"Highlands, Scotland: While Glenturret still handcrafts their malt whisky as they did more than two centuries ago, using the only remaining hand operated mash tun in Scotland, the experience you’ll have at this legendary distillery is a bit more modern. The first Scotch whisky distillery to launch a fine-dining restaurant—with French crystal house Lalique, no less—visitors can wrap up their tour with luxurious afternoon tea, a multi-course tasting menu, or a whisky tasting flight at the bar."

Visiting the Glenturret Distillery was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Scotland. We did the Whisky Maker’s experience tour with John (and one of the cats, Turret) and had the best time with him! We learned so much about whisky, the history of the distillery, and left with unique souvenirs. We could not rave about John and his hospitality enough. He really made this tour and our trip extremely special. Karen in the gift shop was lovely as well. The next time we’re in Scotland, we will certainly be back to visit this distillery and the restaurant!

An impromptu visit to the distillery, we were in the area and needed something to do on a cold Monday afternoon...it turned out to be the highlight of the day! We ended up on a fabulous tour with Stuart, a man that is clearly passionate about his work, the company and product. All the staff we encountered on the day were great to be fair (including the cats). I ended up buying a bottle of wine and got a couple of drams to take away with me as I was the driver on the day. Highly recommend this tour.

Fun tour around the working distillery (it will actually be working on a weekday, a bit less on a weekend). Informative helpful guide. (Thanks Karen!) Who could answer all your questions outside of those requiring a bio thermal dynamics engineering degree. Absolutely worth taking up the offer of the additional flight after the tour. You get to try some serious good whisky in the FANCY AF lalique glasses upstairs in the swanky bar area. Really informative and you get to try some good stuff. If you're driving they will give you tastings in a bottle to take home with you. Cafe and shop both nice and pretty reasonable. Didn't try the restaurant but it was very popular on the visit. Worth a visit! Good scotch whisky, nicely peated and a fun informative tour. Also Glen and Turret are cute little furry guides.

My wife and I went on the distillery tour hosted by John. Was a fantastic experience. John was really knowledgeable and so personable. It felt like he was giving us a tour of his home. Well worth a visit. The whiskey was also fantastic and we didn't escape the gift shop without some souvenirs. I didn't realize that the distillery was so interwoven with Lalique (who are 50% owners of Glenturret) I think they show reward John with a lalique cain. We also had lunch in the restaurant which was amazing and a great way to experience all the glass wear before walking through that gift shop too

Google
It is a lovely distillery with a mix of old and new. Good size car park and the tour was £18. The tour guide was very informative, and you learned about the distilleries whisky making process. You get one nip of triple wood whisky but would be good if you got to try a couple more like other distilleries do. Nice shop but was hoping for some distillery limited bottling. Nice cafe, has a Michelin star restaurant and a whisky bar.

The distillery is the oldest licensed in Scotland so far, and documents were traced back to 1763. It is a rather small distillery by size with very traditional almost not modernised equipment and belongs to the French company Lalique. The distillery tours are good and can be recommended. There is a very nice gift shop, which is selling not only whisky but also French wines and lots of expensive glassware from Lalique. The bar and two-star Michelin restaurant are excellent with top service and big choice of whiskies. The Glenturret single malt whisky is quite expensive in comparison to the same age Highland single malts. The character of the Glenturret 12yo is typical Highland single malt style. It is complicated, smooth, full body, vanilla, and sweet dried fruits with notes of chocolate at the end.

Great tour on Sunday by Andrew. Fantastic knowledge and happy to answer all our questions. Learned so much about the production of whiskey. Really thoughtful to give the ‘drivers’ their shots of whiskey to have later.

Yelp
This is an easy day trip out of Edinburgh and 100% worth the visit. The scotch is fantastic and priced pretty well. The staff on the tour and in the tasting room were some of the nicest and most helpful of the 15 distilleries that we went to during a two week trip to Scotland specifically for distillery tours. The restaurant is on another level. It has a Michelin star and it is well deserved. You will need reservations. It is not cheap. It is worth it. If you're driving a van or an RV around Scotland, they let you camp in their parking lot, which is incredibly scenic next to the river whose waters they pull in to the distillery to cool the stills when they are running. The sounds of the Russian water will blow you to sleep. It may have been the excellent scotch that helped as well.

