"The favorite East End cafe, with branches in Southampton, East Hampton, and Bridgehampton, expands its repertoire of soups - try Hungarian mushroom, butternut squash, kale and white bean or corn chowder - in the chillier months.  Chilis including turkey, vegetarian and mac’n’ cheese are also on the menu, along with warm paninis, including turkey and beef, tomato and mozzarella with balsamic glaze." - Beth Landman

Yelp
10/10 for the egg sandwiches. So delicious and filling. We split them between 4 people because they were so big. The bacon was crispy just how we like it. I would prefer a sausage patty over chorizo but it was very good. Employees were nice and you can't beat sitting outside people watching. Definitely will be back!

Anjali B.

Yelp
I have been to golden pear numerous times but always opting for iced coffee or a tea. They are consistently good (big fan of the cold brew). This time we decided to try a sandwich. Opted for the sag harbor (chicken salad on ciabatta and cold slaw). It was good but nothing too remarkable. I have heard that the wraps are good though so will be trying something along the lines of that eventually. Also to note on the pricier side for what they are serving but nothing surprising out east.

Yelp
Everything in this place looks incredibly Fresh! Service is super friendly and quick!

Yelp
Meh. Honestly I didn't understand what all the hubbub is about. This was a place I wanted to check out as it came highly recommended. The menu is ridiculously expensive. $17 for a breakfast sandwich and over $20 for oatmeal? I guess it is East Hampton. The coffees smelled good though I didn't have any. Sitting outside was difficult because we kept getting accosted by bees. Would not return.

Vanessa A.

Yelp
$6 for a small iced coffee?! Yikes! And that's without the surcharge for using a credit card

Jake R.

Yelp
Went back yesterday just because the owner decided to shoot back at my original negative review--thought maybe he channeled some of that attitude into the food... nope!! It seems from the other comments that racism is pretty much the only thing this place does well :/ Defensive responses won't change the fact that you are a 2-star business overall; good luck ;)

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Go if you want plastic or paper in your food. I had 2 negative back-to-back experiences here. When I reached out for a refund, the manager Keith was extremely rude (see screenshot) then blocked me. Never received the refund initially promised. Never going again. Update: this is the first negative Yelp review I've ever written, I'm not a Yelp whiner, and Keith's response further proves his lack of professionalism.

Yelp
We ordered some fresh juices at Golden Pear, which were excellent. It's a little confusing when you go in the shop, since it's not clear where you should line up. Other than that, service was friendly and quick. Their baked goods look terrific, especially the chocolate chip cookie.

Vry S.

Yelp
Overpriced even for the hamptons. You've got better options. $23 "fresh" juice $17 bacon egg and cheese Servers are fine, doing their job. Entire restaurant is due for a major renovation, it is not up to par with anything in the surrounding area, and for a $40 lunch that isn't full service you should at least be in a nice comfortable space. Highly recommend to steer clear

Yelp
Day old bag they sell for 5 bucks with various items in it is actually 3 or 4 days old because it honestly everything in it tastes like S$%^....I mean WTF?? I am reading owner is a bully etc.....I wish I ran into them I will make sure they understand this review.

Sam H.

Yelp
This restaurant is super shady. They charged my card more than what was was listed on my receipt! Anyway, we saw a bunch of people outside eating from this place as well as lining up inside to order so we thought it must be good? Should have checked yelp to begin with. I ordered a simple peppermint mocha latte and the lady at the cashier had such a hard time trying to understand. What I ended up getting...I don't even know what it was. It didn't even taste like peppermint and it was overly sweet. Zero coffee taste. I'm not one to throw things out since it's wasteful, but I literally had to throw it out as soon as I got back to our apt.

Yelp
Love the off season at this place. Great breakfasts and yummy lunch. Very expensive though

James T.

Yelp
Service is terrible here. After ordering a sandwich to go and waiting outside for twenty minutes (I had told the person I rang it up with that I was going to be outside since the cafe was crowded per COVID concerns), I checked back in and flustered staff couldnt find the sandwich. No offers to make a new one, just searching and looking confused and repeatedly asking what I had ordered. I showed the receipt (more on that below) and they confirmed that what I had been saying was correct. I asked for my money back and they seemed exasperated at having to refund me. The other annoying thing was the 3% surcharge for using credit card. When I been pointed out that the receipt I had been given didn't break down the fee and the cost of the food, the response was that everyone in East Hampton is doing this. Illegal consumer violations are not justified by complicity of others. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Been coming here for 10 years plus and it hasn't changed much. Food is good, not great, amazing muffins/pastries. I have ordered the same thing multiple times and it is always a different price depending on who rings you up. You will never receive an itemized receipt and it seems as if whoever rings you up decides what you will pay that day, and their prices are absurd to begin with! In the summer, the lines are chaotic and filled with hungry and confused customers. If you want just coffee why should you have to wait on the long food line? Insanely unorganized.

