Loved this laid back bar. Their prices are great. I liked the look and feel of the place. The service is great. Eric is a very good bartender. I would definitely come back.

Good people, prices and drinks. A place where people care, especially if you get to know the regulars and the bartenders. They are always helpful, friendly and cordial. This weekend at the Four Faced liar was great and packed with some great ladies I've met. Always a good and relaxing time at the four faced liar.

Fun pub with friendly, fast service and personable ownership. Great selection of beers on tap and spirits. Neighborhood vibe.

Bartender just plain rude. Not even a busy night, just not welcoming at all. Thought he was in a conversation so was waiting patiently when he was apparently ready to take the order so the first thing said when entering was “First time at a bar?” in a really condescending tone. He was continually like this throughout the night. Open and available bar tables weren’t cleaned off for other folks to talk for an hour+. The kicker for me was when two young women were being intensely harassed by a drunk patron he just served, he was just having a cigarette and did nothing, hailing a ride or anything. Overall, just pretty uncomfortable space with too much country music and service that would make me never come back.

I had the time of my life at this place. They play the best music and the bartenders act like you’re old friends. The bartender, Mike, was especially warm and welcoming and made me feel like I was right at home in Pittsburgh like Cheers. 10/10 would go again.

A great dive bar in the WV area. It's cozy And comfortable and offers multiple seating options. Great for both groups and smaller parties. Random thing to note, I love how many bag/coat hooks they had scattered throughout the bar. It's the little things that really make a difference. Normally at a dive I'd order a beer but they had a full bar so me and my date both got standard cocktails and they were good! I'd definitely come back here in the future. 5/5

Nice and a cozy bar. Caught this place while bar hopping on St. Patrick's. It's a pretty decent space with 8 to 12 tables and a bar. As usual crowded on St Patrick's but we had a reservation to avoid the huge wait. Ordered some beers and an Irish Coffee (contains Whiskey) for the table. Ended up ordering the Irish Coffee since there weren't cocktails available. On the whole, it was a good experience. Loved the music too.

The best place for a Guiesness and my own favorite is the Lynchburg lemonade. Much love to staff, Mikey, Jason, Marko, Jimmy, John, as well as the owner Connor, always showing me genuine love for so many years.

I made a yelp account JUST FOR THIS. BOUNCER was rude and didn't let me in when I was fine. He let all of my white friends but not me (I'm Asian) And when my friends asked why he couldn't let me in, he didn't have a reason. If he had a reason maybe I wouldn't have posted this review. But he just sat there with his cowboy hat. I hope this guy is just a contractor because I would actually like to check out this bar one day. Do better!!!

Like all basic white women I studied abroad in college. In NYC I've never found a pub that had the warmth and a good enough Guinness to make me want to consume carbs...I'm sorry SVW I know I shouldn't but it taste just like Ireland here. A nice bloke named Gav took me here. We talked rugby and "crushed pints" it was a good night. I really wish he had family money cause it could have worked. Sadly he didn't fit the bill, but I keep coming back to this place

It was a very dark bar and the bathrooms were really dirty. Lot of seating available but was not my favorite bar. Not rushing to go back unfortunately.

Great place , not uptight or classy seems like a very cool grunge/rock type atmosphere. Beers were good. The vibe is dive dark. Got pretty toasty and the music was rockin. I'm not sure about the restroom situation, they are in a very strange location. Will be back next time

I'm a truly simple human. I love good company, a chill vibe and a well poured drink. There has never been a more beautifully, delicious poured glass of beer in my life, than the three pints I had of Guinness at the Four-Faced Liar. My friend and I visiting NY for a week, met up with some friends from upstate and as we were going about our touristy ways, we ended our night meeting up with them at this bar in the West Village and wow... for a bit early in the night it was super chill and laid back. As my friend began to tell the story of her dad coming to this bar and how its names after a clock tower, I felt like time shifted and I was transported to some local pub in Ireland. It was dark, honestly a little dusty and the tables just big enough to fit the amount of drinks for the four us and I loved every minute of it. A fantastic pub out in the West Village, with a taco spot right across the street. Definitely recommend pregaming before some tacos, then back again for more drinks. Also I love Guinness now. Thanks a lot. lol

I freakin LOVE this bar. It's my go-to with friends. It's so fun, and we always stop here for at least one on a night out. We're known to shoot a few tequila shots back here. ;) cheers!

