"The Friendly Toast is a reliably weird and wonderful place to hang out for breakfast. The restaurant originated in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and has since brought its scrambled egg rolls, hash brown bowls, and doughnut breakfast sandwiches to six locations in Massachusetts, including this nearly eight-year-old Back Bay spot." - Celina Colby, Erika Adams

Google
Huge respect. Hands down the best diner we've walked into in the USA. The owners have worked hard to be traditional, even down to music selection and no flash coffee's, which I get as a Kiwi even. Hope you guys make it to NZ when you get a chance. My salmon toast breakfast was exceptional, full of great flavours and goodness! Attentive staff, great food and I love their craft and passion, all the best to you guys.

Google
Grabbed breakfast at The Friendly Toast with some friends and had the Hash Quiche. The food was solid, good portion size, and flavorful. We were seated quickly, and the staff was helpful without being overbearing. Chill atmosphere, great spot for a casual morning meal. Would recommend.

This place is busy. And I found out, for a damn good reason. It's delicious. It was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad he mentioned it. It was a 17 minute walk from the hotel, so not super convenient but didn't mind the walk. The meal made up for it. There was a wait, but they have a downstairs bar area where I sat down and was greeted by Nicole. She wasn't from the south but she reminded me of someone from the south. Called me sweetie, darling, etc. Very endearing. She recommended the tater tots and the meat omelette. Can't remember the name of it but it's the meat lovers one. The tots came out pretty cold and they were comped. Which I'm grateful for. But I can't imagine how they were hot because lukewarm they were amazing. The pickled onions, the sauce they were in. All of it was amazing. The omelette was good but not anything to go crazy over. With exception of the maple sausage. Was good. The marble rye? Made in house? Stupid good. I would come back if I was in town. You should too, if you're nearby.

Google
The best breakfast, brunch spot in Boston! The food is so tasty and their coffee is delicious. I got the chorizo eggs benedict and so good! I'm so glad I stopped by here. Definitely recommend getting there early so you can get a table, it gets really crowded.

Google
2nd visit from out of towners. The food is delicious but I think my favorite thing is the retro menu giving “Saved by the Bell” vibes. Mimosa flight & French toast was just as tasty the second time around. Outdoor seating on a beautiful day is highly recommended. Definitely on the list for our next trip to Bean Town.

Google
Delicious food and great atmosphere! There is even a park across the street if you need to wait to be seated. I’d recommend getting on a list early because it’s a popular place!

Google
Amazing breakfast!! The french toast was so good! Our server was really nice. The vibes and decor were really cool to see for something nostalgic and different. We forgot to make a reservation but were able to join the online waitlist before walking over and only had to wait about 5 min upon arriving on a Friday morning at 9 until we were seated.

Carly Pisarri

Google
Cute spot. The building and outdoor space is so charming. We sat downstairs at the bar and the waitress behind the bar was hustling so impressively. Manning all the tables and the bar and beverages. The food was a bit heavy and our meals weren’t hot but all in all it was good. Pro tip: put your names on the waitlist ahead of time!

Yelp
Would go back. Food was tasty. Staff was super nice, love the kitschy atmosphere. Plenty of gluten free options for the fam.

JoVonna C.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks! Our server Meghan was awesome. We had a mimosa flight and a boozy coffee flight with a couple drinks between. The hash quiche was delicious and the tot appetizer .

Chuck D.

Yelp
Great decor! Amazing food! Friendly service too!! Have to try the French toast Will defdefinitely be going back

Yelp
Thank goodness for the YELP WAITLIST. I placed us on the list way before we got there. We were able to do errands and such prior to arriving. We got notification to check in and we were seated right away. The lack of waiting definitely helped us enjoy. My bff loves toast and she was able to enjoy both. I ordered their chicken and waffles and man did I clean up the plate. As for usual, we had breakfast dessert without shared pancake plate. Definitely enjoyed our items.

