First time being in there, not knowing the menu and how everything work. The employees was rushing us to order and did not even care to explain what on the menu. Not going back. My sandwich looks sad compared to subway

Great option for Italian style subs in the DFW area. We’ve visited multiple locations and so far all of them produce the same, great quality subs. Our standard fave/order is the #9 BBQ chicken and #17 cheese combo (vegetarian). Lots of topping and dressing options to choose from for your sub. I’ve never tried the ice cream or desserts, but they look good. Good seating options. The employees are all very friendly and welcoming.

I walked in for the first time and didn’t feel very welcomed. None of the four gentlemen working looked happy to be there. I was initially excited since not many sandwich shops have sprouts anymore, but the chicken salad sandwich was just okay…nothing to brag about. When I check out new spots, I look for a wow factor or something that makes me want to come back. Unfortunately, this place gave me more of a “get away” feeling instead. As someone who posts food spots all over Dallas and shares them with my fairly large following on TikTok, I wouldn’t recommend this place. My audience trusts me to find places they’ll enjoy, but sadly this isn’t one of them. 😕

I will die on the hill that this shop in particular makes the best sandwiches. I’ve had some qualms with other locations, but this one is perfect. I’ve worked my way through 80% of the menu. I will admit The Invention isn’t for me. The breakfast is also subpar. And they don’t have a grill so I steer clear of the cheesesteaks. I can forgive all that because the deli sandwiches are absolute perfection. I would give five more stars if I could just because they sell IBC.

First time here. Was hoping to order a wrap, but they apparently don't sell them. So I chose a croissant instead, no big deal. But when I saw the small amount meat on the sandwich I asked for extra meat, and that's what you see here in the photos. I ended up paying $12.61 for this little thing and I'm still hungry. It didn't taste bad, but it was extremely expensive for this small of a sandwich. Customer service was good and the store was clean. But at this price and size of portions, I won't be back.

The only sub shop that matters in Dallas! Sandwiches are always fresh. The team is friendly, and it’s clean in here.

Never had before, but it's very tasty. My only complaint is that I had a hair wrapped around my sub. Maybe encourage employees to put hair up or in hair net. Thank you.

They offer a great selection of sandwiches and are always fresh. The customer service is always great too.

This has become one of my favorite sandwich shops lately. I have tried a few different sandwiches and they all have been perfect. You cannot go wrong with any combo you like on the croissant with the croissant dressing. The service is always great and fast. The workers are always friendly when I go inside. I do wish they would have the orders completed when you walk in to just grab off a shelf by the door instead of behind the counter because sometimes they are busy and my order isn't completely bagged. Other than that, never a bad experience inside one of these. The meats are sliced fresh which I love. The quality and portion sizes are always great as well. I have yet to try their breakfast but it's on my list to try next for sure!

Great Outdoors !!! What's not great ? It's the greatest sandwich place since sliced bread or....meat and cheese. Lol Always friendly, clean and fast service. I miss the Richardson location. So go all the way to Prestonwood area. Comes from Murphy. But heard it's closing this locale. Whats happening people ? You guys are missing out if you haven't gone yet. The bread is nice and fresh. Meats are sliced to order. The Works is so yummy. Smiles on faces ! Tables are bussed and floor is clean. Greatest place on Earth !!!

I haven't had a hot #12 since 1981, at the original location on Skillman near northwest hwy. It was just as good as I remembered! I will be back when I'm in the area

---Dearest Reader, I hope this finds you well. Tales of legendary submarine are etched in to the walls of this sandwich temple. The myth is true. It does exist. For anyone who has ever contemplated ordering the 4 foot party sub, it is 1000% worth it. My wife surprised me a few days prior to my birthday and it was the best gift I've ever received from a food establishment. Whether you're feeding a party or feeding yourself for a week+ this is the way to go. Phenomenal value and the ingredients truly stayed fresh when wrapped in cellophane. Great service! Great staff! Great food! The Great Outdoors offers a touch of nostalgia with fresh food and ingredients. Everything is made fresh and to order. They provide a multitude of options from salads to soups sandwiches ice cream and more.

Food was very good! Nice deli sandwich with double pastrami and rye bread. Pretty inexpensive and quick service. They were in a rush but food was very good! Definitely a locals go there.

