The Front - SLC

I’ve basically spent my whole life sitting at a desk studying, so when I first came here, I couldn’t climb at all. Not even a little. But after coming consistently and practicing, I’m finally starting to see some progress. More than anything, the food is surprisingly good. Sometimes I end up staying for over two hours because I’m climbing and hanging out (and eating). I haven’t participated yet, but they seem to host a variety of events and social activities, and I’d love to join one someday.

The people working here were outrageously nice from the minute. I called to ask what amenities they have to me personally being there for almost a whole day. What a great group of people and community this is. This place is three stories tall and offers climbing working out food options and great locker rooms. I did all the above and then ended it with a great sauna. Filled my big water jug out of my van up and hit the road. Thank you for the awesome experience. Maybe one day I’ll bring a PIE.ZAA to Salt Lake City and we can partner up.

Snooty and expensive. A friend and I were just getting into climbing and heard this gym was "the best." When we went in, the staff were cold. It kind of shook our confidence because we didn't know what to do, where to go, or even how to start. They didn't seem to be too willing to bother with us. Once we got into the bouldering area, there was a group of climbers who were making audible comments about us being noobs. We felt like we were in high school being bullied by the supposed cool kids. We got out of there asap. We wasted $37 for our day passes to be bullied out of there. We ended up going to Momentum and eventually got a membership with them. Their prices are quite a bit lower than The Front and you get two free guest passes every month with Momentum's membership. Everyone at Momentum are kind and are really helpful to those who are newer to the sport. We had so many people come up to us to give us help. I've actually climbed alongside of Olympic climbers at Momentum. They welcome climbers of all skill levels. Not only are Momentum's prices better than The Front, they have also created a positive and professional environment for their members. Don't go here, go to Momentum! The Front has added a ton of amenities over the years, and I've made use of just about all of them. Super glad this was the gym we ended up at. Everyone I bring as a guest kind of marvels at how big the gyms are, and everything that they offer. I've also never had an issue (with fitness class reservations) that their employees haven't been able to help with.

I’ve climbed here over 2.5 years. South Main, and The Original Location Downtown (OG). Briefly, the community (very good adaptive program), facilities, various classes, art galleries, cheap coffee, community nights (chess!), hmm music, sauna, now pottery, all the things 👍🏼👍🏼 if I could. I personally really like the auto belays; I find them a valuable tool in a training modality called “ladders”. The rates vary. Be careful, switching from bouldering to them. Or auto belays to standard (different clipping). However; I’m a big fan they invested in the technology despite some very public issues they troubleshooted through. I happened to have met the man, Adam, pretty in charge of that and a lot of safety there. They from my visual impression of watching what he does and communicates seem so dialed and you’d think they’d be with an inherently “risky” technology. Adam is also an awesome chess opponent (partner in some crazy modes?). -Matt

With the cost you would expect better facilities, benefits, and treatment than competing companies. As it stands, you pay 30% more for less climbing styles, less equipment, and employees that would rather the place sound like a library than a gym. I expect better of this place

The front is a great climbing gym to go to. They offer plenty of climbs and have really nice employees. They have areas to work out. Their climbing classes are very good and the employees spend time during these classes to make sure you are ready for their climbing and delaying tests. The front has lead climbing walls, top rope walls and bouldering walls. The front has routes for both beginners and advanced people and anyone in between. All of their climbing classes are also free with purchase of a day pass which is much different then other climbing gyms i have been to. The day price is a little expense at being around 30 a day but the memberships are good to get if you go more than 3-4 times a month. There is also a restaurant and the front with good food.

I am a complete beginner and Kait was so patient explaining everything to me. She took her time answering all my questions and didn't rush me at all. Trey was also kind and friendly. Love the staff already.

I downloaded this app just to leave a review of this place. I went here on a Friday night. Their bar wasn't open because "we only have like three people who work the bar so the hours are random." Then, despite being belay certified for my job. I didn't pass my belay test because I "wasn't vocal enough" with little to no guidance from my person testing me. Terrible experience. Do not recommend.

