"This low-key spot combines a well stocked bottle shop and craft brew bar that allows patrons to buy beer to-go, or crack it open and enjoy it there. With an array of over 450 bottled and canned beers and 16 constantly rotating beers on tap, there's something for everyone. The experience here is most enjoyable in the late afternoon, where you’ll find beer aficionados sipping and talking shop." - Rodrigo Ormachea, Ellen Fort, Janelle Bitker

Google
Charming and festive bar with one of the best beer selections I've ever seen. Friendly staff and Melissa the owner can guide you through all the beer and cider varieties to find that perfect brew. The best part is you can shop all the beers and take them home. Love this place! 😍

peter njuhi

Google
Good spot !! Lots of varieties of international drinks 🍸. The only downside is when the bartenders choose to watch movies on tv and crank up the volume to full- slowing down customer service! Arghh

Joseph Potthast

Google
A good selection of beer on tap but also a wide variety available to buy in bottle form. The only negative I have is the music was loud and not to my liking but that has no bearing on enjoying beer.

Vyvyan de Cleyre

Google
The staff are awesome and I felt very accepted and safe as a trans woman. Not something I can say about most craft beer bars. As a nyc transplant this is my new favorite spot. ❤️

David Allen

Google
I love this place so much. I’ve never found more varieties of beer/cider anywhere else. The owner is super friendly and down to earth. Respect

Sean Edgley

Google
My favorite craft beer spot in the Bay Area, hands down. Awesome bottle selection in the back fridges and diverse tap list. Knowledgeable and attentive staff, and only a dollar corkage fee if you want to enjoy your bottle at the bar. The decor is a bit Applebees-esque, but the clientele are always well behaved beer nerds that are there for the brew. Friendly ambience.

Taylor Burns

Google
The best to-go selection and bar for beer in the East Bay

Ryan Frank

Google
Simply the best. Better than all the rest! (The song that plays in my head when I walk into the Good Hop) The draft list is always fire. And if you can't find a beer in the back you like.... well. That's not possible. Go and drink it!

Cat S.

Yelp
Great service! Wonderful ambiance!! The BEST beer ever (The Ghost Town on Tap is ) Something I appreciated was the samples and the excellent recommendations based on the beers I enjoy

Jeancarlo P.

Yelp
Great beer, friendly staff, love the to go beer selection as well. Parking is a bit rough but sometimes you can get lucky.

Jon T.

Yelp
Excellent spot on Telegraph for craft beer. I wanted to grab a drink before a show across the street and saw that Good Hop had both draft as well as cans (for take away or on-site). The draft selection alone was quite good, but with all of the cans to choose from too you could easily find yourself partaking of a few hours. Beyond that, Good hop has a really laid back vibe and felt like it was full of mostly locals. The bartender/cashier was a one-person show but took care of everyone's needs very quickly. Will definitely go again next time I'm in Uptown!

Elvira F.

Yelp
I habe only been in here once but right off the bat I knew this place was a beer lovers dream come true. They have a huge selections of beer packs to go and they also have indoor seating to enjoy a beer on tap. I only stopped by to grab a few sour beers to go but I had a great conversation about sour beers with the cashier/beer-tender. Would like to come back here and enjoy a beer in person. If you need some good craft beers, then this is your place

Dean S.

Yelp
Fantastic service, great beers on tap and an incredible;e shop for unique beers! Service as fast and very friendly. They are very much a part of the local community.

Linda N.

Yelp
You ever walk into a strip joint-- sorry, dance establishment with beautiful women offering a variety of talents, and can't decide which to choose? Yeah, me neither. The Good Hop is the mecca of all meccas for your beer needs here in Oakland. In a hurry? There's a variety of beers in the back fridge for you to stock up on. Staying longer? There's a bar and plenty of seating to quench your thirst. I like beer but I think I fell in love more with the different brandings. Dork. This place is spacious, inviting, and good vibes. If you have the monies, buy them all-- and I don't mean the beer. Jk, the beer, women too ;P

Emily C.

