What a fun restaurant! My girlfriends and I spent a week in Boston including a day in Cambridge. The Friendly Toast was my favorite place we ate at all week! The atmosphere is beyond fun. The service was spot on. The food was delicious and plentiful. I will go back any and every time I am in the area. To The Friendly Toast: don’t change anything: you’re perfect just the way you are!

Google
Delicious brunch spot with multiple locations! I've been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Their homemade sourdough is a must-try. Everything is incredibly fresh too. The only downside is that there is always a decently long wait on the weekends (but you can join an online waitlist to cut that down!).

Google
What an awesome brunch/lunch spot right off of Harvard Square! Great location, great ambience, fantastic service and incredible food. Very friendly and welcoming service from Matt too. Would highly recommend the Gochujang fried chicken sandwich 10/10.

Had read the amazing reviews about “ The friendly toast” but was initially hesitant due to the long line to get in. After having brunch here, I can attest that this restaurant is 100% worth the wait! Food/drinks:Started off the meal with the delicious pumpkin cold brew ( great addition to the meal) and chose to split the strawberry french toast and the bacon and egg quiche with a friend. The French toast were to die for! The quiche was also amazing, and the bread bowl it came in was baked to perfection! Service: we were seated at the bar and our server was attentive and efficient! Ambiance: the diner has a quaint and rather colorful look. I enjoyed looking at all the odd decorations on the wall while I was eating, and the rainbow of colors in the restaurant was what made me choose it initially!! Overall, great experience and would definitely come again.

Google
Eclectic unique eating experience in Harvard Square… Highly recommend and came highly recommended!! Can eat indoor or outdoor. Son who had the chicken waffles said they were the best he had ever had! Loved the salmon avocado toast- had on Sourdough instead of bagel. Only recommendation is that they have half portions especially with their Beni’s!!

Google
Our second visit to a Friendly Toast and first at this location. There was no wait and the food was better than the time we visited the Stanhope St. location. Our server was super nice too. The pancakes are still to-die-for, the French toast is excellent and the Pickle Mary is still my favorite Bloody Mary. Highly recommend it!

Google
This retro breakfast joint offers a great variety of breakfast and brunch items that are all delicious. The staff is attentive and friendly as well.

Google
Really enjoyed our lunch here, nice mocktails to accompany our meal. I enjoyed my pastrami sandwich. The decor was interesting and quirky.

Yelp
The food, selection, and service are fantastic. It's a great place to bring out of town guests, but definitely plan ahead and make a reservation for this popular place.

Yelp
One of the best breakfasts I've had, great memorabilia and the service sure lives up to its name. Went here for a visit to campus with my daughter and were looking for a memorable place for a special visit. The Friendly Toast sure delivered. Tasty offerings, cute names on the menu good for a little chuckle, and the most incredible service. This experience wrapped up our campus trip with a nice bow! Highly recommend!

Yelp
As we went late in the afternoon we didn't have to wait and directly got a seat without reservation which is rare. We ordered coconut caramel coffee and spicy mocha horchata as drinks and both were divine. For food, I ordered chicken waffle and waffle fries and both were outstanding. Chicken waffle had that sweet and tangy taste and would highly recommend that. Waffle fries were crisp and fresh as well. My partner ordered huevos rancheros and she liked it as well. The only negative part was the service where the server forgot our drinks and we had to remind them but otherwise the quality of the food and the ambience was top notch.

Yelp
The Friendly Toast is such an eclectic place for many fun brunch options! The brunch is delicious and unique, and they also offer substations for vegetarians and vegans. I got the hash quiche and subbed out bacon for veggie sausage. However they do charge you a pretty unfair amount for doing so. The drinks are pretty fun as well, although they took away their margarita flight which was a favorite. The espresso flight I would not order again, it was a bit too rich for a flight.

Yelp
Good service and cute vibes. We had the chorizo benedict and the oreo pancakes, and they were delicious. The quiche, coffee, and the breakfast cocktails were lackluster. It's not even a real quiche, it was pie crust with scrambled eggs in it.
google avatar

Lily K.

