A Weekend Vacation Guide to Portland’s Central Eastside | Eater Portland

"I checked The Get Down's calendar for local and touring acts and dance-oriented nights—it's a good place to catch emerging artists and themed events." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

This venue treated us about as good as we could ever possibly hope for, and were phenomenally helpful in pulling off a memorial concert by my band (and many guests). The sound quality was sensational, which extended to the custom mix The Get Down’s engineer recorded for us as well. Noah did such a fantastic job that we can use it for a live album without any adjustments necessary. The whole staff was enormously kind and patient with us. Would absolutely return to host more events here, or even just to hear other bands. One of the best venues in town.

The get down is my new fave venue! This place is immaculate: so clean, no sticky floors, the bar top was perfectly organized. Upon arrival and entry the security felt thorough but not invasive. The staff is professional and kind. Walking into a basement venue has never been a more pleasant experience. No smoking or vaping in the building is allowed so you don't have to worry about any of that, which I found to be very considerate. Their bar was truly pristine. Bartenders were incredibly nice and efficient. I appreciate the reasonable prices and complimentary sparkling water refills. All the drinks were pre mixed in the kegerator so the bar line went super fast. Everything smelled good and the AC was flowing. The space is a great size and the layout was excellent for stage view from every angle. The location is clutch, it's walking distance to an excellent variety of bars and restaurants with well lit streets. The Get Down has is dialed in to give you the best concert experience around. I highly recommend this place and their team.

Amazing venue with great vibes! I was here recently to watch The Narcissist Cookbook and Bug Hunter live, and enjoyed it a lot. All of the employees were very friendly and willing to help. I wanted to shout out two employees specifically; one is Connor, the other, I never got their name. They were security maybe; tall, dark hair. (He helped me find a place to charge my phone, and put in extra effort to figure out why the outlet wasn't working at first.) Connor, the bartender, was lovely and absolutely patient. I had the harebrained idea to get one of the performers a couple of chocolate bars. But I forgot to write a note with them. After some searching the venue, I asked Connor who immediately provided me a pen and a slip of paper. Later, he found me a rubber band to put everything together without me even asking; just noticed I was having trouble and took action. Plus, he makes some killer drinks, and is fantastic at giving drink recommendations! Overall, wonderful experience. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the venue didn't fill out the necessary paperwork for an all ages show, and the musicians - and as such the fans - didn't find out until fairly last minute the night before. To their credit, the owner promised to refund tickets and said they would try their best to aid anyone who had unrefundable travel expenses; it was a mistake but a costly one.

Google
This venue is great! I was really impressed by the size of bother the bar area and the dance floor / stage area. I saw LAERZ and Mitch Please, I thought both sets were great including the lighting. I also heard the artists raving to eachother about the sound guy after the show and how great he was and easy to work with. Overall a great venue with high ceilings and great design!

Google
Attended my first show at the get down. It's an interesting space. It reminds me of the Good foot. Only a little less dark and dank. There's more space to watch the band. The sound was good. Getting service at the bar was efficient. Bartender was friendly.

I went with a friend to see Nate Smith perform. Great show. Sound was fantastic. sound volume was not too loud, which to me is the downfall of many clubs. Long line at the front door. Thorough security check, which I appreciate. Interior is modern, spacious, minimal furnishing, so it is a standing event for the majority of the attendees. Easy access to the bar, bartenders were nice, drinks reasonably priced. Bathrooms clean and just like the whole place, they looked recently renovated. I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

Google
Nice size venue for personal space, but intimate enough to feel like you are close to the artist performing. Room sound with a full band was good.

Google
Nice concert place with bar area and seating area. There are also seats above the dance floor stage right. Good decor and lights.

Yelp
Venue is OK, nothing special. Seemed clean and in good repair. Decor is fine; it kinda felt like an old roller rink that had been converted into a club. It was also hot with little ventilation. The mass of sweaty bodies created quite a stench. No seating in main venue for concert we attended, similar to the Crystal's setup. Bathrooms are all shared with no privacy for real women. I don't relish sharing a bathroom with giant gaps in the stalls with men. I did not consent to surrendering my privacy and exposing myself to creepy eyes when I simply needed to use the facilities. I won't return to this venue in the future. Overall not recommended.

