"A long-vacant 1890s Victorian house and adjoining brick storefront in the Hubbard Richard is being refurbished into a daytime restaurant and cafe by the team behind a nearby bistro. Positioned to open later this year, the project is still under construction and the owner is still recruiting a chef; plans focus on breakfast and lunch staples, on-site baked goods from pastry chef Camrey Smith, and a coffee program led by general manager Joel Jones (an Eater Award recipient known for menus blending beer, wine, tea, coffee and cocktails with influences drawn from French culture and its global legacy). The space includes a full kitchen (unlike the owner’s other bistro), seating for about 30 people, and potential outdoor seating on an adjacent lot; it will open initially without a liquor license but may pursue one later. The interior will be developed by the owner’s wife, a designer who shaped the aesthetic of the prior restaurant, and the ownership hopes the cafe will fill a local gap for daytime meeting and co-working spots. The owner’s background in real estate — including a widely reported 2021 landlord–tenant lawsuit that was dismissed — is part of the context around the expansion." - Serena Maria Daniels