Yelp
Don't normally leave reviews like this ... But, We are on a trip from California, came here because of the reviews on yelp. We ordered and given a choice on outside or indoor seating, we chose outside. Few minutes later the sun started beaming on us, we asked the two employees at the host stand if we could move inside. There was one male with curly brown hair and a female with blonde hair. When we asked if it was okay if we move, the blonde girl rolled her eyes, turned her head and made a face to the other employee. The male was the sweetest person alive. He told us, that the inside was full, so he brought us an umbrella to our outside table. If you wanna come here for food. Hands down IT WAS AMAZING. The condescending waitress, not so much. Once it was time for the bill, the blonde girl comes over to the table and says "Guess what I have!" And drops the bill on the table. She decides to try to make conversation with us. Honestly, I only think she did this because her tip was coming, the whole time we were there she didn't say two words to us other than getting our order. I wish we could take our $5 tip back.

Yelp
The Friendly Toast is hands down my favorite breakfast spot in Boston! Every time I visit the city, I can't resist stopping by. The service truly lives up to their name--everyone is so warm and welcoming. Their breakfast menu is a dream, with fresh ingredients and speedy service that always impresses. We had the boozy coffee flight, and it was such a blast to share; the flavors were incredible! I can't wait for my next visit! Also, the tiny bottle of maple syrup is the cutest thing ever.

Yelp
This was a nice find for our first breakfast in Boston's Back Bay. Good job, Jamie W. We weren't deliberately looking for a healthy spot as we know terms like 'tasty' and 'vegan' are not necessarily compatible with each other. However, lobster rolls and clam chowder were inevitable choices in our near future, so why not balance those indulgences with something healthier? The place has a funky vintage vibe, and the menu was robust with appetizing options. Jamie ordered the $17 Sam's Garden Omelette, a three-egger with spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, marinated tomatoes, garlic, and goat cheese. Accompanied by home fries and wheat toast, it was a satisfying veggie selection, especially doused with their hot sauce (photo: https://yelp.to/d6BQdnUeIc). I was downright unrecognizable and had the $17.50 Vegan Scramble, a surprisingly savory tofu scramble with vegan sausage, vegan cheese, mushrooms, broccoli, and marinated tomatoes topped with an avocado cilantro sauce. Mine also came with home fries but with sourdough toast (photo: https://yelp.to/YYiUUiMLJA). The $6 Orange Juice was the ideal capper (photo: https://yelp.to/VW3Ny1ZKt7). FOOD - 4 stars...satisfying flavors in their veggie creations AMBIANCE - 4 stars...heavy on the faux-retro vibe but it worked SERVICE - 4 stars...busy but efficient TOTAL - 4 stars...tasty + vegan RELATED - Exploring Boston? Yelp
Don't expect to be sat quickly, but don't let the wait time stop you from trying this place. I'm not usually one for breakfast foods but I can't say enough good things about their eggs Benedict -- incredible hollandaise sauce and perfectly cooked egg. The Pickle Bloody was delicious but definitely more on the spicy side. Both the flights we had tasted as good as they looked!

Jessica L.

Yelp
Found this place highly recommended by facebook boston locals. However, I don't understand what all the rave is about. Maybe I ordered the wrong items? The french toast was disappointing; the texture was dense and was served cold. I also had the chorizo benny and that was better. The english muffin was soggy but it was pretty good actually--- flavor wise. I enjoyed their turmeric hot sauce which paired well with the potatoes.

Gabriella W.

Yelp
What a cool spot! I stopped by for a quick brunch while in town for a work conference and was mesmerized by the eclectic decor and large variety of menu options. This is a popular spot so I highly recommend using the Yelp Waitlist when you are on your way. We walked in and ended up waiting 15 minutes for our table. It was very worth the wait! The staff is super friendly and welcoming, I am sure that's influenced by the name. This is a Pepsi establishment, as is most of Boston, to my disappointment. I really enjoyed my french toast and sharing a plate of breakfast egg rolls with my dining companion. The perfect sweet and savory combination!

