The Gaff

Stopped in with group of 7 on a Monday evening. Bartender was helpfully and as an added bonus they have Busch Light cans (need I say more). We ordered some pizzas and enjoyed the beautiful evening out back. Pizza was quick and delicious. They also offer a cauliflower crust for those with gluten sensitivity. Overall a must stop while in Port A.

Absolutely loved this place. It’s what us Aussies call a Dive Bar. Great, cheap, cold beers, dart board, pizzas and full of locals. We were made to feel so welcome and had drinks bought for us both times we Went. If you want to know a place go to the local bar and this is the one!

10/10 must visit in Port Aransas. Most welcoming place we've found on our travels, Olivia was real attentive, topping up our drinks, making sure we had everything we needed. Extremely welcoming to 2 Brits. Please try this place out. The pizza is amazing.

Hay now their pizza is pretty damn good. Had a 12 inch cheese pizza. And a coke. Beer will have to wait till Saturday. Very friendly establishment. Even the guest where friendly. Highly recommend having a slice.

One of our favorite bars in Port Aransas! Rose the daytime bartender is efficient and remembers what you like when we show up. Only had a pizza there but it was delicious! Lots of atmosphere! Only has beer and wine, no mixed drinks. Sangria on tap. Winter Texan was my husband's favorite craft beer on tap!

Great food and atmosphere, but the best part is the live music. The guitarist was amazing. Played requests and did a great job.

Summer dresses The Gaff up for Christmas! Brad plays all the best songs for the crowd. Great bartenders, serving up some pizza and their french dip sandwich. Really enjoyed the night!

What a fun place. I love this bar! Nice people too. The Gaff pizza was excellent with pepperoni, onions, bell peppers, hamburger, black olives, mushrooms.... Outstanding! Beers were nice and cold. We had a fun night.

Unfortunately,my first food experience here was one I'd like to forget. One of my favorite things to do is take a pizza to the beach. This particular evening I'd built a fire,weather was perfect and I was ready for an evening listening to the waves and looking into the fire. The Gaff,a local dive bar,is reputed to have good pizza. So,we slid by ordering in person. Telling us it would be 30 mins,we enjoyed the live music. An hour later upon inquiring about our pizza,the ditzie counter girl reaching for our pizza said," oh I thought you were picking up! I didn't realize you were waiting." Da! By the time the pizza was back at the beach,it was cold. But the fire was hot and nighttime beach experience mitigated the pizza faux pas. However,I wouldn't go back to the Gaff. The owner was standing there and knew what happened. He could have easily replaced our cold pizza with a hot one, on the house . No Go!

Glad we went by. Ordered for take out. The wait on our pizza was 45 min. So we hung out chit chatting at the bar with friendly bar staff and great people at the bar. The live band was awesome and having some tasty draft beers. Time went by so fast our pizza was done. Closed out went back to our place and had an amazing pizza. Thank you will be back again soon.

Fun little dive bar with belt sander races on Sunday. Speedy service (order at counter). Easily one of the top 3 pizzas we've had... and we pizza a lot.

The pizzas are pretty good. The atmosphere is pleasant and friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves there. Definitly going back.

Party like a local! This is a pirate themed dive bar with live music and the best dogs. We came for the annual talk like a pirate day parade and EMS fundraiser and we had a blast. Jim Dugan was playing an acoustic guitar set in the back and we sang along to Americans favorites while we waited for pizza. My friends ordered pizza and I enjoyed locally brewed craft beer from Nueces brewery. My fella ordered N/A beer. I met the owner Kip and his wife Heidi and they were so warm and authentic. They shared with me the struggles they faced on the island after the deviation of hurricane Harvey. They told me they were expanding the N/A beer selection and we talked about his previous work at the historic Scholz Garten in Austin, where we live. Places like this provide a real taste of island culture and it's so important to support this kind of independent business. We will definitely be back next year!! Support your local pirate bar!

Dare I say best pizza I've ever had! As many times as we've visited Port A and I had never eaten pizza from The Gaff until recently. It was highly recommended by our hotel. Hands down the BEST pizza I've ever tasted. The toppings are UNDER the cheese. It can get a little stuffy in the warmer months but there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy the cool beach breeze. It is a little hole in the wall spot that I would have passed up and am so grateful it was recommended. I need to go back asap because I've had such a craving for it lately.