Yelp
The cutest brunch spot! The food was 10/10 and the restaurant itself is such a fun environment. The hash brown quiche and breakfast egg rolls were absolutely amazing

Yelp
We stopped here before a Harvard tour, we decided to stop for breakfast. We decided on the friendly toast, what a fun place! The decor is awesome, it's a combination many fun knick knacks. The staff is very friendly, and not overbearing which is always key. I had delicious eggs Benedict, and coffee with an OJ. I actually came back in the afternoon after I was on my own, I had noticed a Bloody Mary flight so I was curious, they were all delicious with unique flavors! Loved my experience and hope I have the chance to go back again

Yelp
Food here was amazing. Thoroughly loved the huevos rancheros, especially with the house made hot sauce! My friend got the eggs, sausage and GF toast. Service was exceptional. Worked with my friend to ensure her food was both GF and DF. Ambience was super cute, diner type vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
I like the food here. Ordered the avocado toast with poached egg on the top. Was tasty. The service was great! The server came check on us often. Had a great time with friendly here on a Sunday morning.

Yelp
The service was ok, our waitress didn't really understand us so we had a few order issues. The service is very fast which was a plus. Encause we was hungry. After adding a little salt and pepper to the food everything was spruced up.
google avatar

Cindy F.

Yelp
Food was alright - I got the egg sandwich and it was a bit too sweet / seemed under salted. However it was fun diner vibes and we got seated in a timely manner after adding ourselves to the waitlist online.

Yelp
A lil wait but totally worth it! Their menu is extensive, very creative and caters to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Their drinks with booze are awesome. The chai latte drink is SO good

L L.

Yelp
The service was horrible. We placed our order and waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive cold. Other diners who were seated after us got their food within 5 minutes of ordering. There was no one to talk to as we waited for our server to bring us our food. It was clear that our server just disappeared for 45 minutes, and our food sat for that time. Our orders were simple, eggs, corned beef hash, and French toast, so there was no reason for any delay. The foid was mediocre. The decorations are kitschy and intentionally retro/yard sale style. I wouldn't retire here based on this experience.

Yelp
I have fond memories of getting a smoked salmon eggs benedict at former Friendly Toast location in Kendall Square, so I've been meaning to try the Harvard location for a while. The interior is decorated very on-theme, with bright colors and diner-style furniture. The menu is pretty big with detailed descriptions and covers all of the breakfast/brunch bases. I tried the hash quiche, which was a bit heavy for me. It was mostly deep fried hash browns (which were heavy and not particularly good), and the amount of egg was pretty minimal. It's an interesting concept, but I think more eggs and fewer hash browns would've made for a better dish. We did get a cayenne cheddar toast slice on the side, which I really liked. I also tried the chicken cordon bleu benny. This was again quite rich, and the smoked ham was quite salty. I think it would've been good to have a side that is more light -- perhaps a salad? I also tried a bit of the waffle, which was pretty good but nothing special. Overall I think there are things here that I would enjoy more than what we got. It's a nice place to grab brunch with friends, but I wouldn't choose it over other places for now.

Yelp
Fantastic new addition to Harvard Square! Service was top notch. They sure are friendly here! I'd recommend putting your name on the virtual waitlist in advance through Yelp. It was about a 45 min wait for Saturday brunch at noontime. The decor is really eclectic and interesting, like diner meets yard sale. The food is on the heavy side, but oh so delicious. The hash quiche was a combo of creamy eggs atop crunchy hash browns. It came with a perfectly buttered piece of toast (the sourdough was phenomenal, and I don't even normally like sourdough) and some fresh fruit. The chicken and waffles was another flavor bomb of crispy, savory fried chicken and sweet, smoky waffles. The hot honey and other fixings helped complete the dish. There were so many other tasty items on the menu, it was hard to pick just one! I do wish there were more non-alcoholic drinks options. While the mimosa flight and spiked coffee beverages look outta this world, I was really craving an iced mocha or latte to enjoy with brunch. They had cold brew and various juices (I think only canned ones). All and all, I look forward to frequenting the Friendly Toast! The ideal spot for a boozy brunch.

