The Godolphin | Best places to stay in Marazion

"If you’re wanting to stay on the southern end of Cornwall, this 17th-century coaching inn, with spectacular views across to St Michael’s Mount, is a good choice. It sits right above Marazion’s beach, and at low tide, you can walk across the famous cobbled causeway to the Mount. With just 10 rooms – 6 with sea views – it’s intimate and personal, with friendly staff who welcome you by name. The restaurant serves an all-day menu inspired by locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, notably delicious fresh seafood. In good weather, means are served on the al fresco terrace, overlooking the beach and sea. Given its location, it’s exceptionally good value, and good for all comers. It’s welcoming of families with children; there are two family suites, one with bunk beds. There’s also an adapted suite for disabled guests. " - Matthew Roach

I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Godolphin in Cornwall for three unforgettable nights, and I can honestly say it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had! From the moment I arrived, the staff welcomed me with genuine warmth and enthusiasm, setting the tone for an exceptional stay. Their friendliness and dedication to guest satisfaction were truly remarkable—every interaction, whether it was checking in, seeking local recommendations, or simply chatting, felt personal and heartfelt. The Godolphin itself is a gem, perfectly blending modern comfort with the charm of Cornwall’s stunning coastal setting. My room was impeccably clean, stylishly designed, and offered breathtaking views that made waking up each morning a delight. The attention to detail throughout the hotel, from the cozy communal areas to the thoughtful amenities, created an atmosphere of pure relaxation. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay special, always with a smile and a can-do attitude. Whether it was arranging dining reservations or sharing insider tips about nearby attractions, their expertise and care elevated the entire experience. The on-site dining was equally impressive, with delicious, locally sourced dishes that showcased the best of Cornwall’s culinary scene. I cannot recommend The Godolphin highly enough. It’s the perfect place for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of Cornwall while being pampered by an outstanding team. I’m already looking forward to my next visit! Thank you, Godolphin staff, for making my stay so memorable.

Our three night stay at The Godolphin Hotel was very enjoyable. We stayed in Penzer Point a family suite which had amazing views out to St Michael's Mount. The room was extremely comfortable, with fridge, safe and all that is needed. There was a good choice for breakfast each day and hearty meals in the restaurant each evening. All the staff we met during our stay were friendly, hard working and courteous. In particular, I would like to mention Prue, who was particularly helpful on a number of occasions and helped us out after an incident. Our two dogs also had a lovely time and were very spoilt by everyone.

Popped in here for a quick refreshing drink , we sat outside to enjoy the view . My wife went into the bar that caters for the outdoor area. She ordered two homemade lemonades after a lengthy wait as only one person serving. She was surprised when the lemonade was dispensed out of the pump to which was added lemon juice , some syrup and a sprig of mint , and was charged £8.90 . |Is this “homemade “ ? And £0.90 service charge for being served at the bar ? It was nice but we felt liberty’s had been taken , and took the shine off the visit .

We had a lovely visit to The Godolphin in Marazion. Sitting out the back with a drink was just perfect – the view across to St Michael’s Mount is absolutely stunning. It’s such a relaxing spot to watch the world go by while enjoying great hospitality. A fantastic place to stop and take in one of Cornwall’s most iconic views.

Amazing views of St Michael’s Mount and Mounts Bay. Central location in Marazion, parking provided during stay. The hotel and restaurant is very dog friendly, wide selection of delicious food available. The lovely cooked breakfast was cooked to order. The staff were excellent in dealing with allergies within our party. Suite very comfortable and provided a relaxing environment. Thank you so much for a memorable stay.

Beautiful location and very friendly welcome from the receptionist . Unfortunately when we got into the room it smelt awful as someone had obviously been smoking in there .when we opened the window the cigarette ends were all there and the lovely receptionist agreed that should not have happened , the cleaning team should have picked this up . Also the breakfast on the first morning was so overcooked we couldn’t eat it , we did point it out to the waitress that the bacon just sapped into 2 pieces and the rest of it was dried out. We did get an apology but no offer of a replacement , we did not order a cooked breakfast on the 2 nd morning but noticed the other guests left a lot on their plates . Think maybe the chefs need a bit of a re train and the oil in the fryer is changed !! Such a shame as the hotel and room was lovely .

An amazing hotel in all respects. The view from my bedroom was St Michael’s Mount - so impressive. Staff were great from start to finish. Sophie on reception was so lovely and Pru the restaurant manager I would give 11 out of 10. All the staff were so professional and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was really tasty. As a solo traveller I am often given the table in the corner and ignored - NOT here. Was made really welcome. Reserved spaces in the car park made it easy. Cannot fault and would definitely go back

Yelp
Stumbled upon Godolphin as we did not have Internet so could not check online and they had availability for lunch. Turned into a great find. The views are brilliant and the service was very friendly. The food also did not disappoint. Started with fried calamari, a good size portion and it had a little kick to it. The most impressive dish, though, was my main of mussels. I ordered the large size, as I've never had too many mussels, but this really was a large. Huge portion of mussels, nice sized and meaty ones and the broth was incredible. I have never before felt so stuffed from mussels, well worth it. The only disappointment was the bread nibble. Four pieces of bread for 6 pounds feels excessive, especially compared to the reasonable food prices. All in all, very happy we stopped here and would go back.

