiance is relaxing and ethereal. Everyone in our group loved their meals and the experience of eating among plants.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for lunch! They have great sandwiches with small cups of soups. I love the inside section with all the plants. It was a great spot so sit when it is cold as is kept warm for the plants.

Yelp
We were visiting Nashville and went to the Food Company for lunch. I ordered a Turkey artichoke sandwich with a cup of pharmacy vegetable soup and Kay ordered the Food Company Salad with a cup of tomato basil soup before heading to the very comfortable greenhouse to wait for our meals which came very quickly. We both found the soup to be tasty and very well prepared. My sandwich and Kay's salad were both very fresh and delicious. We both look forward to returning

Annie M.

Yelp
Great ingredients and really fresh sandwiches! They serve out of a super cool atmosphere and the quality is worth the price!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. I randomly decided to try it today and I definitely want to come back soon! I had the chicken salad sandwich on wheat instead of sourdough. The bread was so thick and fresh and the chicken salad is probably my new favorite thing ever. Very filling and very high quality.
google avatar

Enjoli G.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! Light, fresh, clean and filling all at the same time! Great portion sizes and the Grab n Go refrigerated section is full of amazing meals to heat up at home. Friendly, quick and kind staff. This is my new go-to! Hooked!

Yelp
We found this place on Yelp as we drove through Nashville. We wanted some healthy food for lunch with options for my allergies (gluten & dairy). The food is very good (a bit overpriced). The service was slow (it took about 15-minutes for sandwiches) during peak lunch time. You should try to go a bit later, if possible, to avoid the crowd. You order at the counter and then loiter in their cramped space while you wait. I had the BLT #2 (chipotle mayo, avocado & cucumber) on a gluten-free wrap. It was very tasty and generous with the bacon. The fruit tea is delicious. I sampled all of them while I waited for my sandwich and picked one that I liked. All of them were good, so you can't go wrong. We ate outside in the adjoining garden on a picnic table. We had to clean our own table. Parking is a bit of a problem, so we parked at a nearby shopping area and walked there. It wasn't too bad, since it was a pleasant day. But, if the weather isn't good, I can see that this would be an issue.

Yelp
Get the fruit tea! It is delicious. The food is very good. It's just a bit overpriced, but it's always very good. It can get a bit noisy so it's not great for conversation. They have a nice area to sit in outside. Make new friends at the big Ethan said his favorite veggie option was number 3. It's very good. I got the kale salad which is delicious, but he recommended the penne (which I've had an is very good.) Ethan took care of us.

Yelp
I used to love this place, it was on my favorite Sandwich list in Nashville and boy has it gone downhill! I used to love the turkey avocado and when I went this week that had been removed but the person working said he could create it no problem. After about 5 mins of messing with the POS system he suggested going with the club sandwich instead so I said ok but with sourdough bread and toasted. I got the sandwich and it was on white bread and not toasted and tasted below average. I was so disappointed. It has been a few years since I've been here but my god did they go the wrong direction! I don't know if it's change in ownership but they need to get back to their roots because there's no way I will ever go back if it's the same experience I had this week.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Good food and fresh but insanely overpriced and small portions. $4 to upgrade my chips to a small side salad. So $18 for a small tuna sandwich with small side salad. Definitely not worth it for an order at the counter and seat yourself type of vibe so either adjust your pricing or your portion size.

Jay H.

Yelp
Word of advice: Check your order BEFORE you leave! Multiple times I've placed orders online and they end up wrong. My fault for continuing to go back.

Yelp
I lived in a college town for 7 years and one thing i miss from there was an abundance of fast casual delis and sandwich spots. I hadn't quite found that the three years I've lived in Nashville until I discovered The Food Company. Y'all do not underestimate the power of a well-made sandwich!! The Food Company is my new favorite casual lunch spot in Nashville. They have a refrigerated section with grab and go items (dips, salads, pastas etc.) and a counter at the front to order from their lunch menu. My first time here I got the special of the day which was a turkey cucumber wrap. This comes with a side and a drink so I got the pesto pasta salad with sundried tomatoes and parmesan cheese and a fruit tea. This was so much food that I had to get a to-go box and take home half of the food for later. The wrap was so surprisingly good. Instead of the thinly cut deli-style turkey it was hearty slices of carving board white meat turkey. They let me pick what kind of wrap I wanted so I got the wheat which was good as well. The pesto pasta salad was delicious and so was the fruit tea. The next time I came back I got the chicken salad and avocado wrap. It's hard to decide which wrap I liked best--they were both great! As far as the ambiance it is casual and cute inside. They have a few tables outside as well in between the greenhouse bar and food co. The parking lot is small but if needed you could always park at Kroger and walk across the street. Great little spot I highly recommend!