Yelp
Customer service here is amazing. Our server was great and had so many tables that morning, he was hustling. We ordered the espresso flight to start out with and I wasn't a big fan of all 4. But the two I had were delicious. Gave me and my friend a great buzz. We decided to share the monster breakfast, very simple American breakfast dish. I loved the location of this restaurant. It's a great restaurant for a big group, small group, first date all of the above. Enjoyed my time here.

Anirudh G.

Yelp
Went for a weekend brunch. Cute spot. Ambiance outside was lovely but a little crowded. Food was a bit lackluster. Potatoes were over seasoned. Pancake however was quite good (unique sour cream base?) in a fluffy sort of way and would come back for that.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
WOW! I absolutely loved entering this establishment, it's an adorable, cozy, quirky, retro vibe that you can't help but love being in. I started with their autumn specialty menu's coffee mocktail - spiked pumpkin cold brew & split the monster breakfast with my bf! Everything was delightfully tasty, but the shining star for sure was the french toast!!! you must try their french toast, it is quite possibly the best I have ever had! The only way this could be better is if our eggs/bacon/potatoes would have been hotter. Our server was kind & helpful as this was our first visit. Highly recommend, 5 stars all the way!

Sammy B.

Yelp
This place was awesome! The food selection made it very difficult to choose. The waiter recommended chicken & waffles, and thats what I went with. Did not disappoint.

Jeff H.

Yelp
Service 5/5 (friendly and fast) Ambience 5/5 Chicken and Waffles poor (2/5, insipid and dry, $3 additional for syrup, see photo) Scramble 5/5

Cam A.

Yelp
The food here was solid , would I come back ? Yes Was it the best breakfast I've ever had? No But it tasted good , appreciated the plethora of vegan options . Our sever was so sweet and upbeat and willing to explain everything and give us extra time because the menu is pretty large . The place looks like a diner met a dive bar, it's cool and eccentric.

Lynn M.

Yelp
This was pretty good. Was it worth the wait. I would say no. We got the following items. Rice rice baby: this was a chicken & rice bowl. I liked the house sauce but would get something else next times. Oreo pancakes: this was sweet my friends really enjoyed this Strawberry French toast: this was okay. Kind of dry Egg rolls: this was okay

Kat Z.

Yelp
After reserving ahead of time, a 15 minute wait at the door, and a praise from a local friend, I was excited to finally sit and eat. Despite a dazzling menu, I left feeling somewhat disappointed. Bland flavors, sloppily cut fruit, and a buzzing fly despite indoor seating killed the mood. Overall, nothing to write home about.

Caitlin D.

Yelp
This is a cute place and perfect fit brunch! Great menu options with daily specials. A fun option of adult "brunch" beverages. The side salad was really good too!

Rebecca D.

Yelp
The wait was very long, but the food and service were great. I got the monster breakfast and a flight of mimosas. Highly recommend!

Lauren S.

Yelp
Delicious turkey sandwich with fries. It was about an hour wait with a big group on a Friday morning but we all enjoyed our time. The espresso martinis were a bit watered down unfortunately

Frank C.

Yelp
Best breakfast place in Boston. Even spoke to the mailman who agreed with that statement. Parking is street parking so you're on your own.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for brunch today and had an interesting experience and I'm honestly unsure of how to rate them. We opted to sit outside, since it was a beautiful day and the tables had umbrellas, so we knew we'd be comfortable. My husband is fully blind, so I was reading him the menu when a gust of wind came and picked the umbrella up out of the middle of the table where it went into the air, and then landed onto my husbands arm cutting and brushing him. The general manager came over and asked if we were okay, and we asked for some ice. Nothing else was done or said about this incident except for filling out an accident form. We weren't expecting anything, but no real apology or offer just baffled us both and is why I'm iffy on what to rate this restaurant. Our server was very nice and on top of everything we needed. The service was excellent. The food was pretty good. The vegan sausages were some of the best I've ever had, but the vegan pancakes were a bit dry. My husband enjoyed his food. At this time, I'm hesitant if we'll be back or not. If so, I'd sit inside unless they find a way to lock their umbrellas in, because that is just not safe.