Been going to the Front for a couple of years now and I really like it. It's a convenient location if you live downtown and they do the occasional fun events and it's a great place to meet like minded people if you live downtown. They offer fitness classes and climbing classes but I mostly come for the climbing. They have a full weights gym with cardio equipment but I personally feel like the monthly fee is a bit high if you just come for that. When I first signed up, I did the punch pass. If you only go once or twice a month, that's a great option. I have enough friends that go that between the punch pass and my friends' guest passes, I had more than enough opportunities to hang out here. I eventually signed up for the annual membership with the explicit goal of taking their classes and getting good enough at climbing that I could do outdoor climbing and switch back to the punch pass. They were offering free classes over the summer so I am well on my way there. There are rumors that the classes might permanently be free. Even when they're not free, they offer enough freebies with the classes that it's well worth taking them, even if you're not a member. Pay attention to their specials, if you're on the fence, I would buy a punch pass and jump on the wagon when they're doing their enrollment specials. Can I do a shout out for their restaurant upstairs? The food is surprisingly good and anytime I get "stuck" eating here, I never regret it. They do a pretty amazing taco special on Tuesdays. The only downside to this being such a great place to meet people and socialize is that this gym can become quite crowded during their peak hours or when they're hosting an event. I recommend that if you're looking for a quiet place to climb, that you come during an off peak time (mornings are great) or go to their South Main location.

Love this climbing gym! From its bouldering to to yoga classes there always something to do here. Love that it's such a fun environment. There are spots to just hangout if you wanted to. They have a good variety of climbing walls that you can do, as well as their second floor has gym equipment if you want to get a workout in. Third floor has classes you can do like yoga. As well as their is a little cafe there that you could grab food and drinks!

Not only can you learn to climb, but the climbers and staff here are so helpful with newbies. I also got some great advice from a fellow climber on how to Get really strong using the auto belay. This was probably my favorite visit yet. I usually go to the mill creek location but I'm sick of the snow and needed the sauna. Bonus points for having a sauna just for women in the locker room.

I brought 3 first-timers with me today. Lora was so awesome with handling orientation. Her instructions were clear and provided a lot of confidence. The autobelays also had lower grades than the location on South Main which is a benefit to me as a little tiny baby novice. We had a great time.

I had high hopes for The Front Climbing Club, but my experience was profoundly disappointing. From the unfriendly staff who barely acknowledged my presence to the overcrowded and poorly managed facility, it was a frustrating visit. The cleanliness was subpar, with dirty bathrooms and climbing mats. Given the exorbitant pricing, unless you are engaging with some their other programs I would recommend another climbing gym.

This place is pretty awesome, very large climbing area. Most of the rope routes were closed due to comp setting. We thought the Bouldering area was small until we walked down the hall and saw a much bigger area, impressive. Routes here are very fun and challenging. Workout area upstairs was useful, got people working on their computers in the lounge area above that with a bar. Great gym, big fan.

First of all yes, climbing gyms are expensive. And the Front is slightly more expensive than Momentum, the other climbing gym in the valley ($89/mo at the front vs $70 at momentum). With that being said, here are the reasons I'm willing to pay slightly more to climb here: 1. The sauna - I'm all about that sauna. I love ending a climbing session with a sauna and the showers are located right there as well. 2. Rumsy's - the cafe upstairs actually has very tasty food and a big beer menu featuring a lot of local, high point brews. They've also got WiFi with charging ports around for doing some work/homework while you rest. 3. Summer/fall music nights - Wednesday nights are fun with live music in the courtyard and $3 pints on tap from the Red Rock beer truck. They cook some dinner that's usually pretty good and cheap. Oftentimes they will have some local vendors selling crafts and such as well. Plus if you ride your bike there on Wednesday evenings you get a free drink token as well. 4. The shop - a convenient place to get all your climbing gear at a comparable price to most climbing stores and you get a 15% rebate for store purchases. 5. Training room - room with many practice boards and grip boards for working on technicals/crack climbing and grip strength. 6. Classes - they offer yoga, spin and jiu-jitsu classes included with your membership (jiu-jitsu only at south main location). They also have a regular gym on the second floor like momentum. Also, they have a punch card for if you ride your bike 9 times then you can get a free smoothie from the cafe. All in all, I decide to pay a little extra for the front bc of the extra amenities but also bc it is just a more comfortable place to hangout at compared to momentum. There's a lot more to do than just climb and it's too easy to spend way too much time there.

Super pricey gym with a bougie cafe and food/drink options. The parking is pretty much impossible though, and the holds are slick and iffy. Not the best gym in the area.

