Portland Restaurants and Bars Where You Can See Live Music | Eater Portland

"With vibes straight out of the 1970s, the Goodfoot is known as one of the prime spots in Portland to dance to funk and soul. Portland jazz-funk-etc. bands regularly take the stage here, including acts like greaterkind, Fox Walker, and Scott Pemberton O Theory. The kitchen churns out dishes like bacon-wrapped hot dogs, kale Caesars, and burgers, with a daily happy hour featuring $5 footlong franks." - Jenni Moore

Where to Throw a Bachelorette Party in Portland | Eater Portland

"Another primo spot for dancing, the Goodfoot hosts tons of live soul and funk bands in its basement venue. Parties should start upstairs with burgers, pool, and cocktails before revelers trot downstairs to dance. Once the night is winding down, a stumble over to Baby Doll for pizza is in order." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Very chill place. It was a random pick that we took a chance on. Played some billiards. Great music selection. Got some drinks. A lot of cool art on the wall. I ordered the Breakfast Nachos and they were awesome. Definitely hit the spot for a late night snack. If I lived closer,.I'd probably make it over here more often. But def. Recommend checking this place out. They have live music as well, but not the night we stopped in. Thank You

The Goodfoot Music Extravaganza Empire was named after John Goodfoot. John was one of Portland's early emigrants who injured his left foot on the Oregon Trail, avoided dysentery, and then founded an entertainment venue on Stark Street. John is very old now. The venue is very cozy, has great shows, tasty beverages, and food upstairs. It's really swell, and you should swing by. Celebrate John by shaking your Goodfoot on the dance floor to the excellent band!

Had a great graduation night. The staff were friendly, the food delicious, and the tea plentiful. (Yes, they serve tea!)

Wow. The bathroom was cozy and had subtle notes of citrus and Mahogany. The amenities that were provided made me feel like a KING IN A CASTLE. Will definitely come back 🤴

Google
$10 for a comedy show that's actually good! It was an absolute blast and i plan on going again. It's mostly wheelchair accessible downstairs. There's a sizable lip at the beginning of the ramp, so that may be difficult. The bathroom stalls are not wheelchair sized, at least in the one i went to. Upstairs is not wheelchair accessible that i saw. I don't use a wheelchair, but it's worth noting.

Their employee who’s dressed like they’re always ready for an Elvis concert has some serious issues with emotional regulation. Most recently, I was polite and kind when ordering my food and was met with hostility and bad vibes. I made sure to say please and thank you Which was met with blank stares and unfriendly demeanor. They seem like they hate their job and are annoyed With the sheer sight of a customer. Maybe it’s because I’m black, maybe it’s because I’m gay, I’m not too sure but what I do know Is every time their behind the bar I feel uncomfortable by the way that they treat me. Please fix this b/c I’m sure I’m not the only one that has experienced their less than polite customer service. I will say the food has always been great, the overall vibe of the bar is an 8 out of 10, and The artwork is always something worth taking a second glance at. Unfortunately employees have the ability to sour the environment and this has been my experience on numerous occasions.

The bouncer is always very rude about out of state id’s. As it may seem that they are fakes we are all recent grads trying to enjoy our last summer in Portland. My friend came up to the bouncer and she was adamant that her Michigan ID was fake. She didn’t have her passport on her (of course cause why would I plan to also have another scan available) and was told to leave. This has happened multiple times. So unless you have an Oregon license consider going to another club.

Yelp
I am finally getting around to writing this review. I visited The Goodfoot on 3/25/2024 after placing a takeout order for pork shoulder nachos and chicken tenders. I am bummed about my experience and elaborate on the highs (ambiance) and lows (over cooked food; hair in it) below. When entering the restaurant, I noticed that it had a chill vibe with cool art on the walls (for sale), a couple pool tables, and pub style seating. There weren't many people there at that time but you can imagine that there may be a crowd on event nights. The food was not enjoyable that day (first time coming). The pork shoulder nachos and chicken tenders had meat that was over cooked (dry) and the ranch that came with the tenders had hair in it. I provided a picture of the receipt to confirm the order took place along with a picture of the ranch with hair in it. **Mistakes happen and I am unable to return (out of state) so I was hoping that the meal could be remedied with a refund. As for other reviewers and future attendees, I hope The Goodfoot is able to show you a great time.**

Yelp
Lmao, $10 cover on the basement? You couldn't pay me $10 to go in there again. you want me to pay money to pay more money for drinks? In this awful looking establishment? No thanks. Fine vibes tho.