JA N.

Yelp
Picked up 8 muffins (aprox. $5.00 each) that were stale and hard as a rock. When I went to bring them back and show them, they told me to leave. Staff and management were so nasty. Don't waste your time with this establishment, even the the coffee was horrible and expensive!

Hope M.

Yelp
Honestly never been more dissatisfied and disappointed than when I spend 24 dollars on a egg sandwich on a croissant a small coffee and 2 pieces of non ripe cantaloupe. Golden pear is highly overrated and way to expensive.

Victoria W.

Yelp
Rude employees just not a great vibe whatsoever. I asked the girl if i could get a small coffee but in a large cup because i wanted extra room for creamer and ice to put in at home, she gave me such attitude and said no we dont do that, you cant fill up a large cup to the small line? Starbucks does it i mean what? U can get whatever size in another cup size they dont care whatsoever. Why do u? Two ham egg and cheese croissants and a small coffee was $38! I summer in the hamptons every year im used to crazy prices but thats bullshit. Never again is all i can say. OH on top of all that, there were SOOOOO many people jam packed on top of one another that saturday morning. I felt very unsafe. They dont give a shit about corona virus or taking safety precautions, they just want money.

R. K.

Yelp
Just the East Hampton Facts.... Ordered two "Southhampton" sandwiches. True roasted turkey with brie, honey mustard, tomatoes. The sandwiches are neatly prepared and good. No two sandwiches are worth $36.... ...none...

Elaine Z.

Yelp
Slow service, overpriced and disorganized. Looking at the recent reviews, apparently the waitstaff are also blatantly disrespectful on their receipt descriptions. I ordered an oatmeal for around ~$6 which turned out to be a pile of tasteless oats that took forever to be prepared. Others in my party waited forever for their food, with one person's quiche going completely forgotten until we had to remind one of the employees. People will probably still come here since it's close to the station and if they need a quick bite (it definitely won't be quick), but I would avoid at all costs.

Izzy V.

Yelp
Really cute cafe in Southampton. Good mix of healthy/not healthy options - I got the ultimate breakfast burrito (all day breakfast!) and it was good, almost too much food. Everyone else liked their food as well. Bathrooms are for customers. They let us sit outside past 5, their closing, which was nice too. Highly recommend!

Nav D.

Yelp
Not impressed. I had heard a lot about the Golden Pear Cafe and was looking forward to trying it. I ordered a sandwich, a small portion of one of their salads and a drink. The price was over $30 and it was 100% not worth it. Everything was ok, but nothing spectacular and definitely not worth the price. I found the service to be just ok as well. The ladies behind the counter seemed preoccupied. Also, I found it frustrating and odd that they don't answer their phones. I left my wallet at the restaurant by accident and called the restaurant to ask them to put it aside for me. The phone goes straight to a voicemail. I called several times and it seems like they don't want their staff answering the phones. Bottom line- there are a lot of better places to eat in the Hamptons.

Cenci D.

Yelp
Although I've been going to this place for many years & have always enjoyed stopping in for fresh coffee, this year has been quite different. The service is severely lacking with the people that currently are working there. Not helpful, nice, patient or inviting. A big let down quite frankly. I've gone 3 times & I think I'm just done with it. Each experience is worse than the time before. And I wasted my money on a simple cappuccino that was very poorly made

Evan R.

Yelp
Why...that is my review... why... unless you are a born-again fiend of the craycray owner --- why? Hands down the worst place in the Hamptons.

Emily F.

Yelp
the people who work here are cheap and try to cheat u of what u actually ordered. consistently have to speak up to get WHAT I PAID FOR. save ur time energy and money. just go to starbucks which is conveniently across the street. they actually listen to what u ordered rather than handing everyone a drink that is easy to make.

Andy K.

Yelp
Decent place to stop for an iced coffee in East Hampton. But the people that work here are complete morons. I do not usually rip on the staff of an establishment, because it is often a shit job with annoying customers, but these tards were just so slow, confused, and at times nasty. Also the people here can be a bit rude. I was snapped at by some stupid cu...I mean bi...I mean woman that was too busy yelling at her kids and missed her place in line. When I went to order my coffee, she jumped over me and said she was first. I backed away and just smiled at this dummy in disgust. But yeah, good coffee.

Matt E.

Yelp
@Golden Pear [East Hampton] - make sure to request Xtra Cream Cheese x 5 - GP skimps out badly (see pic)!

Jessica S.