Yelp
This place was a fun surprise for a morning meal. Imagine a cartoon diner come to life, with a soundtrack bumping classic 90-00s tunes from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and Third Eye Blind. While the seating might not be ideal for a large party (think booths built for four), it's perfect for a close-knit brunch crew. Plus, the bar service is fantastic! Be sure to get your name on the waitlist before you head over. There is a fun selection of brunch drinks, including four different coffee-infused concoctions and a few creative Bloody Marys. The Chicken & Waffles seemed like the obvious go-to for my entree. It gets major points for originality and the sweet syrup, savory chicken, and spicy sauce created a unique flavor profile. However, the execution wasn't quite there. The chicken itself was a thin, dry cut that seemed previously frozen and reheated to a lukewarm temperature. Overall, I thought this place was awesome and would definitely come back to try other things on the menu.

Yelp
Here's my review of The Friendly Toast in Stanhope St, Boston, MA: _4/5 Stars_ The Friendly Toast is a popular spot for breakfast and brunch in Boston's Fenway neighborhood. Here's my honest review: _Food:_ - Creative and delicious menu options, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices. - Standouts include the Stuffed French Toast, Banana Foster Pancakes, and Breakfast Burrito. - Some dishes can be overly sweet, so be mindful of that if you're not a fan. _Service:_ - Friendly and attentive servers, but can be slow during peak hours. - Be prepared for a wait, especially on weekends. _Atmosphere:_ - Fun, eclectic decor with a retro vibe. - Cozy and intimate setting, but can feel cramped when busy. _Value:_ - Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. - $15-$20 per entree is a fair range. _Overall:_ The Friendly Toast is a great spot for a tasty and Instagram-worthy breakfast or brunch. While service can be slow, the food and atmosphere make up for it. Be prepared for a wait, and don't be afraid to try something new! Recommendations: - Arrive early or be prepared for a wait. - Try the Stuffed French Toast or Banana Foster Pancakes. - Don't miss their creative cocktails and coffee drinks. Note: This review is based on a single visit

Yelp
I liked The Friendly Toast! I would give it a 4.5/5 (plus a bonus for their service, which was fantastic) The staff were extremely friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. We dined in on a sunny day, so we got to sit outside and the ambiance was great. We ordered both types of avocado toast, the Monster Breakfast (with french toast), and the Hash Quiche. Each item tasted great, and the portions were fair, though I wish they were a bit bigger. I loved the variety of options in the menu, and I would definitely come back to try more!

Audrey C.

Yelp
Combine a few over-the-top flavors with conventional breakfast food and add a staff that's having fun with it and you'll have the friendly toast Inventive breakfast foods very tasty not to mention very entertaining decor On the weekend make sure you put your name in way early or get a reservation this busy

Sarah F.

Yelp
DEF COME! Food is phenomenal. Pancakes ARE gargantuan as promised (I ate maybe 1.5 then had to call it quits). Atmosphere is so cute and retro. Menu is extensive and food came out quickly. Also, best service ever! Our waitress was named Sam and omg one of the best waitresses I've ever had. Soooo sweet and attentive and thoughtful. Ask for her if you can!

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Nice food and friendly service Food: tomato soup was amazing. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit and avocado toast as well. Egg rolls come with four pieces and they were crunchy. The nacho was soaked in Mexican style seasoning/sauce and pickled onions were refreshing, tied well with the chips. It was quite interesting how the chips were still crunchy while we'll seasoned Service: staffs were friendly and nice :) Overall great experience but if you are not a huge fan of Southern American/American soul food type of cuisine, won't be the best spot

Danielle M.

