The Gold Star Bar

This bar was owned by my friend's uncle John Bozymowski in the 80s and 90s, the last time I was there. For sure it was cleaned up and remodeled since then, to get rid of the old cigarette smoke No doubt. But that aside, it still has the same charm it did way back then. It's nice. As a nice touch they have Wyandotte Beer Co. Gold Star Lager on tap. Hat tip to Brian the brewer for that one!

The gold star bar in wyandotte Michigan is a great neighborhood bar that is filled with tons of history that is complimented by a fantastic staff owner and customers from my experience the gold star bar is a perfect example of a community coming together under one roof to share the joy that is prevalent in the in the community and to welcome one and all with open arms . If you ever find yourself in wyandotte Michigan I highly recommend going to the gold star bar to experience something that is very hard to find these days

Been going to this bar as long as I can remember, used to be my mom's favorite before she passed. Always has friendly faces. Great neighborhood dive!

Best dive bar I've been to in a long time!! Only reason why I didn't rate the stars for food because we were on a time crunch and didn't have time to eat. Valerie the bartender was fantastic!

Welcoming neighborhood bar. It's got that old "dive bar" feel, which makes for a cool vibe. Their is a pool table to keep people entertained, along with some other games in the back. They do not serve food, aside from bagged chips and nuts. Their beer is cheap as well. To go along with that neighborhood bar feel, the bar is located on a residential side street, which I assume would make the bar Grandfathered in, due to zoning laws. But it's kind of nice having a neighborhood bar off of the the main drag. Overall, the place is worth the visit.

Very old fashioned neighborhood place. Been such a mainstay of the community for so long that I knew someone who was actually born in that bar. Easygoing. $1 shells of beer all-the-time. So famous it has a locally produced beer named after it. People who have a problem with dive bars should not go to dive bars. The Goldstar is the real thing.

The legendary Goldstar, one of the last remaining house bars of Wyandotte & the oldest! They have a claim to fame, the slogan "bar & no grill", that is one of the reasons I give them such a low review. They're cash only & that's preposterous in this era. Cash only & no food. The place also looks like it's been falling apart for 20 years. The curtains are dingy, the curtains upstairs are falling apart. The exterior is straight out of a horror movie. They only recently upgraded to flat screen TVs, finally new floors laid after I'm sure someone called about their asbestos tiles chipping up & they have badly outdated furniture. Some of the regulars are downright rude, the bartender's tend to be less polite to younger ppl. The pros are it is a quaint house bar, and ya get to avoid the downtown crowds. Their parking lot is a good size & layout for plenty of parking availability. They have a pool table. A jukebox with good selections. I have suggested this place to others, though I often suggest other local spots. This place fails so badly, where they could really shine, if they weren't so damn cheap!

Old school dive bar. The Gold Star isn't fancy. This isn't a super hipstery attempt at a dive bar, but a legitimate dive. If you come in expecting a classy establishment dressed up as a dive bar, you're wrong. Recently visited for the first time in a couple years and I will say they've made some definite improvements though. Must nicer inside but still a dive bar.

To call this bar a dive would be an insult to dives. It's basically a stable for downriver's Poor Unfortunate Souls and sundry other things found in basements during the day and bushes during the night. Twice I have been dragged here, with about four years between each visit. They have almost no selection at the bar, had to ask me what was in a whisky sour (I opted for something straight up, after that) and it's always vaguely musty. The last time I was persuaded to go there I was bitten by no less than 7 BUGS and in the two weeks since then I have developed some sort of infection/reaction to one of the bites. I am seriously warning everyone away from this place.

This place was a staple of my youth, and even had some decent bartenders. Now? Oh no. Bartenders are rude, hardly stop chatting with the regulars to give you much attention at all. The bartenders cannot tell you what beers they have in stock either. Being affordable is not a good excuse to be a filthy junk heap. Do not even look at their soda gun, GROSS!! It's amazing they haven't been reported for it yet. The décor is atrocious, seriously would it hurt to discard the broken down tables and chairs & replace the chipped up asbestos floor tiles?! It's the oldest bar in wyandotte, it should have some level of pedigree, it has the pedigree of that cheap dog food. And NO grill of any kind... Really?! The can also be quite rude to younger folk... This is the one star they earn: It has a huge parking lot considering most house bars do not. Pitchers: $5 large $3 small

Corner watering hole. Affordable drinks, cash only, and beer, definitely not a place you can go to and ask for a martini though. It's the oldest standing bar in Wyandotte.

when baby mama comes back to detroit she always makes a visit to gold star. you go yourself and see. very nice place to have a few beers and talk with people in neighborhood.

Leaving a 1 star review is extremely generous to say the least. This bar could be one of the grossest places I've ever seen. I am at a loss of words for a good way to describe this "bar." Just avoid it at all costs. I am in shock that it hasn't been shut down for health code violations. Oh...lastly don't use the mens room. The wet floor is a direct result of the crack in the urinal.

I have to completely disagree with the first review. To call it a dive would be apt. It's small, gross, cheap, and scary, which is what a dive bar should be. Somewhere in the awful hipster hurricane that has ravaged our country as of late the word 'dive' has come to mean pretentious hipster bar that serves Pabst. This is a god damn shame. The Gold Star is a small room in a house that serves you cheap booze, so drink it, then drink more, then go to the bathroom to make more room, and once you're in there and the biker in the stall next to you offers to let you do a line of blow off of the hand dryer, you damn well better do it. (True story.)

This is the dive bar all others should be measured by. Where else can you bring your dog or bicycle inside? Friendly staff will serve you with a little sass and dirt cheap prices. If you're nice, people will respect you there, perhaps ask you to join in a game of Euchre.

Old school, neighborhood working class bar. Kind, attentive staff, laid back atmosphere. Love the old back bar and ceiling!