Yelp
Great location. Great view. Service non existent. Have waited 25 minutes after being seated. Had to ask a sever to help us. Restaurant is not busy and lots of staff around. Not impressed. Food is pricer compared to others in the area .we had high hopes coming in however there are other options .

Yelp
We had found this hotel on the internet before our recent trip to Cornwall and all agreed that it looked absolutely stunning. Alas, when we arrived we felt a little disappointed and I was all set to give them a low review. The bedrooms felt like they had been recently refurbished but the rest of the hotel was pretty tatty, with chipped paint and flakey wallpaper. Doors to cleaning rooms were left open and rubbish was left outside which gave a very poor perception of this hotel. The shower in our bedroom also fluctuated constantly from freezing to scorchio and the door wouldn't shut resulting rapidly in a flooded bathroom. However, the level of customer service in this hotel was exceptional and just proves how simply things like friendliness and helpfulness can turn someone's experience around... The front of house staff were quick to change our room for us when we mentioned the problems with the shower. We were, in fact, moved to a room with a brand-new top-of-the-range shower and breathtaking views of St Michael's Mount from the window. A room that would normally have been a lot more expensive. In fact, all the staff we came into contact with were amazing good at their jobs - from reception, to bar staff, to waiting staff, and in particular the older chap (Anthony) that single-handedly ran the breakfast service. Oh the breakfast!! There was so much choice from full English, to Continental, to smoked salmon and scrambled egg, to poached haddock, and any combination of the above. Nothing was too much trouble and our server never batted an eyelid when my slightly fussy travelling companions made particular demands on how the scrambled egg and sausages should be cooked, as well as asking for extras...! The evening food, although nothing outstanding, was tasty and filling. My one complaint was that there was nowhere in the bar where you could escape the noisy television, which happened to be showing the final of BGT on this evening. We ended up going to bed early just to get away from it! Overall, what could have been a disappointing stay turned into a lovely travel experience and we ended up staying for an extra night.

Yelp
We had dinner here two nights in a row, which is rare for us. This is because (1) the other restaurants/pubs in town have *much* more limited hours and availability, and (2) it was delicious. Overall, it's a large restaurant space (attached to a hotel) that has an outdoor area that overlooks Mont St. Michel. The tables were spread out enough for comfort, and it was casual and relaxed. The service was excellent on both nights. They are open later than seemingly any other restaurant in town, which is very convenient. They have a local beer special: you get three 1/2 pints of Cornish beer/cider for the price of 1 pint. It was a good deal, and the beers and ciders were tasty. In addition to the regular menu, there are 3-4 specials each night. We tried out the fish and chips, burger, lamb shoulder, hake, power salad, and monkfish (special) - and we all enjoyed our food. While we were there, the waiters sang happy birthday to a diner and brought him a cake with sparklers, which was fun. We would definitely return!

Yelp
On the face of it the Godolphin is everything you would want from an upmarket gastro pub if you were visiting on holiday - perfect food, location etc. For me though, as a local who enjoyed coming here regularly, I was really upset when the place underwent a major refit. All the Cornish character was stripped out, the food was upgraded from affordable, delicious pub grub to expensive nouvelle-style cuisine. In short it became what I call 'St Ives'd.' Myself and my partner only ate there once after the refit and decided we would not be eating there again. Very sad as we used to go there nearly every weekend in the old days.

Yelp
We keep returning here when in the area, as the food is consistently interesting and tasty, without being over the top. And the view of the Mount is to die for. I think there is a new chef, and the food now seems better than ever. Recent meals have included seared rump of Cornish lamb with crushed new potatoes and pink peppercorns; and hake tagine with almond and apricot rice and flatbread. Excellent desserts too, with summer berry bread and butter pudding with clotted cream a standout. They do a lovely espresso martini too. Dinner for two (main, pud, drinks) was £65. It's a must.

Yelp
Very nice pub, situated over four levels, which all take advantage of the spectacular views of St. Michaels Mount. Great areas for eating or enjoying the views and a quiet pint. You shouldn't be put off by the prices as the food is excellent quality and worth the extra holiday treat, so indulged yourself, you deserve it.

Yelp
We had breakfast here before going across to St.Micheals mount. The English breakfast was excellent with proper sausages and mushrooms. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We live nearby, and over the last 10 years or so we have frequently visited for the generally good Sunday carvery lunch, choosing a window table with a great view over the Mount and Bay, and have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Until last Sunday. We guess that things have changed under new management. "If there are only two of you, you must wait ,then sit at a tiny rickety table next to a service door" - so says the new Herr Manager. We guess this new Mr Adolf has lots of boxes to tick - it's a shame that he is chasing away long-established customers with his bad manners and appalling customer service. There are lots of local places to go elsewhere.

Yelp
Stopped here for a coffee after our visit to the mount, a maze of rooms to eat in but sat outside with a nice view of the mount. May go back for a meal later on our hols.

Yelp
Sunday carvery is very tasty and is only complimented by a view to die for (especially if you get the table in the window!). Can get very busy (shows just how good it is) so would recommend booking for a special occasion. Definitely one to add to the list of places to try, if you haven't already done so.
