Fantastic pub atmosphere. The staff is warm, friendly, inviting, very informed, and passionate about the drinks they make/serve. All in good fun for whatever you choose. Fantastic for a scotch whiskey or bourbon enthusiast. Quite frankly, the best old-fashioned I’ve had outside of Wisconsin (thanks Mike).

Mike and Sam are fantastic. Small town vibe. Awesome whiskey selection. Locals recommend. East coasters take note. Distributors in tonight- support local.

Food (wings and fries) are great! They might not have a kids menu, but they’re kid friendly (at least at 6 pm they were). Plenty of seating upstairs.

Really awesome pub! Excellent staff! Really good bar style food! Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable about the rotating draft menu and didn’t skip a beat when it came to our orders! The beer was fantastic! Especially the shadow puppet guava sour! All in all I enjoyed the experience, definitely will go back when in the area around dinner time on a Friday.

Great Bar, Great Food, Great Service, great atmosphere, and reasonable prices, Fish’n chips was Excellent, Burger and Garlic fries were great, we’ll be back for sure!

I enjoyed this place. Its walking distance from Gallo. Friendly staff nice vibe. I wished we had dinner here instead of Stupid churckly restaurant. That place was terrible. ( Yes, I posted 2/5 stars). Anyways, Two thumbs 👍

It was hot, so we popped in for a beer. The options were pretty wide, 12 beers on tap I think. And my beer was icy cold. They had inside seating and outside. We went ahead and set outside to have our beers, and we were pleased. We plan to stop in again next time we are in the area. Update 2019: I went back and had the food. It's really good. And the beer selection is still fantastic!

Came here to say on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. Food was alright but the drinks were good and the bartender provided excellent service. Overall, it's a nice spot to enjoy a drink.

I loved the party atmosphere. Having to show my ID to get in, like my old clubbing days. I'm 61 so I loved showing my ID. The food was great. Our server was fabulous. I changed her name to "Fabulous " she was the great. And, I can't remember her name. Great IPA beer.

Poor service and unhygienic. There was an event at the Gallo Center at 7:30pm. So my friends chose this convenient location and great reviews. I grabbed a table early and was lucky since it filled up fast. There were four girls total in our group. We ordered two plates of nachos, a sampler, and fish and chips to go with alcoholic beverages. We were mindful to get our orders early before the huge group put theirs in. Our nachos and drinks came out within twenty minutes. But it was half an hour and our sampler and fish n chips didn't arrive. I flagged down the waitress to investigate. Turns out they served our sampler to the huge group. My fish n chips came out minutes later cold. Twenty minutes later our sampler came out. No apologies. It was almost 6:30pm and the waitress said the show was about to start at 7, and hinted we better leave soon. The show starts at 7:30...it was 6:15! Our bill includes a gratuity tax for four people! I heard it was because the show at the Gallo center justified it?! Makes no sense. We tried to complain to the manager at the bar. He made excuses that it was so busy and that our order got mixed with the large group next to us. Dude, just own it. Not the customer's fault his staff can't handle orders. We were inconvenienced with poor service and long wait times. He said he will give us his own meal discount to make up for it. Ok, so being you're across the street from a large venue, and you charge an automatic gratuity tip, means you know large groups come in. So you should know how to handle large influxes of people. Yet your staff is surprised and scrambling to fill orders. Makes no sense. Just apologize and comp the two dishes they screwed up on. Also, the waitresses had long hair flowing freely and fingernails several inches long. That's just unhygienic and gross. Health violation highly suspected.