Ronan was really helpful. Great gym with fun routes and lots of auto belays. The women's restroom had a lot of personal higiene products- they really pay attention to detail and cleanliness at this gym. Will be back next time we're in town.

So let's talk bathrooms. When it comes to a five star bathroom, we give the highest rating when a bathroom comes with a sauna so even if the temperature of the stalls are less than ideal, you can always warm yourself up in the toasty sauna.

I was in the market for a gym that I would actually want to go to and look forward to attending. I checked out momentum and the front and chose to join the front because the facility is incredible and I love the sense of community. Everyone here is so friendly and I have made some great new friends. The whole staff is great! Michelle who works here helped me pick out a harness and was so helpful and kind. Every time I come in she checks in on me and makes me feel so welcome, even though I'm new to climbing and the gym. I love being able to go climb with friends and learn a new skill but also like that I can go lift weights and get my workout in upstairs. I wanted to get into yoga but yoga studios are so expensive. The front has unlimited yoga on top of everything else. I highly recommend this gym- you get so much for what you pay.

Yelp Review - The Front Climbing Club Admittedly, I am pretty new to the world of rock climbing. I am 100% a beginner. So far, I have loved everything about it. But that was all called into question when I walked into The Front Climbing Club in Salt Lake City, UT last night. After my experience I left the gym feeling embarrassed and small. I felt like I was an idiot and felt like I didn't belong there. The system they have in place for certification is a joke. AFTER paying their high price tag for a day pass at 9:50 pm (they close at 11), I was told I couldn't climb on ropes unless I took their pass/fail test on the Figure 8 Pull-through Knot. I was given one chance and if I failed, I had to leave and try again another day. Note, I take climbing very seriously, knowing how to tie the knot correctly is the difference between having a great time and serious injury and/or death. But here is my problem, I was offered ZERO educational guidance on the knot, it's somehow against their rules to teach someone how to do it, the person I came to the gym with couldn't teach me and I couldn't practice on the rope. I basically had to hide the fact I was trying to learn this knot on Youtube before taking the test. Well, I failed. At this point, I am lost... why did they just charge me for a day pass, tell me I had to pass their test, yet they offer no help, no instruction, no teaching, no educational video? How do they expect anyone that is a new climber to pass? And to make things worse, the staff was all weird about it, not nice at all. But I can totally understand, they are put into this weird situation by the employer. I guess I just expected a little more hand holding to the newcomers. Especially after charging that much for admission and gear. It will take a lot of courage for me to go back but bc of convenience, I really don't have a choice if I want to continue my pursuit, I live 5 mins away. I hope they rethink the system they have set up for the newcomers to the sport. I failed their test but thankfully I was issued a refund. That is why I gave 2 stars. It was such a bad experience, I was genuinely surprised that it turned out this way.

I've lived in a number of towns and have had the pleasure going to a number of climbing gyms and the Front is one of the best, if not THE best. When you first enter you greeted by helpful friendly staff that know their stuff. Beyond them is a large selection of climbing gear and products that you can purchase at a discount if you have a membership. The staff are helpful here as well if you want to try on some harnesses or find the right shoe size. The walls are great, both on the new side of the gym as well as the old. They have a great variety and I like that from a single top rope you can usually find an easy, intermediate, and hard route all from one spot. This means I can sit on a rope and rotate and there is something for everybody in my group to try their skills on. Routes rotate through regularly and each feel well throught-out and set with care. I've been to gyms where only boys who are musclebound, 6 feet tall and capable of one-arm-pull-ups the whole way up the route are capable of climbing. This is not that sort of place. Routes emphasize technique and allow for tall, short, powerful, or lanky climbers alike to find their own way through the route. It's refreshing to be back at a gym like this one.

possibly the worst music selection of any public space. It sounds like Ke$ha and Snookie did a colab album. don't even bother bringing your own headphones, they play the "music" so loud you'd blow an eardrum before drowning out the total trash that plays here. You better know the words "take" and "clipping" in sign language cause it's impossible to communicate them verbally. Once you're 2 clips off the ground you're on your own.

