Best Wings in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"Consistently hot, fresh, and tasty — the wings at the Goat are as explanatory as its bar’s name. Their lemon pepper and Parmesan wings are a standout alongside its namesake wings prepared with a fiery homemade hot sauce." - Ernest Owens

Very pleased with everything we ordered. I'd be happy with the fries alone, but the smash burger they came with was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The autumn calamari was genius. I'd eat it every day if someone dropped it off at my door. 😁 Good beer selection. Nice bar atmosphere. 2 TVs if you want to watch sports.

The Goat's Beard is a restaurant that specializes in new American cuisine, craft beer, and whiskey. This location can be found on N Wayne Ave. in Wayne PA. This was my first time dining in Wayne, so I'm glad it was a memorable one. Service was good and the food was delicious. My friend and I shared the coconut calamari, TGB nuggets, and the steak mac & cheese. The calamari comes with all rings, no tentacles, and topped with jalapeño, red bell pepper, scallions, cashews, and coconut sweet Thai chili crunch. So unique, so good! The TGB nuggets are made with free range chicken, buttermilk brined, and then topped with blue cheese crumbles. The chicken was light, tender, and packed with flavor. The steak mac & cheese is made with grass fed sirloin, gnocchi, 3 cheese béchamel, pretzels crumbs, and steak jus. I would prefer a different type of pasta for this dish, but it was still enjoyable. TGB has indoor and outdoor seating. Pickup and delivery are both available.

Google
First time eating here. I would come and give it a second chance. It took some time for our server to come to our table and also bring some water. Soft drinks are not on the menu and weren’t mentioned to us. The food came out on the cooler side. Over heard the servers saying our food was just sitting in the kitchen for a while. Our primary drink was our water and we were not asked if we needed a refill despite the glass being empty. Although the food was not hot, it was delicious. I would like to give it a second chance because I wanted to like the experience but the forest impression was a let down.

Google
The new menu is awesome. Best the food has been any time I’ve gone here. We really enjoyed the peach burrata toast, calamari and smash burger. The pickles were big on the burger which I really liked. They also make their own ice cream and the matcha ice cream is AWESOME! The chef came out to bring our food to us and he was very friendly and obviously really excited about the new menu. Service was great too and they have an excellent drink menu. Overall, great experience!

Google
Our second visit here for lunch. The pizza is the best thick crust I have had in a long time. The Ricotta cheese dollop makes it great! The chicken sandwich was good in flavor but not very moist and kept falling out of sandwich. Would definitely return.

Google
As always I’m looking for that privately owned establishment that understands food. They knocked it out of the park. Food and beer worked perfectly together and made for an excellent experience. I had the salmon on a bed of roots and summer squash. Each bite was better than the last and The Goat’s Beard Alpha Acid Trip was the perfect complement. You should stop by, your time and money will be well spent. It’s not even that much money considering the quality.

Google
Great night out for dinner with my daughters. We were early but seated immediately. I got a great recommendation from out waitress. My steak was cooked and presented perfectly. Parking was a little tricky but not terrible. Planning to return in the near future.

Google
The Detroit style pizza, oh my god. Perfectly executed and you can taste the quality in the ingredients. Every neighborhood deserves to have a goats beard but manayunk got really lucky! You can really choose your experience here which is amazing. It can be perfect for an occasion like an anniversary all the way to a casual (but delicious) burger for a Friday lunch. Staff is so warm and welcoming from the door to table side. Always my manayunk go to!

Yelp
Stopped in for a dinner with my kids. It looked like they had some great options so we stopped in. We were greeted right away and had the luck to sit on the patio. It was great weather out so ti was really enjoyable. Paige was our server for the evening and she was fantastic and super friendly. They had a drink special with their home made limoncello, but it came with coconut and I am not a fan of coconut so she was able to get me a limoncello spritzer which was AMAZING!! My youngest had the burrata and she said it was delicious and enjoyed it a lot. My oldest had mussels and she said it was a little spicy, but she felt the mussels were cooked well and very enjoyable. I had the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp and it was delicious with lots of cheese (my favorite). It was a great dinner and very enjoyable. Be sure to stop by when in the area.

Yelp
This restaurant is warm and welcoming with great food, a nice beer and wine and cocktail menu and just a really nice vibe. We had the Detroit Pizza for dinner, the pickle pizza to be specific and it was amazing. First time eating a pickle pizza and it was delicious. The service was excellent too. Loved the bathroom signage as well.

Debbie L.