I jinxed myself going to the store and letting them know how great every order has been thus far. I just received my order and they messed up every single thing on my order. The soup was half full at best. This is after ive ordered it so many times. No dressing on the sandwich. No extra tomatoes unless 2 dinky halves of a tomato is extra. And whomever does their deliveries is the worst in Dallas. They just throw it in the ground and don't knock, ring, nothing. That's a $7.50 delivery charge for the lazy person to basically pull up and toss out the window. Ive ordered from them so many times and this one is unacceptable. Especially because I spend so much money there. My tip is to actually go to the store because the delivery is THE WORST! And if you're at the store you better check it out. I sure hope it's a different staff member there today because never have I ever gotten such a bad meal from them. July 12, 4:42 delivery.

I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years. Today was perhaps my third visit. And I am reminded why I pass it up regularly. I haven't taken one bite but this $14 sandwich better make my toes curl. Waaaaaaay too expensive.

I LOVE this restaurant for a sub sandwich! This is the perfect classic deli spot that you can order a pre-made sub or customize. The bread is fresh, and the cheese and meat are delicious. I love that you also can get light mayo here (especially since Subway discontinued it). They have the best toppings. You can get through the line quickly, as the service is fast. Ambiance is local restaurant vibes. We love to come here for a cold cut!

They started in 1973 in Dallas. My first visit was probably in 1981. The shop closest to me is Trinity Mills and Midway and my guess is that it has been there for 38 years. Went in the other day for supper and was just like it was when opened. Great food and service.

Poor customer service. Nobody greeted me when I walked in and i just stood there smh the black kid was cool

So I ordered 3 meals today. Coupe pastrami rye and a Rueben for myself and coworkers. One of the pastrami was double meat. And I ordered online. I showed up, picked up the food and left went straight back to my office. We ordered the sandwiches off of the Internet page menu and they looked wonderful. I'll just say this for $9.65 for a regular sandwich, and then more for the one with double meat, this was the most anemic sandwich I have ever seen in my entire life. I understand food doesn't always look like the menu, but this was ridiculous. The sandwich was smashed, soggy, and just overall a poor representation of what their menu showed. The sandwich itself tasted pretty good. I'm not gonna argue that but for the price , I am absolutely not satisfied. I definitely will never order food here again. This sandwich should've cost half what I paid. I wish I had taken pictures of this and then posted them next to their menu picture you guys would be laughing. My sandwich honestly look like somebody sat on it.

I've been eating at Great Outdoors sandwich shops for about 40 years and don't remember ever having a bad experience, until this past Tuesday (5/9/2023). I stopped at store #400 in Addison. My family and I used live near there and we're regular customers and it was always great. This last visit was HORRIBLE!! The worst part of the visit was the moron at the register. I'll visit the Richardson store from now on!!

Greeted by friendly staff who recommended the #12 with the works. Fresh ingredients and nice soft bread a nearby lunch spot for a quick bite to eat

FINALLY! i have found one staple to my endless search for the food i crave since moving to dallas. this lil unassuming gem is reminiscent of my old haunts back in LA. ol'school subs the way it should be. deli meats with shredded iceberg lettuce on a soft roll. simple and delicious. the way it should always be.

I really really like this place when I'm in the mood for a tasty cold sub. I used to go to this sandwich shop all the time when I lived in ft worth and was super excited to see one nearby when I was shopping in Addison. My go to is not really a menu choice. Leave it to me to be difficult, but I'm truly a sucker for a roast beef and turkey combo. I ordered that on a croissant and got a ton of topics. It is so good! Croissants are my favorite bread choice so that's what sets this place apart for me! I've never tried their ice cream because I'm lactose intolerant and am only willing to put myself thru the pain for a special occasion. It looks good tho! Overall great place and the service is always nice. Great place for a quick and casual lunch.

Wife and bro in law got a stomach bug from here. Her and I had the same meals in common for the day but one which was this great outdoors. Please avoid.

The sandwich was not good at all. It was just blah to me with no flavor. No good customer service in the shop at well. I will not return.

Absolutely love this sub shop the only thing is this location doesn't have a military discount which is a bummer but the subs are fantastic.

Soup tastes like they drowned it in flour and bacon grease instead of hints of bacon like mentioned in the description. I would not give it another shot. Unimpressed!

