"Prince Charles spent much of his childhood at the Queen Mother’s Castle of Mey. No wonder then that His Royal Highness was keen to share the area’s wild magic, opening this charming B&B last year. It is housed in a renovated 17th-century granary, with ten elegant bedrooms, blazing fires and deliciously comfortable living rooms with sea views. The dining room is enchanting and low key, filled with a collection of antique grandfather clocks – as beautiful as you would expect. But a highlight of a stay here is the unparalleled access to the nearby castle and gardens for after-hours tours or a private dinner party in the royal dining room."

A Glimpse Inside Prince Charles’s Cozy Scottish Bed and Breakfast | Vogue

"Renovated by the Prince’s Trust, Charles’s foundation, The Granary Lodge is a cozy getaway in Caithness, Scotland. On May 1, the prince himself officially opened the property, which is located on the grounds of the Castle of Mey. It has just 10 bedrooms—two of them suites—all with different decor styles and details. There’s a drawing room with views overlooking the North Sea and Orkney, where a fire is always crackling. A warm homemade breakfast, comprised of local ingredients, greets guests every morning." - Elise Taylor

As soon as I heard about this place in the shadow of the Queen Mum's Castle I had to go. I was not disappointed. Room was large and comfortable and the en-suite roomy. Breakfast, although not cooked, was well done! My wife and and I relaxed in the sitting room each night with our favorite dram. Staff was great and we added on the private tour of the castle - wow! Definitely did not disappoint and trying to figure out how to go back! Location was close to lots of things to do on the north shore.

My husband and I were thoroughly spoiled during our stay at The Granary Lodge in Mey. I wish we had been able to stay more than one night. The room was lovely and well-appointed. We were arriving late and so we had preordered dinner in. The staff is very attentive to food allergies. The food is outstanding - the breakfast the next day was as good as the dinner the night we checked in. We also booked a private tour of Castle Mey for the morning of checkout. The Granary staff made sure we knew where to meet our guide and they were happy to store our luggage for us during the tour. The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive throughout our stay. We will long remember having breakfast in the beautiful breakfast room, looking out onto the water and the field of cattle. A wonderful experience!

This is a lovely spot to spend time. The lounge and dining areas have fantastic views out to sea. The bedrooms are tastefully appointed with large beds and generous proportions. It looked to us that only room 8 had sea views. We were the only guests when we stayed and what a treat to have the place to ourselves. We ordered the platters for dinner and spent a very pleasant evening in the lounge. The food (platters and breakfast) is nice enough but not special. Apart from porridge there are no cooked options. Staff were a delight.

Our overnight at this wild and beautiful spot on the northern Scottish coast, below the fabulous Castle of Mey was made extra special by the staff - especially James (Jim) who guided us so knowledgeably through the castle and Michael who looked after us in the lodge sitting room. Our rooms were quiet, beautifully lit and appointed, warm as toast and spotlessly clean. We walked down to the beach, looked across to the Orkney Isles and collected shells, just as the Queen Mother did in her day there. Gin and Dubonnets and hot chocolates were the order as our day drew to a close. Absolutely magic! Thanks to all.

A lovely quiet location behind The Castle of Mey. The Queens Mothers residence when she was in Scotland. King-sized bed in a well-appointed room with ensuite. Great selection for a conternentail breakfast. A splendid room with games books etc that you can enjoy with a glass of wine or a cold ale||

I have always wanted to visit the Castle of Mey and staying here made the whole experience perfect. Very comfortable, lovely staff and excellent breakfast. A continental breakfast but everything on offer was good.|Book early for dinner in the vicinity as places close by are in demand.

The Granary Lodge was a Unique place to stay! The location was stunning with unspoilt views over the Pentland Firth to the Island of Orkney beyond. There were magnificent sunrises and sunsets both days and a plus was seeing the brightly lit liners pass in the distance. Waking up to the glorious sunset was a treat but to be greetings by the heard of beautiful yet inquisative Aberdeen Angus cattle in the nearby fields was relaxing and a plus point. Close by (a few hundred yards in fact )is the Castle of Mey.This pretty Castle with beautifully kept gardens was one the home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and inside the Lodge you can walk along The Queen Monther Corridor which features man framed photographs of her Kate Majesty during her visits to the castle and Caithness. The decor inside the Lodge is what one might expect of a property like this. Tasteful and comfortable furnishing in the guest lounge and beautiful guest suites. The dining room is spacious and like the rest of the Lodge is kept in immaculate order by the attentive, professional and helpful staff. The food was of high quality and beautifully presented. Our stay was made complete by a visit to the nearby Castle of Mey. We felt safe, welcome and valued during our stay and will return in the future. Thank you Evelyn and your team.
