Came for a comedy show on a Sunday night.. I had a great time, laughed my butt off for like 3 hours.. plus they have cool staff, friendly vibes... Definitely recommend coming and I would love to see another comedy show or bring a date here. Great time

Wow, what an incredible first-time experience at this comedy club! The talent here is top-notch. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was electric. The host kept the energy high and the laughs rolling, the bartender mixed fantastic drinks while throwing in some hilarious banter. This place truly offers a complete comedy package. Can't wait to come back for more laughs!

Our bartender (Nick) was fantastic. Skilled in his craft. Prices were fitting to the level of flavor that he was able to incorporate into each of the bar's very unique drink menu. I've added just a few photos for reference. I will return to this establishment the next time I am in San Francisco for the bar alone and I recommend that you do the same. That being said I had come to the function for a comedy show and at the end of the night had come to find that the overall experience here was lacking. Less than half of the comedians were actually funny. The majority of the comedians were a bust and instead of realizing it was their jokes that were bombing they chose to blame the audience. The amount of insecurity that was projected on to us not being a "lively enough" or "entertained enough" audience was cringe to say the least. Two very embarrassingly desperate comedians even went so far as to insult our facial expressions as if us not laughing was our fault. We drove over two hours with the intention of enjoying ourselves and having fun. It was very disappointing to say the least. If we weren't laughing it's because the comedians needed more practice in delivering and experience overall. We stayed through the night for both shows. The first show's presenter did a pretty good job keeping the audience involved and the energy alive, although only three of the comedians in the entire show made us laugh. The second show's presenter was a definite DOUBLE D. Desperate and dull. Our lack of response to her painfully self centered set and interaction with us was so that she decided to take it out on the audience in an almost tantrum like Manner. Audience response teaches you which jokes work. It's important to use that experience and information to better hone whatever skill you have rather than to attack your audience. We all start somewhere and it's nothing to be ashamed of but insulting people flat out without even the set up or follow up of a joke is an indication of where your "career" is headed. Confidence is key however talking down to your audience is not the way to win them over or gain support. The comedian who joked about never winning a fight with his girlfriend... You were very funny. Clearly the most experienced comedian of the night between both shows and your ease on the stage and engagement with all of us on top of the responses you were getting from the audience was a clear sign that you are going places my friend. "Doorman" who was also a comedian in the show, you were actually my favorite. I realize you are just starting out but if you're this funny in the very beginning I am confident in your future and I am looking forward to being in your audience again. The comedian who bragged about opening for John legend and then raged on everyone for bombing your set and stating that we "didn't matter because you performed for thousands at a time"... Go home. The only thing that was close to a joke during your presence on that stage was your grossly entitled confidence being that there was nothing noticable to back it. And lastly...koffman... Cough cough. 😐🥱🤫 A formal and extremely detailed review on the show will be published and available on all platforms soon but for now, this has been my quick and overall review.

Cozy and intimate comedy club/bar and they have some pretty funny comedians on stage. A few of them are beginner comedians that went on after the main event. It was cool and it's nice to support the business! Security up front is friendly as well.

Nice drinks and fun vibe! The performers range in skill, but overall they far exceeded my expectations for a free show. Prices are typical of cocktail bars in SF - high but nothing outrageous.

Free comedy? In a well stocked bar setting? Count me in! The Function is a great place to hang out for an evening of laughs whether you are solo, on a date, or in a group. Pick a show on the weekend and get in line early to grab your seats! Friendly staff some of them are even the comics! Thanks for a great time Function team!

Comedy was decent. Bar & drinks were amazing. I understand they need to make money through the drink minimum and tips but the way the waitress went through the crowd every few minutes forcing drink orders was disruptive, one comic even had to comment on it. Also no shade but we went to rush hour comedy night for black and Asian comics and there wasn’t a single black comic outside of the host lol

Small and intimate. Very funny comedians. Definitely a must come. Me and my friends were laughing the whole time.

