The ’70s Are Back in Style at the Groovy Fox Den in Redondo Beach | Eater LA

"A 1970s-influenced cocktail lounge opened in early February 2025 at the southern edge of Redondo Beach, offering beachgoers and locals a comfortable place to gather for easygoing drinks and vibes. The new bar comes from Seth Weiss, Keiran Harrington, and Brian Duff, the owners of Hermosa Beach’s Fox and Farrow and the adjacent Underground. Located in the former Pats II space, the transformation took two years to complete; during the buildout, Weiss described Fox and Farrow to designer Sage Allard as the type of place Don Draper would call “spectacular” if he woke up in 2025, and Allard translated that concept into terracotta walls, emerald green zellige tile accents, and a long bar lit with Sputnik pendants. Old Pats II booths are gone, replaced by loungey spaces for groups with clusters of oversized round velvet chairs interspersed with black leather seats that “might have been in an airport back in Draper’s day,” entryway walls lined with fake fur as a nod to ’70s fur coats, and Barbie dolls affixed to the restroom doors. The drinks menu, designed by Keiran Harrington, Brian Duff, and Harrington’s twin brother Kirk, mixes ’70s classics (Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Godfather, Negroni, Moscow Mule) with house cocktails: an easy-drinking Gin Gypsy made with gin, St. Germain, lime juice, muddled cucumber, and mint; the Pink Panther, which combines vodka, Chambord, fresh-squeezed lemon, cream, and Luxardo cherry into a drink “reminiscent of a boozy push-pop”; and The Han Solo, an updated Boulevardier with bourbon, Campari, sweet vermouth, Angostura Bitters, and orange peel. Beer offerings include local names such as a Hop Saint pale ale and El Segundo’s Mayberry IPA, while the wine selection features sparkling choices, California Sauvignon Blancs and other whites, and a handful of Paso Robles and Central Coast reds, all in the $14 to $16 range. With Fox and Farrow focused more on wine and Underground appealing to a late-night sports-bar crowd, the lounge’s thoughtful cocktail menu sets it apart. “The vibe is nice but not pretentious,” says Weiss. “The feel is comfortable and relaxing.” Situated within walking distance of both the beach and Riviera Village’s restaurants, easy to park and intended to serve as a place both to start and end evenings, Weiss calls the locale “an amazing neighborhood,” adding, “People here like to have a good time.” Open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m." - Jessica Chaintreuil

I’ve been to The Fox Den twice and both times, the cocktails were fantastic—elevated, balanced, and worth sipping slow. The vibe is equally on point: cozy, stylish, and a great addition to South Redondo. Sidebar: If you like your Manhattans straight up (like I do), and Fitzy (sp?) is working, be sure to let her know beforehand. She automatically serves them on the rocks—nice rocks, yes—but those are for Old Fashioneds, IMO.

I must say my experience was horrible, been there once and will not return… nothing South Bay about this bar more of a West Side ambience. Does not fit the South Bay Vibe. Bartenders are dry and make you feel like you are bothering them. Should have kept Chloe from Pat’s and got rid of the robots in suits.

This place is amazing. The decor, the lighting, the ambiance, it's perfect. The bartenders are great and the drinks are incredible. Do you want an actually good dirty Martini? They have one on the menu! The margaritas and (true) classic cocktails are great too. The music is top notch too with an in-house DJ on the days I've been there, but I will say it's too way too loud on the lounge side of the bar. The dance floor is small but poppin, but the lounge side is a bunch of people leaning too far forward in their chairs and attempting to scream at each other over the music. We left with sore throats just having normal conversation, lol. That's the only point to dock, please mildly adjust the sound system on the one side of the house.

Beautiful place to hang out and have a drink or 2 or 3 with a friend. Decor is well designed, put together and matches the overall vibe and the drink menu. Drinks here are a good mixture of classics with an updated twist. Tasteful yet not overly cute which can be a turn off sometimes when you want that classic stiff drink.

What a perfect addition to the South Bay! I've been on the hunt for a bar with this kind of vibe and quality drinks & I'm so glad we finally have one!! The location is ideal, surrounded by amazing restaurants, making it the perfect spot for a post-dinner drink. The first time I visited (on a weekday) there was only one table left and every seat was taken, but it still didn't feel chaotic. The last time I came, it was packed to the point where you could barely move but the drinks are sooo good that it was still worth it! Maybe just avoid weekends if you're not a fan of crowds, lol.

My friend accidentally bumped into a photo that wasn't secure at all, within a cramped area. It tipped over, and the manager/owner (grey hair geezer) began scolding my friend and our party. We tried to explain and apologize, with loud music blasting, that it was an accident, but he continued to curse us out. Terrible. DO BETTER! We are local, and tipped well all night too. Pity.

