The 16 Best Bars In Long Beach

"Most people come to Grasshopper for a chill drink in a room that feels like a set piece from Mad Men. But this bar offers more than just a solid Old Fashioned and leather booths. Around 9pm, a DJ starts spinning a range of house, cumbia, and old-school funk music and by 10pm, the bar transforms into one big dance floor. The disco ball near the back adds a glamorous touch, and the big backyard is perfect to cool off after a long night of dancing. " - brant cox, nikko duren

Been coming here since they opened, often with friends who DJ or join us for a fun night out. But our most recent visit? Absolutely unacceptable. We came with a big group—easily 20 people throughout the night—and noticed something shady. The female barback repeatedly grabbed our drinks while they were still full and bolted off with them. This didn’t feel accidental—it came off like a calculated move to get us to keep buying more. It happened to multiple people we were with. When we flagged it with the bartender, the response was incredibly dismissive. They offered a single comped drink for the whole group, as if that made up for multiple stolen ones worth over $100. Later, when some of us went to close out and raise the issue again, the bartender literally waved us off mid-sentence and walked away. Completely rude and unprofessional. Avoid!

Google
Thanks for the sanitary explanation! I'll update my review. Drinks are good. The bartender was good and fast. The patio is a nice touch, except it closes early and everyone has to move inside. Parking is typical for the location. The store behind the bar wants $10 to use their lot... Saw a pizza oven outside but got there too late to try it out. A taco stand would be gangbusters! Not a dive bar, they put care into the atmosphere.

Came in with some friends. The drinks are fairly priced and Friday night was more of a Latin night. Good atmosphere depending what's going on.

Google
Great place to go off the beaten path. A little pricey but the service makes up for it. They genuinely care about your experience and having a great time and enjoying yourself. If you are looking for a change of pace this is a great choice.

Google
Didn't know what to expect from the outside. Bar was a recommendation from a friend. inside is very nice, cozy, nice decor and finishings, clean bathroom that continues the theme, outside patio with heaters. Service was good and no complaints with the drinks. price was very affordable. Would go again.

Google
Good spot with chill vibes and an even better bartender. 10/10 would recommend

Google
This is a review for my most recent experience here (10/6). I had such a great time here on Cumbia night the week prior (9/28) that I brought other friends here most recently. The staff that night was outstanding. Great service, especially the bartender closest to dj booth kept the drinks coming fast and with a great attitude. The dj (a pair of women) kept the crowd moving and having a blast. Fast forward a week later and the staff is terrible. No drinks for 20 minutes and the entire bar is waiting for a drink. Look down the line and see no hope of having one. The staff has a miserable attitude, particularly the bearded man nearest the dj booth. The bartender with a "brujeria" hat was the only one with a sense of urgency. The dj (house dj) that night could simply not read the crowd and i unfortunately looked very silly to my friends about this spot that I had previously praised so highly.

The tequila mint/cucumber and (maybe) aloe cocktail with lime was awesome!

Yelp
Love this spot This is my idea of the type of bar I like, a classy dive with great classic cocktails, chill vibe, dim lit and good music. We came in on a 90s country night and it was so fun! Can't wait to come back in.

Yelp
This place has the best drinks The bartenders are super chill and the music is awesome they have all kind of different theme nights Cumbia nights are my favorite Thw place is small but super chill Also they have pizza outside waldos and it's chefs kiss
google avatar

Chuck R.

Yelp
Overpriced and attitudes. These people hate skateboarders. I live around the corner and skated up and was told no skateboarders allowed. Never been back

Yelp
Bouncers will kick you out before the blatant amount of patrons doing coke in the bathroom, just because you "drank too much"( which would be valid if they didn't already hit on you before last call) or didn't entertain them hitting on you. Stay away if you have a discerning vagina or don't partake in bathroom stimulants.

Yelp
Great environment, the specialty drinks are good, the staff was great (Thanks Tony and Savanna) and the vibe was dope!! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Lilia S.

Yelp
The ambiance and music selection were great. Super chill crowd and the drinks were super good. I also lost my wallet that night in there, went back the next day and they had it there. Such a good feeling. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is immaculate. They've got Nacho Libre on the TV, classic Latin American music on the DJ, and a sparkly ceiling!! The bartenders are so chill and attentive! They also brought the vibes up to 3000. It was my first time at this place and now I'm determined to be a regular. Their cocktails range from $12-$14 with $10 house specials! I really liked their tequila and mezcal based drinks! They had a great variety. The inside is magical but the ambience outside was just as dope. They've got heat lamps on, succulents decor, and a food truck out front. I loved it here!
google avatar

Yelp
Drinks were good, but I was charged an automatic 20% gratuity for ordering multiple drinks at the bar. Is automatic gratuity for the number of drinks a thing now? I don't know how I feel about an automatic 20%. The receipt was printed with a tip line, but it seemed odd when it said "Additional Tip." The bartender didn't let me know that the tip would be automatically added.
google avatar

Yelp
This bar has been on my "Go to" list for a while. Bar hopped Long Beach and this was our last spot. The vibes are immaculate. Small parking lot but thats why I Uber lol. Small cozy and dim lighted bar with great music. The drinks are very well crafted. Old fashions and watermelon margaritas were a true chefs kiss. Saturday night and only 2 people being bartenders, it definitely needs 3 because ordering a drink takes a while due to how busy they are. We had so much fun and can't wait to be back.