Went there with my girlfriend and asked to be seated. The waiter seated us outside. So far, so good. As it was cold out and we didn't want to go inside during covid, my girlfriend asked if the heater could be turned on. Waiter's reply: you can do it yourself. Okay, fine. Weird but fine. Here's what happened next: Waiter: what do you want? Me: what do you have on draft? Waiter: what are you looking for? Girlfriend: ... alcohol... Waiter lists off eight or so beers Me: I'll take two Guinnesses and two water Girlfriend: oh, we can't get the heater to work, could you help? Waiter: (sighs -- becoming angry) why don't you guys just sit inside? Brings back our drinks; slams them down. Waiter: that'll be 16 bucks He was so rude that we didn't even want to take a sip. My girlfriend at that point said "no, no thanks. We won't be drinking here." He angrily took the drinks back and said "okay, fine, whatever." This guy is a total nutcase. Avoid this place and the short Latino looking guy at all costs.

If you are a Guinness drinker, this is your spot! I looked up good Guinness bars in the West Village on Google and this place popped up and it 100% delivered. It felt like being at Cheers with a good group of regulars, great bartender (Eric) and a classic Guinness pour!

I have no problem with Four-Faced Liar. I'm just not passionate about it. It's a typical dive bar that offers wells, drafts, and a lot of seating. The crowd tends to be more on the older side -- which can be useful if you're escaping the W4 area. It lays in between the chaos of W4 and the chaos of the West Village. Often times you'll find mellowed out party people in this oasis. It's great for conversation though. We usually use it as a meeting bar. It's busy enough not to be DEAD but quiet enough to have a sensible conversation without shouting. Drinks are average and well enough priced

My real complaint is the lack of available outlets. It seems like an old school bar. It got crowded really fast. They have $3 well drinks special. Me and my friend got trashed as she invited more of her friends to drop by, which was cue for me to dip. Couples get so gross when intoxicated. Get a room. Neat spot. I'll come back.

Pretty concrete bar with a nice interior. I've been twice now and both times have sat at the bar and had very different experiences. The first time was post-drinks after a comedy show at the nearby Zinc Bar, then the Four-Face Liar was calm felt quite easygoing. The second time was a bit of a different ballgame. It was pretty packed and everyone just seemed aggressive. Is that a weird thing to call the energy of people in a bar. Not the aggression that gets you into fights or anything, but a lot of struggling for space and putting across that your needs come before anything else. Safe to say, there were a lot of armpits in my face with people trying to flag down a bartender. The bathrooms are also quite strange, the way the wall is right by them it's hard to form a line or see if someone else was waiting. The bar itself is located in a weird location- not *really* but it works in their favor. It's one of the fewer chill places in the area, especially if you need an escape from the NYU crowd.

Great pub-like bar in west village. Plenty of outdoor seating and tables are spaced with plastic dividers for extra safety. Indoor seating is also available. Service was quick and friendly. Handful of beers on tap but not a crazy selection. Good prices. I'll be back!

Your typical dive bar. They have happy hour specials and a ton of seating (a back area with an older version of Buck Hunter as well). No outdoor seating, but they have big windows by the front (great for people-watching). The booths and chairs have seen better days, but it's the West Village so that's par for the course. Beer selection isn't the best, but there are some gems.

The most unfriendly server. Three of our friends ordered multiple drinks at the bar, and the two of us felt cold sitting inside so we moved outside to sit only for 10 minutes. The server came out and told us we cannot sit here because this is for customers only but there are so many empty chairs and table, and we also ordered at least four drinks! Never coming back again!

Super loud bar. Good for groups who come, you can comandeer any available tables around. Good for people in their twenties. Guinness was creamy and okay.

Good drinks and very reasonably priced for the city. After 6pm on week days, place does become more populated with khaki wearing popped collared pink polo-ed finance bros/interns in the summer

A good post-IFC drink spot and a convenient place to meet for a drink around W 4th. It's got beer, liquor, and plenty of space and tables to sit, yet it's still cozy - what more could you ask of a solid local pub/dive? Also, Big Buckhunter! And euchre meetups on Saturday afternoons!

Not a bad place to hang out, drinks are fine and the crowd is cool. But I probably won't be back because the bartender was weirdly angry and it made us uncomfortable

I have had so many great nights here! This was the last bar I went to before NYC closed for Covid and it was the first bar I went to when NYC re-opened. It is a basic bar, nothing fancy but ALWAYS a great time. The staff is so chill and make you feel like their best friend. They do have space towards the back with a couple arcade games and is also large enough for a medium sized group (10-12 people). Definitely check it out when you're in the West Village!

Very impressive perfectly-poured Guinness pint. It's a rare sight! Thanks to Jimmy for the cool experience - so cool in fact we came back twice in the same day. Very reasonable $6 draft beers during Happy Hour starting at 3PM. That's for any draft beer, folks! Including the aforementioned perfect Guinness! A no-brainer pit stop if you're in the neighborhood. After a slice of Joe's Pizza and/or a Taïm harissa falafel that is...

I forgot how much I loved this place. Its a staple and I love coming here and having a couple drinks. There really isnt much wrong with it other than the bathroom line can get annoying. Darts and Buckhunter in the back keep the kids going back there. That said, the drinks keep flowing, the bartenders are tops. This would most definitely be my local spot if I lived locally...