This review would be a few more stars if the owner didn't spend the vast majority of his time on stage calling women "b*tches" and belittling white women specifically. Then when he was off-stage, he was talking loudly to other comics next to where I was sitting, so I had a harder time hearing the show. Let me back up: I generally love standup comedy, and go to a lot of local shows. At The Function, I came to the Christmas Eve early show. I was five minutes late, not realizing they would start exactly on time. Admission was $15/each. I was informed that the "space reserved" for wheelchairs was a little space next to the front door, as far from the stage as possible. Okay, fine, I wasn't going to argue, especially since I was five minutes late. The club space itself is a shotgun-style bar. It's beautifully decorated, feels very contemporary and upscale, definitely gentrified for the neighborhood. The cocktails were average-upscale in price and well-made. I enjoyed my Lemon Drop. They also had a menu of intricate-sounding holiday-themed cocktails, which were probably delicious, but I'm a simple girl who likes the classics, and I was very happy with my drink...Definitely keep that bartender! The mostly-male line-up offered both racial and age diversity. Most the comedians relied on the usual misogyny, homophobia, and reductive jokes about white people. There were two standouts: A guy with a goatee who was a born-and-bred San Franciscan and had some great one-liners, and a 50-year-old woman named Pam, who called out a particularly chauvinistic comedian for his misogyny and kept everyone in the club in stitches! I would've been happy if the show had just been those two comics! I also want to give a shout out to "Dirty Mike", the emcee, who did a great job of keeping the energy alive in the room between the other performers. Near the end of the show, they announced that they were sending a tip bucket around, suggesting a "tip" (is it a tip if you shame everyone into paying it?) of $10-20 per person, or "$3,000 if you're white". We tossed in a $20 "tip" for the two of us, which meant that between that and the door fee, this show was actually $25/each, which it was definitely NOT worth. This space really is NOT 100% WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE, with the exception of the very front entrance. Once inside, if all the bar seats are taken, it's virtually impossible to maneuver a wheelchair of any ADA-compliant width through the space. I wasn't able to get through the bar at all, so cannot comment on the bathroom. There is also a balcony that is 100% NOT WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE. So, if you use a wheelchair, be prepared to sit in a tiny alcove by the front door, as far from the stage as possible. There is no ADA-compliant section of the bar, but the goatee-having comic apparently also works there and came around to check if we'd been able to order drinks. I would say that I'd come back here for a cocktail at a time when there wasn't a show, because the bartender was great and the cocktail was delicious, but honestly, there are tons of more-wheelchair-accessible bars out there, and the owner put out a bad vibe. Why would I want to give business to a man who misogynistically belittles women who share my skin color? I also definitely wouldn't go back for comedy again, because the show was over-priced for the caliber of the performers (with the exception of the two I mentioned above!). Comedy is so subjective, though, so if misogyny, homophobia, and jokes about "white b*tches" are funny to you, you might enjoy this place.

I have been here twice now, and it is such a beautiful cocktail bar with all of the vibes for the holidays. they have really creative cocktail menus with hilarious names. The bartender with the blond and pink hair was a rockstar and super friendly. by 7:00 PM, they have their comedy shows. The only thing that was off putting was how aggressive they try to get you to leave if you are not there for the show. I was told they used to kick everyone out in order to charge a cover fee to re-enter. Other than the off putting vibes, it's a cute bar. But I would always end up at sugar lounge in Hayes valley because they don't kick people out

Came to check out a comedy show on a Friday night and enjoyed the drinks and overall vibes here. The seating area can be filled pretty quickly so come early and get seated as soon as possible to get a better view.

Finally a bar with good drinks that does comedy EVERY night of the week. I actually had 4-5 delicious espresso martinis and went to bed shaking but worth it. But anyways, they typically have a line up of a few comedians with 10-20 mins per set which is nice because you get to see a variety of folks, so if you're not feeling one, another one will be up soon. Everybody I've seen here is pretty funny though. The owner, Stroy, does not hold back! He's hilarious and really takes it there. It's refreshing for sure. The comedians are pretty diverse so there's something for everyone. The aesthetic inside is super cute and cozy and classy, but the prime seating is limited, SO COME EARLY. And if you end up in the front row, expect the comedians to interact with you a bit--but that's part of the fun!

I purchased a couple of tickets for the 9pm Valentines comedy show, not realizing that this place is a shotgun style narrow bar with minimal seating space. This place was beyond capacity and my partner and I were sardined somewhere between nowhere and a wall, trying to desperately make way for the struggling bartenders who looked like they were working for satan.