Yelp
I had a great time seeing Cut Chemist & DJ Shadow at this venue. It's a smaller to midsize space, lending to an intimate vibe with plenty of ideal spaces for viewing the stage(s). They provide a water station and glizzys in addition to the full bar area. The lines were pretty confusing, they would benefit from a partitioned maze for efficiency. The sounds was amazing and decor was pretty wild. I would definitely return for another show, but I'm not sure how it could beat this epic lineup!

Yelp
I love this venue! It is just the right size for a concert, not a bad view in the whole place. The drinks were priced well and delicious. The location is great too. There are many food/bar options close by for pre gaming.

Yelp
I really like this spot! I've been a few times and had a fab time dancing my fanny off each time. The bartenders are some of the friendliest I've encountered in PDX, though as a whole they're very heavy- handed with the ice. Heads up: the restrooms are all-gender, which is NBD. However! One of them has a combo of closed door stalls AND open urinals, which is a bit awkward for those of us who have to sit to pee.

Yelp
This is a well run venue. The drink lines move fast and they usually have a pretty good music lineup. There's a lot of room for dancing and it's a good place to get down. It really lives up to its name.

Yelp
I came for a final fantasy themed drag night which was super awesome and i loved all the performers except during the intermission one of the gogo dancers (white blond guy) took out his genitals and started imitating self pleasuring himself on stage. I was really disgusted as i had not consented to be subjected to that kind of nudity. It felt like it was some sort of exhibition kink and i felt really yucky to have been forced to be part of that. Ive been to many a drag show and just nightclubs in general and that had NEVER happened before. There really needs to be some sort of investigation or something as all of my friends including myself were really traumatized by it

Yelp
Good venue. We went to see kokoroko and the crowd was good, the music was awesome and the drinks were fairly priced.

Yelp
Portland could use another music venue. This is in the basement of the former Melody Ballroom of old. It has a large dance floor, a small stage, OK bathrooms, a coat check, a water fountain and a good sound system. That room is all standing. Adjacent to the dance floor is another room with the bar, a few tables and chairs, and an upholstered bench seat along the wall. Some of the adjacent hallways are quiet enough for conversation. It is a relatively large space at 400, but it does not seem crowded at capacity, which is good compared to some other venues. The return of 1980's graphics is an interesting choice. Staff was fine, relaxed, and professional.

Yelp
This place had a very nice set up with all the lights, decor, and bar. They had a area for tables, coat check, and gender neutral bathrooms that were easy to locate. Overall, staff was great and drinks were solid.

Yelp
If zero stars was an option, that what I would've chose. Was in Portland visiting family this weekend, when we decided to go to this new joint that was going to have one of my favorite artists performing. Who I didn't even feel comfortable waiting to see... We were having a good time when we noticed a biracial queer couple that looked like they were having a great time, dancing... we're escorted out by the security. I was genuinely confused because I did not see or notice anything they could've done wrong. Fortunately, for myself and my family and friends that live in Portland, we will never go here again.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and Devore, plenty of bar tenders. While it was hard to find on maps, once I found it I did not regret it. Great floor dance space with quality sound and good lights. Separate bar area with plenty of places to hang and couches to sit in. Separate pool room with more quality seating. Great co-Ed bathrooms and friendly staff... And on top of that quality live music!

Yelp
Do not go here if you're queer or a person of color. Me and my girlfriend went here last night for a show, had literally 2 beers, and were dancing on the dance floor like everyone else. When we walked over to the bathroom, a white female security guard told us we were "too intoxicated" and were getting kicked out. We were shocked and confused and asked her for a better explanation but she couldn't give us one. We were very coherent and were expressing ourselves clearly. She was very rude and unprofessional and unkind to us. Our gay and interracial relationship clearly made her uncomfortable enough to find any reason to kick us out. Do not go here and do not support this racist and homophonic venue. If you are a person of color or queer, you will not be welcomed here.

Yelp
The venue is super pretty and the vibe is so good! A friend and I went and saw Sa-Roc who was AMAZING! Drinks ranged from $8-$15 for the most part! Overall, 10/10 one of my favorite venues I've been too!

Yelp
Great drinks and a good sized dance floor. Owner, Blake, is very nice and takes good care of his customers. It has a cool vibe. Went to see New Constellations and had a blast!!!