Mimi C.

Yelp
good experience inside, but when we went outside to WAIT FOR AN UBER at the unoccupied business next to good foot, the bounces started harassing us to leave and kicked our friends costume, MEANWHILE it's pouring with rain. We move over to the side of the building and the one bouncer brought up she's "part native" so we couldn't sit near the gas tank area which has nothing to do with anything. Calling us names saying we're being assholes when we weren't doing anything. 0/10 wouldn't recommend this place especially if you're not white passing or the lady bouncers will come at you for just existing.

Yelp
Been wanting to go to the goodfoot since moving to SE and it was totally worth it. Super cute and great vibes. Sam the security guy was fun too chat with too!

Yelp
We showed up around 11:30 and went to the basement to dance and have drinks! The crowd was welcoming, drinks were strong and music was good! You had to pay a cover charge but it was well worth it! Parking wasn't convenient but the walk back to the car after a few stiff ones was welcoming lol! This place is a hidden gem and we loved every minute

Safia M.

Yelp
The bar service is awful. Bartenders known to be rude and disdainful to customers upon multiple occasions. The food is not good. Paid for a burger and it the burger meat was raw. Inedible. Don't bother with the upstairs, but the dancing downstairs is fun!

Dylan D.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere, amazing art on the walls. Rad free pool. Some of the best live music in town played downstairs. Kind and considerate staff. Tasty and varied food menu, lots of veggie options. Love it

Yelp
I had to stay for a couple months in Oregon so this place was nearby where I stayed at and It was pretty chill when I got there food was great on top of the great service I had

Yelp
Important local music venue but 12$ for three 3in sized chicken strips hurt me in my heart.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of the kimchee mac, I think it's the best dish on the menu. It's unbelievably flavorful. The place has very good vibes and people, and we love it every time we go.

Yelp
Sam, the doorman, was intriguing and an excellent conversationalist. Casey, the bartender was an Uber kind soda queen. Honestly, this is just a great place to come and cut a rug! They have dancing! Awesome staff! Soul music! Sign me up!

Matt L.

Yelp
My favorite spot in this neighborhood. Great music and events nightly. Friendly staff. Food here is not really my jam but the drink selections are stellar and you can't beat the atmosphere. Lounge downstairs is a cash cover during concerts; they have an atm upstairs but plan ahead to avoid fees! One dislike: I don't love wrist stamps lol

Meg S.

Yelp
Worst bar in Portland in my opinion if there was half a star it doesn't even deserve that. I was sober and have been for 3 months and I got kicked out of the bar for being "too drunk" when I don't even drink. I was being profiled by a bartender for the way I look. Horrible place, do hot Recommend.

Yelp
We came to the Goodfoot for their weekly soul night. I liked the venue and it was only a $5 cover. It was pretty empty when we came around 9:30pm, but it filled up by 11pm. It's a good space for dancing and the bar is a little bit away from the dance floor which makes it easier to get in and hear. There's also chairs and booths around the perimeter. They have a cocktail menu based on house infused liquors. I had a cucumber gin and tonic as well as a coffee infused whiskey drink. The coffee whiskey one was terrible, but the gin and tonic was okay. I think I would stick to beer here though, since the cocktails are pretty simple and hit or miss (my friends tried some others and didn't love them either). Bathrooms were clean (two stalls for women) and never that crowded. There's an upstairs lounge/bar with pool tables and tons of art on the wall - we came here for a bit before doors downstairs opened. It's also nice that The Goodfoot is next to Baby Doll pizza. You can always sober up after a night of dancing and drinking.

Yelp
Went on a summer Wednesday night, food took over 40 minutes to come out when the place was half empty and the waiter gave us lip when we asked about the status. When the food finally came out the burger was burned and the waiter blamed us for asking for a new one. DON'T GO HERE!!!

Yelp
do not order their mac n cheese. it's so unbelievably fucked up. dancing is fun tho ...!

Yelp
I have always come here a bit tipsy looking for a dance floor. A few times they have had live music and other times it has been a dj. I prefer the live music, but the djs are decent too. Most of the times they play oldies and funky jazzy dance tunes. The bar is a decent distance from the dance floor. There is always a line formed at the bar, which is strangely a Portland thing. SO if you see a line at the bar, get in it, don't walk up to the bar or be prepared for some bitch looks from bartenders and patrons alike...I wonder if they know the rest of the world does not form lines at bars. They have some decent beers in the beer cooler and on tap. I always drink Sessions beer when I come here. I don't see it in many bars in Portland. This is a good lively place if you are looking to cut a rug and have some late night drinks! Oh and there is generally a cover so bring cash!