This placed used to be great, even after the pandemic. It had been almost a year since I'd gone back there, probably like late 2023? I just didn't drink or go out as much this year, but I like to around the holidays. First off, this isn't really a criticism of the entire pub, but one specific server - he wears a beanie most of the time and has a dark beard. Every other server my friends and I have encountered have been nothing but sweet and friendly. Not this guy. It's like he has a chip on his shoulder every time I come in. Once there were three of us and I had to go to the bathroom. I tried the door on the right and it was locked, so I knocked and asked if anyone was in there. No response, so I assumed I needed a staff to unlock it for me. I went up to beanie dude and was like "Can you unlock the bathroom door for me?" He gave me this weird look and said someone was probably in there. I was like well, I knocked and got no response so... He then insisted like "Are you sure?" Dude I'm pretty sure I can tell when a bathroom is occupied or just plain locked. It was like he couldn't believe I was telling the truth. Ever since then he's been super rude to me and my friends when we go in, just really unprofessional and honestly unpleasant. Last night we stopped in just to get one drink each and I get it, it's super busy, we aren't trying to take up your time - we ordered the same thing and even then he made it seem like it was the BIGGEST inconvenience of his night. It makes me not even wanna go anymore which sucks because I love everything else about this place. Maybe he just needs to work on his people skills or whatever. Also, the pub has two bathrooms HOWEVER only one is actually marked with a bathroom sign. That's very weird, especially for a place that gets packed and then people are queuing for one single bathroom not knowing that the other one opposite it is also a bathroom. Having to ask about it seems pretty strange.

Such a cute place ...like going back in time !! Andre was so personable and Johnny on the spot !!! He remembered our order exactly off the top of his head. We were there to see the Paul Anka concert across the street. Andre was able to jump around and help everyone!!! He was up the stairs , helping everyone in the bar and tables around the bar. Then he opened another door and there was another room ..like a hidden speakeasy from the 20s!! The food was delicious!!! It hit the spot. I had a cheddar burger and fries and house salad with blue cheese ! It was all literally to die for. We were in and out in one hour !!! Not to mention we had front row center seats to see Paul Anka and he was amazing and on point As always at the Gallo Center !!!!

Came here on a Saturday night for a drink, after seeing a musical across the street at Gallo Center for the Arts. The decor reminded me of an old Irish bar-- shiny, lacquered wood, dark interior, older worn carpet. The staff was friendly, same for all the patrons. Inside it's a lively, loud place. We were lucky to find a seat at the bar, but additional tables are available up stairs. There's also seating out front. A special drink list sounded enticing, but we opted for the standby vodka/soda and a Redbull before getting back on the road to the Bay Area. We chose this for its proximity to the musical. It's also conveniently across the street from a paid parking lot I'd you can't find street parking.

Don't let the outside scare you, this is a diamond in the ruff. I love the moody vibe and charming decor. This is a place you MUST come try. From the second my son and I walked in the door, the staff was friendly, kind and helpful. Although the upstairs is a little dated, it adds to the old world charm. The BLT is the best I have ever had. Bacon extra crispy (as it should be), fresh, crunchy lettuce and creamy avocado. My son had the house cheeseburger with bacon and onion strings and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. We both had the sweet potato fries, which were fantastic, crunchy on the outside and pillowie soft inside. Then there is the magic sauce. I can not even describe this golden goodness, except to say it's addictive. If you're unsure about what to order, as tour waitress. Ours was amazing and absolutely spot on with the cocktail. My son enjoyed it so much he even left her a sweet note.

Basura. I'm writing this for my fiancé. He was waiting in line for the restroom while we were waiting upstairs with our drinks. He called me letting me know he had been kicked out because an employee had to cut in line in front of multiple people bc "I work here and you won't get your drink as fast enough as you want to if you don't let me go". A crowd of people got kicked out bc they were waiting in line for a minute & this guy just decided to cut in front of everyone and they didn't agree with it bc he came off so entitled. When he came out & saw staff was listening he announced "I said I needed to clean the restrooms" as if that was the reason he was going in... Maybe have an employee bathroom? Maybe be courteous & ask if it's okay to use the restroom since he's apart of the kitchen/staff before a forever line of people? Not act so entitled? To add... the waitress came out before we left asking if we needed change the second I put cash down. I told her we were still counting the total out. We were going to pay even after everything that happened. Never coming back. The new service is gross.

