"Located inside boutique hotel The Gallivant, Harry’s bears all the same hallmarks of discrete seaside elegance. Think comfortable rattan armchairs, tables covered with fine linen and exotic plants giving a greenhouse vibe; guided by a charming team, you will instantly feel at ease here. The cooking is classically French through and through, from traditional terrine to rabbit with mustard sauce via beef Bourguignon – all underpinned by strong produce and textbook technique from an experienced chef." - Michelin Inspector

The Gallivant (Rye, East Sussex) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Beachy chic is a vibe that’s somewhat rare in England, but at the Gallivant, in the East Sussex seaside town of Camber, it’s in plentiful supply. The Gallivant is now a remarkably swanky boutique hotel, complete with a spare cabin that houses a small Bamford spa. And while it’s inspired by an idealized vision of the Hamptons, its interpretation is a unique one, studiously avoiding transatlantic clichés in favor of a look that’s roughly equal parts casual surf shack and stylish country inn." - Tablet Hotels

We chose The Gallivant for our wedding in October and we can honestly say it was the best decision ever. From the moment we first visited, we were made to feel so special and looked after. The hospitality was incredible each time we visited in advance of the wedding day with all the staff making sure we were suitably catered for and helping with everything and anything we needed. What was amazing was that it just felt they were genuinely nice people who wanted us to have a great experience at the hotel, which we thoroughly did! All the run up to the day was efficiently organised by the team - they dealt with everything and had an answer for all queries, no matter what. It felt like such a smooth process with excellent attention to detail. |The wedding day itself just exceeded our expectations. The venue is clearly stunning and the team had created the most friendly and welcoming space for all our guests. The food was devine - all the guests commented on the excellent quality which was a big win! And we loved the breakfast! But it was really all the staff who made the day for us - they could not have done more to help us and our guests and it was all done with smiles and care and I can honestly say all our family and friends were also blown away by The Gallivant and the team there. It's an absolute gem of a place and we can't wait to go back and stay again! Thank you so much Team Gallivant for being your wonderful selves, we will be forever grateful to you!

We had a fantastic time at the Gallivant. It was every bit as good as we'd hoped. The decor was sublime. It managed the beach feel without resorting to cliche'd styling. I've gone home with a few ideas to freshen up our home. We were most impressed with the customer service throughout our stay and particarly Lindsay at front of house. Service was attentive without being overly familiar. When an establishment is this good it can feel a little over-exclusive and "sniffy" but we felt welcome and at ease throughout our stay. A real home from home. I was particularly pleased at the quality of the yoga class. These add-ons can often be mediocre at best but this was a high quality class with an excellent yogi. I only wish I were closer and could come regularly. I don't often write long reviews but you all deserve to hear how happy we were with our visit. Thank you and well done. A wonderful team makes for a wonderful experience.

The theme of The Gallivant runs throughout the whole hotel, starting with the decor, to the staff, to the booking in/out process: Simple, elegant, practical and relaxed. The whole hotel is very relaxing, fresh and colourful. The staff are engaging, efficient and informative. Access to the beach is only 100 metres away, so we went for a walk before Dinner to watch the sunset and again before breakfast, to get woken up !

I found The Gallivant a place that is still trying to decide what it wants to be. On one hand it has the feel of a 'boho' beach retreat, but still takes on corporate bookings, which is what we were. Unfortunately they have ended up neither one nor the other.|I loved the attention to detail and the quirkiness of the decoration, you can feel the love that has been invested into it. My bedroom was very comfortable, although neither the hand basin nor the shower drained properly and I'm not a fan of standing ankle-deep in soapy water.|The food was excellent, great quality and beautifully-presented, so I ate very well. Breakfast was a bit weird because you have to eat what they want you to eat rather than what you want, and the lack of 'fried' breakfast items is just odd. You have to have a set tray of breakfast food, regardless of whether you want it or not. Coffee was very good!|Where I was left disappointed was with the standard of service.|They have a fantastic wine list, not a cheap one, but a very good one. But we were a large group and they hadn't chilled any additional bottles, so again we had to have what they had and not what we actually wanted. It did seem as if someone just hadn't put any thought into what we might want...............and also what they would make money selling. The bar staff didn't seem particularly bothered about this, and that was the pattern of service for the couple days we were there. |Everything seemed to be an inconvenience for them, and despite the fact that we didn't ask for anything out of the ordinary, almost every request seemed to be met with an expression of irritation.|If this were a three-star hotel and we were a stag or hen party, I would be able to get my mind around it. As it was, I just found it very disappointing as we are pretty nice people and weren't asking for anything too much. We just wanted to have an enjoyable time.|I'm afraid I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it either, not for corporate events or for a seaside break.

My son held his wedding at this hotel and it was truly wonderful. We stayed 2 nights and the rooms were perfect - comfortable beds, a lovely door on to a patio and the hotel garden; the bathroom was also perfect (very rare in my experience) - fabulous shampoo, showergel and lotion - a place to hang towels and an excellent shower tho being a short person I would like a lower shower head as well as the top one. The breakfast was incredible and plentiful. All the staff were fantastic and welcoming throughout our whole stay - esp Lindsay and Agnes (who I had a lot to do with sorting a few things out for the wedding) - so calm and helpful and supportive. The food was delicious and the service incredible. I love the games provided and the seating in the lounge/bar area is so comfortable. Plus the thoughtful provision of foot wear and blankets etc for the dunes opposite. All in all a wonderful experience - and for a perfect wedding.