Yelp
This has been a classic go-to place for me for years. I've seen live funk jazz and had many a date night or ladies evening or birthday shaking my thang here through the years. It's a small place with decent drinks and good people watching. It's Portland so you get people showing up decked out next to people in tie dye T-shirts and Chacos. Went this past Friday night and was a bit disappointed. At 10, the dance floor looked like a middle school dance floor: empty. The DJ was supposedly a regular, but the tired playlist and the low volume and the awkward pauses between songs made us feel like we were at a wedding reception. We stayed dancing for a few hours because we really wanted to move, and we kept hoping each song would get better. It didn't, sadly. We eventually left. Bummer. I'll be back, and try again. Maybe just not on a Friday night.

Alec R.

Yelp
I came here with my friend. It was her first time in Portland and her experience was extremely disappointing. After her experience here she did not wanna go anywhere else and we had to just stay at home. I do not recommend this place at all.
google avatar

Amani G.

Yelp
Only bar post pandemic that gives a fu:$@ please allow Sam at the door to check your vaccine cards and ID! This makes dancing and drinking inside feel safe and I can't thank the bartenders and door man enough for their efforts to give me the first night out In 18 months

Yelp
Horrible!! Im a regular customer (not anymore) We dropped one of the pool balls under the bar and when my buddy went to look for it The bartender decided not to serve us drinks anymore saying we are rude and aggressive, what the hell???? Not going there anymore
google avatar

Tess W.

Yelp
Great bar. Great beer and cider on tap. Sometimes friendly bartenders. Just depends on the day you go. Good food. A few vegan choices. Great music venue downstairs.
google avatar

Pamela S.

Yelp
We were in the area looking for a lounge and Goodfoot came up. Quirky dive spot with live music. Lots of unabashed dancing and people just enjoying themselves. Seems like a very casual venue, plenty of t-shirts and cargo shorts, some glowstick accessories. People passing around balloons through the air. Pretty much the chill vibe one imagines about Portland. Turns out we completely missed that there's an upstairs....
google avatar

Yelp
I came in late late, around 1:45am hoping to find some good fried food after a long day (Popeyes decided to close early but that's another story). I stopped by and for $10 including tip, I was handed this beautiful shining burger! What more could I have asked for? Portland is seriously lacking in late night food options, but I now know that the Goodfoot can help me out if I need something totally yummy after midnight. Thank you Goodfoot!

Dorian T.

Yelp
So you're allowed to go into the bar without a vaccination card, you're allowed to drink water without your vaccination card, but you're not allowed to drink a beer without a vaccination card... makes no sense to me. Ruined the night for my group.

Julia S.

Yelp
I just want to start with the fact that I am white, and the first time I went to goodfoot I was with two other white people and they were both extremely drunk and had no problems. I went today with a group of people who were also all drunk, and the only person turned away was a friend who is black on the basis that she looked too drunk. she was sober. We sat down and we were all really confused as the rest of us had been served except our friend. she took a sip from one of our drinks and the bartender came over and told us if she was drinking we had to leave. We all left anyways as this bartender was very clearly singling out our friend, who was not drunk, and let our white and other friends drink. I was disgusted and appalled by this bartender refusing service to our friend and will not be going back here. I read through yelp comments and see this has happened to other women, and specifically black women. A group of other people in the bar left after seeing this interaction, also disgusted. Please change this bartender to create a safe space in this bar.

Yelp
My Darling Husband and myself like to play Pool at The Goodfoot. I do not remember if my Husband liked the Cheeseburger that I bought for him.... because it's been so long ago since we were here. I ate my Cheeseburger with Swiss Cheese... it was taaasty. There was some art on the walls, and I remember walking around the room looking at most of it. It was interesting art as well... the art made me think about projects that I wanted to work on at our Condominium. We did not stay for the Music in the Downstairs part of The Goodfoot. Next time we are here, I want to taste the Hot Dog, you know... the one with Kimchi. But, primarily we were here before for the Pool Tables.