Yelp
I always end up stopping in here when visiting the hamptons. They are one of the rare places that offers hazelnut iced coffee and they even have hazelnut coffee mate at the milk station! It has that cheap coffee taste in the best way if that makes sense. They also have tropical iced tea! They have solid flagels but I can't really speak to the prepared food. It looks mildly appetizing at best- maybe a step above a bodega. I think they could do way better. There's nothing special about this place- the service, decor, fare- its all meh. For such a high end area there's a real lack of decent quick casual cafes. That being said there's nothing terrible about this place either. 3 stars.

Mark S.

Yelp
As full disclosures, I have been a regular on weekends for breakfast for many years.I go exclusively to the East Hampton location.Christina is a great manager and the staff is very friendly and competent. It's hard to argue that they have the best coffee in the Hamptons. I normally get the egg sandwich or one of their muffins. The people watching isn't bad either.

Reed F.

Yelp
GOOD FOOD & COZY I ordered the soup and was very satisfied. It's an upscale area so that is what you should expect as far as pricing goes. There is a negative: You have to sort of be picked when trying to place an order. Stupid system. It's a tiny place so it's hard to form a line, but the picking a random customer system creates disharmony. They should work out a number or ticket system. My rating is more based on the food than the ordering system.

Collette M.

Yelp
Waitstaff rude. Unless you like your overpriced food with a large side of sarcasm and eyerolls do not go here. The hot bar at citarella next door is several steps above this place.

Sang P.

Yelp
http://blog.angryasianman.com/2015/08/asian-customer-referred-to-as-chino-on.html?m=1 Not cool. I guess every people of different race should double check their receipt to see how they're described.

Ivana D.

Yelp
Great quick service, solid omelettes and pastries, yes It's pricey but delicious. I really enjoyed it!

Taylor P.

Yelp
Something you need to take in consideration, especially in The Hamptons, is where the establishment is located. This Cafe is located right in the heart of East Hampton Town so the price is going to be high. The food is good and made to order. It is a little slow but it is because they are making your food fresh. The portions are smaller than your average which I like so I don't over eat but I can see how it can be a let down when you pay $12 for a breakfast burrito and it is half the size of an average burrito. Check out @HamptonsHighlight on Instagram for good food, deals and local spots.

Therese D.

Yelp
Charming. Wonderful selection, service and experience. Perfectly charming . Recommend the coffee for sure!

Nicole S.

Yelp
Overpriced, underwhelming food with poor service and a long wait. Their iced coffee is good, but that's pretty much the only redeeming quality. If you're looking for a quick lunch to-go in the area, I would recommend visiting Villa or Citarella instead.

Dafne B.

Yelp
I love this place but today was such a bummer. I ordered a poppyseed flagel toasted with cream cheese. I wasn't able to eat it right away but once I did one half of my flagel had cream cheese and the other didn't have any at all. For a $4 flagel you would think I'd get my money's worth and actually have a flagel with cream cheese but nope

Megan S.

Yelp
My colleagues had such a high opinion of this deli so I decided to give it a try. This is a nice place to bring a group for a quick lunch and there are a variety of options on the menu. You can order hot soups, sandwiches, and salads but they also have cold/hot food bar with other entrees (including a "quiche of the day"). I decided to try one of their sandwiches which comes with the choice of a side salad, fruit, pasta salad, or coleslaw. I ended up ordering the Westhampton Beach sandwich with a side of fruit... added a water for a total of $17. Ultimately, my sandwich was fine. It came with chicken, pepper jack, balsamic vinaigrette, lettuce, and tomato on sourdough bread. Ingredients were fresh but I'm not too sure the balsamic vinaigrette was homemade? The Golden Pear is convenient but the food is pretty average- 3 stars.

Christian T.

Yelp
Expensive but clean . Not worth the monies as you can get the same stuff in other joints, unless you want to rub elbows with the nouveau riche crowd.

Roy R.

Yelp
The food is as disgusting as the people here. I ordered a tiny tinker portion of the chicken salad and paid $10 for what was basically a basin of sour cream. Nothing is labeled so you don't know if you're ordering a side of garbage or a side of sh*t. The staff is thorny because they've been waiting on NYC shrews from Middle Earth for eternity. And the food may be organic because it actually tastes like its fresh from Frodo's garden. Everytime I enter the place I want to scream. They should rename the place the Rotten Fruit.

Kim D.

Yelp
THE WORST SERVICE! My boyfriend and I went to grab a quick bite last Saturday morning and this place was a dismal. It took 30 minutes to get a Spa burrito! The cafe was indeed busy but the employees were disorganized and unprepared for the rush, which is surprising given that EH does a majority of its business in the summer. They didn't take the individual's name associated with the order and shouted out random names of the breakfast items ordered to no one in particular. People were annoyed by the poor service and disorganization. We expressed our frustration and employees didn't seem to care and there was no one in charge. This place sucks.

