How to Properly Taste Scotch Whisky

"In 2008, Glenmorangie released the Astar, a limited-edition single malt whisky entirely matured in oak casks from the Ozark mountains of Missouri. McCarron was a fan of the original and longed to revisit the single malt’s unique character." - Rachel Tan

How to Properly Taste Scotch Whisky

"Glenmorangie’s Brendan McCarron shares his tasting techniques over a glass of the limited-edition Glenmorangie Astar 2017. The Astar uses designer first fill casks. Even the Glenmorangie Original only uses the casks twice, other whiskies might use them up to six times. So, the Astar is like the Original on steroids, a pumped-up version of the Original." - Rachel Tan

Lovely whisky… we booked the innovation tour that included sampling 18y, 16y and Signet… our guide was very young… I am sorry, but to spark and transmit the love for whisky you need a certain maturity. I understand these are student jobs but would prefer for the non-standard tours a more seasoned guide. We had to ask for the drivers package, which should be offered actively in a 0 tolerance country. So, overall summary. Great whisky but tour could be improved.

Had a lovely day out at Glenmorangie distillery today. The tour started somewhat slow-ish as the tour guide seemed a but unenthusiastic but got better as the tour went on. The steel room was definitely my favourite. The distillery experience overall was amazing and would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

No distillery tour, but Glenmorangie's whiskys were worth the travel! The friendly bartender made us new fans. A must-taste, even without the full experience.

The guided tour was amazing, we could see the distillery from inside out and all our questions were answered by the guide. The distillery also has a museum, shop, and a bar in case you didn't book the tour. We also booked a tasting with chocolate pairing as part of our tour. highly recommended!

Angus was a fantastic host - amazing experience! I suggest booking a tour with the tasting experience - makes it extra special!

A distillery with a difference. The tour was informative and during it, we discovered that they have a different approach to production than most other Whisky distilleries in Scotland. Very tall stills, use of botanicals, the financial support for oak forests for the barrels and being just three. Nice to hear that they are going back to age statements on many of their releases while other distilleries are moving in the opposite direction.

Tours were unfortunately all full, apparently because of a cruise ship which just came in, so best to book in advance. But the grounds are open to visit, and the impressive stills and "lighthouse" can be seen from the outside. Shop is nicely themed, with tastings available and friendly staff.

Amazing tour — informative and engaging. Zoe was an entertaining and lively tour guide. Tasting was fun as well. The lunch from Surf & Turf was delicious. We arrived a wee bit early, so we had a look around the grounds and went down to the shoreline behind the distillery — very pretty. We visited in early May and booked a day or two in advance online. We noticed they were fully booked for the day when we arrived.

Yelp
What a treat to get to tour the distillery of my favorite Scotch! I really appreciated getting to learn the intricate details about how the whisky is crafted. Just be aware, there are no cell phone or camera photos allowed on the tour inside the distillery for safety reasons. After the tour, you get to sample some of the whisky's as well. They will even bottle up the samples for people who are driving so you enjoy it safely at home.

Yelp
We stopped in at Glenmorangire Distillery on our visit to Scotland. They have a nice presentation on the facility and it makes an enjoyable visit.

Yelp
I visited Glenmorangie during a trip to the UK in July 2018 because it was a bucket list item of mine to visit a Scotch distillery for Scotch that I liked. Because of the drive from Wales (plus MANY stops), we ended up getting to the distillery 45 minutes before close and after the last tour had departed. We ran into Aiden at the end of one of the tours, and he was amazing to let us join the tour. He was absolutely, beyond-all-expectations amazing to take my wife and I on a private tour and gave us an additional private tasting. Because of Aiden, this trip was more than worth it, and truly lived up to my bucket list expectations!!!! This truly was one of the best experiences of my life, and could not give a higher recommendation. Thank you, Aiden!