Yelp
This place is fantastic, and i feel like there is something here to please just about anybody. The upstairs has several pool tables and a decent selection of pinball games in order to provide entertainment while you enjoy your tasty adult beverage. If you are not an active drinker then there are quite a few cozy booths and tables to hull up with a group of friends. On certain nights the downstairs hosts some great music and dancing. Typically the cover charge is super reasonable. The Goodfoot is home to "Soul Stew", which they claim is Portland's longest running DJ dance night. The music is typically of the soul, funk, R&B in nature and made even better by the fact that the DJs are spinning actual records, not using computers. They have plenty of beers on tap, several hard ciders, and a full bar. Food is available upstairs and can be brought to the downstairs section if you wish. I advise getting there early to snag a table for when you need a rest from dancing. As the great James Brown would say: "They're dancing on the good foot I got to get on the good foot Got to do it on the good foot Do it with the good foot"
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
I am all about the Goodfoot!! I had no idea this place was a great music venue for local bands. The sound quality is awesome! I ventured out here a few weeks back to see the Polyrhythmics (afro-funk, based from Seattle, check 'em out!) and it was fantastic - and that is an understatement folks! The upstairs and downstairs are as different as night and day. If you want a cup of joe it is located upstairs only, had to learn the hard way on that one. I would hate to see the downstairs during the light of day (only because the seats/booths look tattered and frayed) but luckily they're only open during the evening hours. The restrooms are super clean, water is easily accessible, and beautiful art is plastered all over the walls. Needless to say, the Goodfoot Lounge is a great place to get your dance on and see some live music.
google avatar

Yelp
While visiting Portland for a weekend, a friend and I were told that this was the place to be for live music and fun for a Saturday night. We decided to give it a try. We came in and were charged a cover (that's okay with us - cover = something must be cool in here!). It was packed. We were told we could check our coats at the bar. Upon visiting the bar, we were told coat check was full (??????). There were coats and jackets laying all over the lounge. There was a live performance going on, but the music wasn't great. This place was packed. The drinks were cheap and flowing, but the well drinks had pretty low end liquor. There's a bar area, lounge seating and a dance floor. We visited all three, and they were alright. If it weren't for the cover, we would have left and tried to find something else immediately. Definitely just didn't have a good vibe the entire time we were here.

Yelp
The art upstairs blows my mind. With such an abundance of talent it's amazing to see what these walls will be covered up with. I look forward to the art of music maintenance show that they do every year. Artwork featuring a ton of different bands and conveniently around the holidays hint hint. They have Medieval Madness, $5.25 BLTs, Silver Jews American Water on the juke for free and my favorite smoking area in town for sure. What else could a person need? I really dig this place!

Yelp
The Goodfoot is a clean dive and a dirty dive. But it is not really a dive in that it doesn't have a diverse crowd. More beardy dready concentration than most spots. Upstairs is the cleaner, more well lit, spacious bar with pool tables and art on the wall. Sandwich meals. There are booths and tables by the several pool tables for friends to gather in groups. Downstairs is the dirty friendly dive with music, often with a cover. Music starts later and goes way later. Get foods up stairs or next door. They have funk DJ's, live funky rock, Afrobeat. It has dank carpets, funky restrooms and worn seats. But they do have a hardwood dance floor that gets used and is often packed. Sometimes even a cypher will break out to the side on the carpet. It can get very sweaty, seek out the zones with ventilation if you are steaming, or chill outside and chat. If there was a fire, everyone would die escaping. True mark of a dive. But the crowd doesn't seem to mind. The Goodfoot has an art program, opening shows of paintings, drawings and prints for sale upstairs every last Thursday of the month. It's urban, outsider, and pop surrealism --style, and inexpensive. Primarily Portland artists. They cover a huge amount of wall space, it can be visually overwhelming! Solidly recommended for dancing downstairs and hanging upstairs!

Yelp
I'm not mad, just disappointed. Let me begin with I LOVE Goodfoot and we are next door neighborz. I regularly attend Funk Friday, cover bands like Boyz 2 Gentlman, Talking Dreads (etc) and play pool in the lounge. Unfortunately, for the 3rd time, I was denied entry to said bar because they said my Illinois ID was fake. I spoke with 5 different managers before my ID was compared to a fake Illinois ID and proved to be real. After presenting an Alyssa museum (3 credit cards, 1 new and 1 expired healthcard, a receipt with my name on it and multiple social media accounts) I was finally let into the bar to boogie. The argument was made that I should have an OR ID by now, but what happens when my best friends from IL with their fake looking IDs come to visit, they be deprived of the funk?! Through my experience, not one employee laughed at my jokes or even made me feel comfortable! I understand this is a serious topic but c'mon it's friday night and I'm fucking 23 years old. I thought this was Goodfoot, not Badfoot!!!!!!!! Also BABYDOLL next door has NEVER questioned my identity and ALWAYS provides the best pizza in town. *My advice to Goodfoot is, if you're going to deny entry for "fake IDs" get a legit system that recognizes real vs. fake IDs!!

