Topsail Steamer Expands to Wrightsville Beach | Eater Carolinas

"A wine-forward small-plates bar known for an expansive, globally minded list—more than 50 wines by the glass and nearly 350 by the bottle—alongside frequent free tastings. The kitchen emphasizes shareable, international-leaning offerings such as curated cheese boards, truffled mushroom pizza and a country-style paella with duck, making it a destination for both serious wine drinkers and diners seeking creative small plates." - Katie Toussaint

Google
Always our favorite wine bar in Wilmington! We never miss an opportunity to stop by and try new wines. Diverse wine list and great cheese/charcuterie board. I highly recommend a visit!

We had such a lovely experience. From the moment we walked in, we were met with genuine kindness, charm, and a feeling that we were truly welcome. Even though the bar was full, there was this wonderful, almost family-like energy — not just from the staff, but from the patrons too. Everyone seemed invested in making sure we were comfortable and taken care of, which says so much about the culture of this place. The atmosphere was made even more special by live piano music, which we later learned was played by the owner — an incredibly charming touch that elevated the entire evening. The wine was excellent, thoughtfully curated, and very reasonably priced, making it easy to relax and enjoy the moment without feeling rushed or upsold. Fortunate Glass feels like one of those rare places where hospitality is sincere, the vibe is warm, and you leave feeling better than when you arrived. We’ll absolutely be back!

Google
Fortunate Glass has become one of our favorite spots downtown. It’s cozy and has that tucked-away charm that’s perfect for date night, small groups, or simply enjoying a glass of wine. The ambiance is always warm and inviting, and the wine list is fantastic .. interesting selections, great value, and the team always knows what to recommend. We’ve loved it every time we’ve gone.

This man, the owner, kind, knowledgeable, kind. Greets every guest. He is going through something of his own, a path that no one would ask for yet thrives and makes a difference to his patrons. You are cherished sir, respected. And cared for. The bartender we love, was out galavanting, enjoying some travel. See you soon.

Yelp
I love this place. It feels sooo fancy but it's completely affordable. The vibes inside are super cozy

Yelp
Warm, welcoming, comfortable, amazing taste and service! I had the duck confit sliders. Sooo good, I refused to let anyone else taste lol. Crème Brûlée was top notch.

Yelp
Great place in downtown Wilmington. They don't really take reservations but we called the night of (Friday) and they said they would hold a table for us which was very nice! The place is small, only really two tables for larger groups and then some small tables and a bar. We got a meat and cheese board, paella, empanadas, and bruschetta. The paella was definitely the highlight and the cheese board had a great selection of accoutrements like nuts, olives, jam with nice bread. The server was very nice and we had a great bottle of wine too!

Yelp
The Fortunate Glass is such a cozy wine bar. I went for post-dinner drinks and tried their specialty, orange wine. I am not a wine connoisseur, and it was my first time trying an orange wine. The glass was enjoyable and was a lovely accompaniment for a post-dinner friend catch-up and drink.

Yelp
Great friendly service and conversation, Hank and Hannah we great winetenders , the small plates were tasty and filling. We are only here for the weekend but we will find our way back.

Yelp
Excellent! Great service and conversation from Hank and Tom. Best charcuterie board I've ever had! They don't skimp! Delicious bread they get shipped in from New York. House-made chutney was amazing! Highly recommend this establishment. Don't miss out!

Yelp
Great food and vibe!! Service was top notch!! We went right before a storm moved in. They accommodated us seamlessly!! I would go back without hesitation!!

Yelp
Still and always one of my favorites! A girlfriend and I had dinner and wine together here- amazing cheese choices, delicious meats, and ooooo the desserts!!! We were so full and so so happy!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice wine bar with hundreds of wine selections. It's pretty small and when we went there was only one person serving the bar and tables. But she did a great job keeping the patrons happy for being 1 person and the place was packed . We only had a glass of wine

Yelp
5/5 stars for thus place! Their wine selection is unbeatable anywhere in Wilmington! Their menu is constantly changing with suggestions on what wine to pair with your meal. The staff are all terrific as is the owner! Tourist or local, this has to be a must go to unwind after a long day.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
This place is beautiful inside. The bartender was chill and was very helpful in selecting a wine. She even let me sample before ordering! It's a lovely place to sit inside, but they do have a few tables outside as well. We didn't order food, but the table beside us ordered a few things, and it looked good. I can't vouch for the food, but the wine selection and the service is great!
google avatar

Gigi G.

Yelp
Great local wine bar. I'm a fan of all the wine I had there this far! The flatbread and also the pimento dip was very good. Definitely will go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a fun spot to come in for drinks with a lovely atmosphere. Service is great and never disappoints!