Yelp
Grabbed some quick lunch here before a procedure at a nearby plastic surgeon and it was awesome. No line, plenty of seating, quick, and great food. The veggie sandwich and pasta salad I had was superb. I was in and out in 20 min. Parking was easy enough at 1.30 PM.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
If you like the young crowd who cannot hold their liquor it's your type of place. Way overpriced and being outside on a hot night you will not like it. Prior to it becoming the sandwich place it was a botanical place. It had far more character then. It had an iron gate which gave it class.

Rayne S.

Yelp
The best lunch spot in green hills! The salads and sandwiches are always so fresh. They also have great frozen meals to-go! The service is always quick and the ambiance is gorgeous in the green house!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Lovely little lunch type spot hidden behind the busy streets or green hills. even during COVID, it has ample outdoor seating and hand sanitizer to make you feel safe while you risk opening your mouth to engulf their delicious meal. i usually get the lunch to go take out option which is a sandwich + chips + cookie deal. ham #1 is the best!! pro tip: they sub turkey meat if you don't eat or like ham. their mint lemonade tea thing is tasty. can't go wrong with their choco chip cookie!!! so good i haven't even tried the molasses cookie. super friendly service. thank you for all that you do for us especially during COVID!

Marie S.

Yelp
My mother who is a disabled senior citizen visited the Food Company the other day to purchase items from the refrigerated section. She picked out her items on her own, brought them to the cash register on her own, and being older and not tech savvy in the least, she swiped her credit card not realizing that the machine defaulted to a 20% tip. This resulted in an additional $10 being charged to her for absolutely no reason. Defaulting to any tip amount is completely unethical and unacceptable especially in the case when your customer is someone on a fixed income and cannot afford to provide a tip for absolutely no reason as again no one assisted her with anything. I should not have to write a review like this because any business should know the default should be NO TIP and the customer should decide whether or not to leave a tip.

Yelp
This place is currently undergoing some renovations, so this might not have been the best time to stop in for the first time! I ordered the Turkey #1 with avocado and chipotle mayo. The sandwich was delicious; however I did not know that it was actual turkey and not deli turkey, which is what I was craving. It was a bit pricey, $13 for a sandwich. They had a nice amount of prepared foods in a little cooler area. Staff was friendly. Would definitely try the place again after construction is completed!

Yelp
Update: Came back for a second time already. This time, I tried the BLT, and I don't even eat BLTs! I ordered the BLT #2(BLT with roasted tomatoes, chipotle mayo, cucumber and avocado). Mamma Mia, this sandwich was dreamy. It was super rich and fresh all together. The roasted tomatoes were a nice and unique touch. It had tons of crispy bacon and thinly sliced cucumber. The chipotle mayo and lightly toasted bread really put it over the edge! I can't wait to go back! My only complaints about The Food Company are that it's not right by my house and I waited to long to find it! On my ongoing winter quest to find the best soups, I heard about The Food Co and finally tried it this week! The restaurant is adorable and located right behind Green Hills. In case you can't find parking up front, they have a parking lot in the back! I do wish it was paved since it was quite messy when I went, but that didn't stop me. The inside is homey and inviting. The vibe was sort of Real Housewives of Nashville meets Frothy Monkey (but even better). I was tempted to order the daily special, taco salad, but I thought I'd go with a Classic sandwich and soup combo for my first visit. They have a variety of delicious sandwich combinations all on fresh baked breads and wraps. I went with the Turkey #1, which included turkey breast, mayo, Dijon, lettuce, tomato, onion and provolone on farm bread. This is not your normal sliced deli turkey. The sandwich had large chunks of fresh turkey breast, just like Thanksgiving. The bread was soft and fresh. Luckily, I also got to try their very popular chunky tomato basil soup. First of all, I don't even LIKE chunky tomato pieces, but I couldn't stop eating this! 5 stars for the soup for sure. They also offered chili and potato chorizo chowder that day. My food came out very fast, so you can definitely eat here in a hurry! One thing I LOVE is their ready to go items in the refrigerator. They had a variety of soups, all of their sides (pasta salads, egg salad, etc), chicken salad, ham and brie biscuits, chicken bakes, chicken enchiladas, quesadillas, and more all ready to take home. I was tempted to take a few things home, but I decided I needed to bring my boyfriend back asap, so I'll pick some up then. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This is definitely my new favorite lunch spot. Check it out asap, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Great sandwiches! The bread is awesome and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Going to try their takeaway pre-made soups and meals. They look great. This place is going into my regular rotation.
google avatar

Mandy K.