Yelp
OK I've held off on my review thus far because I had only tried the upstairs part. Plenty of bar grub, lots of fried things, and the kitchen is open late. Hooray for drunk people grub. Cheap prices, late happy hour, check. Now, downstairs is of course where the music is. Find a band you like, support them, and drink some of the cheapest drinks in town. Doesn't suck. Great vibe, fun people. Sound is also really good because, newsflash, they have a SOUND GUY, and isn't that just a treat? Caviat - if you don't smoke, you will have to go thru a smoke haze just to get in the building. This bar is no exception, people who smoke just choose to do it RIGHT outside the door - or on the sidewalk - both of which you must walk thru if you are going in or out. Typical of the bar scene, so know that I warned you and don't be bitchy because this place is no exception.

Yelp
Whenever I am in Portland, I seem to find myself at The Goodfoot. I have been here twice. Both times for the music and once for the food! Each time I felt comfortable and had a great time drinking and eating with friends. I enjoy the lay out of this place. There are 2 levels and it's pretty spacious. The upstairs featured salon-style art throughout each wall. Throughout my trip there i kept craving falafel and while at The Goodfoot I encountered their falafel plate. It hit the spot! They serve food until late in the night and the people that work there are very friendly.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been going here since we found it in Summer '08 when I was looking online for cool places to eat and drink outside with the doggie. Turns out there are a few cool places with good outdoor seating right next to this one as well. But back to Goodfoot. The outdoor seating consists of several large wooden picnic tables, and is placed well for light, on the South side of the building. Service is prompt and friendly, you just need to go in and let them know you're out there. I believe they also need to keep an ID at the register, to prevent the ol' dine n' dash, because they don't have windows to see the outdoor tables. Took my mom to eat outside here one time, she loved it and invited me and my man to go several times after. When it comes to the inside, never been to the lower level... didn't even know they had one! This is probably because if you give me some beer and free pool (during HH and all day Sun + Mon) I'm set! They have a good number of pool tables, so there's usually one open with no wait. Always been a fan of places that do an early & late Happy Hour, but Goodfoot throws us a nice curveball with some really kick butt hours from 5pm - 9pm. Not too early & not too late means you're less likely to miss the good stuff, because nothing is worse than JUST missing Happy Hour, eww. I think in the past it was only till 7pm (which was still pretty good) but the food was cheaper... hmm... Now the HH food specials are $5, which is around $1 off regular price. Still a good deal for what you get in my book. Good drink prices, plus, there's free pool and jukebox during those hours. Yay! I usually order the Wild Alaskan Salmonburger, since I'm always looking for an excuse to eat good seafood on the cheap, and at $6 reg, it's not the most expensive thing on the menu. The Garden of Eden Burger ($6.50) is quite nice, with tasty addons to the plain ($5.50 reg) Gardenburger. Quesadilla, love it, Grilled cheese, super cheesey & good. The late night menu bean dip was meh.... but we'll let that one slide. Wish they had nachos, but maybe they're taking a stand. But hey, they have "cubic butt-ton" and "keepin' it real" printed on the menu along side a good ol' PB&J, gotta be a good place, right? Oh, and super clean femme bathroom, large mirror, 2 sinks, 2 stalls. One is handicapped size.... for some reason, don't think this place is wheelchair friendly... with all the stairs to get in... hmm.. Men's bathroom's not too bad either, my boyfriend says he's never had an issue with them.

Yelp
Good music of the live kind usually more on the blues, jam, folk, reggae and experimental side. on fridays a dj dance party with funk, soul, disco vinyl. Good artwork hung inna salon style with artwork curated for the experimental art, street art, paintings and sculpture of that style, plus two yearly shows to look forward to. in december "The art musical maintenance" a show/concert poster show, and "Vinyl Killers" a show where the medium is applied to all vinyl records ... cool staff i have nothing but great experiences with the staff. lotsa good beer specializing in local brew and good olde' trusty liquor, coffee (you'll be surprised how many bars don't have coffee) , and good food, i specially like the burger with everything on it, cheese, egg, bacon, avocado, grilled onions... the menu also has a couple veggie options.

