The Galley Pizza & Eatery - Review - Asbury Park - Jersey Shore - The Infatuation

"The Galley is one of the better options for pizza before a concert or the day after a night of drinking. We like the square pies (such as the upside down or Detroit-style), appetizers like their boneless buffalo chicken strips, plus just about anything calling out to you off their extensive burger and sandwich menu (their secret-menu fish sandwich, typically an oversized fried local fish procured from Local 130 Seafood two doors away, might be among the best bites in Asbury)." - Michael Sinatra

When I think of the shore, I absolutely think of the galley! From Cooper Sharp cheesesteaks to amazing Detroit sell pizzas. There is something for everyone at this amazing spot! In an extremely cozy atmosphere, you can see Pizza’s being made every minute. I have to say I am partial to burgers, Nashville, hot chicken sandwiches, and cheese sticks, and if you order any of these three things from this place, you will be pleasantly surprised!

Google
Asbury Park's best place for amazing food and great & friendliest service. My wife's Detroit BurRoni was absolutely amazing My Meatball Calzone was made to perfection 👌 infact this is our third time eating here and no matter how much I look over the menu at so many awesome choices I just can't seem to order anything else but my favorite Calzone with Meatball. My absolute go to favorite 😋 and the dipping sauce that comes with it is something I would make exactly the same. The Galley is a must for anyone looking for a great meal...seriously. We'll be back next week. The Ferraro family

Google
Husband and I finally made our way here for dinner and it didn’t disappoint! The vodka sauce was on point and made the chicken vodka parm Detroit style pizza. The bar pie was also one of the most delicious bar pies we’ve ever had! There’s lots of bar pie competitors in the area, but The Galley ranks superior! Our server was super sweet and attentive. We definitely found our new favorite pizza joint and will be back!!!

Google
So glad decided to come here . Cant say enough . Have been to the other big pizza names in Asbury and my friend suggested the Galley. We had a big day planned a quick Asbury/Ocean Grove tour and the Kim Deal show at the Stone Pony. Walking in was greeted by very friendly hostesses and immediately welcomed . It was quiet maybe because it was 5pm and we went over the menu . Was waiting for my friend and hung out with my other friend the server Lucy gave us a lot of time to decide. She was super cool and friendly and I would love to hang with her again. So many choices for pizza : Detroit pizza , pan, traditional round , grandma . Too much I wanted to try it all. Settled on some fried mozz and the OG thin 12” pie with sausage and peppers very thin very good ingredients bar pie style . My friends had the vegan Detroit with vegan pepperoni and jalapeño and my other friend tried the Reuben which looked like it came out of Katz Deli I would definitely try that next time. Also some dynamite looking cheesesteaks coming out of the kitchen. Would absolutely return hopefully very soon when we get great weather would try all the pies. No beer here but that’s OK I don’t drink these days would be nice for a taste with the pizza maybe someday. Well done Galley. I gotta get back soon 🍕 it does fill up fast apparently !

Google
Mac and cheese made me fall in to a food coma for 3 weeks. I was never the same after rating this a 9/10 Mac and cheese. I am well know in the mac and cheese community and one of the top New Jersey critics and know for very hash ratings but this Mac truly altered my life for the better.

Google
Where do I start…. First off the staff was extremely friendly, and attentive. The menu has an amazing selection, and the food was nothing short of delicious. The place is a great vibe between the music and wall art highly recommend.

Google
Great food! Pizza was super crisp and flavorful. We got Mikes Hot honey on the side and I will say it’s good, but much more honey than hot. French fries here are SO yum! Would definitely come again!

Yelp
Galley is a staple. Food is amazing. Quick service and large portions combined with really good food. Menu is large and can't wait to try more items

Yelp
Food tastes good but it's kind of pricey for what you get. Chicken Parm/pasta is $29. You get one piece of chicken with pasta. Theres no bread or salad. Just 1 piece of chicken with some pasta. Taste is there. After reading about "large portions" in other reviews I kind of expected 2 pieces of chicken. So for the meal, an iced tea and tip it was just over 40 bucks. Seems like a lot for 1 person for 1 piece of chicken, but I'm sure the tourists that come don't really care. So 4 stars for the taste. Would be five with 2 pieces of chicken and at least bread of some kind, it is a pizza place, throw some dough in the oven to go with the "big baits" dinners so it feels like a big dinner.

