My parents were the ones that told me about this bakery. They have only lived in St. Louis for a year, yet they found a Taiwanese bakery that I hadn't even heard of! Shame on me.
My first taste of the bakery's items were the Taiwanese bolo bun and naisu milk buns my parents had bought me. These buns a little different than the buns I've had at other bakeries, a little on the denser side, but I really liked them. What really sold me were the taro globes. I'm a big taro fan, and the taro globes they made are bursting with taro flavor as they use fresh taro.
My first actual visit to the bakery was with my spouse when we went to pick up mooncakes that we had ordered. We ordered boba, the crispy orange bun, and the naisu milk bun. I've never had anything like the crispy orange bun before, it had some sort of delicious orange glaze on it. I really enjoyed the bun and also my boba. The tea was freshly brewed, and you could tell they are using some quality tea.
On our first visit, one of the owners/baker (Ray) came and spoke to us. We told him how we had heard of him, and that we were bringing the mooncakes with us to family vacation. I loved that Ray took the time to come and speak to us, even though we weren't even regulars. He noticed we were new and wanted to welcome us.
Right before we left, we got a Portuguese egg tart, which looked incredible. When we got home, I knew I had to try it. This was no egg tart like I had ever seen. It was big, dense, and had some slightly charred bits. I took a bite. This was absolutely the best egg tart I had ever had. I had to immediately call the bakery and tell them, which was exactly what I did.
This is a must try for anyone. My recommendations for a first visit are the taro globe and Portuguese egg tart.