If you are looking for a gym with a condescending, elitist staff who nickels and dimes customers even after signing up, and that has a cafe upstairs, then look no further than The Front. The gym is objectively great. Big walls and lots of climbing area, especially if you are lead climbing. It is obviously a top notch facility for indoor climbing. Two big stars for the gym itself. That said, if you want to belay your climbing partner you'll need to pay more money to take a belay test. If you want to lead climb you'll need to pay even more money to pass another test. When I say test, I don't mean the walkthrough with a staff member to show you know what you are doing like every other climbing gym I've been to, but a pass/fail test that is intently graded -- they WILL fail you and send you away. This is after already paying to enter, and not a matter of the staff being too busy to otherwise help or educate customers. While you are taking your test the staff will make it very clear that they know more than you and that, as a second rate climber, your mere presence is harmful to those who actually belong there. If you are an expert climber who doesn't mind a rude staff and who appreciates coffee immediately after a climb, try out The Front. If you like climbing in a friendly environment with helpful staff who aren't interested in milking you for cash, and that is 90% as good, go to Momentum (which also has more locations that are far more convenient). Oh, and take an Uber or ride your bike if you still decide to go there, otherwise be prepared to park down the street when the 9 parking spots fill up.

This place is everything you could want in a gym! They are primarily a rock climbing gym, but they also offer group fitness, yoga, cycling, kids programs, a dog park, a cafe/ coffee shop, weights, cardio machines, etc.! At the downtown location, there is an outdoor patio space and it's great for work, relaxing or events! The gym often brings in musicians or speakers and hosts tons of fun/ informative events for members, such as music or avalanche preparedness! The staff members are amazing and knowledgeable. Not to mention, the gym partners with some awesome organizations for causes like animals adoptions, environmental conservation, and so on

This is hands down the most complete climbing gym I have ever been too. I have a home gym in Az and have climbed at many more all over the country. They have a whole room dedicated to bouldering a huge wall wall for top rope and lead as well as a full gym and cafe. It's floors on floors of fun including ping pong tables and an outdoor space for live music. This place has it all.

We miss you Front. It was a sad day when we moved away from SLC and a big reason is because of The Front. It was an excellent place to learn the sport. They have so much to offer in the way of climbing and bouldering. Their route setters do a great job of keeping things fresh and interesting on the walls. All of this was made abundantly clear when we moved away. We also enjoyed the weight section of the gym as well as the yoga. The yoga was really good but their weights area needs more attention. However, we were there for the climbing and that is what makes this review 5 stars.

$23 for a day-pass, I get that. $9 per person for a lead-belay test (top-rope belay test is $4/person)? I don't get that. Why is the gym dis-incentivizing safety? Does giving a belay test cost the gym anything extra? No, it doesn't. Other gyms don't charge nearly that much for belay tests. Every time I went by the front desk, there were 4-5 staff members and zero customers. Makes no sense to me why they can't spend 3 minutes on a belay test at no extra cost. Ok fine, I'll just boulder for the day and it will be great. Except: the air quality in the bouldering section of the gym is terrible. The air is extremely cloudy with chalk-dust and there's not so much as a window open to get some flow going. C'mon guys, common sense and customer well-being.

Quite frankly, I pretty much always have a good old time at the old front rocking climbing club. I don't know who Big Mert is but he is definitely the best setter at the gym and has been consistently for the past 5 years. maybe even more than that. who can say? Anyway, I hear he's pretty hot, too.

The facilities are great. There's a cafe (with coffee, burritos, and beer!) on the top floor, a really well-equipped gym on the second floor plus a climbing-specific training area on the first floor, and a good-sized bouldering section in addition to ropes. I'm not sure if my experience was skewed because they transformed their entire slab wall into unmarked volume-oriented comp problems while I was there, but I found many of their V3 and above routes to either (1) rely primarily on upper body strength (and therefore were a bit pumpy), and (2) be tall and reachy/ dyno problems with barriers to sending statically. For example, their walls are made of a slick, laminated wood that deters effective smearing. For myself, I tend to prefer a mix of very different types of problems-- some that rely more on upper body strength, others that encourage lateral movement, tension, balance, core, footwork, flexibility, or leg strength, etc.-- a variety of problems that develop and reward different physical strengths and types of mental agility. I suppose I would've enjoyed it more if the setting here didn't feel like limited types of meaty routes were just being repeated across the wall. In the five days I was in Salt Lake City, we climbed here twice and once at Momentum in Sandy. This gym was better equipped overall than Momentum while the setting at both of the gyms were pretty similar. So I would say between the two I might recommend this one, especially if you want more of a community gathering space type of vibe. :)