Yelp
Had the sausage, pepper and onion Stromboli today and was blown out of the water. The best Stromboli I have ever had. The vodka sauce on the side was excellent too.

Yelp
Detroit Rock City.....in Asbury! I have had the Galley on my radar for a while now and happy to say the wait was worth it. Early dinner in Asbury, able to sit right down. Plenty of free parking. Service is outstanding. Local wine for sale as well as sodas and iced tea. I believe they allow byob as I saw folks drinking beer? My wife and I split the Detroit Roni which is the perfect size for my wife and I. The pizza is cooked perfectly with some char on the outside while the middle is soft like a pillow. The ingredients are top notch, high quality cheese and pepperoni. I was admiring all the tables around me to see what everyone eats...I saw a beautiful fish sandwich....cheesesteak.....a gorgeous bowl of pasta...thin crust pizza.... I cannot wait to go back....I am going to go with a group so we can try a lot of different items. Very busy pick up business. Impressive 5 stars out of the gate.

Yelp
The cheesesteak made with Pat LaFrieda shave rib eye was to dye for. Amazing and worth every cent. Service was great and the ambiance was causal.

Yelp
So I did have correspondence for the wings and I just have to say. I had them fresh and it still was not crispy as expected. I want to love them as much as my first experience but unfortunately after 3 times I'm unconvinced. The pizza remains fantastic and definitely recommend. I just want the wings to match that energy. Without a doubt any pie you will order here is phenomenal. Maybe wings are just not where this location shines.

Yelp
One of the best pies in New Jersey. I like the vibe. Definitely love the shark over the pizza oven. Delicious pizza. The also make a garlic bread like a Sicilian pizza, it's good!

Yelp
It has been a while since my last review but this place is well.worth it. We ordered chicken tenders for the kids a Titanic burger (picture) and a bacon and blue with no bun. Everything was delicious and super fresh (worth a little bit of a wait). Also, very cheap compared to the restaurants closer to the water.

Yelp
AVOID, OVERHYPED, OVERPRICED, and OVERRUN with ATTITUDE If you're thinking of eating at The Galley in Asbury, let me save you the time, money, and stomach ache. This place has the nerve to charge fine-dining prices for greasy spoon quality food and then top it off with the most condescending, arrogant staff I've ever encountered. I'm not sure if in their delusional minds they think they're filming for a Bravo reality show or auditioning to be the next Hell's Kitchen villains, but the attitude is real and it's foul. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do spit in the food with the way they treat customers. Watching them interact with people is like a masterclass in self-importance and passive-aggressive disrespect. As for the food? Meh. Overcooked, overpriced, and underwhelming. You're paying steakhouse prices for burgers that taste like they were dropped, dusted off, and served with smugness AND THE LAST SPOT IN NJ FOR PIZZA Save yourself. Go literally anywhere else in Asbury. The city is full of good spots that don't come with a side of contempt and a sprinkle of ego.

Yelp
I found this place on Instagram and immediately knew I had to have it. I got the chicken vodka parm Sammy which is served on garlic bread. It was as great as I expected it to be. The only thing I would say is be careful what you have the next day because you will be extremely gassy. My boyfriend got the chicken bacon ranch and that one was okay. The chicken was a little dry even with the ranch but still not a terrible sandwich. The reason I am giving this place 3 stars is due to the menu. The prices on the menu are not reflective of the actual price. 4 people ordering sandwiches came out to almost $100 when everything we ordered had said it was under $20 each. They did have a note on the bottom that said prices are subject to change without notice but each sandwich was ~ $5 more. That's a lot of money to add on without advertising it. It felt very misleading. When we asked why the price was different they said "we've had these same menus since 2019 and there's a note at the bottom".... How hard is it to reprint a new menu and not lie to customers. Or even put a sticker with the correct price....