Yelp
Once our server realized she had a table waiting, she apologized and took our order. It took quite a while to get the food, and the drink that was ordered did not come as ordered. Server took it back to the bar get the right drink, and the correct drink did not come until we were more than halfway through our meal. It's a noisy place! With all of that said, the food was great and we would go back.

Yelp
We stopped in at the goats beard on their patio for a lovely dinner. A local small business in the Philly area. Swerving up all your favorites and Detroit style pizza. The pizza was delicious we got the smoke show which is their version of the meat lovers. The hummus platter is a great appetizer served with bread, veggies, and pita chips. Their ceaser salad is big enough to share and could be a meal in of itself. Service was great and an excellent patio stop in downtown Wayne.

Yelp
Dropped into this little spot on a Friday evening. We had a reservation so the wait was about 15 minutes. We ordered the pickel pizza and the og pizza. They were incredible. I think about them often. We had a couple other apps and a a few drinks. This place is small and gets packed but the service is fast and the crowd is friendly.

Yelp
We came for happy hour on a Thursday. The burger and fries are only $10 and it was so tasty! Well seasoned and juicy without being greasy. Fries were great too. I also got a two glasses of white sangria for $7. Only down side we were sat at a table that was booked for a reservation so after our second drink was dropped off we were asked to move which I think it would have been appropriate to comp those drinks for us. The only space available standing area by the door as the bar was full or outside but it was about 43 degrees. We had only been there about 50 minutes so this was a mistake on staff for seating.

Yelp
Such a cute spot! We sat outside and enjoyed downtown Wayne. Came with a big group and everyone enjoyed their food. I got the pickle pizza gluten free. You could barely tell it was gluten free which I love. The menu had lots of great options. My parents got the OG pizza and said it was wonderful. The carbonara pasta came out and my sister in law said it was so good she didn't want to stop eating it. I also ordered a mocktail- love that they have that for an option and it was delicious. The inside decor was adorable. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Excellent meal and atmosphere. Food server was very friendly, offering advice on other slots around town. Will be back

Yelp
This is the second time we had an off experience. Felt very rushed, apps came out with entrees and cocktails were wrong. Ambiance is nice, but may be a better choice to sit at the bar and avoid wait staff.
google avatar

Dara R.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday night and the bar area was decently busy. They had live music which was a great feature, but it made it a little difficult to communicate with the waitress. The food and drinks were fantastic and came out super quick. They have a nice outdoor section which would be great in the warmer weather. I've driven by a hundred times and it always looks busy, I understand why now.

Yelp
Absolutely the coolest place on N Wayne avenue. Great food especially the salads and apps. If you're into smash burgers...Wednesday night is the perfect day to try it cause it's a great deal. My friends are so addicted that they keep coming back to visit me in Wayne so we can go back! great service is awesome and I absolutely love the outside seating

Yelp
We live 10 mins from the goat's beard but have never visited. Head really good things about this place. The decor and ambiance of the place is casual yet excuses a bit of upscaleness that would make me want to visit again. The place was packed when we visited and despite having reservations it was a slight wait (no biggie). Food was good, not great. Overall a solid 4

Yelp
Fantastic atmosphere and food. Beer selection is great, bourbon selection is even better. I sat at the bar (typical) and service was on point. The "Detroit Style" pizza is on pointe and legit. A new must stop locally while in town on business.

Yelp
The food here is amazing!! The vibes are great and the staff is so nice and helpful. I loved it so much I went twice in a week!

Yelp
The Pickle Pizza! Order it you idiots and thank your tastebuds and me later. Incredible balance of smokey bacon flavor, mild pickle, even-handed spice from chili oil, and delicious maillard reaction cheese crisps. Great team made for a fun evening. Get here.

Yelp
Food was great! Our server was welcoming and food runners were very efficient. Very cute and cozy place in Wayne!

Yelp
See my review for more details of our meal and experience. Overall it was a most tasty and memorable experience and will absolutely be back again. Flavor meets great good meets great service = awesome experience

Yelp
Lovely little spot in a cute town. I love a Paloma so I tried the Baloma and it didn't disappoint. The pizza was really wonderful and the wedge salad paired well with it. Also had the carbonara which was well executed and the mussejs. Definitely will return.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Lots of different throngs on the menu to choose from. I love to dine outdoors when the weather is nice. Staff was friendly