Yelp
This restaurant was / is very trendy. You cannot make reservations in advance even though you can checkin, in advance..I know confusing! When we got there the line was out the door! We decided to go to Anthropologie which was up the street since our wait was about 30-45mins. They texted us when our table arrived but we got back to the restaurant about 10mins after that so they gave our table away. To be fair, they tell you that in advance I think it's only a 5min grace period they give you. So we honestly could not be upset so we waited until something opened up. Now I did not try the food while we were here we only came for drinks so we got the mimosa and coffee flights. The coffee flight does have alcohol in it but I will tell you now don't order it! They are all gross!!! Like seriously so nasty I don't know why they have this as a menu option. Now the mimosa flight is 10/10! They were so good and I wish I would have ordered another round of these instead of the coffee flight. The vibe of the restaurant was cool like a quirky diner. The food look amazing so I can't wait to come back and try it.

Amy M.

Yelp
My Husband and I don't get to Boston nearly enough, but when we do The Friendly Toast is a must stop! First... ASK FOR JOE! He is a stellar server. Attentive, funny, helpful. Food is always fresh and delicious. We ordered the avocado toast and Cubano benny. Both were bomb! And Joe didn't judge when we ordered the old fashioned special with our breakfast lol

Victoria K.

Yelp
No wait for a random Tuesday at 1pm, but I appreciate that you can add your name to the waitlist on Yelp in advance-- I can see how that would be super nifty and helpful for people coming in on the weekends when it's busy. I ordered the monster breakfast, which came with eggs, potatoes, choice meat, and pancakes or french toast. I opted for the pancakes and asked if they could give me the blueberry ones. This plate of food was really yummy, but honestly somewhat underwhelming in terms of size considering it's called the MONSTER breakfast, and it was $20. I don't know, I think I was just expecting something more. The pancake were good, but did have a bit of a box-pancake taste. I doubt they actually are from a box-- not accusing them of that-- I just think it TASTES like it's from a box. Overall, though, it was delicious and was the solution to my struggle of whether I should get a savory food or a sweet food for brunch.

Veronique C.

Yelp
dont waste your time; not sure how the reviews are so high. Started my breakfast with possibly the worse drip coffee I have ever had. Ordered french toast. They looked good, but were unfortunately dry. Side of " crispy " bacon was as hard as a rock. Overall exhausting ambiance because of the noise level from the highway outside. Just not a good experience all around, except for the lovely server. Great attitude, friendly, sweet.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place! We had breakfast and it was so good. The staff live up to the name, they're definitely friendly. We loved the retro vibe and atmosphere. Will eat here again if we ever return to Boston.

Danielle M.

Yelp
Great service and food but LONG wait time. We entered the queue on yelp and the actual wait was 30+ mins longer than the estimated time. I had the strawberry habanero jam on my toast which was truly the highlight of the meal. Hash quiche was great but a little overdone on the hash

Kenneth T.

Yelp
Had a reservation and showed up 10 min early yet saw people without reservations getting seated before us. We asked about being seated outside but the hostess gave us excuses about why we had to sit inside. It didn't make sense to us because there were seats outside for 2 people but we were put at a table that could fit 4 people. The plates were all plastic. The food was all cold. We found half of an egg shell in the eggs Benedict.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say about this Friendly Toast location! The food was great, our server and all other staff were kind and helpful, and the retro decor inside is so unique and special. Even the menus are so cool! :P Prices were reasonable for large portions, and the vast menu ensured there was something for everyone in our group. We appreciated the patio seating for the nice weather, and that we could bring our dog!

Ha B.

Yelp
Cute place with some character. We tried the omelette (the one with long name lol) and the "you bowl me over"--both yummy. But the best one was probably the French toast...so buttery and fat. Not good for your physical health but yummy for the soul.

Jill P.