Sar P.

Yelp
At least they do one thing right - consitently provide bad food & service at all their locations!

Billy I.

Yelp
$16 for a bagel with lox! Whoa. A little pretentious but occasionally good for running into famous people.

Dan C.

Yelp
The Golden Pear fits the bill as an upscale vacation town gourmet sandwich shop quite well. Full of small town charm, and expensive sandwiches, this is a good spot to grab some food before a day on the beach or a walk through one of the nearby state parks. The service is prompt and food is quite good, but be prepared to pay up. The people ahead of me shelled out $55+ for four people....for takeout. I spent about $27 for me and my wife...jeez. They do have some small tables with chairs to sit and eat, but I could not sit there fuming about what we paid for lunch. But, that is par for the course in the Hamptons, I guess.

Joe B.

Yelp
overpriced pigswill, I had a lousy experience but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again. Server tried to charge me twice for coffee, the coffee is self serve, I paid when I ordered, they tried to get another $3 then I got mad, and then they finally remembered, "oh jess, he pay already" Skip this place

Haley C.

Yelp
My friends and I used to sit in the window and see if we could get people to wave at us. There isn't really much else to do in EH if you don't want to be wasted all the time or can't afford to pay the really high movie and bowling prices. The Golden Pear has an excellent selection of baked goods (which you can find on sale in the basket near the fridge), soups, sandwiches, even hot homey dishes like chili or meatloaf. Situated right in town, Golden Pear is convenient to both parking lots and any spot you may find on the street (sometimes you can get lucky over in front of the middle school, it's just a couple blocks. Even if during the summer, you may want to stamp on the feet of the people in front of ane behind you, the employees are always SO NICE- tip them well! Like Raquel said, it winds down in the off season, so you may want wait to avoid the lines and try the amaaazing pumpkin muffins in the fall.

Shelly A.

Yelp
EH! Whatever man, this place needs to get over itself. I've tried this place a few times and its struggled to remain a viable lunch option for me. The sandwich I just got was $12 and it basically fell apart as I ate it. The salad was all soggy and justifiable so as I saw the lady scoop it out of a bowl where it was undoubtedly made several hours a go. A stupid place in the Hamptons to fork over your money. Speed is its only redeeming quality...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Talia R.

Yelp
I get it, they need to make enough revenue in 3 months of busy to cover 9 months of probably empty. But isn't there a better business model than a $17 bagel with lox & a $13 egg white omelette (no home fries, no toast, nada)? The room is also just so depressing - the seating, the lighting, the very poorly organized ordering system. My Ultimate Burrito was the most disappointing hangover cure ever. It was two scrambled eggs, some cut up pieces of hot dog (billed as chorizo?), botted salsa & wrapped in a stale & oddly orange colored tortilla. At least heat up said tortilla if you have old bread products? Or smother it in cheese so I don't notice? Such a monopoly, there is really no where else to just grab a quick breakfast, so can't see any of the negative aspects ever changing. They have no incentive to serve better ingredients at more reasonable prices, we'll all just keep coming back anyway! I guess now that I think about it, I wish I owned this kind of racket...

Marisa F.

Yelp
Went to the location in East Hampton for lunch. Yummy sides (particularly the spanish rice), better-than-average lentil soup, and my half sandwich (turkey with brie) tasted fresh and came on delish bread which is, of course, crucial. We stopped into the Bridgehampton location for breakfast on our way home -- good coffee and decent bagels.

Dave M.

Yelp
After reading the other Yelp reviews...I wasn't going to go. But the place down the road was closed, and we decided after walking past the Golden Pear to try it. I am glad we did! The baked goods are delectable. I was concerned initially when I entered because on a cookbook they quote Alec Baldwin saying something to the effect that this is where he goes when he wants to feel at home. However, I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered omelettes, pastries, bagels and coffee, all were quick and exactly right. The coffee options are varied and tasty. My omelette may not have been a "Mama's" omelette from San Francisco, but it was close. We enjoyed the meal so much we bought additional baked goods to take home. Amazingly the tab for four (two kids and two adults) only came to $32.

Leesa L.

Yelp
They reinforce racism with their casual talks about describing their customers (people who keep their business alive) AND ONLY caring to describe their customers by race. It doesn't matter if you do it to all customers and it's part of the norm, it doesn't mean its right! it's the fact that your company takes the issue of marking customers by their race a light issue and doesn't raise any concern to you all and that's a huge problem. So if having slaves was normal and if it was done all the time it actually makes it right? I think not! Anyways, close this place down already! Psh!!!