Yelp
This is a place that every neighborhood should be lucky enough to have. Homemade fresh food that you can grab and go, or eat in. Be warned though, parking is poor. And on a rainy day the dirt lot is a land mine. Best to go off peak. I often pass off the tomato soup as my own when I entertain... shhhhh... I just add some fresh basil and a bit of goat cheese to the top. Voila. The chicken enchiladas are delightful as is the chicken tortilla soup. Again, for entertaining purposes, their cheese spread is delicious warmed on toast points. Great place to go with girlfriends after a day of shopping at the cute local boutiques.

Yelp
My family and I were really excited to try this place. It has great reviews and looks delicious. When we got here, our cashier was a little flat, not very friendly. We brushed it off and sat down to wait for our name to be called out. The inside was pretty crowded and loud. We were seated when the same worker came over and said something along the lines of "we've been calling your name for awhile and your food has been sitting up there" in a rude tone. We thanked her for the food and she walked away again. One of our food items came with the wrong side, so my sister went up to ask for her side. When she went up she politely said, "I'm sorry, I got the wrong side. I had the soup not the salad." And the same worker rolled her eyes! We got the new side and sat down to eat. Apart from the rude worker, our food was really delicious. We had the veggie #1, 2, and 3. Our favorite was #1 and the pesto penne was so good! The food is really good, but it's unfortunate that the service was not just subpar, but bad. It really soured our experience to have someone roll their eyes at us. We are a gracious family when it comes to service workers, but this was undoubtably rude.

Kelly D.

Yelp
I love stopping by here for a delicious, healthy lunch. The veggie #1 (add bacon) is a delight, made memorable with the tasty artichoke spread and the crunchy carrots. Speaking of carrots, the side of pickled carrots was sooooo yummy. Who needs salt and vinegar chips when you have perfectly crunchy, tangy carrots. I will go out of my way for their food and fruit tea. Another suggestion is to grab their prepped food items (ham biscuits, quiche, etc) for yourself or as a thoughtful gesture for someone else. The Food Company is a classic Nashville staple that we need to protect at all costs!

Julie K.

Yelp
Great lunch spot would highly recommend! Food was good and fresh enjoyed the cocktail menu as well!
google avatar

Courtney P.

Yelp
Great sandwiches and mint tea! We were able to sit in the greenhouse next door to eat and it was perfectly charming.
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
I was driving through Nashville and wanted a good sandwich. After calling another place that was busy I found this one almost next door. I called in my order and service was prompt. I got the #1 Turkey sandwich and the pesto penne. Both were delicious. The Turkey was legit turkey not like the deli meat. The pasta pesto was something I'll be craving for awhile! This was a good little stop!
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
An old fave. Get the Food Co salad, tomato soup (or squash if they have it), or the egg salad sandwich. Can't go wrong. And if you're not watching calories, the butter bar dessert is amazing. Also, the fruit tea is completely addictive. Can't get enough of it.
google avatar

Makenna M.

Yelp
This place is amazing! A little hard to find but worth it. Best club Ive had in nashville and the pesto pasta as a side is a must. One of my favorite places in town!!

Ryan S.

Yelp
I tried TFC at a work meeting, and all I can say is that the food is amazing + I'm obsessed. I ordered the Green Godess Salad with a side of tuna and would totally get again!
google avatar

Gerald M.

Yelp
Sandwiches here are very wholesome and nutritious. This is definitely not a place for someone looking for greasy or fattening food. The ingredients are extremely fresh and flavorful. They have convenient parking out front. Although we went when the weather was poor, they have a wonderful outdoor seating area! The service here is decent but there is some room for improvement.
google avatar

Rita M.

Yelp
This is a wonderful little sandwich/salad shop. They have other items on their menu, but today we went there for sandwiches. The abc BLT on fresh Farm bread was quite tasty. My husband had the Tuna Salad on Wheat Berry, which he said was perfect as is. The experience of dining in their green house was as good as the food. The service was terrific too! Five Stars for everything, even the fresh brewed black tea. My husband even commented on how terrific their bagged potato chips are.
google avatar

Brooke R.

Yelp
We're new to Nashville so trying out as many places as we can. We ordered BLT, Turkey #2 and #3, Southwest Salad, Tomato Soup and Food Co. Salad. We would order all of them again. So delicious. There is also a cooler with prepared dinners/pastas/soups. We'll be back for sure.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
Delicious! Hard to not get one of the staple sandwiches, but the soup and salad are just as great...Can't go wrong with the menu.
google avatar

Kayla L.