Steve R.

Yelp
What a great experience! My wife and I went for small plates. We enjoyed designing our own charcuterie board and the country paella was a real treat. Small place but quite comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the live piano music.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid wine bar. Nothing special food wise but solid place to have some wine, cheese, charcuterie board, etc (it's create your own), and have a relaxing evening. The bartenders are chill. Would recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Love a good wine bar & this one takes the cake in wilm. It's so classy inside with a perfectly warm Ambiance. Extensive wine list with excellent service and food. Perfect spot for a wine night. It can be a classy or causal visit whatever you decide, not too stuffy.

Yelp
Wine and the actual bar has a potential for being an amazing spot. Wine and appetizers were great I mainly had a bad experience as it related to the service. I was clearly being treated differently than everyone else walking into the bar by the mid 30s bartender with the tattoos, fohawk and hat. I barely even talked to the dude. He was giving me Such a bad vibe I even put on my headphones to zone him out. What irritated me the most was he was so Uberly nice to everyone else walking in. And yes I was the only person there other than white but not gonna go there. So if that's what your getting from this review just stop. My interaction was too limited to come to the conclusion race played a factor. So when I barely asked for another drink and only after I saw he wasn't doing anything and free, he said "hold on a second sir, I'm gonna sanitize this table first for someone else." It's not what he said it was the nasty tone he said it in. Then the sweet lady behind the bar with him said, "i got this" and started cleaning it. He had to then come take my order but not first without doing some other Stuff like restocking napkins. Clearly he was doing it on purpose but whatever. Everyone has a bad day so I'll give them another shot at a later time. Hopefully that dudes attitude changes as well if not I will definitely never come back.

Yelp
The ambiance is really nice. I enjoyed the music and the collegiality of folks talking with the musician. My Cuban sandwich was good - not a classic Cuban but a nice twist featuring prosciutto and fresh pickles. The salad side was nice as well. They have a good selection of wines. I am a bit type A, so I found the service to be a bit too laid back for my liking. But that's really on me, I think it worked for everyone else in the restaurant. Maybe I just need to learn to relax a bit more.

Yelp
Delightful wine bar in the downtown historic district. We really enjoyed the selection of wine and the knowledgeable and friendly owner who served us. We chose the antipasto plate with some yummy cheeses and meats, which came with house made mustard, chutney, and pickles. And we had the daily special flatbread, which was excellent. It was such an enjoyable experience. You've got to try it.
google avatar

Suzie H.

Yelp
Husband took me here for pre-diner drinks! We had three half pours and shared a single serving charcuterie board. Portions were a little small for the price, but they were generous with the bread. They have a generous list of wines with descriptions which was super helpful when choosing your drink! Definitely will go back!

Yelp
I have an issue that when I have a reservation, I have to arrive at least 30 minutes early. That does not mean I am going in the restaurant but it means I am close by and can wander around and kill the time before the actual time I booked. With this being said, this is what happened this past weekend. We had reservations downtown and we arrived super early and had 30 minutes to kill and decided to try out the Fortunate Glass. Right when we walked in we were pleasantly surprised to see that there was not a wait or too many people. All of that changed within the next 15 minutes. They were filled to the brim. We were greeted and sat right away and given a little menu that also included a barcode with a fuller menu of all their wine options. I am a Prosecco fiend. It is my drink of choice and when I saw they had a Prosecco Rose by the glass, that is what we settled on. For $8 the wine was perfect. They pour generously and overall I would love to come back with girlfriends or for a date night to enjoy more of their wine selection. Being that we were heading to a dinner reservation we did not try their food, however, saw some of the options being brought out to nearby tables. Next time we will be trying the charcuterie board for sure.

Yelp
Not a better place in Wilmington! One of the best sommeliers in the state with an amazing rotating selection of wines, cheeses and menu items. My go-to order is whatever wine Jordan, Hank or Andrea suggests and the 'Soup of the Week'. Their chef, JP, puts his heart and soul into creating the finest menu and the sous chef, Kate, brings them to life! I try to get in every chance possible as the folks who run this establishment are more a part of my family than they are a restaurant. Indoor and outdoor seating, located in close proximity to the parking deck and just a short block away from the water. The owner, Tom, has created an atmosphere and a brand that I know you're going to love! The Fortunate Glass has everything you need to make the occasion perfect! I promise you won't regret it! If you stop in, tell them I sent ya!
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
Best service! Great food! Always a great experience! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Better yet, let the chef choose!

Chris A.