This is exactly the type of bar I love. It was cozy, good lighting. There was a variety of seating. Good music was playing but not too loud. The drinks were reasonably priced which is a shock considering the neighborhood. The crowd was laid back, some playing games, no pretention. I will definitely be back.

I just moved. And yes its only a 5 or 6 minute walk from my old apartment. But as I told my brother as I set sail on my new adventure, "crossing 6th avenue makes me feel a world apart". In light of that, I needed to find a new bar that is just a "stones" throw away. Well I think The Four-Faced Liar makes the grade. For the west village the prices of beer and wine is more than reasonable and they have a little TV to watch the Yankees or whomever else is on. The crowd def. skews to the local post-work crowd during the week and is a hodge-podge on the weekends, but doesn't come anywhere near the riff-raffy feel of macdougal street. The interior is darkly lit and great for catching up with a friend for a beer or even a first date. I'll be back.

You could say this bar has four faces. the bar, the couples' tables, the card games in the back, and the regulars everywhere else. Tonight i snagged a seat at the bar. This could be anywhere: Cincinnati, South Bend, Grand Rapids. Any time too. But being New York and winter, the Rangers game's on. The bar tender looks out of it but commits tabs to memory. Settle up at the end. Mood lighting a combination of Christmas lights and somebody's mom's lamp. An unironic "thanks pal" at the end with a belated "happy holidays." I won't be back to see the three other sides. A regular told the bar tender the bathroom door handle's missing some screws and got back a big smile with a look like, "And?" Not for me, but I'm happy late stage gentrification still has space for places like this. Be advised: no mezcal substitutes.

I have to give this bar 5 stars based solely on the fact that they have arguably the best buck Hunter setup in the city. I am currently trying to qualify for the buck Hunter world championship (I'm not kidding) so having a great buckhunter set up is huge for me. Aside from the fact that they don't have food the bar itself is fine. Decent crowd, decent music, and good drink prices. They also let you bring your own food in which is nice since I don't know a single person who doesn't want to grab some food after knocking a couple back This is a small, dark, LOUD bar with minimal seating. Its especially loud when the live music is going. They also have a weekely poetry reading. So back to buck Hunter. Buck Hunter is an amazing game often found in bars with the equipment destroyed, the price jacked up, or in an area not particularly conducive to actually playing the game. Four faced liars machine is always in great condition, priced correctly, and in a spacious area of the bar.

A friend and I came here for a quiet drink since we wanted to talk and catch up. We were both a bit surprised that most of the clientele was straight when almost every bar in a few blocks is mostly gay. Not problem at all, though! Just an observation. The bartender was super quick to serve us and there was an open table right away. The noise level was low enough that we could chat and enjoy our drinks without having to yell. We only stayed for a drink but I still recommend this place if you're looking for a more chill alternative in the area.

Great Irish joint nestled in the West Village, don't expect anything fancy here! Decent rail with like 7 options... you got locals, Lagunitas as well as obv Guinness. Nice leather booths surround the bar along with some Irish knick-nacks and such. The bartenders are great which can really make or break a joint, no problems here at all! Usually loaded with Locals who are quick to chat up the tourists and talk about the good old days in The West Village. Prices are cheap for the area as a pint sets you back only $6. Couple TV's by the bar and they watch NY Football on Sundays obviously. Great stop for a quick pint for sure.. or 10! talk later PS- Great Music

This is a cool little bar in west village. Believe it or not, my WOW guild use to host their meet ups at this place. Came here the other night after eating around the corner. The place was pretty packed, bordering on uncomfortable but everyone was friendly. The drink selections are ample and bartenders pretty friendly. No one was acting a fool but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It's a good place to meet with friends and just have a couple drinks. The decor is mostly wood with dim lighting. It's a smallish bar so if you're bringing more than 10 people, it might be a problem. Prices were pretty on par with the rest of the neighborhood. Nothing wrong with this place if you're looking to wet your whistle.

I don't usually like the W 4 area because it's full of college kids, but this place everything I've been had been devoid of co-eds and their male counterparts. The venue is dim almost to a fault but has comfortable tufted couches and is great for groups.

This place Rocks!! Great Guinness and awesome Staff. Great place to meet perfect strangers. In the Spring and Summer they have outdoor seating (very limited seats) and you can watch the city just go by. The Four-Faced Liar gets it's name from a clock in Ireland.