Yelp
My son's family treated me to a birthday dinner here on Sunday. My daughter in law had to track somebody down to take our order, but after that the service was good. We all enjoyed our food, starting with two appetizers, the cheesesteak egg rolls and the calamari, both of which were delicious. The kids had never had that style pizza before, and found it very filling. I had the seared salmon, which was cooked perfectly, and I enjoyed the veggies that came with it. We shared a brookie with a candle so they could sing happy birthday to me. The leftovers heated up nicely. I would eat here again if I was in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Went in for a fabulous dinner. Here on business travel and I love to eat at the local restaurants. All of the meals we had were unique in flavor and full of fun. I had the grilled salmon that sat on roasted potatoes and oven roasted zucchini. Under that was a nice thin layer of taziki sauce. It had so much flavor and the salmon had a nice flaky seasoned crust. In this picture is a 1/2 sized portion as we split the OG pizza. The pizza was good but not amazing. I was reminded that I am not a fan of the Detroit style pizza. The crust was just too thick for me. The pizza was good but like I said not my liking. I am more of a thin crust kind of guy. One of my coworkers had the steak mac'n'cheese that was also super yum. It had a wine based gravy cooked perfectly. Yum! My only disappointment was that I did not save room for dessert.

Yelp
Just happened to visit a few car dealerships in the area and stumbled upon this restaurant. It's right on the corner of one of the main streets, so if you get a window table you can watch the people and traffic going by. The dining room is a bit small, and whenever someone opened the door they brought in the weather outside for the couple of seconds it took the draft to sweep around the room. Also, if you are sensitive to smells like most people in my family, the scented candles on each table may bother you. Our service was quick and pleasant. We ordered the cheesesteak egg rolls and fried mozzarella - that wasn't on the menu because it was a special - as appetizers. The mozzarella was the best I've ever had. Although the tomato sauce on the bottom was cold, it was also very flavorful and the olive oil gave it a bit more freshness. It was the real star of the meal. The egg rolls were also good. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and served hot! For the main I ordered a small OG pizza, which is mostly just a Detroit styled pepperoni pizza. It was very good and my favorite was the tomato sauce on it - different than the sauce underneath the fried mozzarella. My mother tried the Turkey pastrami, although she could only take a few bites since we gobbled up the appetizers quickly. I tried some of the fries that came with the sandwich. They were a little too well seasoned - too much salt and pepper, but they were some of the few fries I ate cold and were still more than edible. Also wanted to mention, the staff was very friendly and the bathrooms were spotless. All in all, this is a great restaurant. Hopefully if you plan to visit when the weather is agreeable, you can sit outside and enjoy the bustle of this town. I would definitely return to do just that!

Yelp
The food is at the best mediocre here. I was surprised to see such a crowd at this place and the sizes of each dish were huge. When they say pizza, they mean a large pie. Please don't mistake it for a pizza. It was very thick with a ton of cheese on it. Even when we asked, the waitress said a large would be good for 2 people but she should have told us that it was a "pie" and not a pizza and a small would suffice! The waitresses were always in a super hurry and removed the plate before we even said "I am still eating". We had to tell her a second time not to take the plates away!
google avatar

Lacey G.

Yelp
We stopped in for an impromptu weeknight dinner. We were immediately acknowledged and brought to our table. We ordered the steak mac & cheese, and the pickle Detroit pizza. The steak dish came out pretty cold but that was a non issue and promptly rectified. I will say, the steak was very chewy and not the best quality. Despite this, the gnocchi was excellent. The cheese sauce was super creamy and delicious. The pickle Detroit pizza was also excellent!!

Yelp
Came here on a date night. We ordered the autumn calamari, corn pizza and cheesesteak eggrolls. They were all very good. The autumn calamari really surprised me and is the perfect fall appetizer. I asked if they can make a cocktail into a mocktail and they made the 'Dallas Sucks' drink very enjoyable. Our waitress was very attentive to us. They also have TVs at the bar so you can enjoy a drink and watch a game.

Yelp
While it was a small menu in terms of food options, all three items we had were really good! Was hoping for a little bit more in variety when it came to craft beers, but opted for a cocktail and had the Ziggy Stardust. It was excellent but two of them would have had me on my butt by the end of dinner! Not for a frilly drinker for sure. The TGB Nuggets we're definitely worth the hype in other reviews. They were just crispy enough and the heat from the Sriracha mixed with the blue cheese crumbles was *chef kiss*. For dinner hubby had the steak Mac and cheese which he really enjoyed. I had debated between the braciole pizza and the pickle pizza and opted for the pickle Pizza which was SO good. I could only eat half of it after sharing the nuggets, but also because the salt eventually catches up with you. If we return I will definitely be trying the braciole pizza. As for ambiance and service, the ambiance is definitely cozy and service was friendly. Would return!