Yelp
This place gets 5 stars from me. MORE if yelp allowed. Found this spot on yelp & decided to check it out for lunch one day. A quaint little sandwhich shop with a beer garden directly behind it. They also have a cold case with to-go options that are delicious as well. Fresh ingredients, perfect bread (& many options) + a wide range of sides. I did a turkey sandwich with pesto pasta side. If you like pesto OR pasta salad.. TRY IT. You won't be disappointed. Keeping it simple is never a bad thing, right? Plenty of parking & both indoor/outdoor seating. Reasonable prices & very high quality. This is one of my new favorite spots in town.
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Outside dining with fantastic sandwiches!! Kale salad was not my favorite, but great little place.
google avatar

AC A.

Yelp
This hidden gem is worth finding! I am absolutely obsessed after my second trip in two weeks. Both times I got the ham #3 and a side of chunky tomato basil soup and both have been so wonderful on each occasion. The quilting of the food is outstanding; you also get quite a bit of food in a serving which is always a plus. I would highly recommend this as a breakfast or lunch spot.
google avatar

Arielle S.

Yelp
The food here is extremely fresh and parking isn't horrible. I got a ham sandwich with a side of pesto pasta and for $11 it was very filling. Staff is very friendly and there was plenty of seating.

Xaq X.

Yelp
It seems if you were going to charge $10 for a small sandwich, maybe you would put a slice of tomato or onion on it? Just a slice? The chicken salad is ok. But I didn't even get enough to cover the plain white bread they put it on. I paid almost $11 for what you see in the picture! I can't help but wonder what the owner pays the employees. They are getting away with delivering bare minimum and charging like they are doing extraordinary things. It's sad, too, because the quality is decent, and they COULD do atleast 2x the business they do now. I work close by and would patron a few times a week. The area needs a good deli. Unfortunately, The Food Company's cons way outweigh the pro's.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Why change a good thing? We have been coming here for the last three years and typically get the same order every time. We walked in right before Christmas to find the menu has completely changed! 6 people came in after us asking for their usual order and they didn't have any of it. The quality of the sandwiches have dropped significantly ever since they changed the menu. They don't even have fruit as a side anymore. Luckily the people behind the counter are the same and always friendly! They sympathized for us and apologized but said there was nothing they could do. This is a letter to the owner, not those that work hard and serve us everyday. Bring our menu back, we came for a reason. Unfortunately this is NOT the same Food Co.
google avatar

Gracie H.

Yelp
This place is great! I was looking for a healthy option for lunch and decided to come in after looking on Yelp. I was not disappointed! I got the mozzarella, pesto, and tomato veggie sandwich with a side of their chunky tomato soup (SO good), and the fruit tea (GET THE FRUIT TEA, you won't regret it). As far as the cost, I agree it's very slightly overpriced, but when you compare it to Panera, it's the same price. I paid about $15 including tip for my sandwich, soup, and drink. I think that's really good, especially with the quality you're getting. I'll definitely be coming here again!

Jenna R.

Yelp
Food was awesome!! Fresh, healthy and quick. I had a salad and my daughter one of their amazing sandwiches. My salad was hands down the best salad I have had in years. Homemade spiced pecans and housemade dressing so yummy. I will definitely be back soon
google avatar

Meesh H.

Yelp
Have not been disappointed with anything from this cute little lunch spot. Absolutely love the BLTabc, garden gazpacho and the citrus mint tea! Can't wait to experience it post-covid.

Lisa C.

Yelp
This place has some nerve charging $11 for a cheese and tomato sandwich that has one piece of cheese & 3 cherry tomatoes. The cauliflower & rosemary soup tasted like puréed pap with a minimal amount of seasoning. Friend had a turkey sandwich for $10 & while we appreciate the amount of turkey, serving it in ripped up chunks that immediately fell out from the bread is not what a sandwich is meant to do. With all the amazing delis & sandwich shops in Nashville, this place is an underwhelming rip off. Don't waste your money.

Yelp
Ordered from here for a business lunch. The ultimate chicken dish was advised. It is the best seller per the website. It was a casserole like dish and it came with orzo and garlic in a light sauce. It was tasty and if you like casseroles, this seems like an upgrade from the normal chicken and broccoli version. The vegetarien dish was a spaghetti squash with mushrooms,, spinach, and butter nut squash. Lots of mushrooms and the rosemary/ and sage flavor reminds one of Thanksgiving stuffing. I don't know if there was sage in it, but it tasted like there was. The salad had a thick balsamic vinegar dressing and had a spinach arrugala and radicchio. Lots of good nutrition in one side dish. They served a bread with I think is used for the sandwiches. I plan to try those when I go to their brick an mortor space. It was crunch crust and soft middle. By raves of the other yelpers, I will be quite pleased. As this was catering, the service is different, however, the people seemed very helpful and answered our questions. Would definitely order from here again and hope to make it to Green Hills soon to order some tasty sammies.