Yelp
I've never felt more welcomed! Super big bar. Several low-top tables and a small street facing patio. Amazing wine choices - like you can't believe. They have food and it's perfect. Again, the staff made us feel so very, very welcome.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a really fun place to go grab a glass of wine with a friend! After work, they have happy hour where you can get half price meat and cheese boards. Both times I've gone, my friends and I have ordered more than we normally would, because it's half price! There are a ton of wines to choose from, and they have sections for wines by the bottles and wines by the glass. Every meat and cheese I've tasted has been wonderful. Plus, they put so many fun, extra things on the boards, which makes it even better! I love that you can sit comfortably inside, or at a table for two outside. You definitely need to check this place out!

Yelp
My buddy and I stopped in on a Friday evening on Labor day weekend for some good wine and food based off of previous recommendations about this place. We were not disappointed at all. We were quickly seated at bar. Jordan quickly greeted us and asked us both a few question to get to know us. Then he recommended a wine. The first of many tasty choices. For appetizers he recommended we try the "Bruschetta - Melted Brie, Caramelized Onions & Sliced Grapes". It was very tasty and we quickly finished it off. After this we had a two meat, two cheese charcuterie board. Loved the Spanish Manchego and olives. Our last course was Pâté Plate - Assorted Pates w/ Accoutrements & Bread. I personally loved the pork pate. If you love wine and good food, be sure to visit this place while in Wilmington NC

Yelp
Perfect place for a relaxing evening. The staff is super friendly, sweet, and can answer any questions you have about the wine. It's a small place but I like it because it makes it more intimate. The wine list is so song there will for sure be something you like on it and you can try any wines you would like. They also have a choice of half glasses of wine and full glasses. There is also beer on draft if wine is not your choice. The food is amazing especially the meat and cheeses. Being able to mix and match cheese and meats you would like to eat with a choice of at least 8 on eat list, there is something you'll find you love. They also have choices of other food, I ordered the flatbread special with salami, sweet tomatoes, and fresh ricotta. I also ordered the empanadas which were delicious and came with a side salad. The staff is amazing, the wine is amazing, and the food is amazing. I would recommend this place to anyone! They also have free wine tastings Tuesday 6-8 and offer happy hour on other days between 4-7.

Yelp
We went here to celebrate my in-law's 50th wedding anniversary last week, as my mother-in-law really wanted to try it. Andrea waited on us, and was extremely patient with our indecision about which wines to try, and gave us great recommendations about wines, as well as which type of charcuterie to pair them with. The duck confit sliders were also good.
google avatar

Yelp
Was looking for a wine bar without every glass being $15+, and this was the perfect spot. Tapas available made fresh with a very extensive wine list. The bartender, Hank, was fantastic. Not only did he recommend amazing unique selections, when I told him I'm new in town in the industry gave me a bunch of job recommendations. Hands down will be my favorite place to come to. Tuesday's is free wine tasting!!!

Mike R.

Yelp
Our daughter gave us a gift certificate for Christmas. We were perusing the menu and wine list on line, when I noticed that they had Chateau Montelena Chardonnay on their menu. The wine that was featured in the movie Bottle Shock. I told my wife, we will go there, if for nothing else, to drink a bottle of the Chateau Montelena. The restaurant and wine did not disappoint. The wine, a 2016 vintage, was delicious. We started with a global cheese with Denmark Blue and the Danish Harvarti. Served with nuts, fruit and crunchy bread. The cheese plate had all the goodies. I had the Country Paella made with Duck Confit. Outstanding. My wife had the Flatbread of the day. Also delicious. We ate our meals and drank our wine and took a brief walk on the waterfront to take in the view. A Beautiful day was had.

David W.

Yelp
Good selection of wines. Great atmosphere and decor, and thought it was a good date spot. Service friendly and accommodating. Mostly small plates and they were out of some menu options the night we visited unfortunately so cannot rate food. Off season, so not a biggie. Will visit again.

Yelp
We visit several times whenever we are in town and always are overly impressed. Tonight however, we had the best dinner and wine pairing thus far. Highly recommend the daily Flatbread and Duck empanadas. They will not disappoint! Enjoy! Many thanks to team at The Fortunate Glass for making us feel welcomed and special. Jon, Caroline, and Trina

Yelp
Love love love this place! Hank and Andrea are always so welcoming and wonderful. Best deserts downtown! Wonderful wine selection. Truly a gem. Tom is an awesome business owner and really created a wonderful environment!

Yelp
Visiting Wilmington and was lucky enough to come across this place. So glad we did. Had a couple glasses of wine and ordered some of their cheeses and meats. Their selections of wine are probably the best I've seen with reasonable prices. The flavors of the meat and cheese plate were amazing. Everything on the food menu looked yummy so we are going back today to try more. And everyone there is super nice!!
google avatar

Lucy R.