Yelp
Excellent selection of craft beers from IPAs to stouts to sours. They stock some of my favorite breweries including Tripping Animals and Evil Twin. You can buy cans from the case (singles or 4packs), pay at the register, then enjoy them at home or in the store which doubles as a cozy bar. There are also a handful of beers on tap in pint size or growler. Happy hour before 5pm has some $5 beers!

Ian E.

Yelp
Owners are very rude. When I complained about dead bugs in my food he told they were healthy and no one cares. Beer was flat and the glasses were dirty. Avoid at all cost. Terrible customer service

Heidi O.

Yelp
Had a really good pickup experience at The Good Hop. Ordered online, which was really simple, and it said pickup would be ready in 20 minutes. By the time I walked over the bartender (very friendly) let me know they were out of one of my selections, so he took some time to help me pick a replacement. His reco turned out to be great -- if anyones into lower ABV (and therefore lower calorie) beers, the "Beer for Lightweights" is really delish. My favorite part, though, was that they offer "mystery" 4 packs, where you choose the category of beer (Light, Seasonal, whatever) and they pick some good ones for you. Love a nice surprise.

Alex A.

Yelp
This place is great. Super friendly and awesome female bartender, great vibes, generous happy hour (which can be hard to find at craft beer spots) and of course amazing beer. Don't love the neighborhood too much and parking can be iffy but it is worth it to check this spot out!

Orlando G.

Yelp
Co worker really likes beer and after he let me borrow some leaf blowers I wanted to thank him so I gave Sam a few cues as to what he liked and she picked out 4 beers for me to give him. Needless to say he loved her selections!! Thanks Sam!!

Cat N.

Yelp
This is literally, wholeheartedly my favorite business in Oakland (perhaps the East Bay)? I used to live basically across the street - though I was here so often and they feel so much like home you could almost say I lived in the ever-fresh corner of sour beers. Melissa and her team aren't just your beer purveyors and bartenders. They are truly a part of the neighborhood and for many of us, sincere friends. They remember not just your favorite beers, but your dogs, your friends, your family that you bring by - treating everyone with a kindness that is getting rarer and rarer these days in Oakland. They don't just ask what beer you would like; they ask how your day is going, what beers you would like to see, what has been going well for you in life, or how they can help if things haven't been going well. I can't wait for the day that we can get back inside to check their constantly updated and well-curated coolers - but the weekly cooler checks on Instagram are incredibly helpful - and amazing events. Melissa would bring in breweries for trivia night, SF Beer Week, anniversary parties, or just to feature and highlight a cool brewery she'd found and wanted to boost. Even in the pandemic you'll see on social media she personally goes out to grab the freshest and coolest beers for Good Hoppers. There's a personal touch and real effort to building connections and relationships in the beer community that makes TGH stand out. We have an incredible beer scene in the East Bay, and this is the best, only one-stop shop you need for beer and cheer. FYI: They are open Wednesdays through Sundays for pick-up, or you can enjoy from the draft list on sidewalk seating after ordering food. Seriously, go support them.

Heather D.

Yelp
Neighborhood is a little iffy but the bar is light bright and inviting. Plenty of seating around the large bar with tables available if bar stools are not your thing. Super dog friendly - including the patrons. Fun and changing menu to grab a brew. They also have a variety of locally made empanadas, that don't get enough attention in my humble opinion. Bring a bag and grab a variety of beer to take away, here is where the selection truly shines, this is a "do not miss beer fridge/bottle shop".

Gerard Y.

Yelp
I don't know why I never noticed this when I was at other First Fridays but this is a nice spot with a separate to-go line if you just want to pick up a beer and drink outside. And they have hella good beer selection over here. All sorts of beers. I felt like a kid in a candy store. They even had a section with a great selection of sour beers which I really love. They had a great selection of stouts and ciders too. It's $2 extra if you want to drink a canned beer inside the bar. The crowd vibe seemed nice. It wasn't too packed and I loved how they're pet friendly (I saw a dog there while I was waiting in line to pay). Shouts out to the front door guy with the SF Giants. Go Giants!

Ngoc My H.

Yelp
Love love love this place! They have plenty of beers on tap, anything you want: IPA, Hazy IPA, Stouts, Porters. There's plenty choose from if you want to take canned beers home. I came her specifically for the peanut butter latte golden stout- my favorite, for about $4. Prices are pretty fair here. Just be warned there is a $1 cap page fee for drinking beer on site. The bartender is always really nice and I like that this place has a community feel. I def will be back!