We just absolutely loved our time here. The bar was so chill and the people were great! Tons of cute pups & plenty of outdoor seating. It's a truly simply and relaxing place but we loved it. The garlic cheese bread was good! It wasn't soggy and have a nice crispy bottom. You are getting exactly what you order! The Pizza was so good - we got a simple cheese pizza and destroyed it. I seriously love that they hand you some paper plates, your pizza, and a kitchen spatula. I'm telling you, chill vibes with some great pizza. We even got a few shirts because it was such a unique place with some good memories.

Love me some Gaff!! This isn't your standard touristy place. Definitely a regular spot, well worth it. Bartender is sweet as could be, we had our two dogs and they were just fine accommodating as long as they stayed on a leash. Cold beer and some wine, but the pizza, it was outstanding! We got the World Famous Gaffer. Crust is crispy on the bottom, holds up to all those toppings and delicious melty cheese. I will 100% go back every time and get that same pizza. Go support awesomeness!

Fun locals bar. We came in from Michigan and stayed in town several days. The pizza here was amazing

Food was decent overall. We ordered a lot and ate most for leftovers over our vacation time. The staff gets 5 stars. It was blazing hot inside and they were hustling and calm and kind. The place is cool. It's a beach tavern feel but I feel kids are just fine there.

That's right folks. This little hole in a wall joint holds the bragging rights for being the "birthplace of Texas belt sander racing." Although they didn't have the races the day I was there, I did get to see the "tracks" out back. It looks like it might be an entertaining sport. I was on a quest looking for a late afternoon meal, and this place said "pizza" on the outside, and since most of the Yelp reviews say they have good pizza, I stopped in. Well, after realizing they allow dogs inside (I love dogs, but don't bring them inside a bar or food establishment) and they still allow smoking inside, I decided to just get a cold brew and hang out on the back patio instead. If you're looking for a fun and relaxed dive bar to hang out at, this is probably it. There's plenty of picnic table seating out back and they have a small stage for live music events. Beer prices are great - cans of Sierra Nevada Sierraveza are $1.50 - you just can't beat that with a stick. It's CASH ONLY. Again, it's a great place to hang out, but the smoking inside thing really turned me off. I don't mind cigarette smoke on a patio, but when it's inside, it just plain stinks...

We just ordered the pizza for pick up. It was hot and made as orders received. It was delicious. The veggie pizza was so good! Highly recommend. We have eaten indoors so it's always a must have when on the island.

My favorite place on the island! Our dogs loved meeting everyone and all of the other dogs. Casual and cool with so many friendly faces. Do yourself a favor and order the pizza! If you are a dog person this is your place! All well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome.

Funky fun for Christmas! So it was the only place open in town, but it was still worth the visit. We enjoyed our brief stay at the bar catching up on local color. So much to see. Beer was beer. Cold.

The vibe of this place is cool but the food is mid. If you don't like too much cheese this place isn't for you. We ordered a meatball sub and it was mostly bread and cheese, barely any sauce. Also, the bartender was very rude. She brought us out paper towel and some plates and I said thank you and she didn't even acknowledge me. She also got upset with me for not signing and losing a receipt. Not cool. This place is pet friendly though which is why we stopped as we had already checked out of our hotel. Also, they have real chickens outside which was neat I guess but the noises they make are annoying.

Pizza great. Service excellent! Bartenders attentive and polite. Love the ambiance. No AC, so be prepared, BUT dogs are always welcome inside.

We had garlic cheese bread and pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese pizza. It was so delicious. Service was quick, you ordered at the bar then they gave you a pager so they could let you know when your order was ready. They had live music the night we were there. We were bummed we missed the belt sander races. Would definitely go back!

Delicious hot, fresh pizza. Food is prepared in a little pizza oven in the corner of the bar. No hard liquor, only beer at the bar. Staff were super friendly.

Not 100% satisfied. I ask for a 12" pizza, but instead I get this. New York was to busy talking about New York. Also nuggets where just like crumbs of chicken. Atmosphere and crowd did seem nice.

