The Great Indian - Review - Archway - London - The Infatuation

"The Great Indian in Archway continues the trend of pub-restaurants, which look more like the latter. Expect Indian dishes like tamarind prawn dosa and degh dal makhani, plus marble tabletops that have never met a water ring. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

I hadn't heard of The Greeat Indian until hours before we decided to visit. The reviews and menu made it a no brainer to visit. The food was outstanding. I can't flaw anything even if tried. Their butter chicken tasted like the individual chicken pieces had been cooked tandoor oven. So it had that unique taste and every piece of chicken was packed full of flavour. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Even the cocktails were very good. I will be back to try them rest of the menu. I can't recommend The Great Indian enough.

From the moment we walked in, the experience felt warm, welcoming and incredibly well thought out. What really stood out was the food, it strikes that rare balance between true home-cooked Indian comfort and a clean, contemporary style that makes every dish feel both familiar and exciting. You can tell the chefs cook with real intention. The flavours are layered, not overpowering, the kind of taste that reminds you of food made in a family kitchen, but refined in a way that belongs in a modern dining room. Each dish had its own personality, rich where it needed to be, fresh where it mattered, and presented beautifully without losing authenticity. The service was equally impressive: friendly, attentive and genuinely proud of what they’re serving. Nothing felt rushed, but everything arrived at the perfect moment. The team checked in just enough to make us feel looked after without interrupting the evening. The ambience is relaxed but stylish, contemporary interiors with a cosy, homely feel, making it a great spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. Overall, an exceptional dining experience. If you appreciate authentic Indian flavours with a modern edge, and food that feels like it was prepared with care, this place is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be returning.

Had a wonderful dinner at The Great Indian Pub in London. Manager Joel and our waiter Abdu delivered amazing service — friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. We tried the Butter Chicken, Malai Chicken Tikka, Cigar Masala Dosa, and Butter Garlic Naan — every dish was delicious, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Great food, lovely ambience, and outstanding hospitality. Highly recommended!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at The Great Indian Restaurant in Archway. From the moment I walked in, the warm hospitality and inviting aroma of spices set the tone for a memorable meal. The food was simply outstanding rich, flavorful curries, perfectly cooked naan, and tender tandoori dishes bursting with authentic taste. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of depth. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made excellent recommendations. The atmosphere was cozy yet vibrant, perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. Truly star dining experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Such a superbly tasty meal at The Great Indian. Amazing and very friendly, helpful, and efficient service! The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and great for hungry tums! We were a party of 8 and ordered MANY dishes off the authentic (mostly Punjabi) menu. We LOVED the Butter Chicken, the Halloween special: charcoal cheese naan, the Tangra Chilly Paneer, the Lamb curry, and the Dal Makhani were all outstanding, too! The cocktails and mocktails were mouthwatering - and definitely had the good vibes flowing. It was all topped off by a personal chat with the Chef, who told us of some of his recommendations (including the Halloween special, which he gave us for free!). Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at The Great Indian and I’m already planning when to come back! I shall be dreaming of the food in the meantime.

I’m hard pressed to think of anywhere I’ve had better Indian food and the Himalayan White Negroni is definitely the best cocktail I’ve ever had. Usually Indian food can have a tendency to be oily, salty or in some cases overly sweet, but everything was very well balanced. The butter chicken had a deep fragrant and savoury flavour, the sea bass curry was also delicious and bursting with a fresh fish flavour. The menu is perfect, the right mix of dishes and options and completely overshadows any run of the mill Indian restaurant/takeaway food.

Visited Saturday 14th Oct. Party of four. Fantastic experience. Food was exceptional - In particular, loved the kebabs, loved the Lamb shank biryani, and loved the paneer makhani. Creamy, rich, tomatoey - fantastic! Only mild criticism (more of an observation!) is that it's not really a pub at all. A Restaurant! Not a Tamil Prince or Tamil Crown type venue if you're after a cosy pub that does exceptional Indian food.

Went 2 weeks ago for my wife’s birthday. 6 in total. 4 adults and 2 kids. Really enjoyed the whole experience. Decor, service and food was absolutely outstanding. Some of the best Indian food outside of the really pricey places in Mayfair. We had lamb chops, chicken biryani and a lot of mixed vegetarian options. Cocktails were very good also. Kids food was a decent portion and very good quality.
