The Godolphin | Best places to stay in Marazion

"If you’re wanting to stay on the southern end of Cornwall, this 17th-century coaching inn, with spectacular views across to St Michael’s Mount, is a good choice. It sits right above Marazion’s beach, and at low tide, you can walk across the famous cobbled causeway to the Mount. With just 10 rooms – 6 with sea views – it’s intimate and personal, with friendly staff who welcome you by name. The restaurant serves an all-day menu inspired by locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, notably delicious fresh seafood. In good weather, means are served on the al fresco terrace, overlooking the beach and sea. Given its location, it’s exceptionally good value, and good for all comers. It’s welcoming of families with children; there are two family suites, one with bunk beds. There’s also an adapted suite for disabled guests. " - Matthew Roach

🌟 Review: The Godolphin, Marazion 🌟 We had a fantastic experience at The Godolphin—the food was absolutely amazing! Every dish was beautifully presented and full of fresh, vibrant flavour. One standout for us was the beetroot hummus—it was incredible: rich, smooth, and bursting with flavour. A real highlight! The setting is just as impressive—unbeatable views of St Michael’s Mount, paired with a relaxed and stylish atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot for a memorable meal, whether you’re celebrating or just enjoying the coast. Service was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend if you’re in the Marazion area—we’ll definitely be back! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ All the best Mr Mitchell.

An amazing hotel in all respects. The view from my bedroom was St Michael’s Mount - so impressive. Staff were great from start to finish. Sophie on reception was so lovely and Pru the restaurant manager I would give 11 out of 10. All the staff were so professional and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was really tasty. As a solo traveller I am often given the table in the corner and ignored - NOT here. Was made really welcome. Reserved spaces in the car park made it easy. Cannot fault and would definitely go back

We only had drinks but this place sadly lacks in customer service. A wonderful location but both times we came for a drink there were only a couple of others in beer garden and staff rather than asking if we would like another drink simply swiped our glasses away. Often experienced service in Cornwall pubs/ hotels- served by staff who gave the impression they were doing us a massive favour by charging £15 for 1 pint of lager and a wine spritzer

Absolutely amazing as always. Nothing is too much trouble. |They made my husbands 40th very special. They delight in good customer service, they have a beautiful spot which is a little paradisiacal and is reasonably priced. ||The manager Rosie and in particular Pru were both really lovely. Lauren and the domestic staff made a fuss of our little westie. ||We would return as many times as we could because this hotel is a pleasure to visit each and every time.

Restaurant Manager Pru extended us a genuinely warm welcome at the Godolphin restaurant. She guided us through the menu before we made our meal choices. The customer service throughout the evening was exceptional. Better than many restaurants I have experienced in London. Young waiter Jamie offered to move us to a window table, affording us better views of the stunning St Michael Mount at sunset. |And yes, the food was delicious.

Hugely disappointed.|Booked a table for 15th May 2025 @6.30pm, arrived on time and introduced myself for booking only to be told there was no booking, I told the lady that I stood there on the monday in standing in same place while the booking was entered onto their laptop asking for a window seat as it was our wedding anniversary and explained couldn't guarantee window seat but put a note on system - eventually got a table 'between' the 2 main eating areas yes a window but like being at the end of a corridor and the remains of prevous diners food under table, service was extremely slow, 30 minutes before we got a drink, 55 minutes before a starter which was poor for the price, 3 x 3/4 inch scallops with 3 seared half new potatoes and a slim piece of pak choi with some crumbs sprinkled over, probably sat under a heat lamp for 10 minutes, the other starter was a mackeral & horseradish rillette, shredded mackeral (as opposed to arillette) with dry toast and very dry so asked for some mayonnaisse or butter and the waitress returned with one small foil pack of butter which she handed to my wife . . .|When plates were cleared and asked if ok I said I was not happy with the starters especially the size and quality of my starter.|When main courses arrived the waitress put down Moules Mariniere for my wife but as the bowl was so full spilt the llquor over serving board and table but no offer to clean up but then asked if we wanted any sauces . . or butter (thanks for the sarcasm !) burger and chips, tiny bun for burger so not much filling and over cooked/dry chips, over 2 hours for 2 courses not a pleasant experince ! - not impressed with the poor service, overpriced and poorly presented food - shame as a wonderfully placed venue.

My breakfast was outstanding but others’ full English breakfasts were over-cooked. However, on other occasions when we’ve eaten here it has been fully 5-stars.

Went there for a quick breakfast before walking to St Michael’s Mount. The view is breathtaking, and the food also did not disappoint (as it is sadly the case with many places that have an outstanding view). Very friendly and fast service. Would definitely recommend to people visiting the nearby attraction or the beach below.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Godolphin as we did not have Internet so could not check online and they had availability for lunch. Turned into a great find. The views are brilliant and the service was very friendly. The food also did not disappoint. Started with fried calamari, a good size portion and it had a little kick to it. The most impressive dish, though, was my main of mussels. I ordered the large size, as I've never had too many mussels, but this really was a large. Huge portion of mussels, nice sized and meaty ones and the broth was incredible. I have never before felt so stuffed from mussels, well worth it. The only disappointment was the bread nibble. Four pieces of bread for 6 pounds feels excessive, especially compared to the reasonable food prices. All in all, very happy we stopped here and would go back.