Yelp
Came here to merry a friend for dinner. Really cool place with a nice outdoor seating area. It is right in the heart of Wayne. There's a lot nearby but it fills up fast. We were able to find parking on one of the side streets, we just had to walk a little bit. The place was really busy, even for a Tuesday night. That goodness we had made a reservation. We sat inside and the first thing I noticed was that it was really loud. After we had been there about half an hour, a guy started playing live music. Then the volume really increased. My daughter and I each ordered a cocktail which we really liked. My friend got wine. For my meal, I had a turkey club. It was a good sandwich but it wasn't a traditional club. This one had thick bread so only two slices. I really enjoyed it and was able to take half home. The fries served with it were really good. I would come back here again but not if I really wanted to have a conversation with someone and probably not the best date night option either. Next time, I think I will come for lunch!

Yelp
Below is my original review of the Goat's Beard in Wayne. Since this review, manager Stephen DeLong reached out via email to discuss my experience. He was apologetic and sincere, and I was impressed with his professionalism. He has convinced me to return in the near future to give it another try. Thank you, Stephen DeLong, for reaching out and showing true dedication to your establishment. We look forward to our next visit. -------original review------ The appetizers were terrific! The atmosphere is trendy and populated by neighborhood patrons, which made for a very nice initial impression. Unfortunately, we were forgotten after being seated. We almost walked out but managed to get service by being boisterous and a bit pushy with the host. Eventually, a very reluctant waitress attended to us. Throughout our meal, we faced numerous issues. We had to retrieve our own straws and remind the waitress multiple times about our drink orders. She kept returning with bad news about what we had ordered. Additionally, she spent a significant amount of time flirting with a nearby table, ignoring our attempts to get her attention. As a multiracial family, my gut instinct tells me that our poor experience felt intentional, echoing concerns from another review I read. Adding to the frustration, we were surprised by an additional "back of the house" charge on our bill, approximately 3 percent of the total. I'm not sure what this is about, but it might be a new practice in the restaurant industry. While this place has potential, we are uncertain if we will ever return.

Yelp
Goat's Beard Wayne rarely disappoints. Food is pretty good. Drinks are as well. Service is typically solid. Sometimes the restaurant is buzzy, sometimes not, but that's probably most places. There's probably a little bit for everyone at GB, although vegans and vegetarians might have limited options. There are also a few things pictured on their website that I've never seen in the restaurant to include mussels. Fix this please?:)

Yelp
Great food and drinks! Last time we went we felt like we were rushed because it was a busy night.

Yelp
Really good! The staff is friendly + the ambience is very nice. It was really pleasant sitting outside, and I thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered! I had the vegetable curry as my main and also a piece of the mushroom pizza which is SOOOO good.

Yelp
Love this place food is always good however we went this past weekend and got food poisoning. Very unfortunate.

Yelp
Good food and nice location in Wayne. I don't know if the service is the best here but I wouldn't be too picky. Overall had a nice time and everyone was saying that their food was great. The steak mac & cheese is very good, a few pieces of good meat over cheese gnocchi. Missing a little bit of salt IMO but very good. The burrata salad looked really good too and they had a special of ribs that got some good feedback too.

Nicole F.

Yelp
Already a bad presentation...the website says they close at 11pm and we go at 8:50pm and they actually close at 9pm. Manager contacted me and after I proved the conversation and screen shot the website that was incorrect...they changed it (but not before I screen shot it) and then replied rudely. Very hostile. I would not recommend. I will post picture from last night. Instead of being honest and apologizing...this childish tactic was taken. We do not need establishments like this in our community!!! Sean the manager is not warm or welcoming. Surprisingly very rude and a liar. Shame on you. Continue to lie....do you see the pic where it says 3 hrs ago that the "hours" was changed. Provide your proof...because this is distasteful and shameful on your establishments behalf.

Yelp
We visited two times. Good food. Four of us ordered different entrees, and liked all of them. Very friendly service by both times.

Yelp
Very very good Food especially good Drinks good Service good Ambient atmosphere good Great service

Yelp
I'm in love with their "steak and mac" which is really steak and gnocchi...wow. Very nice wait staff too. Amazing selection of bourbon... another wow. Wife got excellent carbonara. The Radnor Twp parking app Park Mobile sucks...three tries and it wouldn't do the email login. Go right to the text way of parking which uses Apple Pay. Then you won't have to stand in the sun or rain trying to get the app to work.

R D.