I mean...if you're into this sort of thing... Used to be a badass dive bar with character. Now it's trying to play dress-up as an "upscale cocktail lounge", but their "signature craft cocktails" are just sad, overpriced versions of what you'd expect from a gas station happy hour. Watered down, no balance, no flavor. One drink tasted like someone whispered the name of a fruit into a dirty glass and poured flat well liquor over ice. Speaking of dirty glasses...yep, we got one. Awesome. Even worse, one of the bartenders was inexplicably rude to the incredibly kind, patient couple sitting next to us. No reason. Just snide and dismissive. It was uncomfortable to witness. Couldn't hear myself think over the loud music. Zero vibe, no soul, just expensive fluff masquerading as a vibe. Pat's II may have had sticky floors, but it had heart. This? Sorry to say, but this is just noise...to me, anyway. But, hey, it might be your thing. Check it out, decide for yourself. From what I hear, the owners are pretty cool people, so I'm not knocking what they tried to create from the bones of Pat's. Their vision has potential, maybe we just came on a bad night.

A great new addition to the neighborhood! The Fox Den redid and upped the ante with swag from the entrance to the drinks. When entering the Fox Den you're greeted by a fur wall that you just can't help running your fingers through. Great ambiance and decor, met by a talented bartender mixing up some signature cocktails, that are a bit pricey for a neighborhood joint (and verses the previous proprietor Pats II) Full bar seating with little tables to chill, darts and music over the sound system. They were pretty creative with the restroom signage. Tip- no food served here, cocktails only. Parking lot in the rear and on the street.

We stopped into this place and were very impressed with the decor and interior. Kevin, the bartender for the afternoon service was so friendly, nice and spot on with his drinks. This is a great spot for South Redondo, you can't be anything else but truly impressed. We will definitely be back.

Such a cute cocktail bar. This is the spot where you either start or finish your night...or BOTH. The cocktail menu is extensive and each concoction is delicious. The service is on par. Seating arrangement is limiting because there are three areas for parties larger than four, otherwise there is the bar or you're stuck sitting in a pod of four chairs. Luckily, we got there as they opened so we were able to secure one of the larger areas for our party of 5 or it would have been awkward having the 5th person stand or sit on arms of a chair. I love that they allow outside food since there is no kitchen. Cannot wait to go back and order some Uber Eats!

Fun, laid-back vibe with excellent service. The cocktails are crafted with care using high-quality ingredients. Despite being busy, there's plenty of seating, allowing everyone to lounge comfortably. No food served, but they're cool with bringing in outside food to pair with your drinks.

This use to be a different bar that me and my friends use to like going to so when we seen that something new had opened we definitely had to scope it out and I must say I was impressed this place is so clean and well put together very beautiful location. We ordered a couple of drinks and boy were they delicious I will definitely be going back again

Great service at the bar. Friendly bartenders and great drinks. Many of their custom cocktails are just renamed standard drinks, but that's fine, and they are well made with fresh ingredients. The place looks like a dive from the outside, but is really clean and upscale on the inside. The crowd is similarly young to middle-age upscale and isn't too crowded at an early 8-9pm hour. Highly recommended.

I tried this lounge last night (Saturday night) and it gets really packed. You're lucky if you score a seat, but they do have comfortable lounge chairs that my boyfriend and I sat in. The crowd is older, (30s-50s). A lot of couples. A dj came on later in the night and the music is great. They have two dart boards that no one seem to give any attention to. The bartenders are attentive and make good cocktails. They don't serve food, it's strictly cocktails and beer. I suggest arriving early or going on a week night. When I left around 10 pm there was a line out the door with a man checking IDs in the front. A great place for a girls night or date night but there isn't much place to stand so try to arrive early to find seating!

Ok this one will absolutely surprise you!!!! We actually lived across for this location for 15 years and never once went into Pats because didn't fit us. My wife came home last week and said there's a new bar we needed to try because her friends can't stop talking about it at work. Well I'm not the one to not try something new and let me tell you this one will knock it out of the park for you!!! Unbelievable cocktails and the Bartenders are freaking top notch absolutely loved the drinks and some great conversations with the bartenders definitely a 10 out of 10 for sure!! Dress nice it's a bit bougie and I'm going to mention this one more time the cocktails are absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!

Saw this place opened up a couple weeks ago & super glad I tried it! I've been twice with friends & it's a really cool little spot. Kinda like a lounge and more lowkey. I went on a Monday my first time so it really wasn't busy, but then went there on Friday on valentines day with a friend & it was packed! There was a DJ set which was fun. Drinks are really good & bartenders super nice! Such a great new spot in the area, different than the usual places in the village.

Loved this place. Reminded me of a New York bar with South Bay vibes. So loving the vibe here. OLD-FASHIONED - very good. MANHATTAN - this was just ok for me HAN SOLO - this was very delicious FRENCH 75- loved this drink. . Can't wait to come back!!

The cocktails are honestly pretty good and the interior is beautiful, but the vibe is destroyed by the worst DJ on the planet and the loudest, most crowded space I've ever been in. Overall, this place can't commit to a theme--is this a slinky cool 70s themed den? Or is this a viagra-fueled raucous night club? It's weird to serve an overfilled dirty martini (again, tasty!) in a space where there is no chance it won't be spilled all over you. I started to get into the groove when the DJ finally played some vintage throwbacks that fit the 70s vibe, but the music is BLARING, and it schizophrenically bounces around from groovy crowd-pleasers to Y2K throwbacks to high-paced club music. I've honestly never winced so much in a bar before--I have a pretty high tolerance for loud music, but the volume just does not match the setting. There's not even really a dance floor so it's just not a cohesive feeling. And the DJ just skipped over the chorus of Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" so that should tell you anything else you need to know.