Was about to have what looked like a delicious Moscow mule. Instead of lime I got a roach garnish. Guess he wanted some to!

The Fox Club November 7th We got into town from LA on a Thursday afternoon and decided to check out The Fox Pub. It was late the afternoon, early evening time of the day so it wasn't too busy. We picked a spot at the bar. The bartender "Monica" was super cool. We ordered Fish and Chips, Artichoke Jalapeño Dip and the Chicken Club sandwich. Everything was delicious! Even the tortilla chips which came with the dip were crisp and tasty. We found out they are made regularly by Maria, Monica's mom. Talk about freshhhhh, crispy and authentic! We ordered a few Old Fashions to finish off our late lunch early dinner and they were spot on. Monica said they make them to perfection the in memory of one of their former mixologists "Josh" as it was one of his specialties and he was a master at his craft. Josh... You're name precedes you. Rest In Peace. This place was so good, we all returned again on Saturday night and met Collin and Mike who were super cool in making sure we all had a great time! My only wish is to have a Fox Club back home. Until then, we'll just keep stopping in every time we come back to Modesto to visit.

One of my favorite pubs in the Central Valley. My buddies and I love coming here to grab drinks, pub grub and catch up. This prime corner spot is in the heart of downtown Modesto and is the life of the party. What I love about this place is the atmosphere. It makes me feel like I'm back in Ireland again. (Yes, it's a British pub). What makes this place very Irish is the Guinness. They have one of the best Guinness on draft I've ever had on the west cost. Even my dad who came to visit from Ireland loved it. They have a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy the beautiful weather and a spacious upstairs to enjoy with small and big groups. Lastly, the food here is surprisingly solid. I usually order a basket of fries and wings to pair with my adult beverages.

Came here last night(8/6)with a friend and sat downstairs near the bar. For the life of me,I can't remember the bartenders name(brunette young man with a trimmed beard)but he was super amazing and helpful with food and business choices. We got here right at 6 ish when they opened. For a Friday it was nice and not packed,at least downstairs. But he said it would later. I had the fish and chips but with a salad. The fish was soo good. He said they lightly batter them then set them away and rebatter and fry when they are wanted. I think that's how he decstibed it. But it makes them soo good. My friend had the grill cheese and she liked it! I love the decor. Bathrooms were clean and big. Will stop in again!!

Great atmosphere and good food. Definitely a nice place to hangout with a group of friends for drinks and food.

Love the Fox pub, always a good time with some of our favorite bartenders and waitresses. Mike, Joe, Lexi, Elias and the rest of the staff. Yummy bar food and drinks. Mike sure keeps those Coronas cold and best salt rim ever!! always have a chill time.

Convienently located close to the Gallo Theater. They have decent food and the prices & service were fair. If you have a large group, you either sit in a banquet room off of the bar, or they sit you upstairs. The problem with that can be "out of sight, out of mind". However, if you want a quiet place, it is a good choice. I'm sure we'll go their again.

the bartender has horrible customer service he is rude and disrespectful. heard him yelling at a people

It has been about a year and a half since I experienced this but never got around to leaving a review. Today I have some time though. This is the worst service I've ever had. I was ordering a round of shots for me and 5 friends when I came in with a bottled drink and the guy with the beard was just demeaning and yelled at me to get out of the establishment. When I apologized and threw away the drink he wouldn't talk to me and kept repeating for me to leave. So I left and haven't returned since! Seems like I'm not the only one that has experienced rude service here based on the reviews. Hopefully this place shuts down to make room for a more respectable bar in this area that doesn't treat customers like trash.

Tuesday night, I went there with my friend and they didn't haven any seats at the bar. We pulled up some seats and they told us we couldn't sit at the bar. Why? This is a bar isn't it? Anyway we left. Felt discriminated. I mean they can't blame COVID since they haven't take the pandemic into consideration this whole time.

Great spot to grab a beer. Ambiance is unique with velvet couches upstairs. The food is just ok but does the trick if you're feeling hungry after a few beers.