Yelp
Arrived for our reservation and were nicely welcomed and quickly seated. Asked for a seat away from the windows to avoid the cold and they said there were none but that a heat vent was blowing in that direction and they were right so all good. Plus manager came to check later that we were okay and offer us another table - we were fine but a very nice touch on her part. Service was very efficient. Food was excellent, had the buccatini and the Smoke Show pizza. Both were very tasty, especially the pizza, highly recommended, even the small is enough to share. Place has nice warm feel. But the noise - wow. Extremely noisy, particularly the bar side. Do not go here if you want to enjoy a relaxing dinner or have a conversation.

J F.

Yelp
unique and wide menu, with lots to choose from! The staff was friendly and attentive, even though it was a busy night. Will return!

Yelp
It's pretty average American fare. If you're a normal person, you'll like it. If you're a foodie, you'll likely be disappointed. My (normal) parents enjoyed it quite a bit on their first visit; they found their second visit a bit disappointing. The steak Mac n cheese gnocchi, I will say, was quite good! The ribs were... tiny. It was not a full rack, nor was it "an abundant serving," as my father noted. The veggie curry was mediocre (though that's to be expected from anywhere that serves both ribs and Mac and cheese and curry, I'd expect). The brookie was yummy and the caramel sauce on it was fantastic, though they give the tiniest amount of ice cream with a brownie the size of your face--ratio a bit off there. Note: service was fantastic. Our waiter was extremely kind and accommodating.

Tom R.

Yelp
There's nothing worse than 17 people rubbing up against you while you're trying to have a decent meal. People STANDING around the bar, practically leaning on patrons eating their dinner. Also, my bill said "3% tax" at the bottom. What the? I asked our waitress about it... "they started that for our kitchen help during Covid". Um it's 2024. Give me a break. Do they have any idea how things work in the rest of the world? She just kind of giggled.... I won't be back. No thanks. $18 for a bland burger and fries was bad enough, but then they add 3% to it? Lol. Yea right.

Trevor H.

Yelp
Madison with the perfect smile and Rob with the blue eyes have awesome service at the bar. Reliable, cool, best recommendations. Communicate interestingly when it's the vibe and leave you alone/w a date if it's the vibe. I come often enough because I live locally without being the awkward regular. "THE BEST PORK TACOS IVE EVER HAD" from my pseudo-judgmental-but-perfect-best friend. The food is SO. GOOD.

Yelp
Very nice service and good food. I ate alone at 5:00 and requested a quiet table. Helpful hostess complied. Excellent plant based burger with big unexpected delicious salad. A lot of families with well behaved children early on a Saturday night. Attractive place.

Yelp
a terrific dinner with two business colleagues. I have certainly known about this place for a long time, just haven't been here until this evening. Nice beer selection. Nice wine selection. Nice cocktail menu. and an amazing whiskey selection. The food was terrific. me and one other person in my party both got the hot chicken. it was delicious. another person in my party got the pickle pizza. honestly, I had never heard of pickled pizza in my life. however she shared a slice with me and it was absolutely wonderful. So now I'm going back to have the pickle pizza all to myself.
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
The fact that they offer food that still satisfies for those who cannot eat gluten is an extra star in my book. The service is friendly, the vibe is a fun pub with decent music. Great for drinks or a full meal. I can even bring my kid here!
google avatar

Janice B.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at The Goats Beard. The calamari was cooked perfectly! My husband had a burger and I had a wedge salad. Both delicious! The pear sangria was tasty as well. Our server Samantha was amazing! We will definitely go back!!

Yelp
Variety of food choices is good and taste is excellent! The pizza is filling and cheesesteak egg rolls are packed with flavor!

Yelp
Me and a few friends met here for drinks and munchies. The bar area was definitely the place to be on a Friday night. I tried two cocktails- Twist & Shout and the Penny Lane. Both were unique and very good. Price for the serving was a bit high but that is usual for most bars so it wasn't a surprise. I'm not a whiskey drinker but I did notice the list of options was extensive. The bar are is kind of small so it can be a bit loud. It wasn't unbearable. We decided on several appetizers to start with our first round of drinks. Calamari was good. It was served with a tomato sauce....watch out for the peppers if you order it. Pita and hummus is always a good choice so we ordered that too. Lastly we ordered the Brussels sprouts. I know. Why order a veggie? But they were so good with big pieces of bacon. You know it's good if bacon is included! The Smoke Show Detroit Style Pizza and steak Mac & Cheese were ordered for dinner. The pizza was deep dish. I loved the extra layer of ricotta cheese. The steak Mac & cheese was a total surprise. Who would think to replace the pasta with gnocchi? So clever and delicious! It was a potato gnocchi with creamy cheese sauce. A must have if you visit. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is not overly big so I would call for a reservation. Definitely going to be visiting again.