This is a new comedy club to the scene that will officially open in the coming weeks that showcase local comedians. It is also self-proclaimed to be the first black owned comedy club in SF by Stroy Moyd who has opened for Dave Chappelle before and he is hilarious! Drinks are good and the ambiance is a cozy hotel lounge living room vibe. We ordered the Negroni and shot/beer/scratcher special and both were good! Service was also fast. Order at the bar on the stand up nights with a two drink minimum and come support local comedians from the Bay! The vibe is great and I will definitely be back.

It's always a great experience here! I'm thrilled to see the turnout improving--this place truly deserves more recognition. Huge kudos to the staff and comedians. I'll definitely be coming back more often!

Soft openings can be hit or miss and this was definitely a hit! Right off the bat, the feelings is warm and welcoming from the cold street of Market. Lush teals and soft golds envelope you as you walk into the bar. I had the chuckle fuc*er which is a gin based drink. And it was spicy! Not only was there a tajin rim glass there was also a perfectly sliced jalapeño with seeds added. The owner did mention that there will be charcuterie boards and spiced nuts available eventually. For a soft opening, it felt like this place has been part of the SF bar scene for ages. Great workers, optimal location, and delicious drinks. Oh and they proudly serve NA drinks too thst even the owner was ordering for himself. Can't wait to try the wines as well!

Negative stars if I could. Bought tickets to celebrate Valentine's Day at their comedy show only to show up after an hour drive to find out they over sold the venue. NEVER AGAIN!!! Shame on the owners and promoters. Don't do it. We could've gone anywhere for valentine but we chose this place and they ruined our evening

It was not a great experience. We were seated upstairs and had to watch a live show on TV! WTF. I didn't get to see the live show. Then I was told it was a 2 drink minimum, which made me feel price gouged. The show was funny, but overall paid too much for ok comedy on a TV! Not even live!

Wanted to check this out as it's in the neighborhood and walk by it often. Finally stopped in and saw tix online for $25 but got to the door right before the show started. We paid at the door $10 each either cash or Venmo. Glad we waited to buy walking in. 2 drink minimum and unsure how close of a tab they keep on it. We did each buy 2 drinks. Drinks were so so but went for the show. Wish there were more options and bites. The space is pretty small inside. Cute for having a casual drink but felt a bit tight for the show. I do appreciate the tvs at the bar that show the stage as well so everyone can see. The people smoking right outside the door was pretty bothersome to me as it basically felt/smelled like it could've been the person next to me. The comedy show was pretty disappointing sadly. It was too amateur and most didn't feel funny. We left shortly before it ended but was nice to check it out briefly.

I love the cozy setting of the club and how they try to encourage everyone in the audience to be interactive with the artists on stage. The bartenders work really fast and make sure that everyone is taken care of even if they're not sitting at the bar.

Granted it's free so we can't be too picky. But not even worth the effort. First, there is no where to sit. You have to get two drinks to even try and see if there is seating upstairs. It's sold as a comedy show, but really it's a bar. The show doesn't start on time. I had to leave because I could not stay in that environment very long, so no idea if the comedians were good once they actually came on. But just know what to expect, the venue is not what you would think

Such a fun comedy club! Went on a Tuesday night and had a great time. Wonderful variety of comics, many likely working out material, with a good smattering of styles amongst them. Enjoyed a cocktail and the show from a comfy couch in the second row of the intimate stage set up. Looking forward to coming back!

I headed out with friends for a night of comedy trivia. As we strolled in, the lively Halloween decorations instantly caught our eye. While there was no food the specialty drinks were an absolute delight that we couldn't resist. The bartenders were a blast, so lively and welcoming! With a professional comedian leading the trivia, it turned into a hilariously good time. Plus, they have mid-game prizes--a round of drinks for your team! Don't miss out on this fun experience!

I'm updating my review because people make mistakes and it also matters how they deal with it afterwards. The owner has been really quick with his responses to my emails and is making a refund happen so all in all not much was lost. and I'd like to think it was all due to poor planning for the holiday and it's not an every day thing.

My friend and I had an awesome time! The comics were on point and the drinks were flowing! 10 out of 10

easily one of my favorite spots now! The venue is beautiful--cozy, stylish, and perfect for a fun night out. The drinks were fantastic, and Ivette, the bartender, was amazing! She was so kind and full of energy, making the whole experience even better. And I can't forget Shaba, the adorable dog who completely stole the show. She brought such a magical and unique vibe to the night.