We went here on a very chilly nite in soho.. And it turned out to be a nice, cosy place! The girl at the bar, Kelly was so much fun.. i asked her for a margarita, she raised her eyebrow and gave me a smile, while hinting "ur clearly in the wrong bar missy".. It was all beer downhill here for me, I usually am not a beer person hence first asked for tinis and ritas.. She then suggested a very gud IPA, yes my first infact! Bell's two hearted ale.. It was perfect for my taste buds! I think I m gona do this one again surely:) Great place to hangout with friends with some great prices.. Al irish, all beer, no food! ;) U can get your own food.. Worth the visit:)

The Four-Faced Liar is awesome if you are looking for several, specific conditions: 1) A laid back place that's casual, though small 2) Somewhere that won't rush you and your loud, rowdy friends out 3) Don't care that it's cash only 4) Let you order food in and eat your aromatic food without judging you 5) Don't mind the mixed crowd of young, drunk people and old, slightly tamer though still drunk people If these are all "yes pleases" then by all means, come on down to The Four-Faced Liar, and sip on a cheap, cold beer as you and your friends tear up their couches and tables while fabricating drinking games in the dark corner, and eating taco truck burritos. They'll welcome ya.

I have seven words to share with you about The Fourfaced Liar: mysteriously packed despite overwhelming stench of puke. I keep trying to go to this bar because I enjoy both lying and drinking, but it turns out that I can never make it more than a foot past the doorway because I also enjoy smelling things other than regurgitated Guinness. I cannot figure out why there are always a billion people inside, and three or four more fairly decently dressed fools standing outside dangling cigarettes from their pleased lips on the sidewalk nearby. What gives? During the warmer months they set up tables outside, and they have some pretty decent drink specials, but if you try to go there during the winter I suggest toting an avant-garde-fashionable gas mask to keep out the aggresively wafting stench.

What a fun little Irish bar! We were in town for a quick trip and my gf had a friend who was a local and suggested meeting here. After a full day of throwing axes and a crazy brunch, we met him here. It's small but the service is excellent and it has a great vibe. It's also across the street from the best poke spot which was divine to eat as I sipped my wine at the bar. I definitely recommend this spot!

Nah.. There are way too many bars around west village. This one isn't particularly amazing or special. Just another bar by the corner. You like the bartender when you become a regular but that's it. Drinks aren't bad, $6 beer and $6 well drinks around the happy hour time frame. It gets quiet loud after 7pm and always crowded and a bit dirty on the wkds.

One of my favorite pubs in the Village. EXCELLENT staff that make sure you have fun. Jazz night or open mike are well done. I've had more fun here that at a Lewis Black concert. Oh, yeah, I met him there too.

Best poured guinness I've had all day (eight to be exact). To my compliment, the bartender remarked, "this ain't my first rodeo"... ...5 minutes later he damn near hit a customer at the bar while spinning a pint in his hand, smashed everywhere. Fucking hilarious, I'd come back.

Another negative degree windchill day in the city and I was meeting friends from out of town setting up to work on a big NFL sports gig in NJ, needed a comfy spot to pass the time and have a few pints. Left another rowdy downtown spot to come here.A movie was queued up and gratis Joes' pizza passed around from a previously hosted event that had just vacated. Guinness+Joe's pizza+movie+good bartender+totally chill vibe = excellent hang. I'll be back with friends.

Cool little spot in the west village. 3/5 because it lacks a little. Nice service, no food. No big screens or variance of what's on tv in terms of sport. I went on a Sunday afternoon and by the crowd you can tell it is a local for a few people but not one you should rush out to.

This is by far one of my favorite bars in Manhattan. Before you bash me as an inexperienced Manhattanite, understand my criteria: reasonably priced, good strong drinks, friendly staff, chill vibe and cool people. This place fits the bill for all of those. I usually order one of three things here (or all three)--a gin and tonic, a jack and coke, or a Guinness. Sure, they're simple, but this place makes them so well why change it up? Also, easily the best-poured Guinness I've had in Manhattan. If you're looking for a good time with enjoyable drinks at a price that won't break the bank (especially for its WV location), can't go wrong @ the 4face.

Four-Faced has become a local joint for me after work. Relaxed atmosphere, awesome prices, friendly bartenders and sometimes free popcorn. Also great on sunny days when they have tables outside and you get to watch all of the homless people and the drag queens and the tourists and mounted policemen and Ferraris and NYU students and the old timers and the weirdos and the normals and the cockroaches walking down W 4th. Fun fact: I once was the mayor of Four-Faced Liar on FourSquare. For like three days. Very exciting. Where are you going wait come back

Nice chill place to end the evening, but I'd suspect this place is a better happy hour spot with some coworkers than a place for a weekend night. The drinks are OK, and the bouncer is nice. Though I suspect he is nice because he is not doing his job and definitely letting in some under age NYU kids... Yeah that's right, I can tell they look 19, you should be able too as well.

Sit at the bar and let the bartender pull you a nice pint of Guinness. I have a bet going on. The next trip there if he doesn't recognize me I'll get a free glass!