Barry M.

Yelp
Our favorite place to go for craft beer. Love Melissa, no one nicer in the craft beer scene.

Malachi M.

Yelp
Best Oakland beer spot.... That might make it the best Bay Area beer spot... let's go with USAs greatest beer spot. I have not found a better curated beer fridge anywhere. Staff, patrons, and passers by are all the chillest. They've got a good selection of 16 beers on tap but I'm always here for the fridge. Trivia night gets loud and is as much fun. I wish I lived closer. All the stars.

Alex T.

Yelp
If you love beer, you'll definitely love The Good Hop! The workers are friendly and the amount of beer selection is crazy! There are two-ways you can get beer from here and that's up front from the tap but, if you want something to-go or try something from the bottle shop (located int eh back of the bar) they have an crazy amount of selection for you to choose from. If you decide to purchase a beer bottle and stay at the bar the bartenders are happy to open the beer bottle for you and pour it in the glass for you.

Jay L.

Yelp
Great and varied selection on tap, to speak nothing of their great bottle/can selection. They don't uncommonly have things like at least one of the Pliny variations. Snack-wise, they only have things like bags of chips - but you can bring in outside food. You can order delivery from a restaurant, but I've also seen people just bring in casserole trays! There are recurring events like trivia and potlucks. A reliably great and unpretentious craft beer spot.

Jenna T.

Yelp
This may be a glance of heaven for any beer enthusiast. Great add on to the neighborhood even though it brings a slightly different crowd that otherwise probably wouldn't hang out in Oakland. This place is packed like a can of sardines on First Fridays, but on other nights, it's a good spot to chill and try different beers or ciders. The wall of fridges that hold various beers and ciders are pretty dope too. Some items you couldn't buy at any convenience store, you can probably find here. The place is pretty inexpensive too, which is always a bonus! Limited seating with some tables and other community tables. No outdoor section. There are several TVs.

Marcie A.

Yelp
YES! I was looking for my new bottle shop place since moving to East Bay from SF and I think I found it! I used to go to City Beer Store in the city so this place definitely has some shoes to fill. It's basically a miniature version of City Beer! The selection is definitely smaller from CB- hence the "mini"- but a great selection to choose from with all your hard to find beers! Here you got your Modern Times, Ballast Point, Alvarado Street (MY FAV), Sonoma Springs, Lagunitas, Russian River (PLINY THE ELDER), and many more breweries that I'm not hip enough to know. They also have beers on tap to make a fun happy hour, Sunday afternoon, Friday night etc. Also, Gogi Time is pretty much across the street to make a perfect date night! You cannot go wrong with this bottle shop!

Tony B.

Yelp
This is a great Bar/Store. you walk in to a bar counter and tv screens. then you have the choice of places to sit. once you sit you can either get beer on tap or pick one out of the fridge. If you do get one from the fridge you have to have them open it for you . The service was good but could have been better. we waited a long time to get our second round because it was only one person working. We only had limited time so i will have to go back to see how the bar snacks taste.

Misha T.

Yelp
This place is, as you might expect, a good beer shop. Between their solid draft selection and their large selection of great bottled and canned beer, you can certainly find the appropriate brew for you. They've also got a few TVs for sports, though I would not characterize this place as a sports bar. Also the "corkage" or "cap-age" for the non draft stuff is only $1, which isn't bad I guess. I've certainly seen other bars charge more.

Kris D.

Yelp
This locals establishment is so welcoming and they have an amazing selection of beer. I love how the bartender knows all the people that walk in and they are also very dog friendly. I don't think I can get enough of this place.

Melody S.

Yelp
The Good Hop is the absolute best. The nicest most knowledgeable people, the greatest bottle selection of all time, and some amazing beers on tap. In non-COVID times they are one of my favorite spots to hang out at, whether I'm reading a post-work book at the bar or meeting friends for drinks. These days they have a truly kick-ass online order/pick-up setup and are the number one spot I go to re-stock. If that isn't enough, in addition to being an amazing bar, they are really such a wonderful part of the Oakland beer scene and community. I've been coming here regularly since I accidentally tried to walk in before they'd officially opened many years ago (oops) and just want to make sure more people know about them.