Yelp
This place is super cool!!! I feel like I'm back in New York I'm the 70s. Music is pretty fun as well the djs know how to fit the vibe. And the bartenders are also great! One hell of a drink and boy do they work hard? I stared sweating just watching savanna!!! What a woman!!! Give them all a raise!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Let's keep yelp real!!! This place is a vibe, for me it fits the Long Beach mood. The neighborhood is a bit edgy but once you find parking and drink you forget about your car. I would honestly rate this bar a 4.8/5 because every time I've been here it takes a while to get acknowledged and order your drink from a sometimes grouchy bartender;) So be patient and order 2 up front. The menu is curated and the drinks are well crafted. I've been here on Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun nights its always a good time. There is always a theme ranging from 90's RnB to Cumbia nights, the Djs are fun, the dance floor is small but useful. Not feeling like dancing the patio is a good size and has different seating option. A great place to begin, end, or hang the whole night.
google avatar

Tash M.

Yelp
Vibe= A+ local quality dive. Barkeep was friendly. DJ was not- pretty snotty for spinning his MacBook tunes. There's a small dance floor once you get sauced enough to use it. Drinks were fine and did the job.

Yelp
Stopped in after Angel's Share closed last night. Had a great conversation with the bartender there. Really cool spot.

Mike C.

Yelp
Cool bar, great patio, most importantly cocktails were great too. I have been here a number of times now but not a regular. Bartenders have always been friendly but often a bit swamped with customers so the wait for a drink can take a bit. Last night was another great visit for a friend's birthday get together. Just want to add a note though that when closing out my tab I was surprised by the automatic 20% gratuity. So just be aware of that. Definitely should be some better communication of that up front as I was about to add a tip amount before looking over the charges which I have to admit I don't always do. Not a deal breaker for me, but think it's good information to share so that others don't get caught off guard. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
GREAT BAR! I love the ambient, and they have the most awesome ceiling, kind of made you feel like you're in space. The music is pretty awesome, I like what they play here! The only thing I would deduct a star is the loudness of the music. You literally have to scream if you want to have a conversation here. Because it's a very small bar, the music echos! Ohhh and the drinks, I highly recommend their "hotel" drink. It is good and only cost $9 during happy hour! The bartender does take a bit of time to make the drink, but I'd rather they not rush my drink cause it tastes great! As for parking, they have a small lot with some dedicated parking for the bar, but plenty of side street and meter parking nearby. Love coming over here for a good drink after a good climbing session from Long Beach Rising!
google avatar

Ereny H.

Yelp
This place is pretty good and chill vibes. They always have great Dj's spinning vinyl records and even selling some too. I really love their back outdoor patio, it's definitely relaxing and not loud. They don't have food but they have this delicious pizza you can order and bring in from right outside that I highly recommend.

Yelp
Savannah is the best bartender I've seen in years.... Great with customers and the drinks were on point!!!!!!

Tamara M.

Yelp
This place reminds me of a cool speakeasy. It's small, but has a very intimate feel. it has booths and it seems to themed in a 1920s sort of era. The bartender make great drinks, they are well balanced and to me worth the price. on the evening i arrived very early, as I like to do when ive never been to a place. the service was adequate for a bar type setting out back they served up food which I didn't try but looked delicious.

gabriela c.

Yelp
Service was great, the drinks are pretty cheap compared to other bars. I went on a Friday night and they still had plenty of room in the back to sit down and relax. Parking wasn't so great tho, I had to park around the block. I forgot to mention they have a nice dance floor as well!
google avatar

Yelp
drinks: We came in with no expectations and we loved the drinks! They have a great balance of spirit forward drinks and lighter, fruit drinks. Watermelon usually gets overpowered in cocktails, but their Rosa was perfect. I'm not sure why their namesake is at the bottom of the menu, but the grasshopper tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream so my partner loved it. They also have a food truck outside and guests were able to eat inside and get a drink. logistics: We wanted to get drinks before dinner so we came in around 6:30pm on a Saturday and were able to sit at the bar. We were visiting Long Beach and it was only a five minute walk from our airbnb, but they seem to have a very small parking lot where the food truck is.
google avatar

Claudia P.