Yelp
Upscale lounge featured international cheese and meat selection with hot, toasty bread paired up with interesting wines by the glass makes this a must stop for wine lovers. A nice break from the yahoo's on honky tonk row (Front Street).

Sydney R.

Yelp
Went to The Fortunate Glass for the first time today, sat outside & had fantastic service! Half price charcuterie from 4-7pm meant that all this only cost about $17. We enjoyed some local draft beers & will most definitely be going back again to try dessert!

Yelp
This wine bar has been on our "must visit" list for a while and it didn't disappoint. This is the perfect spot to go if you 1) love wine 2) enjoy a relaxing setting 3) want to "adult" in downtown Wilmington. There is a huge wine list and knowledgeable help behind the bar to steer you in the right direction. Trust your bartender! I had a wine from New Mexico that was sublime (who knew)?? If we hadn't driven ourselves downtown, we would have stayed and enjoyed a few more glasses of wine and stayed for dinner. It was so much fun exploring the menu. We will be back! There's a wine-tasting event every week so I would recommend checking out their website for all the details. Cheers!
google avatar

Ralph R.

Yelp
We came down here after an event and absolutely loved it. The wine list ist impressive and in my opinion the best in Wilmington. As far as food is concerned the have an offering of charcuterie, and small plates We ordered a plate of Pâté which was delicious, an order of the Duck Confit Sliders and the Paella with Duck Confit. Both very tasty. The ambience is great. But the icing on the cake was when Tom the Owner came by and chatted for a bit.
google avatar

Rayliene C.

Yelp
The fortunate glass is great! The atmosphere is on point for a wine night out. Their wine selection had anything your heart can desire when it comes to wine. The only downfall of the place is the service wasn't as personal as I'd like it to be in such a small place. I like to have conversations with my bartenders when I'm sitting at the bar in an intimate place like the fortunate glass. I won't give less than 5 stars though because it was only one experience and I'm hoping when I go again they will be a little more friendly! This would be a great place for a date night. They have affordable glass options as well as pricer options!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Recently ate here and it was fabulous! The duck empanada was flaky and delicious. Had the soup and flat bread special which were also great. The waiter's wine pairing suggestions were spot on! Will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Kitty C.

Yelp
This is a fantastic wine bar. The staff know the wines and can help you make a worthwhile choice. The tapas are excellent with a "chef's choice" meat and cheese that changes regularly in addition to the standards on the menu. If I loved in Wilmington, I would be a regular.
google avatar

Avery R.

Yelp
Fortunate glass is a hidden gem on Front Street in Wilmington! The owner, Tom, is a staple of the community and so friendly. He really makes you feel at home. The wine glasses are elegant, the selection is extensive and the pimento cheese is OUT OF THIS WORLD! You have to stop into the Fortunate Glass for an afternoon of relaxation.
google avatar

Carrie L.

Yelp
We did not have a good experience here. The bartender was very rude and treated us like we shouldn't be there. We didn't even order, just walked out. I love downtown Wilmington and this is the first place I've felt unwelcome. Unfortunate Glass.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
I had a really great experience here. The wine recommendations were superb and I appreciated they used the proper glass for each wine. I ordered the duck empanadas an they were delicious. I also highly recommend their cheese and charcuterie plates! I went back two more times during my two week stay.
google avatar

Joelle P.

Yelp
This place makes me want to move to Wilmington. No exaggeration, that is how cute this place is. Not to mention, whenever I go to a new city, I NEVER repeat a business because there is so much to see and do...but I went to The Fortunate Glass on Friday night AND Saturday night because they have one of the greatest cheese plates I have ever had in my life. Plus, this place is adorable! And a wine bar! Wine + cheese?! I am in heaven. It is classy yet not pretentious. Upscale yet not snooty. Why does Memphis not have a place like this?! The bartenders are so sweet and friendly. Loved chatting with them as well as their recommendations. I can be obnoxious when I tell them, "you decide" on cheese and wine, but they didn't disappoint at all. Scoot on over there ASAP if you're in the area!
google avatar

Crystal D.

Yelp
We go to Fortunate Glass on a weekly basis. It's super close & one of the only wine bars downtown. They have a specials menu that changes often but the charcuterie, cheese & accompaniments could use some updates. Overall it's a nice place to have some vino & tapas.

Catherine J.

Yelp
Brie Bleu and Bubbles. Best snack ever. Lovely afternoon Beautiful new/reclaimed bar top!
google avatar

Drew S.

Yelp
Had a very nice afternoon at the fortunate glass. Owner was engaging, bartender knowledgeable. Wine selection is one of the best I've seen. Really really enjoyed some of the unique wines. They also have an impressive amount available by the glass. Highly recommend.
