Korean owned. Very mindfully stocked and merchandised. Beautiful shop and good customer service. I’ve discovered some great German and Portuguese soaps through them. In agreement with the other reviewer who mentioned you might conflate it with other hipster general stores that have the same aesthetic, but the intent behind this store does certainly feel different.

This boutique is incredible. Ever item is meticulously chosen to inhabit each of the beautiful shelves and display cases. From the unique soaps and candles from across the globe to the most robust fabric sheers and frying pans—you’ll find that quality and timeless utilitarian design is often prioritized over atmospheric level prices and overhyped brand names. To make it an even more incredible experience, they also have a curated a part of their store to exhibit and educate on tea making…which from what I observed is fueled by a reverence and appreciation for tradition and really feels to come from a place of humility. There might be other stores in L.A. that initially look or feel like this upon first glance but this boutique is the REAL deal.

Quite a unique and interesting store of thoughtfully curated home goods. You almost feel like you're walking through a gallery installation of housewares, tools and self-care items.

Google
Really unique store selling amazing and USEFUL antiques! A fun place to walk around and look in because there are origin/history blurbs for all the objects within. Really fun place.

Google
One of my favorite LA lifestyle/general stores highlighting high-quality international home goods.

Yelp
Such a cute shop! If you're looking for a unique gift, this is the place to look. The assortment of home goods (i.e. plates, bowls, knives, etc.) all look gorgeous and perfectly crafted. Anyone looking for a useful but also aesthetically pleasing item can find it here. I also appreciate that the tables were spaced out so we were able to push a stroller around comfortably without fear of knocking anything over. In the back left area, it also looked like they served Japanese matcha! Gotta check that out next time.

Yelp
The Good Liver is located in downtown LA and is one of the last gift shops/houseware stores left in LA... and it's an amazing one. Most of the things are Japanese, I think..... fine, thin glassware, kitchen tools, and even knives. Everything is highly curated and just lovely. One thing I wish is that they had more barware. Japan makes the best shakers, bar spoons, etc. And they could seek out and carry something that the other shops don't have. They don't really even have a traditional cocktail glass. So sometimes I go and leave pretty quickly as they don't have that much new in. Still a gem. Check it out!

Yelp
The Good Liver offers a high-end aesthetic with a wide range of unusual items, like perfectly executed teapots that hold only 4oz, to take home. The store itself exudes calm, and I walked around in a blissful daze before deciding what to buy. It's the kind of store that's worth a trek across town, and a refreshing alternative to most of the downtown shops.

Yelp
Such a beautiful store that I stumbled upon randomly. I love coming here to buy unique gifts with unique stories. I also just love coming here every once in a while to look around and be filled with the beautiful ambience and products from all over the world. I will be back again and again.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to find amazing houseware goods from Japan and other places. Beautiful curation. Parking is horrible on the street but there is a paid parking lot just west of their building.

Yelp
Me and my husband love Good Liver and the concept of purchasing thoughtful and intentional general goods. The curated assortment makes us more confident in what we are buying knowing the research was done to find the best quality of each item. We especially love the tea classes. If you have a small group of 4 or less, it's really a great activity for celebrating a birthday or anniversary. We've done two already and the most recent was an Intro to Matcha with Connor from Kettl. It was exceptionally insightful and educational. Connor answered all of our questions and gave lots of morsels of info that went beyond the scope of an introductory class. We even made our own matcha! I highly recommend it for anyone at any level wanting to learn about matcha and the art of making it.

Yelp
An absolutely beautifully curated store with stunning wares that are functional and fairly priced. If you're looking for a unique gift, this is the spot.

Yelp
My life has been elevated. Period. We enjoyed a tasting of some TRUE, very fine japanese teas. Not at all what you could buy in a japanese market. - Gyokoro (shaded) green tea, brewed in small amounts with incredibly umami flavor. - Matcha expertly whisked. - The best Hoji-cha I've ever tasted. Amazing tea, plus a beautifully curated and displayed store of all things well-crafted. Thank you, Bert.

Yelp
While I love yelp and am constantly amazed by the plethora of businesses you can find using it, every now and then it's good to be reminded that there is no substitute for going a different way and keeping your eyes open. This is how we landed in The Good Liver one fine Fall Los Angeles afternoon. At first it reminded us of Tortoise General Store on Abbot Kinney in Venice. But it's not so packed. There was also a little bit of the feeling I get when we visit Poketo however there is a great deal more focus at Good Liver, not so random. Instead of one item, there are several. Not just one cool stapler, three. Not just one of anything. It's nice to be able to make a comparison. When I see just one of something it makes me want to go home and research it. If I see two or more it makes me want to ask questions. And that may be the most fascinating thing about Good Liver. The man who helped us, I regret that I didn't get his name, mentioned when we came in that there was a story about everything they had in stock. Isn't that the way it should be after all? Why sell something if it doesn't mean anything to you? As you begin to immerse yourself into what Good Liver has to offer the thoughtfulness of what you are seeing draws you in. Some items are pricey. Some are not. None are ordinary. Definitely there are things that fall into the luxury category. The razors and shaving brushes come to mind. But they're very nice ones. If you take care of nice things aren't they truly bargains in the long run? Of course they are. They have Lodge skillets. Not the ordinary ones you might see at Cost Plus of course. Just like everything else at Good Liver they were thoughtfully selected. The Hario coffee brewing equipment is another great example. Not the ones you would see at Tokyo Central. These are the copper ones, very nice. I could go on and on but it's so much better if you go see for yourself. Oh, and one last thing. There's a dog named Nana. It's worth stopping by just to meet her.