Yelp
Ordered the Rosa. You get hit with that spice from the first sip but overall tastes great. It was busy and yet there was still someone walking around picking up the empty glasses from the tables so that was nice. Went on a Saturday, live DJ playing hip hop and r&b, but on their website it shows the different styles of music for different days. Parking is not great but we are in Long Beach so terrible parking is expected.
google avatar

Charlyann M.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the interior of this bar. There was a sparkly ceiling I loved. Cool vibe inside. But, the drinks were pricey and the crowd was youngish for my taste. The bouncers were more my type of people than the customers.
google avatar

Jane F.

Yelp
Perfect for the Long Beach scene! Vibe was amazing, DJ was dropping it and the drinks were great. Will definitely be back with the girls.
google avatar

Chanel L.

Yelp
This is the spot. Cocktails are so well crafted. The owners did a fantastic job creating a space that feels moody yet sophisticated.
google avatar

Donna R.

Yelp
Cutest little bar with a speakeasy vibe. The outside is very deceiving - this is a classic case of don't judge a book by its cover!! Gets very busy, has live music on certain days. Really just enjoyed being there. My only minus is service is hit or miss. Otherwise, very much recommend!!

Leslie O.

Yelp
Ernie (owner) was a pleasure to work with. Hosted a birthday party here and he accommodated me with everything. The bartenders were so hospitable and well organized. Great drinks, great atmosphere! P.s. I recommend going on a night themed with music you like... I personally was not into the music this particular night but they do change it weekly (I believe)

Yelp
What a fun bar! Wanted to try a new place in Long Beach and stumbled upon the grasshopper on Yelp (of course!). We weren't sure what to expect, but going in we found booths/tables all along the wall and across was the bar. It had a younger crowd than we expected and a chill bar vibe that was still fun and loud. We were able to snag a booth in the corner, which was perfect for our sized group. I stuck with my usual vodka soda which was made pretty strong, but some friends tried their cocktails which they really liked! I definitely want to come back here another time, there's even an outside area that we didn't really venture to. There's also a brewery across the street if you want to do some bar hopping!
google avatar

Bret R.

Yelp
Very cool interior with a great drinks menu. Friendly skilled bartenders I love the antique looking wall paper, sconces, and fun vintage paintings. The pisco sour is delicious.
google avatar

Martin C.

Yelp
I'm just writing a review so I know I've been here. This place is cool, playing what could be a black and white John Wayne film, or Clint Eastwood. Small bar, but compensates for nothing as the vibe is legit. The music is dancy and the place is fancy. But I came alone and too many single girls dancing in the dance floor. Nothing too approachable tho But hey had a drink and left
google avatar

Jessy R.

Yelp
A fun place! Drinks and music are always good. Staff is friendly. I will definitely keep coming to the grasshopper
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Friendly staff, our area is awesome for friends and family. Drinks are delicious and sometimes they have food vendors outside
google avatar

Eileen N.

Yelp
We thought their website promoted cool drinks so we thought we would give it a try.. It's really a dive bar with locals.. the bartender was nice however it smells like wet laundry and people were vaping and what not that I think ruined the experience and also bartender is mostly just on the phone and sitting with their feet on the counter which I thought wasn't very sanitary.
google avatar

Yelp
The bartender tonight was prejudice at minimum, sexist and misogynistic at worst! I went to this establishment tonight and the bartender, while I will acknowledge he was overwhelmed...he intentionally singled me out, after ignoring me, and serving multiple people behind me before me. Then after me waiting patiently for 20 minutes, when he came to me he said, "Thanks for waiting, you were the only one with an attitude." I said nothing to him! I have never been treated so poorly and with such disrespect in my life! I will never come here again, moreover -- I will post on my TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram! I will not take this level of disrespect, ever! I will do you everything in my power to make sure not one person from my community, any of my followers, or any Gen-Z I know ever comes in here ever again. **The bartender is prejudice at minimum, sexist and misogynistic at worst.** He didn't say anything like this to anyone in the bar beside me...this was intentional! These is not a bar that serves the LB community! There is no place for this kind of treatment here! It's unforgivable!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
been here twice and I tried giving this place the benefit of the doubt but nah it's pretty mid. As someone who's worked in food/customer service I understand how overwhelming it can get but the 2 times I went it was pretty empty (I can see why now lol) and I was ignored both times when trying to order which was annoying. And the drinks weren't worth the visit, wouldn't recommend place gives off pretentious vibes.

Sharna W.