Yelp
What a little gem this is. Great food and even greater beer, and you'd never guess it! The people are nice and the service is quick. A wonderful place for a date night!

Yelp
Goodfoot Pub & Lounge is a unassuming gem. I know years ago, some friends were regulars here for dancing and live music in the downstairs portion of the bar. Those memories are foggy. I've recently become re-acquainted with Goodfoot. They open upstairs for regular bar business 5pm on, great draft beer selection, food, and open area for seating, local art on the walls, and pinball. Downstairs usually opens at 9pm for live shows of assorted genres. Food is legit. I recently had a Portobello Mushroom sandwich, reasonable sized portion and tater tots on the side. I was here for a brewery party and saw all sorts of food being ordered and consumed. Everyone seemed happy. Their beer taps are duplicated downstairs to, where the live music takes place. Both upstairs and downstairs have a similar dark, divey, eclectic vibe. No table service. Street parking. Outdoor tables on sidewalk. Flyers decorate the bar announcing future shows. No covers on Tuesdays for the music.

Yelp
Terrible staff. Bouncers who pick fights with costumers treating them with zero respect. None of us will be returning.

Yelp
Great place for a burger (though a tad over cooked), dancing dudes, and random conversation! Super hip, hop, dip, dop, artsy fartsy!

Yelp
4 stars upstairs, 3 stars downstairs. Been here during daylight hours and then at midnight for Soul Stew (which is a weird mix of old timey music that feels very much like I was in a black church, except i was surrounded by white hipsters. As I said, weird) I was hoping for more danceable disco but in the 2 hours I was there, it wasn't happening. And I'm no DJ but transition from song to song was awful. It wasn't smoothly mixed AT ALL. I liked that there's fans and A/C right above the dancefloor so it doesn't get totally suffocating. i like the venue but the Soul Stew thing was disappointing. I'll try one of their other dance nights. Upstairs is just a regular spacious bar with funky local art on the wall, pool tables, pinball machines and some cool cocktails that they have posted on their chalkboard that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Service is pretty prompt and drinks are strong. Haven't tried the food yet so i can't comment on that. A pretty cool place to hang out.

Yelp
I have been coming to the Goodfoot since I was 21. So about 12 years. I have always had pretty great times in the basement. However I must have never ordered anything but a beer or cider. The last two times I have been, I ask the bartender to make an old fashioned. Which is probably one of the easiest and oldest drink recipes. First I was in the basement about a month ago, and was told they could not make an old-fashioned. I thought that it was just because they were busy and only wanted to make 2 ingredient drinks. So I got a whiskey and ginger. Then, last night for a friends birthday I tried to again order an old fashioned in the bar upstairs. I was told by the bartender that he couldn't make an old-fashioned because he didn't have vermouth. I kindly informed him that an old fashion doesn't actually have vermouth in it, and that he just needs some butter, sugar or simple syrup, an orange and maybe a cherry. He had none of these. Not even simple syrup. What kind of bartender has no idea how to make an old-fashioned and doesn't have vermouth or simple syrup behind the bar?! My partner asked the other bartender how long this guy was a bartender and apparently he's gotten by for the last 10 years without actually knowing how to make anything. Incredible! We were told that this probably wasn't the bar for us. He's probably right... I'm sad to say it seems the Goodfoot is just appealing to the drunken dancing masses and their whiskey Coke or vodka cranberry etc. but don't count on the bartender knowing that that's also called a seabreeze. Go for the music or pool/pinball not for the bar!

Yelp
I want to thank the management at The Goodfoot for taking seriously concerns made regarding another dancer's unwanted *attention* on the dance floor. Five stars for keeping your space safe.

