Nestled in Takoma Park, this charming family-friendly spot combines a deli, market, and wine bar with tasty sandwiches, vibrant wines, and a cozy patio vibe.
"The Girl and the Vine took over the old Capital City Cheesecake space, transforming it to a retail wine venue that features more than 100 organic wines and small production craft beers. They have menus for breakfast and brunch but serve sandwiches, salads, and snacks until as late as 10 p.m. Like many other venues in Takoma Park that strive to bring the community together, The Girl and the Vine hosts ongoing wine and beer tastings." - Claudia Rosenbaum
"Takoma Park’s adorable cafe and wine shop counts the “Chip-wich” hoagie as one of its most popular orders since day one. The sandwich hides house kettle chips inside for a surprise crunch in every bite, joined by smoked turkey, smashed avocado, pepper jack cheese, bacon, sprouts, and dijonnaise." - Tierney Plumb, Missy Frederick
"Takoma Park’s new deli and wine shop just replaced its Irish coffee with an icy International Coffee ($11) cocktail, featuring cognac, house made creme de cacao, Braulio amaro, and a splash of milk and soda. “Think the old school International House of Coffee flavored coffee with booze,” co-owner Jocelyne DeHaas tells Eater." - Tierney Plumb
"The owners of the Girl & The Vine, the new cafe, wine store, and deli in Takoma Park, were betting the family-friendly neighborhood would demand huge hunks of cheese. They were right." - Tierney Plumb
"The Girl & The Vine opened with limited hours in Takoma Park this week, bringing the family-friendly neighborhood a sleek new spot to sample sandwiches, cheese, and charcuterie boards to go with wines and cocktails. The new two-level cafe and retail store comes from Jocelyne DeHaas and her husband, David Fritzler. The alums of Ellē, Eater D.C.’s 2018 Restaurant of the Year, and Tryst Trading Co. have teamed up with chef Rob Theriot (formerly at the Coupe) at the 2,800-square-foot venue. Today marks the first day of regular hours. The morning-to-night operation is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and closes at 11 p.m. on weekends. It’s closed on Tuesdays. The upstairs cafe and bar serves sandwiches such as a chicken schnitzel BLT, a turkey “Chip-wich” with avocado, and a veggie Green Surfer on multigrain ($10-$11). The wine and retail area is housed on the first floor. There’s seating for 45, along with 12 on the patio." - Tierney Plumb