Yelp
I've been to a few Friendly Toast locations and have always had a good experience! The Harvard Square location is super spacious and colorful. They always have fun seasonal drinks and a big brunch menu. I recommend the monster plate! Their pancakes are delicious.

Yelp
Had brunch here today. The service was great. Food was decent and I'd go back. I had the chicken and waffles and it was a unique take on a simple dish. I don't know that I'd get it again, but I didn't hate it either.

Yelp
I came here with my sister for lunch on a Friday around noon. We were able to join the waitlist ahead on Yelp, which was really convenient and our table was available about 25 minutes after joining the waitlist. Our waitress Kristen was so sweet and took great care of us even though they were understaffed that day. I love that they have solid vegan brunch options here. I ordered the vegan scramble, which comes with home fries and toast. Our waitress said the only vegan toast was the gluten free one, so that's the one I got. The gluten free bread was honestly pretty awful, but I appreciate that they had the option nevertheless. The vegan scramble on the other hand was INCREDIBLE- the vegan sausage and cheese were surprisingly good, and there was a nice bit of veggies in there as well. My sister ordered the granny's panini off the seasonal menu, which she greatly enjoyed. Both of us had requested modifications to our orders (sauce on the side/no pickles) which were not implemented, but our waitress was so kind to us that it didn't even bother us. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
My wife and I took my daughter and her friend here for brunch today. When we arrived we were confronted with the prospect of a very long wait for a table. My daughter insisted the restaurant was worth the wait so I agreed. After a longer than advertised wait, we were finally seated. Once inside, we were met with an extremely friendly and efficient waitstaff. Despite the fact that the place was mobbed, the food was delivered very quickly and most importantly, it was really good!! The specialty drinks were also fantastic and the bill was reasonable for the experience. I now know why there is a huge wait to get into this place. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Visited the Cambridge branch in Harvard square. It's as busy as the main original restaurant on weekends. Beautiful and lively interiors. Prompt and friendly interiors. Food was delicious! We ordered a huevos rancheros, chicken and waffles, waffle fries, coconut caramel coffee, and spiced mocha habanero. All the dishes were well made and beautifully presented. This place is totally worth the hype. Recommend!

Yelp
Service: The service is incredible, when you go in, staff will greet you with smiles. Food: Food is amazing too, we ordered the cordon bleu benny and it's perfect for two people. Their lemonade mango flavor is very refreshing too. Ambiance: A+mazing. This is very good way to start your day. Overall, AMAZING AMAZING experience. 10/10

Yelp
Excited that the Harvard sq location was finally open after frequenting the Kendall location for years before it closed. Unfortunately, our experience was just so-so. We got in-line on the waitlist and waited an additional ~30 minutes after checking in. After being seated, we ordered a Bloody Mary flight to split and I ordered the hash quiche without bacon (they used to have the option for vegetarian bacon before, but did not have it her). When our flight arrived, we realized they ran out of bacon for one of the drinks, but the waitress didn't inform us of this until we asked. The pickle blood Mary was also a bit watered down. For food, my hash quiche was good but was missing cheese, which I was disappointed by.

Yelp
Fun, unique, and adventurous food especially for those that like taking pictures of their food. I had an amazing espresso martini with two different types of avocado toast. Both were yummy. This is a great spot to take friends for brunch because there are a lot of options.

Yelp
Love coming to The Friendly Toast because they have such an eclectic and expansive menu. You'll definitely be able to find something fun and delicious to try. Their waitlisting method is easy and you can join ahead of time so when you arrive your table is ready.