Yelp
I want to come back here as soon as humanly possible! The food here is freaking BOMB.COM. everything we ordered here was delicious. For apps, we ordered the Korean kalbi and wings. The Kalbi was probably the most flavorful app. Don't let's the pics fool you. It isn't spicy, lol. It's packed with flavor. The wings were also delicious. My only critique is that they could've just had a tad more salt, but it wasn't a biggie. They still were very tender and flavorful. The pizza was craccccccck!! I ordered the fresh white, and let me tell you, the name is self-explanatory. The pepperoni was yummy. It tasted like fresh Italian pepperoni. The service was great. We sat outside, and they even put a speaker outside with some chill tunes. That was a nice touch, lol. All of our food came out pretty quick. I was actually pretty impressed considering we ordered a lot of food. For all the food we ordered, we paid around $91 before tip. (Were fat, lol) Come check this place out.

Yelp
Everything is the freshest hottest best food in Asbury NJ!!! A must try !! If you love Caesar salad !!! It's like no other!!!
google avatar

Brittany L.

Yelp
Stopped here while visiting NJ and it was outstanding! Tried the "Station 58" pizza and it was delicious! The caesar salad was possibly the best I've ever had. Has a pretty small dine-in area but a fun atmosphere! Service was great and I will definitely stop by again whenever I get the chance.

Yelp
Solid bar pie we had and the boardwalk fries with malt vinegar Was fast and pretty tasty

Yelp
Hands down one of the best pizzas I have ever had. I ordered a round plain and a Detroit BurRoni. The crispiness for both pies are superb. I love thin crust pizza with no flop and their slices hit that mark. Cheese is evenly distributed and sauce is delicious. The BurRoni deserves a chef's kiss. The ingredients were fresh, the burrata melts in your mouth and the hot honey sauce adds another element to the experience eating this pie. I didn't try the burgers but got to see a few come out the kitchen and their presentations were impressive. Restaurant is small and encourage calling in before heading out to dine in. Plaza has one hour parking. Customers come in and out so if you sit by the door and it's winter, you will be cold. Pies are fresh so the wait time will happen. Dont worry it's worth the wait. I'm not a big Pepsi product fan and that was majority of the options for non-alcoholic drinks. Definitely returning and trying other things in the menu.

Yelp
Update: the owner clearly doesn't read much, or at all. The point of my review is to show how unhelpful the staff is. If it wasn't clear from my "novel" we asked our prepaid order be served outside BEFORE we were told it was ready. Your staff refused bc they wanted a tip or service fee clearly...which we would have been happy to provide. I hope others who appreciate context take this to heart before spending money here. It's quite interesting that tonight alone there were several other unfavorable reviews posted on Google and other sites regarding this establishment and the service they received. I also find it curious that the owner commented rude and unfavorable responses to those sharing their experience, including someone of a different background than the owner to which he responded "GFY"...truly sad behavior. I hope you find the help you need, you're clearly struggling. My husband and I visited the galley today and never have we ever felt so unwelcome by a restaurant staff in our life. We originally ordered takeout for a pizza and pasta ($50 total), as the weather was touch and go. While driving the 20 minutes to pick it up it looked like the weather was clearing up. When we arrived our food wasn't ready yet so we asked if we could sit outside under the covered dining patio as we had out dog with us....its important to note that every single table outside was completely empty at 6:45 at night. My husband was told by one employee (who later identified themself as Marley) that outside was a full dining service only...we were unclear what they meant since we already prepaid and were just looking to eat while the food was hot. We waited a few more minutes as our food was still not ready and my husband again went in to let the staff know we would be sitting at the table to wait for our food. Once we sat another staff member came out to let us know our food was ready but did not bring it to us. A few minutes later Marley came out, without our food, and rudely told us we could not sit at the patio table to eat our food. When I asked why, she said "we don't know how busy dinner service will get" when I pushed back and said "clearly you guys are busy" bc the 6 or so tables outside were completely empty during a drizzly Thursday night 2 hours before they close....she said "well if you're going to get passive aggressive I don't have to deal with you". I said we are not passive aggressive but addressing you back in your tone, if someone comes in the 10 minutes it takes us to eat our piece of pizza we will leave. I can not for the life of me understand why we were not allowed to sit and eat the food we paid for at the pizzeria where we purchased said food. The only thing I can think of is the staff was looking for a service tip, in which case they should have just said so. However we were also told that they could not repackage our food as it was already boxed up....despite waiting several minutes to receive our food after being told that twice. When I said to Marley that I would just like to cancel our order based on that experience she said "well it's already made", so I asked her to bring it before the pasta got soggy. She swore the pasta would not be soggy...spoiler alert it was soggy and flavorless. The pizza was ok but nothing worth this experience. I do not recommend anyone visit here based on this experience with their service team. Last thing to note- the main reason we tried this place is bc I believe one of the owners posted on their Instagram about all of the dining options including takeout and their first come first serve patio options. Which is incredibly helpful when we have our dog with us. It's a shame that they don't allow guests to eat takeout orders on the patio on a slow, rainy weeknight when there is literally no one else looking to dine outside.