Yelp
Came here for the first time tonight. Savannah is our bartender and she is amazing! She knows her drinks and did an amazing job with recommendations! Thank you Savannah! We'll def be back!
google avatar

Anya M.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect venue to host a private event. The pricing felt very fair/reasonable for a full bar buy-out. Ernie and his team were easy to communicate with, coordinated with our caterer, and ensured they stocked the liquor we were looking for. The bar layout/patio area is optimal for having areas where you can lounge and chat that don't feel overtaken by the music/dance floor. We were no in way ready to leave when the hour of 2 a.m. rolled around.
google avatar

guillermo g.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and Amazing drinks! Place was busy but the bartenders were still getting drinks out a quick pace. They had time to answer a few questions about the drinks and even shared how some of the drinks were inspired. Really cool place place to have in Long Beach and definitely would recommend for anyone visiting!
google avatar

G M.

Yelp
This was my first time here. It's a cool spot! Great ambiance, clean and didn't have a dive bar feel. The drinks were really good and I was impressed with the clear blocks of ice. The outside patio was cool too. The bouncer was kinda rude though. My buddy and I were smoking a cigar and then he walks up to us and turns off the heater and says the patio is closed and walks around and shuts off the other heaters and made everyone jump up and go inside. He could have just said finish up your cigar and the patio will be closing in 15 mins.

Dale H.

Yelp
3 hours to go to the Grasshopper today, but they say it's private party I cannot come in yet only 3 cars in parking lot. I arrive at midnight. Their ad says open til 2:am?

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
I love the grasshopper! Don't let the looks deceive you, it might look like a while in the wall but this place is awesome. Best nights are weekends as they have DJ and vendors catering food! Drinks are amazing and the staff is always attentive to all customers
google avatar

Veronica M.

Yelp
Nice little spot with AMAZING drinks and super busy. Even though it was crowded and busy we still got amazing service and the drinks were top notch! I recommend trying their Pisco Punch, super delicious.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
This was a nice chill place to go. I was able to talk to the person I was with and the staff was friendly. Very cool and chill.

William S.

Yelp
Great place, good drinks and atmosphere. I would definitely come back. Wasn't crowded at all.
google avatar

Angelica G.

Yelp
After having dinner in Long Beach, we stopped by The Grasshopper for Sunday Cocktails, Soul and Reggae. We arrived at 3pm and found the last parking spot on the street and snagged it. I can tell parking can be tough. We walked in and security warmly greeted us. We sat at the bar, with plenty of seating in the whole bar. Our bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the best Old Fashion I have had to date, with in house made bitters and the cherries, oh so good! We listed to the dj spinning vinyl and bought a record from an artist that was there selling them. We stayed for 3 cocktails then went home. It was a chill vibe, I am sure the nightlife is a little more upbeat, but it was the perfect relaxing ambiance for a date
google avatar

Arthur L.

Yelp
Nicely renovated building. Green outside, lively with music and well set up bar inside. You can tell you're in real bar with mixologists because they have fruit that's been peeled on the bar, herbs, and garnishments. They make excellent drinks here and have a good selection to choose from. The ambiance is is dark with ambiant lighting and seating to get close and have conversations over well made drinks. Definitely will return

Yelp
"Stepping in a rhythm to a Kurtis Blow Who needs to think when your feet just go? With a hippie-the-hip and a hippie-the-hop Who needs to think when your feet just go?" -Tom Tom Club "The Genius of Love" This cozy bar quickly sneaked into an open place in my warm, thumping heart. The coolest painting of an enchanting looking woman hangs in the back of the space. My feet did mot stick to the floor, so The Grasshopper staff values cleaning. Nothing in the layout of the space created overcrowding or congestion. The DJ booth area sits far from the bar. A lot of good, simple choices were brought to life in the architecture of this particular locust. I caught the tail end of DJ Hector Waluwayo's Fidelity High set. He is known for his regular Funky Sole event at The Echo, and the LBC local crate diggers respect his relatively new record store Twelves. DJ Hector Waluwayo definitely had a good set going before I came in. A gaggle of funky LBC folks were cutting serious rugs after midnight. DJ Hector mixed in Otis Redding and Carla Thomas, War, James Brown, and The Mary Jane Girls. I hope the management went over its insurance policy on the dancefloor prior to Hector's set. He brought all comers a night of serious foot stomping music. The local patrons made the night that much better. A group of guys and dolls made my acquaintance; one of their ranks bought a delish pickleback that certainly cruised smoothly down my thirsty tubes. I believe they referred to me simply as "track suit guy." I came to dance, drink, and carry on. I guess somebody picked up on my vibe.
google avatar

Corbin D.

Yelp
decent drinks, gets busy but overall pretty fun. big patio which is nice if you smoke cigs and drink cold beers
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
A fun little bar! I like the modern style interior and the layout of the bar. This side of town is definitely changing for the better. They have a dance floor and an outdoor patio area with plenty of seats. Small parking lot but there is lots of parking on the street. Drink prices were reasonable. They have a DJ, but I wonder if they'll do live music on that patio someday? (hint to management)

Dusty S.

Yelp
Cool spot. Very clean. Good drinks. Chill vibe inside. Popped in for a couple and enjoyed myself