Yelp
You will not die happy if you don't try this breakfast place. Everything in this place is absolutely impeccable. Stomach gurglingly delicious. Salivatingly spectacular. We got the mimosa and coffee flight and the Cookie Monster pancakes and the grilled cheese with the Tuscan tomato soup and licked out plates and sucked our cups clean. Holy shit you have to go here

Yelp
A small store front hides a really large restaurant, only open since the beginning of August 2023. Aggressively cheerful decor.
google avatar

Miranda G.

Yelp
Good place to get American brunch. The portions are large and this locations recently opened up. The chicken sandwich was quite large but the chicken itself was a bit dry for my taste. We also ordered the sampler for appetizers which was nice to share and try everything.

Yelp
OMG...if you want start your day off right, a visit to Friendly Toast NEEDS to be your first stop. When you arrive, beg, plead...do whatever it takes to get Sam as your server. Her energy is infectious...no matter the mood you're in, you'll leave smiling. Speaking of smiling, your tummy will be smiling. The menu is so unique, there are so many choices, and you'll be wishing you could order everything! The ambience is one of happiness. The decor is fun and filled with childhood reminders (70's, 80's, 90's). It's a fun place and all the staff were expertly selected...it feels like the kind of crazy fun family you want to be a part of. I can't say enough good things about Friendly Toast; great food, great people!!!

Yelp
I ordered the Chorizo Benny, which was very tasty! I think it was supposed to come with french fries, but mine came with roasted potatoes instead? it was delicious and I think I preferred the roasted potatoes anyway. Under the eggs, there was an avocado spread and the bed of chorizo. English muffin was pretty easy to cut through as well. Would definitely come again! it's a very cute restaurant, i love the quirky decor!! would 100% buy a plush of the little toast icons 4 stars because I signed up on yelp waitlist and got seated very quickly, but it actually took quite a while for the food to come. After we got our check, it also took a while for the server to come back and close us out.

Yelp
The food is fun and delicious and the service is always fantastic! Great location too.
google avatar

Tom T.

Yelp
It's nice in here but the wait was like 90 minutes with goes against my religion. DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!
google avatar

Vincent T.

Yelp
Service was good, waffle fries were too salty, bulgogi sandwich was sparse at first glance but it filled me up for lunch. Peet's iced coffee was cheaper but kinda nasty. I was aiming for quantity over quality but I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. I would try the other stuff they have I came alone and was seated fine. I was tempted to get the same exact eggs Benedict order the other yelper reviewed cuz I like eggs benny but this was a fine choice. The decor was pretty cool but I recommend coming here on a weekday assuming it's crowded on the weekends.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 5+ stars! What a pleasant experience we had visiting for brunch today. Besides what stood out beyond their extensive creative brunch items and trendy interior, was their service. I want to thank our waiter, Chester, and manager, Ryan for such a pleasant experience. Chester was so patient, friendly, and helpful with all our questions and made our meal experience beyond enjoyable. I hope you get to meet him when you visit, he is an amazing waiter! After all our tempting recommendations, we opted for the huevos rancheros and build your own omelette. They were both SO good! I put smoked salmon, feta cheese, mushroom and caramalized onions onto my omelette and it was SO good. I love that you get to personalize what you want on your omelette. Chester also introduced us to the manager, Ryan, and he was so friendly and personable! I truly appreciated both of their attention and welcome to my daughter and I. Overall, I am so sad to be leaving Boston but will definitely visit here every time I visit. Their menu is SO extensive and creative, I figure I have a lifetime to taste them all.

Yelp
The service was not great. The food was very mid too. I got the breakfast burrito and strawberry French toast which was not amazing but not quite bad. The potatoes felt soft but not crunchy. The vibes and decor were cute through. I'm not sure I would come back.

Yelp
Came here with friends after joining the Yelp Waitlist about an hour before we wanted to eat. By the time we were all together, it was time to get seated. We ordered pretty quickly, and everything we ordered was amazing. I got a Dreamsicle beverage, and it was perfectly sweet, creamy, and contained the right amount of alcohol for me. It was delicious. For my food, I ordered 1 chocolate chip pancake with oreo butter and two eggs. I wanted to make sure I was full before my flight back to NY, but not so full that all I would want was a nap. My husband ordered a breakfast burrito and mango lemonade and enjoyed both of his items, too. I will also say, this place was HOPPING on Sunday morning! Everyone was friendly and kind, and the vibe is definitely hip. Overall, it was a great place with great company. When visiting Boston, I'd probably come back and visit again.