Yelp
come for the pizza, stay for the mozzeralla rounds. i can not stress enough how impressed i was with these. we grabbed one of the detroit style pies. 6 slices each. it was pretty close to perfect. this pie needs some extra time, id say about 20 mins so keep that in mind. the inside will most likely be packed, so be prepared to wait or sit outside. the burrata pie was so damn good!
google avatar

Bradley C.

Yelp
Imagine a pizza place that is crowded because they sell a style you cannot get anywhere else in central Jersey. The Galley has phenomenonal pizza, wings and salads.
google avatar

Marisol B.

Yelp
My favorite pizza spot in Asbury. Always great pizza when I go. They have sangria too.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Service charges not disclosed as required. Charged more than posted menu prices. Both violations of NJ Consumer Protection Act. Same issue has been raised in other reviews more than 1 year ago so this is a strategy to deceive people not a mistake.

Alexander G.

Yelp
This place is really good but there is a little to much salt on the deep dish but it was so good
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Food was top notch, most of our party was gluten free and they had plenty of choices, but most of all they really enjoyed their meal. My wife and I usually get the Meatman and we drive about 40 minutes to get it, but this time we tried the Station 83 and loved it too!

Kelly S.

Yelp
The food is good I usually get pizza and it's always delicious. This past order I got penne vodka which wasn't the best but the pizza was great. It's always ready fast and fresh. Staff is nice. It's definitely overpriced for pizza so sometimes I go somewhere else because I don't want to spend as much.

Yelp
My husband's always on the hunt for top notch pizza places - and he definitely found a winner with The Galley! Don't let the unassuming strip mall deter you; they have seating for ~40 inside plus a few tables outside. Three of us shared a Station 83 Pan pizza and a Bar Pie with green peppers; it was way too much food, but we wanted leftovers :) The Station 83 was hands down our favorite - gooey mozz, creamy ricotta, soppressata and hot honey. Seriously amazing! Dine in or take out - don't miss this pizza (pies only, no slices). Oh and they're BYOB!! Update: Leftovers heated up reaallll nice for lunch the next day!
google avatar

Dee H.

Yelp
This place is the best! The food is always outstanding-especially the burgers and the Station 83 Pizza and the lobster pizza and... The staff is always friendly, even when they're crazy busy
google avatar

Bosco K.

Yelp
Had take out last week and pizza was very good. It did travel well considering sometimes pizza does not. It is definitely at little higher priced. Would recommend.
google avatar

Averrell H.

Yelp
So this was probably the best chicken sandwich and fries I've had in a while. The food was so good that we wanted to eat other things they had there so we also got pizza and let me tell you ....mind blowing pizza. There's not a ton of seating but we made it work . Everyone was so nice and we received our food so fast. Definitely a 10 out 10 ..trust me come try this place.
google avatar

Zack M.

Yelp
Great food, best bar pie. good vibes, pleasant staff. Never had a bad experience eating here.
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
Had a pizza Saturday after fishing. Always great. I had the vodka chicken parm before. Best sandwich ever. Can't wait for my next fishing trip so I can stop in again.