Laurie H.

Yelp
Good Hop rocks it again. Friends invited me to go to First Friday (May 5) and I said "nah...too many people, and I've been too many times for it to be exciting." But THEN Good Hop posted on their Instagram that there was a stage right outside their doors and there was a rumor that an Oakland grammy winner might do a surprise appearance. I knew who it might be so I hatched a plan to go grab a barstool with hubby and check it out. It turned out she never materialized but no matter - my barstool was the JAM! Sat and drank beer for 3 hours and got a kick-ass rotation of musicians playing on the stage outside...and the doors were kept wide open all night. My friends all rotated through and we all bought plenty of brews...both tap and bottle. Just one more reason to love Good Hop: First Fridays!

Mei L.

Yelp
One of the best places to get a beer of any kind in Oakland. Right off the 27th ramp or 19th street bart, this beer place can be your starting palce or ending place. There are 10-12 beers on tap (combo of IPA, sours, stouts and saison beer), however this is not the best part. There are 100's of beers in bottles of those kinds you can buy to go or have there. The beer screens tells you how much is left and how popluar it is, for a small beer place, it has tons of personality and you can't go wrong with stopping for a half pint.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Great casual little tap house for brewskis! Digital beer menu with rotating taps , multiple glass cases with an awesome variety of beers to choose from. Beers here are priced EXCELLENT . Trivia nights here on Tuesday, there are fun board games to choose from if you're just hanging out too. Staff is super friendly and ... they allow dogs ! My frenchie was definitely on our trivia team;)

John G.

Yelp
Well first off the bartender Adam had excellent service and good vibes I really enjoyed myself. They had a excellent choice of delicious drafts beers and a great social experience thanks for a great day.

Yelp
TL;DR - If you're free of children, have good common sense when it comes to helping people, like to drink with your neighborhood, and even have a dog? This might be your new go to place. If you have a kid, don't believe in not being a dick, like to drink in a quiet place, and have a cat that you like to take with you everywhere. This is not for you. My wife and I keep trying to get invested into The Good Hop as our de facto neighborhood bar but we feel as though there's always something that prevents us from saying "This is our home!" We feel as though every time we show up, we're experiencing a bar under new ownership. Almost feels as though it's more of a co-op bar rather than a group of owners since the rules and vibe of the place changes per whoever is pouring for the day. Today, 08/15/21, is an example of that. Good Hop had HenHouse Big Chicken on tap. My wife and I being from Santa Rosa and very familiar with the HenHouse crew, got super excited that this rare beer of theirs was on tap. The family got dressed up in our HenHouse gear, including our 11 month old, and made the trek down. When we've arrived, we got our vaccination cards out but were promptly stopped from entering because "kids aren't allowed inside"... This is the first time that I have ever seen anything short of a nightclub or dive bar turning someone away because they had a kid with them. What makes the situation worse is that we have been there with her in the past and had zero issues. Since non-vaxxed people had to sit outside on the picnic tables and we were wondering if kids weren't allowed due to not being able to be vaxxed, we asked if we could sit outside -- to which we were told again that kids in general aren't allowed. Good Hop will serve to unvaccinated people and will allow you to bring your dog inside but if you have a child, you're out of luck. We ended up hitting up another bar and no one blinked an eye. Good Hop takes a lot of stances that honestly others are afraid to take, all of which are good for not only the industry they are in but for humankind in general. That's part of the reason why we WANT to make them our go-to place but unfortunately it looks like that won't be the case for us. So like the TL;DR says at the top... If you're free of children, have good common sense when it comes to helping people, like to drink with your neighborhood, and even have a dog? This might be your new go to place. If you have a kid, don't believe in not being a dick, like to drink in a quiet place, and have a cat that you like to take with you everywhere. This is not for you.

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Really dope small beer bar to satisfy your very need! So much selection when it comes to cans, lots and lots and lots of cans from everywhere! Some cool local beers with branding. A must stop if you are nearby and they have board games to past the time. Worth a visit!

Sarah P.

