Glendora’s 100-Year-Old Golden Spur Restaurant Building Is Turning Into a Care Facility - Eater LA

"Glendora’s 100-year-old restaurant The Golden Spur closed back in October. For the last three months, there’s been a bit of mystery on what restaurant would replace the massive former steakhouse. After a $2.16 million sale, a familiar non-profit group will take this space out of the dining market completely. As one of LA’s oldest restaurants, The Golden Spur’s approach mirrored most restaurants from that era, with a gargantuan 180-person dining room offering steaks, catfish Fridays, and old school classics for families throughout Southern California. Entertainment included tribute bands, but the main draw was the distinct neon sign with a boot and spur. The October closing was abrupt, as the company had just launched a new website in late-September. The owners had even introduced a new cocktail menu in late August. In today’s industry, keeping a cavernous old guard restaurant filled with new customers and returning regulars is a challenge." - Mona Holmes

Delicious food - we had salmon and the swordfish. Great service and wines. The owner makes the special cheesecake which was the best we have ever had! Prices were very good for the classy ambience, great food and very entertaining karaoke. We decided to stay on and enjoyed the KJ, Chuck Brock.

I've been coming here for years. The food is fabulous. Great service. Lot's of locals hang out here. I wish they would take advantage of their out door area more often...live music, Sunday brunch...

This establishment is clearly dated and seems to cater to an older crowd, from the decor to the food to the overall vibe. I tried ordering what seemed to be the healthiest dish I could find (penne with broccoli) but even that came swimming in butter! I'm not kidding. There was a pool of butter at the bottom. One person in my party couldn't even eat their meal because it was so unappetizing (swordfish for $32), which brings up my next point; the prices are definitely too high for the quality you get! Very disappointing meal, and I would not recommend. Unless they modernize their menu and offer healthier options, I will not be returning

If I could describe this place in one word it would be: Unacceptable. We had a reservation to celebrate the graduation of my youngest brother. It started out medicore, the food was average yet overpriced, but we overlooked that as we were all in a joyous mood. We were being served by an older waitress. The service was below par, and forgetful, and we had to request basics such as water refills multiple times in order to get it once. However the karokee night was fun and by the end of the night we were paying and the waitress felt the need to remind us tip was not included in the bill. It was fine, we leave cash tips and it was already on the table. As we were leaving she reminded everyone at the table that tip was not included in the bill. When she saw the cash, she decided she had done better than what she had been tipped and started a scene with various members of my family saying she had done a good job. As a waitress myself, I thought it was extremely rude to ask for a larger tip in general, but she hounded my family, and even asked my LITTLE BROTHER for a bigger tip. Her deplorable attitude really ruined the night and my family and I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Chicken Piccata was tender and tasty . Their prime rib was perfectly cooked. The best I've had in years. If you haven't been here lately, I encourage anyone to come back. Experience the Spur the way it used to be when it was good food!

I happened to be passing through Glendora around lunchtime and had been wanting to check out The Golden Spur, which has been around since 1918!!! I loved the retro feel from the sign to the lights inside. I ordered the Reuben, which was pretty good, but I got the sense that it’s really the dinner that this place is known for... and not just that but I’ve read folks raving about their early bird specials. I’m glad I got to see it though. There was only one server there at the time, and while he was friendly enough, he wasn’t too informative. I like it when the staff at historic places like this take pride in how old the place is, and if I hadn’t known going in, I would have missed out on that fact. Check it out though!

I give Golden Spur a five star for a particular reason. They have absolutely the best scallops I've ever had! Tender, juicy, and huge! A real treat for your taste buds. They do have karaoke...which I love so it doesn't bother me...but be warned it is possible to hear a horrendous version of Take On Me wafting across your dinner from the bar. Trust me though...the scallops are well worth listening to someone who THINKS they can sing!

We drove 60 miles to try this restaurant based on reviews on another site. We had a delicious lunch. There was no crowd during the week and the service was excellent! This restaurant was on the historic Route 66, but has been modernized inside. The sign out front seems to be the original.