So many things about this place should be great but aren't. The entirety of the front feels half-assed as if the owners had a great idea, got part of the way and decided to just call it done. The bouldering area is always always always cold. While that is often true outside it is really distracting inside. The bouldering wall is completely beat up and the setting feels lazy. The markings are often not maintained and peeling off. The holds are obviously trashed. The bathrooms are always dirty and trashed. I wonder if they are ever completely cleaned. Finally, The membership price is crazy unless you want to commit to a year in advance like some crappy chain gym. The staff is always lazy and never seems to want to get out of their comfy desk chairs. If the owners would take the time to really think through what they are doing and hire people who really

All Bouldering, but it is a small, awkwardly organized gym. I never felt comfortable climbing here, I always felt like I was going to fall on someone. That said, the overall club was pretty cool, there are great weights and a pool table, all sorts of stuff. While I didn't like climbing there, it seems like it would be a fun place for a younger person to join their competitive team.

They have a good variety of difficulties. A good vibe here. Price is reasonable, especially their monthly rate. Good for kids as well. We will definitely return.

This wasn't a bad place to go spend the evening. I don't work out that much, therefore I don't climb that much. So I was only able to make it up the wall two times. My son fared better than I did, but he doesn't have love handles the size of inner tubes. It was a bit expensive, $60 for the two of us. I would definitely get a membership if I came here more often. The sign in portion isn't too bad it took about 10 minutes total. Just make sure you do your waiver before you show up. Everyone here seems pretty nice, and very fit. We wrapped up the climbing with a few games of table tennis. Not a bad night out.

The good: Absolutely beautiful gym, very tall walls, very good routesetting, good vibe and generally friendly staff. The bad: The bad side of my experience is most applicable to infrequent visitors, especially lead climbers like us. My wife and I normally come to the gym 2-3 times a year during our annual ski trip. For the first time, we found a way to bring our rope (SLC area gyms don't loan or provide ropes) and stay within the 50 pound airline luggage limit, so we were psyched to finally lead in SLC. We climb after skiing and the gym is incredibly crowded in the back" top-rope" part of the gym at that "after work" time. You have to jump to any open rope (and hope it's something you want to climb), or hover over the current climbers (annoying for both parties in my opinion). Meanwhile the front "lead" section is fairly open. You'd think they'd want to encourage lead climbing to spread people out, but they charge you 9 dollars for a lead test. I realize that this not a huge amount. But on principle it's annoying, since most gyms don't charge and the Front day pass is already more expensive than Momentum Millcreek (who also don't charge for lead tests). I'm sure if you live in SLC, you pay this once and forget about it. But, we already had high vacation costs so, for the first time, we climbed at the Front only once and climbed the rest at Momentum. Another part of our reason for not climbing the Front again was a very frustrating confrontation by a staff member. Because the gym was uber crowded, we jumped onto a autobelay to warm up. A staff member walked up, told us rudely that my wife had an "incorrect" configuration, and that we would have to take a auto belay certification course to continue. He could have just taken 10 seconds to educate us, but he walked away. So what was her "offense"? I asked other climbers. The front has two carabiners on each autobelay. Apparently, they intend for you to attach to one to your harness and leave the other attached to the autobelay flag on the ground. My wife attached both carabiners to her harness, a redundant and safer configuration. Our home gym requires two caribiners, but I've climbed over 15 gyms and I know this varies by gym. What irritates me is that some gyms think their rules are handed down from the hand of god, and any deviation is a serious offense. If gym the requirement is stricter and arguably safer (for instance, one gym I visited required a double fisherman's knot over the figure 8 knot), I respect and follow even if I don't agree. But, this was a safer set up and this guy wanted us to use our limited time for an auto belay course - not happening. If you have limited time in SLC, I recommend the less congested and more welcoming-to-visitors Momentum.

I love this gym. They have everything. If I lived closer I would totally have a membership. Unfortunately that means I am a momentum gal. I love their king long table, their sauna, and their work out area. If I was to improve anything about this gym it would be how much more creative the bouldering routes could be. As a frequent traveler , one of my favorite thjngs tk so is check out bouldering gyms where we I go. I believe there is room for improvement as far as route setting goes.

We are not avid climbers and didn't really know what we were doing, but our daughter wanted to go climbing for her birthday. The whole family went, we worked with an instructor named David and I have to say the experience was fantastic. I work at a desk, so I don't pretend to be a competent climber or anything else athletic, but David made us all feel like we could do as much as we were comfortable with. I even got to take a belay test to get certified for the club, and I passed. I'm probably not going to adjust my lifestyle just yet and get into climbing, but we'll be back the next time the kids have that urge.