Hard no on this place! Parking is horrible! The drink I got tasted bland ! Service was good but my bartender had to get off shift. Two other bartenders there but they could care less. They were too involved talking to some big group to service us! I was over it! Paid for one round and I was outta there! I sat right in front of the bar condiments and they were all dry and yuck! I won't be back!

I've been there a couple of times. Cute little place. Nice people. Friendly and prompt service. Always busy. Great music. No room for dancing though. You can order only drinks but you can order food and have it delivered. There's a nice pizza place close by.plenty of parking on the south side of the street.

The place itself has a really cool vibe and lots of potential. However, I was there with two of my friends and all three drinks were pretty bad. Two I would say were undrinkable because they tasted awful as if they mixed a bunch of bottom shelf liquor together and hoped for the best. There was only one bartender at the time and the place wasn't full so maybe he was just having an off night but all three of us agreed that we have never had drinks as bad as those in recent memory. And especially for the price it was pretty disappointing.

Looked up nearby lounges on yelp and thought this placed looked cool. It did look nice inside, but the vibes were way off. Not sure if being in your mid to late 30s makes you too old to be in this bar, or maybe it was my boyfriend being hispanic and a few shades too dark for this crowd, but we were ignored and felt completely unwelcome. We waited as the big goofy bartender attended to everyone except us, and eventually we called out to him to see if we could order a drink, he put his finger up without ever saying a word or making eye contact, indicating we needed to wait, but never came back to take our order.. They continued to take water requests and even took the time plug in someone's cell phone to charge until we finally we got the attention of the other bartender that served us. $16 for a woodford and coke is wild but the blatant racism was worse. Unless you're a white college kid with money to burn on overpriced drinks, this place probably isn't for you. If you want to have a great experience here, make sure you aren't brown or a day over 21! :)

I went to here on a Saturday night with a group of friends after a birthday. Firstly, it was PACKED at 11pm. The place was sooo nicely decorated. The vibe was hitting. The music was very danceable and just created a memorable night. The crowd was age appropriate mostly late 30's and up. It's nice to see a place that caters to more than just the twenty something crowd. All the bartenders were great. They were well staffed. Drinks were good. They had comfy chairs and love seat to sit on. Very loungy like. BEST PART....there were more men than women. Ladies, the ratio was definitely in our favor. All the guys were good looking too. I WOULD definitely come back just for the vibe.

Here's the thing: while the place screams "craft cocktails," the drinks are anything but. Think 5-star ambiance, 1-star drinks. Everything we ordered felt like overpriced dive bar fare--watered down and flavorless, better suited for plastic cups than high-end glassware. Crowd skewed older, but the vibe was great and the music was good. Maybe just stick to beer and wine here!

What a fantastic new bar! I loved sitting on their very comfortable lounge chairs, facing the door. Literally every person that walked in to The Fox Den last night had the same thought: "this used to be Pat's 2?" with jaw dropped. What an incredible difference new ownership has made. The space exudes class; the couches, comfortable and elegant. The cocktails are amazing and beer selection is great. I expect The Fox Den to be EXTREMELY busy in the coming future. I'll be back many times to be sure!

Went here on a Tuesday night with my friend and I was floored by the ambience. Such an enchanting, old world but CLEAN aesthetic! Drinks were all fairly priced, bartenders were so nice!! Ty made sure to wish me a happy belated birthday and it was a nice touch. Told the place gets rowdy and fun with a DJ around 8-9pm on Fridays and Saturday nights- need to check that out soon. They only serve drinks fyi, no food. Definitely going to be a regular spot!!!

I went on Saturday night and it had been opens for 2 days. That place is small but very nice. The drinks were delicious and the service was great. Of course they were busy but they were still on top of it all. I will definitely be back. I had a dirty martini with blue cheese olives and it was DELICIOUS!!! Honestly it was amazing! I was surprised. I will be going back soon!

This is a place we really wanted to happen. Redondo needs a good cocktail lounge. The atheistic is good. Reminiscent of a speak easy. Ticks for that. However, the place is a cocktail bar that in our experience served undrinkable cocktails. We ordered three cocktails and none of us finished. They were unbalanced and not even average. A shame.

'The Den' is a great looking bar. Entrance has 'fox fur' on the walls. Interior is furnished with great lighting fixtures (moody), other 'fox' decor, and a long, long bar. Great service. Only negative is no food. This is a drink only bar. Ambiance is terrific. Highly recommend.

Nice small bar very close to the beach, but what makes me give this place 5 stars is the drinks, man they are so tasty well balanced and they hit you hard, Roman is an excellent bartender, definitely we will be coming back soon!

There is a new food spot opening up right next door though, so there's options if you need a bite. I'm excited to come again and try more of their house cocktails!

The environment was super chill and cozy it's my new favorite dive bar in town. The walls are terracotta and they don't serve any food just drinks. I recommend this place for romantic dates or to meet someone :)
