"Located inside boutique hotel The Gallivant, Harry’s bears all the same hallmarks of discrete seaside elegance. Think comfortable rattan armchairs, tables covered with fine linen and exotic plants giving a greenhouse vibe; guided by a charming team, you will instantly feel at ease here. The cooking is classically French through and through, from traditional terrine to rabbit with mustard sauce via beef Bourguignon – all underpinned by strong produce and textbook technique from an experienced chef." - Michelin Inspector

I really wanted to give this five stars. The vibe is amazing, the decor imaginative and there are lots of nice touches to make your seaside stay fun. If you are a townie having a weekend at the seaside, everything is laid on so you don’t have to bring the things you probably don’t have. The food menu was a bit limited but very well prepared and totally delicious. The service started well and to be fair ended well but in between … well there wasn’t any. If you are paying £75 plus a head for a simple evening meal I would expect the staff to be checking in on me, offering a drink top up or more this and that. But no, we were left alone and my desire for more wine was unrequited. So, marked down big time on that. Such a pity, everything else was so good.

Lindsay is amazing! The whole team were so friendly and welcoming during our stay. Our room was perfect. We booked Gallivant to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and so the postcard in our room was an added special touch. We thought it was lovely that they had all the necessities for the beach available to the guests - sun hat /beach mat /towels/umbrella etc. The only one thing which we would’ve liked is a fridge in our room to put our Champagne in ☺️ Other than that we had an amazing short stay. We have already recommended The Gallivant to our friends . Nikki H.

Every detail in your stylish hotel has been thought of . From beach chairs and dry robes to the design of the rooms. We loved the 4pm cakes, 5pm free glass of wine and cocktails in the dunes . The staff from everyone in reception to the restaurant staff were warm and helpful. The food was amazing , the breakfast delicious and a different and healthy take on a great start to the day. The gardens make the place so special , secret places to sit and enjoy the quiet.

The staff were excellent and welcoming. James on front of house was brilliant, so polite and helpful. The Scottish manager in the restaurant was also brilliant, so knowledgeable and so engaging with all the guests. The only suggestion & not a criticism would be nice to have a complimentary soft drinks and biscuits in the room. But to be honest a lovely experience and we'll be back with the rest of the family. Thank you

The rooms are lovely, the service friendly and laid back, an aura of calm and relaxation permeates the place. It is delightful. An oasis. There is complimentary tea and cakes and English wine early evening.||The biggest draw, Harry's, under the redoubtable chef Matthew Harris (brother of the legendary Henry) and the superbly affable Maitre D, Fergus, serves top-notch food which, whilst not ground-breaking, is superbly executed and excites the palate. Wonderful. Excellent knowledge of wines and a very tempting wine list.||My only complaint is that after a superb dinner, I awoke fancying perhaps some avocado on toast with bacon or smoked salmon and scrabbled eggs, the way you do when you're in hotel which hits the mark every time. Sadly, compared to dinner, breakfast is a somewhat frugal affair. No cooked choices, continental style but without the fun bits like croissants, pain au choc and pastries. Just bread. Compared to the sybaritic fare at Harry's, it felt like we had woken up in a particularly strict health retreat, determined to deny you any calorific pleasure. An error.||Lastly, a tip on traffic. We arrived on a Thursday and left Saturday morning (on the hottest weekend of the year). However, if you had been arriving on the Saturday, at 11am, the tail back for the car parks at Camber Sands ( which are opposite the Gallivant) stretched about a mile, adding maybe an hour to your journey. Plan accordingly!

As a young solo traveler I thoroughly enjoyed my two night stay which included two morning yoga sessions, breakfast, and £180 for dinner for two nights. A great deal. With the beach being on the doorstep, Rye 1h walk away, and Rye harbour a 15 minute drive, there’s a good amount to do in and around the area.||The building itself was well decorated and included many small touches throughout. My ‘cabin room’ was ideal and included everything I needed. I also believe I had a similar issue with the plumbing/drainage as once used the shower there was a lingering smell.||Breakfast and dinner was fab. All the staff that I interacted with were incredibly friendly and helpful. At times did seem a little understaffed and took longer to be attended to. Breakfast and dinner both had two very different styles, breakfast being an incredible spread of everything you could imagine, eggs, cottage cheese, meats, yoghurt etc. Compared to dinner more fine dinning. Would be nice to have the option of a cooked breakfast. | |The yoga on the beach is a great addition to have to the hotel. Great way to connect with other yogis and interact with other guests staying at the hotel.||All in all a great experience for someone wanting a mini getaway :)

A stunning and most stylist seaside escape with beautifully styled rooms, decor and ambience. Harry’s restaurant is a must and the food is locally sourced and lovingly prepared to the highest standards. The location to local Camber sands beach couldn’t be better placed and it is dog friendly too. They offer morning yoga classes which are fantastic and you can even take a picnic to the beach. Check out their regular events for special yoga workshops or simply soak up the atmosphere in the peaceful coastal garden.

This is the third or fourth time I have stayed and my third dinner in the last few weeks and so, clearly you are doing most things right in my view! A couple of perhaps obvious comments: 1. Staff attitude and response is crucial and Oscar was an ideal person to welcome us on this occasion and the staff at dinner and breakfast were all excellent. 2. The table and tray at breakfast is a tad complicated and unnecessarily confusing with for instance muesli on the table and then granola and yogurt on the tray. Also for an establishment of this quality you should offer eggs other than boil your own!

Yelp
Absolutely loved this little bed and breakfast! The rooms were clean and cozy. I enjoyed the staff. The included breakfast was delicious! I really liked that they had games and books to use in the lobby for a rainy day. It was also helpful that they had beach gear to borrow so that you can pack light! Really loved the yoga on the beach.

Yelp
The restaurant proper was closed when I arrived at 5pm but the marquee was open. For essentially a self-serve bbq at the motorway, prices were rather high. The place is very close to the beac but behind the dunes and the road so don't expect any views.

Yelp
Close to the dunes of Camber Sands, The Place at the beach is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit if you are in the area. I took my wife here for her birthday. The food was excellent, I thoroughly recommend the local salt marsh lamb and the fish looked superb. There's a fixed price lunch menu during the week and specials according to stock at the local suppliers. Sunday roasts are a given. Read the reviews on the walls as you make your way to the restrooms. There are rooms if you want to stay and deals on dinner, B&B packages.

Yelp
Quite a nice restaurant, I'd say the prices are a little steep for what you get. The drinks were not cheap either. Very enjoyable outside seating though. Would probably stay in the hotel again but would opt out on the food.

Yelp
We had the best time here. I think the previous reviews here don't quite appreciate that this is essentially a high-end hotel with excellent food that regularly hosts evenings with top chefs. Anyway, we had booked the Dog Lovers Escape: off-season two nights for two people including dogs (beds, toys and bowls were provided) for £250 included an amazing three-course meal, all breakfasts as well as afternoon teas and cake. We thought given the quality of the service, the local and fantastic food (fresh fish and even local wines), the huge room, the bath products and the lounge and dining area with fireplace, games, and lots of cozy sheepskins this was pretty good value for money. The Gallivant also has a self-service larder with cheeky things like marshmallows and old fashioned sweets. A lovely touch. And it is right across from the beach. Given there are dunes there is no direct sea view, but the dunes make the charm of Camber. This beach is not without reason compared to the Hamptons in the US, and it's the dunes that allow for idyllic picnic spots or to watch the sunset. It's the most wonderful beach for humans and dogs, and nearby Rye is a great spot for a bit of vintage shopping and some more food. We'll definitely book another stay soon.