Yelp
Great location. Great view. Service non existent. Have waited 25 minutes after being seated. Had to ask a sever to help us. Restaurant is not busy and lots of staff around. Not impressed. Food is pricer compared to others in the area .we had high hopes coming in however there are other options .

Yelp
We had found this hotel on the internet before our recent trip to Cornwall and all agreed that it looked absolutely stunning. Alas, when we arrived we felt a little disappointed and I was all set to give them a low review. The bedrooms felt like they had been recently refurbished but the rest of the hotel was pretty tatty, with chipped paint and flakey wallpaper. Doors to cleaning rooms were left open and rubbish was left outside which gave a very poor perception of this hotel. The shower in our bedroom also fluctuated constantly from freezing to scorchio and the door wouldn't shut resulting rapidly in a flooded bathroom. However, the level of customer service in this hotel was exceptional and just proves how simply things like friendliness and helpfulness can turn someone's experience around... The front of house staff were quick to change our room for us when we mentioned the problems with the shower. We were, in fact, moved to a room with a brand-new top-of-the-range shower and breathtaking views of St Michael's Mount from the window. A room that would normally have been a lot more expensive. In fact, all the staff we came into contact with were amazing good at their jobs - from reception, to bar staff, to waiting staff, and in particular the older chap (Anthony) that single-handedly ran the breakfast service. Oh the breakfast!! There was so much choice from full English, to Continental, to smoked salmon and scrambled egg, to poached haddock, and any combination of the above. Nothing was too much trouble and our server never batted an eyelid when my slightly fussy travelling companions made particular demands on how the scrambled egg and sausages should be cooked, as well as asking for extras...! The evening food, although nothing outstanding, was tasty and filling. My one complaint was that there was nowhere in the bar where you could escape the noisy television, which happened to be showing the final of BGT on this evening. We ended up going to bed early just to get away from it! Overall, what could have been a disappointing stay turned into a lovely travel experience and we ended up staying for an extra night.

Yelp
We had dinner here two nights in a row, which is rare for us. This is because (1) the other restaurants/pubs in town have *much* more limited hours and availability, and (2) it was delicious. Overall, it's a large restaurant space (attached to a hotel) that has an outdoor area that overlooks Mont St. Michel. The tables were spread out enough for comfort, and it was casual and relaxed. The service was excellent on both nights. They are open later than seemingly any other restaurant in town, which is very convenient. They have a local beer special: you get three 1/2 pints of Cornish beer/cider for the price of 1 pint. It was a good deal, and the beers and ciders were tasty. In addition to the regular menu, there are 3-4 specials each night. We tried out the fish and chips, burger, lamb shoulder, hake, power salad, and monkfish (special) - and we all enjoyed our food. While we were there, the waiters sang happy birthday to a diner and brought him a cake with sparklers, which was fun. We would definitely return!

Yelp
On the face of it the Godolphin is everything you would want from an upmarket gastro pub if you were visiting on holiday - perfect food, location etc. For me though, as a local who enjoyed coming here regularly, I was really upset when the place underwent a major refit. All the Cornish character was stripped out, the food was upgraded from affordable, delicious pub grub to expensive nouvelle-style cuisine. In short it became what I call 'St Ives'd.' Myself and my partner only ate there once after the refit and decided we would not be eating there again. Very sad as we used to go there nearly every weekend in the old days.

Yelp
We keep returning here when in the area, as the food is consistently interesting and tasty, without being over the top. And the view of the Mount is to die for. I think there is a new chef, and the food now seems better than ever. Recent meals have included seared rump of Cornish lamb with crushed new potatoes and pink peppercorns; and hake tagine with almond and apricot rice and flatbread. Excellent desserts too, with summer berry bread and butter pudding with clotted cream a standout. They do a lovely espresso martini too. Dinner for two (main, pud, drinks) was £65. It's a must.

Yelp
Very nice pub, situated over four levels, which all take advantage of the spectacular views of St. Michaels Mount. Great areas for eating or enjoying the views and a quiet pint. You shouldn't be put off by the prices as the food is excellent quality and worth the extra holiday treat, so indulged yourself, you deserve it.

Yelp
We had breakfast here before going across to St.Micheals mount. The English breakfast was excellent with proper sausages and mushrooms. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We live nearby, and over the last 10 years or so we have frequently visited for the generally good Sunday carvery lunch, choosing a window table with a great view over the Mount and Bay, and have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Until last Sunday. We guess that things have changed under new management. "If there are only two of you, you must wait ,then sit at a tiny rickety table next to a service door" - so says the new Herr Manager. We guess this new Mr Adolf has lots of boxes to tick - it's a shame that he is chasing away long-established customers with his bad manners and appalling customer service. There are lots of local places to go elsewhere.

Yelp
Stopped here for a coffee after our visit to the mount, a maze of rooms to eat in but sat outside with a nice view of the mount. May go back for a meal later on our hols.

Qype User (sticke…)

Yelp
Sunday carvery is very tasty and is only complimented by a view to die for (especially if you get the table in the window!). Can get very busy (shows just how good it is) so would recommend booking for a special occasion. Definitely one to add to the list of places to try, if you haven't already done so.