Pros: Tall walls for sport, good setters for both sport and bouldering. Plenty to work on at all levels. Friendly staff. Nice gear shop. Sauna. Clean showers with hot water. WiFi with an upstairs seating area and courtyard. Fun events. Sociable frequenters. They seem to hire women which doesn't always happen. Not terrible music (not great either but compared to most gyms...) Cons: Not into the smooth wall thing. I also strongly dislike the stage/audience feel of the bouldering area-- anyone who doesn't like being stared at by a line of people behind them all facing the same direction is out of luck. Sauna is never on/hot-- turn it on when you get there otherwise you need to wait at least a half hour. They allow cell phones (aka cameras/stereos/other inappropriate things) into the sauna or at least don't explicitly ban them. They ask you to wear a towel in the sauna which is ridiculous/archaic-- yet dudes can go shirtless when climbing which I'm actually not down for. Sweaty and gross. I haven't tried the yoga yet but want to and will update this.

I've been going here for 2 years now and love this gym. There's fitness classes, rock climbing classes, yoga and rumsys cafe. It's the perfect all inclusive gym. The community is great, I never feel like I'm being judged if I cant finish a route, and am comfortable asking other gym goers for their beta. Best gym in town!

Beautiful gym! They reset the problems at a good rate so there is always something new but your projects won't get taken down before you get a good chance on them. Staff is helpful and friendly. Parking is a problem often and the after work time is a must avoid. Other than that though it's wonderful. I started climbing a year ago and since then I've never felt any judgement from anyone at being newer to the sport as I feared I would when I started.

I'm new to climbing and I love the Front. The staff are all really helpful, I've only encountered one or two staff that weren't super nice, but everyone else is sweet and care about my experience. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable and the people that are in the gym aren't too judgey. If that makes sense. The only downside is that it's costing me an arm and a leg to go every month, and the busy times are REALLY busy. But I just try to go at a different time and it's fine. Definitely recommend coming here to all my pals interested in climbing!

I love this gym! They always keep it clean and are willing to help with routes. They have a good supply of harnesses and shoes and good rentals. I love this gym.

WOW! Things have changed. I never liked climbing gyms back in the 90's but this place is amazing! Had to stop climbing about 11 years ago thanks to an injury. Just got the OK from the doc to get back into it a few months ago. Back in the 90's/early 2000's, Climbing Gyms seemed odd since much of the appeal of Rock Climbing was being outdoors in the first place. That and the "rock Jocks would scoff at my lack of finesse on plastic. But this place is exactly opposite of that. It started off as my training to get back into "climbing shape", which it did well. And now I love this place. I often hit the front before heading up into the canyons. And other days I end up just climbing here. Sometimes on my way to work I swing by and get 10-15 min of climbing in just to get out of the daily grind. Other times when traffic is bad; I stop by on my way home from work to blow-off steam. The Front has a Relaxed, laidback atmosphere and a ton of cool people. Never once felt like the odd one out when starting again; even amongst the elite climbers here. In addition to the climbing; they have a great gear selection (which has helped me re-build my trad rack at a great discounted price ~ 10% of each purchase goes back onto your account.) Knowledgeable staff that has shown me all the new advances in gear and gadgets since I last purchased it so many years ago. Anyway, all-around great place. Really enjoying my decision to get back into climbing thanks to The Front! If you're thinking about getting into climbing, getting back into climbing, or just looking to get into shape or find a new crowd to hang-out with... give this place a try. There is a bit of everything here. You will be happy that you did. Tons of Climbs; short and long, super easy to exxxxxxxtremely difficult. Tons of classes to get you going (or back into it), haven't tried the Yoga or the individual training/instruction, but I'm sure I will be delving Into that soon enough with our cold Utah winter coming. Thanks again to the staff! Everyone has made my transition back into the lifestyle over the past few months easy and enjoyable with no judgement and tons of encouragement and suggestions. Mahalo!