Jake A.

Yelp
My friend and I love to eat at diners whenever we travel together, and the reviews online seemed to be amazing about this place. My friend has to eat gluten free, and they offered a ton of great options for her. It was a Sunday and there was over an hour and a half wait but that wasn't bad due to being able to place our name on a waitlist online. I ordered the brunch burger, which was sloppy and fell apart as I ate it. The flavor was okay but nothing to rave about. My friend ordered a gluten free pancake with chocolate chips and an omelette with spinach, mushrooms, and onions. Nothing was mixed in, the items were just placed inside with the egg folded over. Her toast was also cold and barely toasted. Our waiter was nice but we never saw him. He took our order, popped over once after we had our food (which was brought out at intermittent times, not all at once), and when he brought us the bill. We had to chase him down to pay our bill before we could leave. It seems this place is very touristy friendly but not worth any of the hype. There are much better and cheaper places to eat at in Boston. We won't be returning to this one.

B F.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants a nice brunch - this really is a place for parents and their young kids. Food is mediocre, surly service and feels like a Chili's on the inside.
google avatar

Tarana B.

Yelp
Cute restaurant, the service was excellent. The food came quickly and was delicious. The price was good. I highly recommend this place if you live or are visiting Boston.
google avatar

CC C.

Yelp
Fun place. Good food, great service and thank goodness for the Yelp waitlist! We waited less than expected and had a great time.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
Great food, busy and place, but really cool decor and vibe. They have a lot of different drinks you can try as well.

Susan L.

Yelp
I had a cheddar cheese omelette there last week. It tasted like the griddle it was cooked on and was not pleasant. The cheese was absolutely tasteless. I have eaten at other Toasts before and this was well below the standards I have come to expect. Service was fine as was ambiance. But when the food is crummy the other things don't really matter.

Xavier R.

Yelp
very friendly service many healthy options good quality basic fare convenient location close to Harvard Square Quite busy on week-ends ! Good breakfast place during the week too.

Kelly S.

Yelp
Super long wait, very noisy and way overpriced at $98 for breakfast Do not recommend.
google avatar

Callie M.

Yelp
Excellent food, especially the namesake toast. You'll wait a long time to get a seat but the service is great once you're at your table.

Jessica B.

Yelp
We visited the friendly toast for the first time today & we were pleasantly surprised! The food was VERY good & so were the mimosas. We brought our 13 month old & he also loved all of the food. Our server Bailey was so attentive and kind!
google avatar

Brianna L.

Yelp
So happy they came back to Cambridge! The food and the friendly service always keeps me coming back for more. I love the quirky ambiance of each restaurant.
google avatar

Bridgette X.

Yelp
Friendly staff and great food. I like that call ahead service. They were able to accommodate my party of 8 on short notice.
google avatar

Allen H.

Yelp
When I first entered alone I asked for table for one. The hostess was so confused about finding a table in an empty restaurant. I counted 12 people in the whole place. She finally sat me a table that was in level and rocked so I asked to seat at a different table again confusion on the host . When finally being seated at a table that was level I ordered the eggs Benedict was ok but the English muffin was very hard to cut even with the steak knife it came with, makes me think it was stale. The home fries were ok but at room temperature not very hot. I will think twice about going back.

Er R.

Yelp
Great place for brunch in Cambridge. We really enjoy it. The walls are loaded with whimsical prints and the food is solid comfort food. The wait on the weekends is ridiculous, but they try to make it more bearable by allowing you to join their waitlist online, which is pretty helpful.

Chris G.

Yelp
Nothing to write home about. Food was flavorless. I had to ask for sauces to help with the lack of flavor. Service was good.