Yelp
You know that episode in Friends from Season 4 where Monica yells out "seven...seven...SEVEN!"? Well, that's what it's like when you bite into the pizza from The Galley. If you don't understand this reference, you're probably wearing flared jeans and wide leg pants for the first time in your life while carrying around your overpriced Stanley cup...and we probably can't be friends. ...BUT if you get this reference...you get this reference.. Go ahead with your bad self and get some Detroit-style pizza and enjoy all the doughy goodness. Then "sink" your teeth into the Titanic burger...while imagining yourself dragging your fingers on some steamy windows as you do it...with Leo... You won't be disappointed. *"However, it should be noted that you will likely need to sell some feet pics to afford all the deliciousness. The prices are a little out there.

Peter S.

Yelp
Went tonight for the first time for a takeout pizza. It was as good as advertised. Friendly staff, great service. I asked for a pie 3/4 cooked so I could heat up later. When I came back to pick it up, waitress said: sorry, they cooked it too much so another one is in the oven. That simple decision and the tasty pizza made us dedicated customers for many years to come.

Yelp
After seeing their Instagram, I have been dying to come try the Gallery! I called earlier in the day and asked if we could make a reservation as I was driving down from north Jersey, for a 5 adults and 2 high chairs and they said they were happy to accommodate. About half hour before our reservation they called to let me know the table before us was running behind if we could give them a little extra time and I was so impressed that they were thoughtful enough to do this instead of just having us wait there! When we got there the table was ready, but missing high chairs. When I asked about them they told me they only had one and another table was using it. This was confusing because if they only had one high chair why wasn't that mentioned on the phone when I had called and said I needed two? So we spend the meal with our infants in our laps, inconvent but I could get past it BUT when I went to order what I had been looking forward to, the whole reason we had come- the crab cake pizza, I was told they weren't making it that day!! I was beyond bummed. This pie is posted and reposted over and over again on their page so I figured it had to be a staple! We had the loaded crab fries and the fresh pie which were delicious but I guess now I know to call ahead for that type of pizza and not to count on eating there with a baby ‍

JoAnn M.

Yelp
Ordered a small plain cheese pie. I do enjoy a crispy pie, which is definitely was. But it was quite overcook and black around the edges and the sauce didn't really have too much taste to it either. It was somewhat disappointing.

Carmen S.

Yelp
Food excellent, service great. But, when you have sign posted that says "we won't turn down the music" that shows unbelievable disrespect to your customers. Asked waitress to plz lower and she pointed out sign. Spent an hour shouting to each other. Stayed only because we had traveled 45 minutes and had no other option available. Never again. At their price point, they should know better.

Lori D.

Yelp
Fun environment and amazing fresh salads! Pizza and variety of hamburgersa must experience with jazzy music. Reserve a table if you go during regular hours

Yelp
@BigDudesBigFoods was in #AsburyParkNJ today. So we decided to look to instagram to find a place to eat. The Galley Pizza & Eatery @thegalleyap was the perfect stop for us. We started out with the Mike's hot honey smoked wings. Followed by two amazing and huge burgers on a bed of boardwalk fries: The first burger was topped with bacon Mac & Cheese and a crispy mixed fried cheese layer, the 2nd burger was a quadzilla smash burger with gooey melted port wine cheese sauce. I should have taken a pic of the empty plates. They were that good !!! #BigDudesBigFoods #foodie #delicious #foodies #globaleats #shenanigans #BDBFCertified

Elise G.

Yelp
Horrible service. Got my order wrong and when I picked it up was told that it was my problem and that they were right. No offer to do anything - like re-do the food I already paid for. Worst experience from an establishment I USED TO frequent a lot. DONE I read the review from the manager below and feel the need to clarify - never yelled, no one cried and didn't threaten anyone. Just left my food there and said I would never come back. The way I was treated was the reason I wrote what I did. Customer service 101 - treat your customer like they are your only ones AND I DIDNT ask for anything for free - so nice job not telling the truth. Oh and have posted reviews about the 3 other places we have ordered from that were FANTASTIC! Because good service and food should be recognized
google avatar

Kristin D.