I have not been here for years and I went with a friend who needs to eat gluten free. I also have some eating limitations. We looked at the menus online and based it partially on that. When we got there it was a pair down menu with literally a fourth of what the menu showed online. The salad choices that we thought they had we're not available along with a lot of the other things. If they're going to do that they really need to change their website and not have it be so misleading. Also they need to get some good housekeepers in there to clean it better because it was not clean. And I went hoping there would be some true English pub type offerings which have been eliminated it appears. we were very disappointed! I

Staff was rude. One of the workers was super rude to us when we asked him for a drink. Gave us a stupid look then went to the other side and asked others if they wanted to order. I thought maybe they asked to order before we asked but through the night I noticed he was being rude to certain crowds & they weren't being rude. Seems like a little discrimination but I wouldn't recommend coming here if you don't "fit in" to their usual crowd. Really sad because anyone and everyone should be welcomed with a smile and good service

Service is great! Had bartender fix me his old fashioned and I feel like I've never really had one before now. The flavor is amazing and it is probably the smoothest thing I've ever tasted. Complex flavors, no burn. Right or wrong, I paired it with their fish and chips and am leaving so satisfied. Two huge pieces of fish and awesome fries! Next time I'm in Modesto I will definitely be back to the Fox Pub!

This place should not be serving food. Stopped by before a show to have a quick meal. The fish n chips were soggy and cold, nachos bad as well. Just horrible food period. Service was ok nothing to brag about. Will not be returning.

After a night out one of the works called my friend the N word and also got charge the full price after they took are drinks away

Ask and keep your receipts for your record! Checked my statement and was charged more than I should. They gave themselves a tip although a tip was already been given. Young bearded guy was our bartender.

I cannot fathom the feelin of not being serviced foot before 11:00 pm. My friends and I got there at 10:45 and they did NOT service food after that, not a big deal right. But what disgusts me if that, thag Assyrian worker, as well we the young Curly headed individual that as been there for some time, both recommended using the bathroom in the alley after confirming that their customers take shits in the alley near their establishment. The Fox Pub employees, as well as the 21 year old Samoan Bouncer, refused to let me use the establishment restroom because "the owner is getting on their ass and the workers have to clean the bathroom" so they cannot and absolutely cannot let anyone use the restrooms even if you have a medical condition, due to the fact that the owners do not allow costumers to use the bathroom, or the owners have their employees refuse customer their right to use the restrooms after a certain hour event though they are still open. After the Samoan bouncer and the curly heard employee that has been there for 6 years or so, recommended to use the alley for the bathroom, I could not be more disgusted to actually go to the alley and find out that their employees really recommend the alley closest to the establishment to use your bathrooms needs, then this is the place for you. If you don't mind walking through shit or walking into shit recommended by this establishment, then this shitty low life place is for you!!! Blame the owners or the coworkers, but they condemn this behavior, owners or employees, turnly disgusting place. I've even seen females going number 2 and pissing on the alley nearest to The Fox Pub. Go to a better establishment. Truly disgusting after hours, no remorse. The oldest employees are the worst. Recommended to shit and piss in the alley near them.

I've been to the Fox Pub numerous times in the past and it has changed tremendously. Their service is lackluster. My boyfriend and I waited for 20 minutes to place an order for food before we decided to leave. Our waitress was not attentive and was rude. If you want to just drink and chill downstairs at the bar this place is okay.

Hey Yelpies you need to give this place some well deserved love. The reviews are not in line with what I just experienced. The pulled pork quesadilla is off the hook and very well priced. The staff was great and the cook came out to talk to me about the food ... Who does that anymore. Really guys and gales give this place another try

Great food and service upstairs in the seated area, bar is a tight squeeze but awesome service just a classic Irish pub Pros: food,beer, service Cons: two single person bathrooms hahahaha

As far as atmosphere of the establishment goes, I would give this place a 5. Out service was good, but it could have been better. I think an additional server for the place would have helped. Drinks were good but the food was terrible. My friends and I got the sampler and boy did it look great on the menu and on the Yelp reviews! The chicken was so dry, no one was interested in it. We pretty much ate the fries. Their house sauce is really good, if you slather your chicken in it, it could be better.

