Pine State Biscuits and Life of Pie Pizza Are Making Northwest Expansions This Summer | Eater Portland

"The upcoming George Besaw building at NW 23rd and Savier is a four-story mixed-use development with retail and restaurants on the ground level and 51 apartments above; it was previously home to the iconic Besaw's until the developer ended the lease in 2015, C.E. John argued it would retain the rights to the Besaw's name and initially said it would reopen Besaw's itself, and the developer has now signed leases with Pine State, Life of Pie, and Moberi — choices that might go some way toward generating some goodwill." - Tim Forster

EDIT: Within 24 hours of this review, I was contacted by property management and the entire matter was sorted out thoroughly and promptly. I am changing my review from one star to five star due to the excellent service I received. Thank you to Mikey and AJ for being timely. ORIGINAL MESSAGE: If you have valuables, I don't recommend living here. There are multiple people trying to gain entry to random apartments.

The absolute nicest, most professional, and efficient office. Mikey you are the best. Maintenance staff too! My stay was short and sweet, but from move in to move out and even my own self imposed maintenance issues - everyone is always kind, attentive, and quick to respond. Best experience - I wish I could have made this place home for longer!

I was super skeptical about living downtown especially on such a busy street like NW 23rd. But I’ve been at The George Besaw for almost 4 months now and I’ve never loved where I lived so much! The apartments alone are amazing! Everything is brand new! All the appliances are stainless steel and so nice! Super dog friendly apartment and neighborhood which is a huge bonus! Street parking is a breeze! Also can’t forget to mention how amazing the new management is here! So on top of everything and always gets back to me super quick when I have any questions! But my favorite thing about these apartments is probably all the amazing food so close!! Nothing better than living right above the best pizza in town!

My partner and I have lived here for nine months now and we have LOVED our time at the George Besaw. It truly feels like a home for us now. The location can't be beat, the staff are super helpful and friendly (shoutout Alek!), and the building is always so well-kept. Street parking is rarely an issue for me. It's definitely a great value for the location, but keep in mind the George Besaw doesn't offer many amenities. This helps keep prices a bit lower than other nearby apartments, but is something to consider if you want a gym or pet wash or other amenities.

The George Besaw is finally under new management and they have improved the building incredibly. The staff is super responsive and always in the office if you have any questions. I absolutely love this building. Although there are not many amenities the building makes up for it in quality finishes inside the apartments. Street parking is a breeze and I can almost always find a spot right outside. Highly recommend!

I have lived at The George Besaw for almost 2 years and it's been great! The new management is amazing; you can tell they really care for the residents and are always super responsive! The location is perfect being so close to restaurants, bars, workout studios, and public transportation. They also have parking spots available which I have really enjoyed (and my friends never have a hard time finding street parking). I love it here!

Since the building changed owners and Avenue 5 began managing the George Besaw things have improved immensely. The building is clean and quiet. The staff is friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is a historical gem with so much to offer just out the front door. We love living here.

Update: New management. They're friendly and helpful. They've done their best to address my concerns. Property is beautiful, apartments are high quality, location is everything I could have wanted. But the building is wood framed, not cement. So you can hear your neighbors if they are not mindful of the units around them when walking, playing music, etc. This being a problem entirely depends on who you end up with as a neighbor. Some of us care, some don't. For most of mine, although it took a couple of tries, they've kindly adjusted habits to keep noise levels down. Aside from that, its a good place.