Yelp
This was our third distillery stop during our two-week adventure in Scotland, and we were excited to visit since our friends, who live just minutes away, had never been. We decided to check it out together and make a day of it! While the initial welcome was a bit lackluster--maybe it was the late afternoon and everyone was winding down--the setting was still enjoyable. My husband ordered a flight of their top three whiskies, and as a fan of the smoky flavors, he was definitely pleased. We were surprised to learn that the restaurant has two Michelin stars! We only had coffee, tea, pastries, and whiskey this time, but it's definitely a spot we'd consider for a full meal on a future visit. A lovely little outing with good company!

Yelp
Interesting experience. I have been through MANY distilleries and this is the ONLY one that prohibits any photography. VERY ODD. They explained that it is because the Carbon Dioxide produced from the distilling process would explode from a spark caused by the camera. CO2 is not flammable. Oh well, moving on. Caroline was our guide and seemed to know the stuff they taught her, yet gave odd answers to things she didn't seem to know; such as how thick is the copper in the still, how much peat do they use, what kind of barrels do they use. To me it felt like she was forcing herself to interact with us and really didn't care we were there. The tour was fairly fast as it is a small distillery. The sales floor is impressive and I am sure they sell a lot. I bought some because my supplier at home cant get it. The 3 wood varietal was good for the price. They don't bottle there and no idea where their rickhouse (or whatever they call it in Scotland) is. I am not actually convinced they actually make product here. Seems more like a showroom than a distillery. They charge on average $90 for a bottle of whiskey. They are owned by Lalique which makes "luxury" glass. At the beginning of the tour they said that empty bottles sell online for $60. That means the real value of their whiskey is only about $30 Would not recommend you visit here, especially if you have to pay for the tour.

Yelp
We were staying in Perth and asked the B&B owner what distilleries we could go to that were close and he recommended the Famous Grouse Experience at the Glenturret Distillery. It was a weekday and when we arrived late morning we ended up being the only people there. Our tour guide was still very gracious in giving us a private tour! He was in his early 20s and some of the scripted things he had to say he begrudgingly did which was hilarious. I think the fact that he acknowledged some of the cheesiness of the tour just made it better. Besides the informative private tour, the grounds were nice and well-kept and the location was scenic. It was also fun to take pictures with the very large bottle of the Famous Grouse, which apparently Glenturret won a Guinness World Record for producing the world's largest bottle of whiskey. I am not a huge whiskey person but being that I live in the United States our whiskey is much different than this type of malt whiskey produced here. Only about an hour from where I live is where Jack Daniels is made so I only have that perspective and have never heard about Scottish whiskey until my visit. We enjoyed our visit and it was worth the 40 minute detour from Perth to come visit. I'm not sure I'd recommend driving more than that to come here if it's out of your way of travels. Overall a good experience!

Yelp
We had an amazing tour with Don as our tour guide. Very informative tour that was filled with knowledge and laughter. The whiskey tasting was great too. Highly recommend this tour when in the area.

Yelp
Great wee distillery and a really informative, entertaining tour. Particularly enjoyed the high level of focus given on the distillery cats: Glen and Turret (& their predecessor, super-mouser Towser). Standard tasting at the end, with some good tips on how to taste a whisky (& takeaway pots for the drivers!).

Yelp
This is the third (and final) distillery we're going on during our week in Scotland. The tour was incredibly corporate with very little room for the guide to stray from her talking points. The group size was large which played into this. For ten pounds we had an hour long tour through the facilities (a lot of which wasn't currently being used which differed from our last two distilleries). We were given a lot of misinformation delivered as fact (high alcohol content causing blindness, and misinformation on removing toxins, or that if you don't turn your cell phone off the battery will make the distillery explode). At the end we received two samples with some absurd whiskey tasting tips. The overall tour was similar to our tour at Glengassagh just with a lot less personalization and a lot more rote memorization from the guide. We wouldn't go on this tour again and will definitely stick to smaller operations in the future (plug for Knockdhu here).