Ever wondered where all the douche bags meet up for their weekly get together? Well, look no further! Situated at the corner of 'why am I here' and 'get me outta here', this bar has all the likings of somewhere you reallllllly shouldn't be. Firkin & Fox has loads of potential, but a revamp is desperately needed. Their drink menu, or lack there of, only had like 6 drinks on it (besides beers on tap) and their food was so greasy, I should have just asked for a bucket of oil on the side of my drink. The waitress tried her best to manage the entire upstairs section, but we were left waiting for so long for absolutely everything we ordered, that it left a bad impression. (Not her fault!) Our drinks took about 25 min to receive, our food another 15ish, and our bill? Ugh! I just wanted to leave and shower. What a lovely surprise I had waiting for me, when I see someone decided to write a bunch of shit on my car. Modesto: do better!

This place has so much potential, but they lack in customer service. The last time we visited we sat upstairs. Our waitress asked us to wait 3 times for our drink order. It took well over 30 minutes to finally get our appetizer and that was after complaining to the manager about the wait. When I did complain to the manager he only made excuses for his waitress. With the amount of people there we should have been out in 45 minutes, instead we waited well over an hour for service and food. Advice to the employees...if you want a tip you must work for it and earn it!!!!

We've been going to The Fox Pub everytime we go to The Gallo Center. They make you feel welcome, especially Mike, who actually seems to remember you no matter how long it might have been. We also met the owner, Sharon, who is a wonderful lady who values the people that work for her. Seems more like a family affair. My usual is the Fish & Chips, and my wife Loves their burger. If you are downtown, near the Gallo Center, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND stopping by. Their prices are reasonable, the people fantastic, and the food is great. Tell them Tom & Teri sent ya 8^)

I called last night for reservations. Yelp & Maps says they take reservations. I was told they do not anymore. The gentleman I talked to said they were understaffed. I'm a patient understanding person but he got a bit snotty with me so I gave him the same attitude. I would think that taking reservations only would keep things under control. I do understand that staffing has been hard on most businesses but why are changes not being done online. That is where customers get their information. I have eaten at your place many times but now I will choose another place to eat before a Gallo show. Party of 4 would have been a nice bill with tips. Too bad for bad management

I walked in and it was somewhat busy The bartender was talking with a bunch of people by the bar. The problem is I stood there to be waited on and he didn't even turn my way. The waitresses were busy, but didn't go up and even greet me. It's just proof that another Modesto business needs great customer service. And I see that they are located near the Arts Center, that's probably what they are resting on. Service will make or break a business. I have been too this business before and the service was fine no problems, but this was when it was named Firkin & Fox. Modesto needs better service.

Hostesses are very kind, fast service with great bites and a solid list of drinks to choose from. A very cozy feel, especially upstairs, but when the AC is on it can be a bit chilly. A great go to before a show at the Gallo Center!

We stopped by here for an early dinner before a concert at Gallo. Great service, cold 805 on tap, nachos and some wings. The bourbon bbq sauce on the wings is DELICIOUS! Sticky and sweet with a little heat. Good portions and priced right.

Probably the only good bar in modesto , great environment and social atmosphere not a lot of old people

I have been coming here for years and I have never written a review. In fact, the only reason I am writing this one is to acknowledge the stellar service I witnessed from Jessica the bartender. I am going to make a long, cringy story short: There was an outrageously rude customer sitting at the bar. He had been cut-off (great insight by Jessica) and was refusing to pay his $80 tab. He insulted the restaurant, make personal insults towards Jessica and other staff, and generally made customers feel awkward and uncomfortable. Jessica handled this situation with such patience, grace, and class that it inspired me to write a review applauding her excellent customer service. I hope this review finds its way to management so she can be properly congratulated.

