"The Gorgeous Gael, a longstanding Rice Village Irish pub has officially shuttered. A announcement posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page indicates that the establishment would close on Sunday, September 30, citing “unforeseen circumstances that are not within our influence or control.” The pub had been located in Rice Village for nearly two decades, previously known as Brian O’Neill’s before rebranding four years ago to its latest iteration. The overhaul included a complete menu revamp to more elevated fare, plus an interior renovation to move away from the dark interiors ubiquitous in many Irish pubs." - Alaena Hostetter

Gorgeous Gael is a great place to get drinks and break bread. Open, spacious, most awesome staff and management, I can go on. The food is great for a quick bite. Nothing crazy fancy but fun! Crowd is a bit young at night but they so show EPL games in the daytime. The local Liverpool fan club has watch parties here. The area is very conducive to bar hopping.

This place was so yummy! Will be going back. I odered the short run sliders. So good! I definitely recommend them.

Superb place. The best bar in rice by a country mile and up there with the best in Houston. Nicely set in Rice Village, it's a perfect place to enjoy drinks on a patio after walking round the shops or having a meal locally, or just for their incredible happy hours in the sun. They frequently have live music on and run plenty events, great for sport too. Consistently good food from brunch though to late night snacks. The bar staff are friendly, serving a nice mix of young and old giving it a great atmosphere. The owners care, always there to make sure everyone is looked after and happy, what more can you want? Regularly attend and regularly recommend! If you're looking to escape the havoc of midtown and looking for a more relaxed night in a good atmosphere and nice setting, look no further. I'll be at the bar, you can buy me a drink for the recommendation...

The Gael is now the life and soul of Rice village. The atmosphere is great and the staff very personable, it feels like a local with a sense of community even in the city. They hold plenty of events, great for watching sports, brilliant live acoustic sets on the patio every Friday evening, and long happy hours with some hard to beat specials everyday. The owners are Irish and they've turned this beautiful bar into a true gem, even if it's hard to understand their accent, they always greet you with a smile. Highly recommended for a group or a couple, whatever the age. Keep it up guys!

I sometimes go here to watch soccer matches weekend mornings. The bartenders are quick and pleasant (even in the morning) and the food is good. It's clean, brightly lit bar with lots of tables. You can sit or stand if you like. If you want someplace that feels family friendly and bright then come to the Gael!

Terrible service. It took over 15 minutes to just get a drink order on a seemingly slow Friday night (about half the tables were empty with a spotty bar top). The girl who sat us ended up circling back after deciding our waitress had too many tables. Had a few other waitresses walk by a number of times over the 15 minutes. Food was pretty good. I got the Shepherds Pie and it was mostly mash potatoes without a lot of stew. Friend got the beef stew which was a more generous portion with nice tender need cutlets. Beer selection is lacking. Go across the street if you want anything but your standard fair of Guinness, Smithwicks or Bass.

The food was much better than I expected, considering the place looks likes it's more geared to drinks. There is a fairly wide beer selection too. The waiter was helpful in serving our fairly large party.

From out of town looking for a pub for some good beer and shepherds pie. Sat down outside waited 10 minutes no wait staff even glances my way. Finally someone comes over I ask for menu and beer list, never see him again. Far more of a restaurant vibe than a real Pub. If you want a REAL PUB head south 2 buildings to the GINGER MAN (about 1 minute away) like I did. Great Beer selection and GOOD WAIT STAFF