Yelp
UHHH: this place is amazing. Nowhere in town can do what the bottle shop does for me. I'm a big fan of sour beer and you can't really get that at the grocery store, so naturally I am a total regular here and proud to say it. The staff is amazing and super knowledgable about the beer they carry. They know me by name and I can tell I'm not the only one they recognize and acknowledge. The beer is great and all but who doesn't love coming back time and time again to the place that knows your name and takes the time to make your 5 minute beer run personal? I know I do! The bottle shop is an utter gem. It's a great place to hang out on a weekend night while you hop around uptown as well as a weekday drop in for some brews to go. It gets pretty crowded when Bay Area sports are playing and on First Friday's and I hope this place gets busier and busier because it's awesome and I have no problem shelling out for quality beer!

Nico C.

Yelp
Great selection of beers. Hip but not in the San Francisco annoying way. You can try beers before selecting plus they have a huge selection in the fridges. Prices are reasonable for good craft beer. $10 minimum for credit card. Drink up and enjoy the chill vibe.

Joel S. W.

Yelp
A small intimate taproom and bottle shop located in a great spot in Uptown Oakland. Parking is moderately easy here. Its close to great restaurants, entertainment and other bars. Good Hop sports roughly 20 taps with a very well-balanced selection of beers and small selection of snacks to gnosh upon. On any given night you will find 8 different styles of beers on the taps. Only a few IpAs so if you looking for variety this is a great place. The beer cabinets are fantastic. A HUGE variety of beers at a very reasonable price, including the elusive Pliny with a four bottle max. The place has a nice bar to sit at, tables along the windows, and a few larger tables near the refrigerators for larger groups. Sit at the bar fir the best service. Get samples and tip well. Staff is generally accommodating for sampling which is nice. The owners are almost always there. I like that. It makes things run smoother. Keeps staff frosty and attentive. Good times at the Good Hop.

Lane B.

Yelp
Pros: great selection of beer, saisons, and ciders on tap and in bottles/cans that you can drink there or take to go -board games -snacks -water polo (!!!) on TV -correct pricing -friendly and knowledgeable employees Cons: 11 pm last call on a Friday night -no real ambiance or decor (it kind of looks like some wall fridges, taps, and high tables/chairs were added to a vacant apartment complex lobby) Cons aside, I'm still glad to know about this place. We'll probably return.

Myles L.

Yelp
The Good Hop has a good selection of drafts and outdoor seating.

Albert R.

Yelp
The bar is great and the bartender Adam is awesome at his job. I had a wonderful time

Geoff m.

Yelp
I called Melissa in search of a keg for a wedding rehearsal dinner. She was kind enough to source a 1/6th of Temescal's pilsner which we loved. Melissa also hooked us up with a tap gratis. She even opened early so I could pick up the keg in time to get settled before the party. If you are in Oakland and looking for the widest and best choice of local and regional beers that are fresh and well curated, definitely go to the Good Hop and tell Melissa that Geoff from Boston sent you !

Ivette V.

Yelp
If you are a beer lover, nerd or rookie this is the spot for you. All kinds of different beers and ciders are stocked. They have so much selection that you can try a Different style and brewery everyday. The staff is also the best, hella helpful and knowledgeable, super non pretentious and all around one of the best places to go grab a beer or a few packs to go.

Sheena C.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for cider, and this is the first place I've ever been to that happened to have kiwi cider on tap. Needless to say it was a mindblowing taste experience and I'm glad I finally visited after months of eyeing it in the neighborhood. Anytime I have a friend from out of town now who wants to go out for craft beers, this is the place I would take them.

Sarrah R.

Yelp
9/10 - a bit on the pricey side sometimes but amazing selection of craft beer! also queer + women owned!

Karl M.

Yelp
The Good Hop is my go-to neighborhood spot for beers and ciders! The owner, Melissa, is absolutely amazing, cheerful, kind, and hella knowledgeable about all things beer.

Ken H.

Yelp
simply the best beer bar, tasting experience, and folks in the East Bay beer scene. And, their covid take-out offerings are fantastic. Brava!

Keridwyn R.