Yelp
This place has fantastic pizza. I have tried a few different ones and they have all been fantastic. They also make buffalo chicken mac and cheese which is a must try. The portion sizes are large and you won't leave feeling hungry! The only thing I will advise is it's not a typical pay per slice pizza place. You can't buy a slice. The pies are also more expensive than a typical pie in the area but they are a little more gourmet so it's worth it for the price.

Jordan K.

Yelp
So we showed up not knowing this place was a smaller establishment so they did not have seating for us. We ordered food and they said it was a 25 minute wait. So we waited and 45 minutes later we were all pretty disgruntled and hangry. We got our food and took it hone to eat and it completely changed everything. I would give this place a five out of five if not for the wait time being messed up.

Chris A.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for a while now and finally decided to try it out. Got right in and while seated you can see the whole kitchen cooking the pizza which is cool. Few tables inside to sit down at, friendly staff, lots of options. We got the upside down pie which was very good. Definitely some good pizza here!
google avatar

Tammy T.

Yelp
Ambiance : Casual Pizza: Bar pie with sausage was really good. Definitely worth the calories and a trip to Asbury Park. Service: Friendly and quick
google avatar

Minor T.

Yelp
Pizza was bomb! And crispy. I got small plain regular cheese pie and vegan pepperoni on it. The only thing that shocked me and I should of asked was how much to add vegan pepperoni... it costs $8.00, once I got my bill. That is crazy, even vegan pie spots don't charge that much. Also, please have vegan sausage available ;). Otherwise I will be back, for more pizza. By the way there GF pie dough is sooooo goood the best one around town and can convert any of the pizzas listed as GF crust. It doesn't taste like cardboard.

Michael D.

Yelp
Amazing pizza and service. White pan pizza best white pie ever. Ricotta was super creamy. Absolutely delicious!!! Quick and friendly staff. Maggie's recommendations we spot on.
google avatar

Carolyn M.

Yelp
One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Truly amazing. Great service too. Can't wait to go back soon!
google avatar

Thomas C.

Yelp
Foods great! The Detroit style, round pies, bar pies, chicken, burgers and everything is on point. Like full of burrata over everything, mikes hot honey, they got it it all.
google avatar

Patricia R.

Yelp
Definitely have to say these are the best meatballs in my opinion that I've ever had in my 45 years of life. I can't wait to take my meatball loving friend to try them out. They had a little bit of a crust but we're so soft inside and the sauce was great. Pizza was also amazing it looks thicker in the picture than it was. Super thin great crossed. I can't wait to go back and try more of their other options. Anytime I'm in Asbury I will stop by for a pie for sure.
google avatar

Megan Z.

Yelp
We only had a plain bar pie, but it was really good! Everything you would expect from a thin crust pizza, maybe even moreso because the slices were actually sturdy enough to stand on their own. I could have stood a little more sauce, but that's a personal preference, and they probably purposely do that to maintain the crust integrity. Crust is crispy, light, and airy. The four stars is really just for price -- $17 for a bar pie?! $14 is on the expensive side. They have Sicilian pies here that are $38-39, which is outrageous. I get inflation and all, but it's still too expensive regardless of that. Won't stop me from going back!
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
The food is always delicious. You can tell that the owner knows food. I usually order from here off season because they get slammed all summer and the wait can be very long. They're located in Sunset Plaza. You can eat there but mostly I order takeaway. Definitely try it!
google avatar

Charmara D.

Yelp
I came here on the recommendation of a coworker and it did not disappoint. Considering the rave reviews, I went on a Wednesday evening. No customers were seated when we arrived and greeted by the awesome team. While we were there, a steady flow of people came to place and pick up orders. Each person was greeted upon arrival and received their order rather quickly. Location is cute and clean, even the bathroom (which says a lot about a place in my opinion). Ordered the brussel sprouts and Captain Sloshed burger which came with fries. Sprouts were good. I prefer mine crispier but it didn't stop me from eating them. Fries were delicious. And that burger! A guilty indulgence but so worth it! Each element was top notch. The bun, the Mac and cheese, the bacon, the patty! Moral of the story, it was amazing and you should go!