This gym has three treadmills located on the second floor. When all of them are in use at the same time, it trips the breaker. Having your treadmill come to an abrupt stop while running was startling, jarring and potentially dangerous. It happened to me three times on two separate occasions. I wrote an e-mail to the owner of the gym, Dustin Buckthal, voicing my displeasure. His response showed a blatant lack of concern, was condescending and made no apologies. Instead, he suggested I try yoga to reduce my stress levels. He also let me know he would be cancelling my membership for me. If you have an issue with this gym you would like addressed, don't bother. Unless you're looking to get kicked out.

New gym is amazing! We had a fantastic tour with China and learned that the climbing walls are actually the tallest in the nation! Beautiful woodwork inlaid in the walls, yoga classes and workout area, some kind of climbing treadmill I had never seen that rolls as you climb. Membership is cheaper than what we pay at a much less amazing gym in California. Will be back!

Favorite gym in Utah! Awesome facility, staff, and yoga classes. The new expansion is beautiful (& huge)! The routes are updated regularly too, which keeps gym climbing more interesting.

Zero stars. This place is a huge ripoff. First, they refused to honor my friends buddy pass even though they had verified my name on the guest list. Then, when I asked to purchase a pass for a single yoga class, they wanted 22 dollars! I had been thinking of signing up anyway, so I told my friend to go up to class and I would join him. Then they proceeded to tell me that to simply join up, I would have to shell out 150 dollars!! Because it's the front! Where you have to be wealthy if you want to be healthy. I had to walk home in the cold, so I guess I did get some exercise despite the front.

My boyfriend and I joined The Front Climbing Club a couple months ago as beginner climbers. We have truly fallen in love with the sport, and hope to do it for years to come! And we plan to do it with The Front Climbing Club, there is so much more to this awesome gym then just climbing! If you are looking for rock climbing (top rope & bouldering), regular gym, awesome work out classes including yoga, as well as a delicious cafe, and an awesome community! Then your search is over, stop by The Front and see what I am talking about!

I love The Front! They have amazing yoga classes and all the climbing one could want. The staff is incredibly friendly, nice, and helpful. It's always clean which is important to me. I would recommend The Front for anyone looking for variety in their workout routine.

I've found my gym home in my new city! It's always tough to relocate and find a new gym to fulfill your fitness needs. Luckily I didn't have to wait long to discover The Front. While I'm not much of a climber, I fully utilize their amazing CrossFit and weights area, their phenomenal yoga, and a recent addition of cycling, TRX, and other fitness classes. And when i do feel like climbing, there are tons of staff and members around to climb with, make friends with, and learn from. Michelle and Alex at the front desk have been immensely helpful in helping me feel at home at this gym. Couldn't be happier here! If you want a true community, and a fully equipped gym, top notch yoga, and amazing new friends - JOIN!

I was on the fence about spending so much for a monthly membership, but I'm so glad I did! This gym provides everything I need in one setting. I can climb, workout, take group classes, and even do yoga. The staff is always very helpful and friendly and the gym is clean. There's also a great sense of community if you're new to climbing or the SLC area. They also just opened the cafe upstairs and the food is so good! I highly recommend ditching your other gym memberships to have everything in one place at The Front.

Love their sauna. This is by far the most amazing climbing facility and overall gym that I've ever been to. Their belaying tag testing is a bit strict but that's ok. Billing can be confusing, but overall I do think this is the best climbing gym there is downtown.

The best. Climbing to your heart's content, weights, ping pong, wifi, tons of yoga classes; Ashtanga, Anusara and Vinyasa, (and showers in the locker rooms!) all come with your very affordable membership, or you can drop in for a really good price as well. You can even bring your dog with you and let it hang out in the dog yard! I have been teaching Ashtanga yoga here for 5 years and have never felt more at home. There are a wide variety of super cool members here and I have seen many friendships and even romances blossom between them, so it's a great place to meet people and get your exercise in! There is a shop where you can buy climbing gear, yoga mats and healthy snacks--even kombucha and smoothies- and they are remodeling this year; it will definitely be the best climbing gym in the west. So many epic things about to happen at this already fabulous place.

I really enjoyed my time at the front along with my wife, their were many many different things to do including weight lifting, yoga, and climbing walls. The atmosphere was very non judgmental. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because the lack of cleanliness and lack of guidance, being our first time there we had no idea where anything was and we we would of really appreciated some help. With that said, the front is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to others.

It's a really good bouldering gym that is convenient to downtown. It doesn't have ropes, and the other exercise equipment is minimal. If you're looking for varied bouldering terrain and great route setting, this is the spot in SLC to go to.