This place is amazing !! Probably THE BEST pizzas in Texas. Definitely 2nd best i've ever had - we had the Gaffer pizza - so darn good. Cold PBR and a pizza was the jam when we visited. Employees were great and engaging - zero issues. Pro tip -don't leave the spatula in the box - we took it back to our condo and returned it the next day - i felt funny walking in with just a spatula in hand. This place is fairly well known and i imagine really busy at times. Didn't get to see the belt sander races - but that's for next time we visit. Best pizza on the island - don't waste your time anywhere else. I'm serious don't do it .

Looking for giant perfect pizza done in10-15 minutes? Move along, this is not the pizza place you're looking for.... How about really friendly locals that give the same friendly service to tourists as they do their regulars? Then you've found the place. They promote local brew options on tap, love dogs, and serve really good hand made pizza. Talk to the staff and the regulars, they are more than happy to give you the real lowdown on where to go for anything in Port A. Fishing, tours, seafood, best beach area, you name it. Make this place your first stop after you check into your rental.

This place is pretty damn awesome. Total dive bar with a great local islander feel. Definitely a place that has character and history. Has great friendly staff that is accommodating and quick with the drinks and the jokes. PLUS.... and here is the next level sh*t that will blow your mind.... Wednesday nights... Live music and... BELT SANDER RACES!!! One of the most redneck, white trash, drunken debauchery events I have ever been blessed to witness. (See photos) Pizza was great... it was cold, so we had some baked potato soup... delicious! The Gaff... no frills...no judgement... no lines... all fun! #eatthelocals

Came here for drinks one night. We were a little disappointed to find out this is a beer and wine only bar (apparently this is a thing in Texas). Our bartender was super nice and suggested things we might like since neither of us were really wanting beer or wine. She suggested sangria for me and a ranch water for my husband. We ended up really enjoying both. You can tell this is definitely a more local place. They have belt sander races on the weekend which I have never heard of but sounds like it would be something worth seeing. They also serve pizzas here which we saw coming out of the ovens and looked amazing and fresh! If we hadn't ate already I would have ordered one. Cool spot.

This is a great place to go if you are looking for a divey bar! It definitely has a lot of character and is a fun place to go grab a drink or even a slice of pizza! You also can catch belt sander races here !

We went to the restaurant to try the pizza because we'd read good reviews. We found several people smoking inside. While the doors and windows were open, we don't enjoy cigarette smoke while eating so we went elsewhere. The atmosphere seemed nice and casual. We may try it another time and take it to go.

Great entertainment area and a real local feel. Although very small I think if you are visiting Port A, this should be on the Places to Stop list...... Look for nights when Jim Dugan is playing.

I love this place! Best dive bar and pizza on the island but last time I was here I was sitting at the window looking outside and there were a ton of baby roaches. Also summer is rude. But love the sangria ask for it in a tall glass no ice if you can.

Every time we go to Port A this place is a must for dinner. Pizza is great and beer is cheap.

On keto lifestyle so no pizza for me. The Buffalo wings, I must say were great. Not too hot like some places. Loved the small town atmosphere and the cold beverages. Friendly and attentive! Everyone raves about the pizza.

Cool bar but that's it, we stopped in after reading several good reviews about the regular and gluten free pizza, it was nothing to write home about. The only thing I can come up with on why so many good reviews on the pizza were because they were drunk and hungry lol.

I like this place very chill and staff was friendly . They only serve pizza for food though but I didn't mind the food was good it wasn't like frozen pizza freshly made that's why we had to wait at least 30 min but worth the wait.

Visited last week and the bartenders were great, beer was cold and food was good. The owner, Kipp is an absolute Bully, I have more words but I will keep this professional. The way he treats his employees is totally reckless, unprofessional and I encourage them all to call EEOC and file a claim, hostile work environment, which Ill gladly testify to. This is unfortunate for the staff, as they are intimidated and walk on egg shells the entire time they are at work. Ill never recommend this establishment to anyone and I promise to share my experience with everyone.

Certain Saturday's of the month they do belt sander races which is a must see No, not a typo. Belt Sander Races Most fridays and Saturday's they have Live music in the evenings.