We were in town visiting a friend and he suggested we check the Funcheap site for something new and different to do. We saw that The Function was having its soft opening, and the combo comedy club/cocktail bar intrigued us. The space was beautiful, and like the cocktails, crafted! Speaking of, the wife went with an Old Fashioned (which had a delicious banana simple syrup), while I went the mocktail route, the Passion on Market. Yum! The staff and service were excellent, a refreshing change given that so many places just dial it in these days. Not sure if The Function will always have a DJ but they did last night and he spun some chill beats. We weren't able to stick around for any comedy but if there's time before we head home we'll be sure to stop by for more craft cocktails and laughs.

My friend and I went for a Friday night stand up for the first time at this location and we had a blast. My drink was yummy, I was greeted nicely as I walked in, and I got great front row seats to the show. The comedians were great and I appreciated all the flattery from sitting in the front row :) The Halloween decor all around was also very eye-catching and lovely. Would definitely return for another show

This was my first time going to a comedy show and it will definitely not my last! I came in on a Thursday night and the bartender Sarah was a sweetheart (and her cocktails were amazing) My friend even asked her to make him something off the menu and he loved it so much he got two more! The show was fun and although it wasn't super crowded, the energy was great and most of the comics were pretty funny. Especially Tony! Will definitely be back

The Function is hands down one of the best cocktail bars in town! The vibe is the perfect blend of classy and laid-back, making it a great spot to unwind or celebrate a night out. The cocktails are top-notch--each one crafted with care and creativity, featuring unique twists on classic drinks. My personal favorite was the "Mark's Magma" a smoked old fashioned, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the live entertainment. The pianist is absolutely incredible--he's not only a musical genius but also insanely attractive, which definitely doesn't hurt the experience! He knows how to keep the energy just right, effortlessly switching between jazzy standards and quirky, upbeat tunes that have everyone tapping their feet. Whether you're here for date night, a casual meet-up, or just flying solo, The Function will leave you buzzing. Can't wait to come back for another night of great drinks and even better vibes!

Greatest addition to the comedy club business. The epic piece to THE FUNCTION, who the owner is. This comedy club is a work of art and is located in my opinion, the best city in the world.

Food quality was awesome. Great bar and comedy! The host and comics were awesome--had an amazing time!

Such a fun new comedy club in SF!! We got free tickets on Eventbrite for the 7pm Saturday show, but there's a second show 8:45pm and shows every day of the week. As soon as you walk in, you can tell the love that was put into building this place, with dark teal walls, paintings, gold light fixtures, beautiful chandeliers, and a very well-stocked bar. I heard this is the only Black-owned comedy club in the Bay, and it's landed with a splash. The doorman was really warm and welcoming, and it took a few minutes to get our orders in at the bar but it was worth the wait... the drinks were incredible. I got the passionfruit mocktail and added vodka, my friend got the basil mocktail, and my other friend got the Coffee Kicktail (basically an espresso martini), and all the drinks were delicious. I loved the passionfruit drink and later got a second one because it was perfectly balanced with sweet and tartness, I could taste the alcohol a little bit but I can convince myself it's juice, AND, there was a tajin rim to top it off with a little spice. Would go back to the bar just for this drink. You really do have to get here early to get a good seat near the mic. There's plenty of seating towards the back of the bar and on the balcony inside, but the comedian and mic may not be in your eyeline. We sat upstairs on the balcony and the energy was electric, everyone inside was just really happy to be there, enjoying drinks, and very soon laughing A LOT. There were quite a few comedians in the lineup (no intermission), and Stroy the owner had to be my friends and I's favorite. He was so funny, really went back and forth with the crowd, and made everyone feel at home. All the other comedians were great too, some with darker humor and some with lighter humor, so I feel like there's a bit for everyone. We couldn't stop laughing the whole way through, and left a tip for the comedians at the end. I am really impressed by how Stroy and his team makes this place feel like an intimate community-- it was easy to talk to the comedians after, the bartenders were super nice, and my friends and I even talked to some of the other patrons. It's hard to find such a welcoming and diverse space even in San Francisco and I am really excited that there's a new place to add to that list. Hoping to be regulars here :)

Amazing cocktail menu. Amazing service. Love the decor and ambiance. Laughed all night & really enjoyed the Black laughs matter show. Can't wait to go back. And an extra thanks to Evette for her amazing service & drinks.