Yelp
Definitely the spot to go if you are wanting a hearty breakfast and great service. We went on a Saturday. You will want to get on the waitlist ahead of time. It worked out great, not long of a wait once we checked in. ***Ask for Joe...he's the BEST. Friendly, engaging, and will give you all the Boston feels with that accent We had some special orders and he nailed it. *** Come see us in VA, Joe! Charlie, Jill, Nic & Isabella

Ngan N.

Yelp
Had high hope for The Friendly Toast because of the high rating but we were disappointed and felt it was a waste of money. They were ~$20/plate, we waited a while for our food and they were cold and not fresh at all. With how much they charge, we'd expect something fresh. - Egg Benedict - Chicken Cordon Bleu Benny: $19. Has good flavor, enough amount of Hollandaise sauce and not greasy. However, except the poached egg, everything was cold and felt like it's been sitting there for a while - Chicken & Waffle: $21. Great flavor but everything was cold when we got it. Asked for a replacement. The new plate had hot fried chicken but the waffles were cold and stale. Service was good and food has great taste. It's a shame they can't make it fresh.

Tianna F.

Yelp
We were looking for breakfast places in the area and we stumbled upon this one. The wait to enter the restaurant was crazy long, but after being there I see why. We reserved our table on Yelp and It was a smooth process. The ambiance is chill and funky, with all different types of decorations on the wall. It's not until we were leaving that I realized that they have a basement section as well, where you can dine but also grab a drink at the bar. The service is superb! Our server was "Megan" and she was very joyful and pleasant. She gave good recommendations and when the food/drinks came out, she made sure to go over everything we ordered. She is very thorough - 5 stars! Now as far as the food, we all tried different things, but we started off with the appetizer sampler and I'm so glad that we did because the Breakfast Eggrolls were BANGING! We also got the flight of Mimosas and each flavor was pretty tasty. So I had the "Snap, Crackle & Pop" sandwich, which was a fried chicken breast covered in Rice Krispy's, on a sesame bun w/ a garlic aioli, coleslaw and pickles (I got the pickles on the side though) served w/ a side of waffle fries. My friend got their burger (which I believe is all cooke one temp). My brother got the Bulgogi Fried Rice Bowl (this would be great hangover food) and his girl got the Eggs Benedict. All of our dishes were amazing, 10 out of 10! I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant' the next time I'm in Boston.

Se S.

Yelp
We love the friendly toast! We've been to several locations and each one never disappoints! First of all love the ability to add to the waitlist via Yelp saved so much time. We added our names then drove to the restaurant. By the time we parked, got there we were number 10 on the waitlist started at 23. We waited 12 more minutes and got our table. Service is always amazing so fun, friendly and fast love the selections. I always try to get the star menu ones bc they're new. My son loves this place so much we got a shirt for him. Highly recommend

Xit L.

Yelp
The decor was super cute and the vibe was cool. Our sever was very friendly and made sure we were taken care of! I ordered the chicken n waffles. The chicken was crispy but a different kind of thick crispy. Not my favorite but it was okay. The waffle was also okay, I only prefer syrup so the extras were off. My friend's order tasted like crispy churros.

Daniel J.

Yelp
Excellent food and nice outdoor seating despite the hassle of the long wait. The egg dishes were the way to go unless you like the crazily sweet stuff.

Aaron A.

Yelp
I got the chorizo Benny which was pretty good! I would suggest adding yourself to the waitlist if you are looking to not wait long. It was busy when I dined here but our server was friendly and attentive. The interior is very retro which I thought was cute.

Louvenia H.

Yelp
The food at the Friendly Toast is really good. It was well worth the 30 minute wait. The servers were very hospitable. Thanks

PAtricia L.

Yelp
Best brunch spot for a crowd. Get on the waiting list before You get there. It kind of has a 70/ cool Themed environment - Menu is diverse but everything we have tried (gone over 5 Times ) has been great. Cocktails (brunch after all) fun, delicious and diverse, coffee decent

Mark B.

Yelp
Always find my way to FriendlybToast in Boston and Cambridge! Great choices in a fun atmosphere!