Friendly been going here since my early 20s I'm now 32 don't go as often but still has a good vibe when I do. Bar is always busy but be smart and order 2 drinks for your self saves every one time and won't have to wait as long

We went to dine before a show at the Gallo. After walking by us numerous times, our order was finally taken after other people who sat down after us. Our waitress walked by many times again, 4 of those times saying she was going to get our waters.the people who sat down after us already had their food. We were right next to the kitchen. It took her 30 minutes just to bring our waters and that was after I asked the busboy to bring the manager. Its 95 degrees outside, the waters should be automatic. Our food finally arrived, as the manager was on top of it. They brought out four plates and there were six of us. Having not eaten all day, I was hungry. Grabbed a French fry from another plate and the manager asked if we were sharing a plate. Told her I was still waiting on mine and stealing his food because I was starving. The other two plates then quickly arrived, but our appetizer never did, as well as a tea my friend ordered. Almost everyone liked their food. The roast beef dip was apparently a bit flavorless. The ketchup a bit too sweet for my taste. Normally I am a generous tipper. This is the first time I've left just one dollar and felt weird doing it, but this was the worst waitress I've ever had.

This place is great! Service is sometimes slow but the food is def worth the wait Great place to go before going to the Gallo Great environment & servers are always sweet Highly recommended!

I sat at the bar and Josh the bartender was great. Very friendly and engaging with all the customers. Drinks were on point. Not watered down. All in all, I shall return.

Came here because it's one of the only places in downtown Modesto that's open for dinner on a Sunday. Had tickets to a show at the Gallo theater. If you are going to be at a prime location on the corner you should expect that there's going to be a crowd before the show and be prepared. I'm understanding that a manager had just quit. So I can understand if there was a lack of leader ship on my visit. First of all the front door needs to be extended out because it is way too crowded to stand there as a group of five with tables, and patrons standing around the bar and expect to be greeted by either the bartender or a passing waitress. We were all seated upstairs by Monica. As I ran my hand across the menu to grab it I was instantly cut by shards of glass that were stuck onto my finger. I showed Monica the glass that was in my hand and she was very nice to bring us a Band-Aid. After about 10 minutes we were asked what Drinke we would like. We ordered some cocktails. A Moscow Mule, a mai tai, mango margarita, Washington apple, and a jalapeño margarita. After a while another waitress brought is our drinks the Moskal mule was not in a Coppercap in a regular tall glass and it was horrible. She always gets a Moskal meal's at this location and they're always amazing there wasn't even meant tiny little piece of lime it was super sour horribly made. The mai tai and mango margarita were so syrupy and disgusting. They did not have jalapeño margaritas because apparently a restaurant has no jalapeños in it. So my next option was a Pomona. The grapefruit juice that was in it had the acidic taste from sitting in a can too long. This is 38 minutes into us sitting there before we had even ordered our food. There were tables around us that literally got up and left because the show was going to start. Monica was kind enough to take my drink off my tab and because of the glass incident had told me she wanted to buy me a drink I opted for a shot of Petrone because that's pretty hard to mess up. The waffle nachos were really good the Washington apple drink was good everything else not good. As we were leaving we stopped to have another drink before we leftWe stopped at the bar downstairs to have one more shot the bartender I believe his name was Mike was so arrogant and cocky. Bad attitude like we were doing him a favor by letting him mix our drinks. If you're going to have that kind of attitude you damn well better know how to make a good cocktail. As we left the location I stopped to use the restroom it reeked of urine. Hopefully a new manager will come in soon they can get this place in line or else move out of the location and let something good get put there. Since apparently there's no manager no one ever asked if I was OK after having glass slivers in my finger.

VERY well done calamari aka Burnt. Once brought to our waitress another order was brought out that was soggy. Unfortunately we gave up on the calamari. Sucks because we've had amazing calamari here before! Hope it was a fluke.