Google
Disappointed. We would not return, in summary we found hotel and restaurant to be overpriced with average food at best and a small room but with kind and friendly staff. The positives: great welcome despite arrival around 11am, lovely staff in all parts. A very good breakfast (the tray plus toast and egg station thing was totally satisfactory, excellent local produce) better than dinner in our opinion. The negatives: 1. Dinner, cooked by the sous chef, the plaice was overcooked so was cotton wool inside, the pork was also overcooked but remained tender and was a pretty miserable portion to my mind. The food and wine list were over priced and the menu less interesting than at the other restaurants we visited. 2. The room was very expensive, over priced and small, (Large Hampton meaning bigger than Cozy Hampton - that is a quote) the blind curtain was a bit short, king size bed just about fitted. The bathroom was small, basic and the decoration tired. To our minds the room decor is uninspired and unwelcoming, unlike the public areas which are nice. I want to be absolutely fair here and demonstrate beyond my opinion regarding price. We were at night 4 of our trip. Our stay at Gallivant was £435 B and B, including £80 (total for 2) towards dinner, so £355 B and B in a Large Hampton, in addittion our extras came to £212 for lunch (1 plate each), 3 cocktails and 2 x 1/2 bottles of lower end wines. £647 total. Please compare Night 1, Hever Castle B and B, Astor wing cost £240. Stunning room, super king bed, great bathroom, views, lounge for residents and barrel vaulted dinning room, great staff. Even had fresh local honeycomb at breakfast. 5* and superior in every way to Gallivant. Dinner Wheatsheaf Pub, cost about £170, fantastic sea bass, crispy skin, perfectly cooked wonderful service. Nights 2 and 3, 2 nights accom in Rye £170/night at Tea House, Large room, super king bed, lovely bathroom in period property. Dinner Landgate Bistro, £183, dinner Number Fifty £112 inc a £35 wine. - this restaurant is really worth an effort to visit, fantastic. Both dinners superior cooking and more interesting than at Harry's and were miles cheaper. I could go on about breakfast cost to complete the picture but go to Fig in Rye for brunch and see for yourselves. Sorry Gallivant and Harry's, having had such high expectations from reviews and recommendations, we felt let down and underwhelmed.

We hired the Gallivant to host our daughter’s wedding. We were not disappointed and nor were the bride and groom. We had 24 hours where the staff were totally at our service and could not do enough for us. The food was delightful, this was echoed by many guests. Meat, fish and vegetarian dishes were served- simultaneously and to perfection. The breakfast is also something special. |My room was perfect and I had a very good nights sleep- although of course the partying may have something to do with that!|There was a truly International guest list and everyone was considered - I shall be back for the fish and chip lunch I noticed on the way out!

Google
had an amazing stay, the level of service was so high, all your staff are wonderful and so helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was incredible. We also enjoyed the cosy bar area for tea and cake, our only criticism was not enough of the white chocolate blondies, they were delicious. Cannot fault anything in the room it was gorgeous and lovely and clean. We also loved that there was a selection of boots, towels and coats for guests to wear to the beach, my only comment would be to make guests more aware of this before they come so they don’t overpack like me. We hope to be back soon. Thank you

Yelp
Absolutely loved this little bed and breakfast! The rooms were clean and cozy. I enjoyed the staff. The included breakfast was delicious! I really liked that they had games and books to use in the lobby for a rainy day. It was also helpful that they had beach gear to borrow so that you can pack light! Really loved the yoga on the beach.

Yelp
The restaurant proper was closed when I arrived at 5pm but the marquee was open. For essentially a self-serve bbq at the motorway, prices were rather high. The place is very close to the beac but behind the dunes and the road so don't expect any views.

Yelp
Close to the dunes of Camber Sands, The Place at the beach is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit if you are in the area. I took my wife here for her birthday. The food was excellent, I thoroughly recommend the local salt marsh lamb and the fish looked superb. There's a fixed price lunch menu during the week and specials according to stock at the local suppliers. Sunday roasts are a given. Read the reviews on the walls as you make your way to the restrooms. There are rooms if you want to stay and deals on dinner, B&B packages.

Yelp
Quite a nice restaurant, I'd say the prices are a little steep for what you get. The drinks were not cheap either. Very enjoyable outside seating though. Would probably stay in the hotel again but would opt out on the food.

Yelp
We had the best time here. I think the previous reviews here don't quite appreciate that this is essentially a high-end hotel with excellent food that regularly hosts evenings with top chefs. Anyway, we had booked the Dog Lovers Escape: off-season two nights for two people including dogs (beds, toys and bowls were provided) for £250 included an amazing three-course meal, all breakfasts as well as afternoon teas and cake. We thought given the quality of the service, the local and fantastic food (fresh fish and even local wines), the huge room, the bath products and the lounge and dining area with fireplace, games, and lots of cozy sheepskins this was pretty good value for money. The Gallivant also has a self-service larder with cheeky things like marshmallows and old fashioned sweets. A lovely touch. And it is right across from the beach. Given there are dunes there is no direct sea view, but the dunes make the charm of Camber. This beach is not without reason compared to the Hamptons in the US, and it's the dunes that allow for idyllic picnic spots or to watch the sunset. It's the most wonderful beach for humans and dogs, and nearby Rye is a great spot for a bit of vintage shopping and some more food. We'll definitely book another stay soon.