Yelp
A great afternoon out. The guide was knowledgeable and personable and I learnt a great deal about the process of whisky making. All details were thought about and the preparation for a Covid-secure site was thorough and made us feel safe.

Yelp
Crieff is a great town to visit in the low-highlands ( You would be amazed how many places claim to be the gateway to the highlands or boast some other geographic fact as being the inspired planning of whatever tourist planning committee last had a go at putting a sign up. That being said anyone with an interest in whisky, if you don't have I can't fathom why the hell you'd be in Scotland;), would likely want to visit the countries oldest distillery which distills one of the whiskys that goes into the blended Famous Grouse. There are several tours with one to suit those with a casual interest at 30 mins tour, more in depth presentations of an hour and 75 mins are their all with a corresponding price increase but you get more chances to sample to goods:) Our tour guide was clear, could answer questions and the information given wasn't dry. While they obviously talk up their own item it's not as invasive as some tours I've been on.E.G., you learn more about whisky rather than just their own brand. There's a restaurant on site as well as a shop with enough Famous Grouse memorabilia to exceed the tax free part of the Sadly the pathetic 1 litre per adult limit for alcohol at the airport rather cramps your style in AZ. In addition there's a kids play area and trails through the countryside nearby for those that may not want to take the tour.

Yelp
Dumbed-down though not unpleasant visitors' experience at The Famous Grouse. If you always wanted to visit an authentic Scottish whisky distillery, do not make it the Glenturret Distillery, famous for its part of creating The Famous Grouse (a moderately inexpensive blended whisky that includes several single malts as well as grain whiskies). This is The Famous Grouse Experience, after all - except, truth be told, it is not much of an experience. Everything here caters to the casual whisky fan, not to anyone seriously interested in how whisky is, specifically, being made. If you're one of former, fine: Then this is perfectly adequate. But as a serious-minded whisky lover I was let down. I learned nothing here that I didn't know previously. Sure, if you have visited various breweries and/or distilleries, the process itself doesn't vary a lot between the individual makers. But still, there should be some distinguishing elements. Here, there were none. And you couldn't even take photos inside - allegedly because of the danger of an explosion. Yeah, right. With non-flash digital photography that's a risk I'd be willing to take. ;) Granted, the distillery is rather nice-looking from outside, and it's located in a really wonderful wooded area in Scotland. A shop and a restaurant contribute to the "visitors' experience". Is it worth visiting if you have to drive a hundred miles to get there? Absolutely not. Is it okay if you're just doing a day tour on a tourist coach and it's just one stop on the way? Absolutely.

Yelp
We had an amazing trip to Glen Turret distillery. Amongst the beauty of Crieff, you arrive into a wee haven in the trees with the sound of the rushing river...and then you have the distillery! The distillery tour was excellent and a bargain for the price. We learned all about the making of the whisky (all still by hand) and the methods used. It was fascinating. We then got to try some whisky whilst learning about how to examine and smell it properly. We had enjoyed the experience so much, we asked if we could also do the warehouse experience where we went into the traditional warehouse and got to try 4 whiskies including the 10yo, peated, 30 yo and limited Grace Gow. The interior and granite fountain adds a wonderful touch to the experience. We ate lunch in the cafe (the restaurant is currently being refubished) and the food was delicious. I highly recommend the soup. I wish I could have taken a pot home! We then headed to the shop for our dream dram experience where our drams were waiting along with our whisky glasses to take home. We tried the Benromach - supporting other distilleries (great to see) before making the hard selection of which good whisky to buy. All advised byt he wonderful staff. If all this wasn't enough of a great experience, I cannot say enough thanks and gratitude to all of the staff we encountered from reception/booking, the distillery tour, the warehouse experience, the cafe, and the shop. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were met with the utmost professionalism, friendliness, passion, humour, and kindness. It was my father's birthday and they went over and above to welcome him and celebrate his day. We left Glen Turret buzzing with excitement and warmth not just from the delicious whisky, but overwhelmed by the kindness from the staff. I highly recommend Glen Turret distillery!