Yelp
This is a fantastic, quaint shoppe in downtown Los Angeles. They sell high quality, everyday items that are uniquely crafted and hard to find anywhere else. The store itself was perfect! Very well organized and the women behind the counter couldn't have been any nicer as I decided between purchasing two items. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The Good Liver is a celebration of the artisan. All items found here are of exquisite design and top notch quality. Located on the quiet and non-crowded Mateo Street in the DTLA Arts District, there is ample free parking (not sure how long this will last as this area is becoming more developed). This place is a cross between a general store (but a VERY high-end one) and a home decor shop, but with special attention to design and craftsmanship. Usually, there is only one worker here at a time. They are friendly and helpful, but won't be up all in your face. They let you know that they are there to help. And when asking them a question about an item, you can be sure they are well informed. However, I love how I can peruse their products in peace. It's a very zen shopping experience and environment. Ahhh... What sort of things do they have? Well, here are a few: scissors, knives, toothbrushes, shaving kits, tea kettles, incense, towels, pens and pencils, staplers, knives, gardening tools, cups, plates, items for coffee, and so much more! But again, each item is made with special attention to design and craftsmanship. I have been happy with my purchases. And from what others have told me, they have been impressed with the quality of the items I gave them. Most items come from Japan, while others come from several European countries such as England, Germany, Italy, and Spain, and there are several other products coming from the United States. But, it's not just the location, though we are told that location is everything, it's also who's behind the product. There is a story for each product, like the gardening shears made by the company of Joseph Bentley from England, dating back to the late 1800s. It's all about quality. The Good Liver is a great spot for finding something special for the special people in your life. Or, for finding something special for yourself. Go ahead. You deserve it!

Yelp
Beautifully curated shop! Staff was very friendly and helpful. They primarily carry European and Asian home accessories along with a few super cool hardware/home improvement items. You can also find some classic American items sprinkled throughout the shop. Sure the price point is a little high on some of their larger items but these are investment pieces. You won't be hiding any of their items in the cupboards when your guests come over! Can't wait to go back and pick up a few things to add to my collection

Yelp
This store beautifully presents a curated selection of functional household items. Whether you are seeking an esoteric and covetable gift, or something special for oneself, this is the kind of shop where you'll find the perfect item that you didn't know even know you were searching for.

Yelp
This is without question my favorite store in LA. The Good Liver is a very well curated collection of functional goods. I have been shopping here for the last couple of years and I genuinely use everything I have purchased here on an almost daily basis. From the handmade Japanese dishes and glassware, to the linens, to the tools - there is something for everyone. The store itself is quite small (although recently expanded) but I could truly spend hours in here. The staff is extremely knowledgable about everything they carry and each item has a story. My favorite purchase to date is a Japanese bathmat, made of diatomaceous clay, that dries on contact. We've had it in our bathroom for about two years and it's still going strong! It's simple things like this that give me a genuine sense of fulfillment when I walk into my home. I have also purchased several pieces of porcelain dishware from here that I use every day. My boyfriend knows how much I appreciate them and never tries to use them himself. He will ask me, "Do you want breakfast in YOUR bowl?" A single bowl that I love so very much. The good liver is not just a store but a continual source of inspiration for me. A rare gem amongst a material driven city that sometimes forgets to acknowledge the simple necessities. Thank you for existing!

Yelp
Very cool story with lots of unique high-end products. The stuff is expensive but of the highest quality. The products make every day items seem special. Good service, nice store.

Yelp
Best place for a gift. I have stopped by in a pinch and found very special items. The shop keeper is always kind, and patient with my questions as to what things are and how they work. Plan to be back soon for some memorable Christmas gifts.

Yelp
One of the most gorgeous boutiques in LA. Thoughtfully curated with inventory that actively changes with items that you can't find in America and even online sometimes. Highly knowledgeable staff, really a great addition to Art's District. If you're in the AD or Little Tokyo, definitely worthwhile to stop by. Maybe 20 min walk from Little Tokyo/Little Tokyo Gold Line Station. Minutes from Silverlake Wine, Everson Royce Bar, Stumptown.