Yelp
The Goodfoot is something between a bar and a club in Southeast Portland. It excels in both roles. Beer is the thing to get here. Kudos to the Goodfoot for their well-planned list of beers. On tap, they have a fine selection of microbrews, plus Session as their standard lager! Seriously, I wish more area bars did this--Session is simple, but unequivocally good and locally made. The bartenders here sell all their beers by the pitcher as well as by the pint, making it an ideal place for groups, particularly when it gets busy. $12 for Session pitchers, $17 for the other microbrews. I've got to hand it to the bartenders here--even though it's a loud place and frequently crowded, they're always quick on the draw, serving up pints, pitchers, tallboys, and cocktails with a cheerful efficiency. The Goodfoot was meant for hanging out at the peak of the night. The cavernous upstairs of this bar is a raucous place, with pool tables, pinball machines, and huge booths for you and all your friends. The sound system plays a good mix of rock and hip-hop, depending on the night. Most recently, they were leaning heavily on the Velvet Underground, which worked really well with the acoustics of the place. While it's definitely loud upstairs, it's not oppressively so, so conversation is still more than possible here. The feel is very cool, in a rock star kind of way. Not hip, just cool. There's nothing ironic about it, and that's a good thing. Saunter up to a pool table with your friends and you'll see what I mean. If you venture downstairs to the basement, you'll find someplace completely different. It's a nightclub with low ceilings, close quarters, and a wild, sweaty vibe. While they have music down there every night, the best time to come is on Friday nights for their funk and soul night. Normally, there's a DJ, who spins a fine mix of original tunes and remixes, old and new. James Brown, Sam Cooke, Erykah Badu, P-Funk, and J.D. McPherson, among others. Every now and then, though, there's a live act. Both of these shows draw huge crowds for good reason. Normally, I'm not one for dancing in a club, but I just love how much the crowd gets into the music here. And it's good music that's actually danceable, too! The GoodFoot is fun in so many ways. From its good beer to its rock 'n roll temperament, from its phenomenal Friday music to its variety of hangout spaces, it's a real party. My compliments to the hosts!

Yelp
So much fun! Who would have thought throwing on some dancing shoes on a Tuesday night would end up with a legendary hangover come Wednesday morning. I'm a big fan of dark spaces..and the Good Foot (downstairs at least) is dark and dim and very much like you're going to a basement house show, it feels sneaky and sexy all at once! Can't remember who was playing last night, but holy moly..totally incredible. Nothing like being 2 steps away from a big brass band with some of your favorite people. Drinks were pretty reasonable, and my whiskey + Coke was more whiskey than Coke. Water is also self serve and on tap, which is helpful to note when up is been groovin all night.

Yelp
Went there for a drink and to see a band comprised of Jill Scott & Funkadelic's back up band members but was early being doors opened downstairs at 9pm. Went upstairs to have a few drinks and enjoyed the hell out of myself while admiring the artwork and great music playing out the speakers. Bartenders were friendly and cute. Then went downstairs to enjoy the show and had a blast. Great sound and atmosphere for a basement and the drinks were not to high. Beer and a shot for $11. Highly recommended if you can catch a show or just wanna lounge for a few.

Yelp
Woo! This place is so fun!! But first let me tell you, there are TWO levels! The main door takes you upstairs to the pool hall and greater bar area. It's nicely lit, with cool stuff on the walls, and plenty of standing/table/bar space. And bathroom. And a guy checking IDs. We made the mistake of going up there and were like uhhh what happened to the stage? Where is the band supposed to play?! So we asked. They play downstairs! silly mus. If you face the building and go to the right side, there is a door that looks kinda sketch that will lead you downstairs into this dark tunnel and into a short ceilinged dark dark room. Which is super cool! This is where the band plays. There is a small bar but there are tables and places to sit. And a "dance" floor that's right up against the flat stage. We saw High and Mighty Brass Band and they were SO GOOD! The acoustics were great. so loud and fun! If you want to keep your hearing, maybe bring ear plugs, lol We absolutely cannot wait to go back! The drink prices are fair. Not cheap and not expensive. They have a few specialty cocktails and some microbrews (typical.) So I think this is a great place for anyone, upstairs or down!

Yelp
I would stay far away from this place. The bar tender with the long beard is an absolute racist and predjudice against Californians. I'm a white male, walked in the first time and ordered a drink no problem, then I left to pick up my wife (she is black) and when I returned with her and a couple other friends (one of which was also black) he refused to serve me a drink unless all 13 people in our party showed their ID's. I then went to each one and retrieved their ID's, upon placing them on the counter he also said they all needed to be at the bar and lined up... at this point I got agitated at his resistance to serve someone associated with a black female (two happened to be in our group, one being my wife), and he started to snap at me and I then told him to forget about the bottle of beer I wanted to purchase, and our whole party left because of his gross prejudice. Terrible experience.