Yelp
Went on a tour at the Glenturret Distillery last week to see how the national drink of Scotland is made. The tour is exactly what you would expect of a liquor tour; they show you how barley and water are used to make Scotch at the end you get a tasting. My favorite part of the tour was the virtual tour of Scotland where they showed you were all the ingredients are picked from and how they get to Glenturret. They also show several Famous Grouse commercials at the same time which is something that I hadn't seen before. As part of our tour we were able to taste different single malts to see how they are blended together not sure if that is part of the standard tour but it should be. They have a little cafeteria upstairs and the group I was with even ate there. It seems like it is more cafeteria style but we had a sit down meal. I thought the food was very good for a distillery. Scotland is full of distilleries. My advice would be to pick one, hopefully your favorite and go visit it. There is no need to visit multiple distilleries. If you are a scotch novice, Glenturret is as good as any to pick. You will have a great time and learn a considerable amount about Scotch.

Yelp
The visit of the Glenturret Distillery was part of the Rabbies' guided tour I joined. (booked with some British Airways's Avios) The guide (staff from the distillery) explained the process and all very well, and offered a tasting. There are plenty of bottles and souvenirs to buy at their shop, at the end of the visit.

Tara W.

Yelp
Glenturret Distillery is home to The Famous Grouse experience. Onsite they make Glenturret whiskey, one of many which is blended in the Famous Grouse. For £10 my husband and I enjoyed a tour of the small traditionally run distillery where we learned about the process and were able to sample several blends and single malts. We drove up from Glasgow to Crieff for the visit- the distillery was very easy to find, set in a picturesque location. We enjoyed the trip and would recommend it to others!

Yelp
This is the oldest distillery in Scotland, and the Famous Grouse brand is made here, although now owned by an international conglomorate. Tours are available daily and even if you don't socialise with John Barleycorn, it is well worth a visit. I was lucky enough to be on a tour guided by employee Alistair, who is an asset to the company with his knowledge, and customer care abilities. he took us through the whole process of whisky making, making it a fascinating and enjoyable experience. At the end there is a lovely coffee shop, where you can have a meal or just a coffee/scone at very reasonable prices (try the soup!). Then of course there is the gift shop, and as often as not another free sample will be on offer - taste & try before you buy!, you are sure to find something for the whisky lover in your life.

Yelp
This is one of Perthshires 5* Tourist Attractions. The distillery is located just outside of Crieff and you know that you have arrived when you are greeted by an 8ft Grouse. Glenturret is the oldest distillery in Scotland and during the tour you will find out how the Glenturret single malt is made. The distillery has been the House of Grouse for a few years and this is evident by the branding however this does not in any way detract from the experience in fact having visited the distillery both before Grouse and after I would say that is enhances the experience. The Tour is on the expensive side however the price is comparable with other distilleries. The tour itself is excellent with an amazing audio visual show and of course the tasting. Who knew that you could smell chocolate and coffee from whisky!! The distillery shop is a good source for gifts for both yourself and others, whilst the restaurant offers welcome refreshments. In addition the restaurant offers speciality evening and party nights at selected times through the year. This is well worth a visit and I would make the trip especially to Crieff for this, although I am sure that you will find other things to visit when in Crieff.

Yelp
Great little distillery in Scotland. We visited on a Thursday morning with a full group of about 15. Out tour guide had only been there for two weeks but he knew his stuff, was very personable and did a wonderful job telling the story of the distillery and how whiskey is made there. I learned a lot! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone nearby and wanting a small intimate experience and learning about whiskey making.

Andre W.

Yelp
Hmmm whiskey.... Or should I say scotch. This distillery is dope, pretty small but it was a nice tour to go through. It shows you the whole process and you get to choose between three different choices of whiskey at the end; famous grouse, snow grouse, and black grouse. It's a nice little tour out in the middle of nowhere so very nice scenery as well.

Jonathan G.

Yelp
While we weren't in time to take a tour, we visited their shop. Once the shop staff cleared a huge gaggle from a tour bus, they kindly turned their attention to us and offered us a tasting and provided us an overview of their history and bottlings. They included a tasting of their bottle your own cask and we ended up buying a bottle to take home. They also offer the option to purchase a custom personalized labeled bottle of Famous Grouse. Staff were extremely pleasant and polite despite it being the end of their work day and despite having to deal with mass bus loads of tourists throughout the day! Well done!