Yelp
I never thought I'd be someone who goes and has a few drinks on a Saturday or Sunday evening with friends but the Good Hop has converted this hermit. They have a pretty good selection of taps including one cider and two sours (there are often a couple other sours on tap at the end of the list), but the amount of bottles and cans in the fridges is what sets the Good Hop apart from others. I always leave with a cider or two and friends with a few beers. Even the pickiest drinker (... me) will find something (or many somethings) they like here, either to drink in-store (you can of course, get a can or bottle and have them open it for you). If you don't know where to start, the staff is always happy to help! When I was here this past Sunday evening, I asked for a recommendation on which sour to have, for someone who's a cider girl branching out into sours and saisons, and I got a description and personal preference about each one! I had first enjoyed a Golden State Le Mint cider, featuring flavors of spearmint and lemongrass. This is a favorite of mine, for sure. After finishing that, I moved on to the Humble Sea Brewing Co. Mirabelle Plum Saison (thanks to some guidance from I think Eddie). There are a couple things about the Good Hop I don't love, but they couldn't keep me away! - As much as sometimes I would love being able to get a 4-pack of something that only comes in individual cans, or vice versa, I wouldn't sacrifice their fridge selection. - The only parking around here is street parking, and it's not always easy to find something nearby (and some folks might not feel super safe walking around here). - I wish there was more space, more seating here since we're usually watching to pounce on a table as soon as it empties. - There isn't any food except little snack bags of things like chips, nuts, etc. Luckily there's plenty of great food in the area for either before or after you come here for drinks. I don't watch Game of Thrones but on Sundays the Good Hop will give a discount ($1 I think) on each drink if you show your ticket to the New Parkway's showing of the week's new episode that night. I think that's cool. This is the kind of place I'd be happy to become somewhat of a regular at (even living up in Richmond) but it's also a welcoming enough environment you don't feel like an outsider horning in on some neighborhood haunt.

Jessica W.

Yelp
Love love love this neighborhood bar and retail beer shop. They are still open during the pandemic so stock up on beers to keep you warm at night during the curfew!! Ordering online and sidewalk pickup is always super convenient and everyone follows good COVID procedures. Hopefully we get to go there for another beer week event sometime soon...

Markus B.

Yelp
Great beers on tap, so many great choices for bottles/cans to drink or to take home. The atmosphere is just right: not too packed and there's plenty of room. Definitely will be back soon

Alex C.

Yelp
Cannot begin to express how much I LOVE The Good Hop. Been frequenting this gem for a few years now; they have an amazing selection of beers, ciders and beverages for to-go sales but also a great space to kick it with friends and open up a purchased item. They also have a great selection of beers on tap - Melissa (owner) and her team are amazing. They also host special events including Bingo with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and more! A true community spot that must not be missed!!

Chris R.

Yelp
Great stuff on tap, better stuff in the fridges. I love this place and I think it's every bit as good as City Beer Store in SF (they look very similar). It is also nice that the mark-up on in house bottles isn't huge ($1 I think). They get a steady supply of Pliny's and Alvarado releases. They also are one of the only northern CA places I've seen consistently get Smog City so that's awesome. It's a bring your own food place so get anything delivered or walk down the block and grab Mexican food from Burrito Express.

kdub ..

Yelp
Whoa, all I can say is that if you love craft beer, this is the place for you! They have a TON of NorCal beers on tap and an entire wall of coolers with hundreds of bottled beers, which you can either drink on site or take home. Cool concept. One of the people in our group wasn't a big beer drinker. She told one of the bartenders what she liked, and he gave her a number of tastes of the beer on tap and helped her find one she loved. The people behind the bar definitely know what they're talking about when it comes to beer. And they were super friendly and not beer snobs. They don't make you feel stupid if you like Blue Moon, they just point you to something similar but better! The wall 'o beer is intimidating, but they were super helpful. They JUST opened so they don't have tables yet or art on the walls and it definitely looks a little rustic still, but the place already has a laid-back vibe. The space is huge, with lots of light and high ceilings. It's laid out really well, and the bar just has a good feel to it. They told me bar munchies are coming soon, and I think they plan on bringing local pop-ups and food trucks in from time to time. Great space, knowledgeable staff, and a metric fuck-ton of good beer. What's not to love?