This place is just your average sandwich shop. It's a good change of pace and more customizable than a jimmy johns or potbelly, but it just seemed to be lacking in flavor. It was my first time and the menu was a little confusing. I was there during the lunch rush so the staff wasn't super ready to accommodate a newbie like me. Good pickles!! About $10.50 for a sandwich and a drink. Seems a tad pricey for no chips

Very popular lunch spot, always seems to be busy when i drive by. I decided to check it out one day for a late lunch. It was maybe 1-130 so it wasn't too busy in here. I was actually the first in line. Was greeted by the cashier, the other two guys on the line just had a blank face, no expression. Ok cool. I already know what i want - turkey sandwich - never been here before so no idea what already comes on it or what are my options or anything . No one in the line spoke to me, no one ask what i wanted for toppings, cheese etc. i tried to ask a question about the fire mayo or something they have and got no response again - if this is your first time do not expect any help or assistance from the guys working behind the counter and know what you want when you get in line. I would have liked some more options or know more about the menu. Also when making your sandwich they do not put anything underneath it. They just throw it on the same metal slab as everyone else's and then wrap it up at the cash register. I have no idea what's been going on on this counter and if it's clean or not so i did not like that. Very basic options for bread and not very tasty. Will probably just check out other sandwich places in the area next time

I ordered through the app to the wrong location instead of this one. When I went in they were very helpful and immediately took my order and made it for me. They were so nice and took care of me despite how busy they were. I appreciate how sweet everyone was.

Setup: decor is definitely original. Keeps it looking like a well established mom 'n' pop deli which is super! Gives it the correct ambience of a good sub shop that produces a homemade sandwich away from home with all the fixings. Could use a little more lighting. Staff is nice and welcoming. Definitely more personality than what you would expect from a chain. Food: Great. Subs are full, menu is simple but varied. Deli meat and cheese are sliced-to-order, which keeps it super fresh and definitely gives it that homey taste. 3 types of bread and brilliant tasting meats and cheese. I went with my go-to Reuben with "the works" (adds all their suggested toppings) and I was extremely satisfied for my lunch. I like that their combo options also have a drink and potato salad as a choice too (potato salad is tasty too). Highly recommend this place if you are wanting a sandwich. It's too good to pass up. 4-stars because they seemed a little understaffed during peak hours and it took me 15 mins waiting in a line until I could order. (However the one guy who was working was galling ass and made 10 sandwiches in that time. Many props to him!)

I found an old get one free card when cleaning out some boxes. I was excited to get a free tasty sandwich. Unfortunately I asked about the card being valid ahead of ordering, so they gave me a sandwich that was 1/3 the normal size.

Great shakes and sandwiches made fresh. Next time I'll ask for them heated like my last visit.

Ordered the Tuna on wheat with "The Works" and added sprouts (loved that option btw), SUPER FRESH!! It was everything I could have asked for in a tuna, not too fishy or salty like most places. Very lite but filling! Will definitely be returning to try other options!

Finally made it, even though it's around the corner from my house. It definitely not a fancy place but it's a Delicious place! I got the Outdoors Man without balonga (I didn't know they still made it) on white bread and it was awesome! The bread is good, the meats are fresh and the toppings are limited choices but good. Small down side is there is only one size sub, which is ok which gluttony being a current problem in society. And it's about $10 for an Outdoors Man Waaayyy better than Subway and a strong competitor to Jersey Mike's. But I like Great Outdoors because they deliver and it's close to my house. They have crossiants​, wheat and rye bread as well. Im looking forward to trying a breakfast crossiants​ and other menu items.

This place is amazing, truly.. One of the best sandwiches in the DFW area.. this location is probably my favorite, I go between lunch and dinner times typically and there's never a long line. If going at lunch and in a hurry call in ur order.. if u don't know what to get, just get the outdoorsman with the works.. and a bag of regular lay's!! Enjoy!

This is one of the better sub shops in my opinion. Love 'the works' on their turkey sub. One of the bread choices is a croissant AWESOME! And, the campfire Mayo is also delicious.

This sandwich was just ok. Not at all what I expected a authentic sub would taste like. Customer service was about the same. I would not be going back. I had the Turkey Pastrami, my son had the #13.

Love love love this place. The sandwiches are always amazing and it is the only sandwich I will eat. The #12 outdoorsman has ruined all other sandwiches for me because it is simply the best!

Got the Works on a toasted croissant and it was delicious and the ingredients tastes fresh. The hot spices aren't spicy but adds a nice texture and taste. Make sure to warm up your croissant to get it a nice flaky outside as you eat your sandwich. The sandwich is a little more pricey compared to regular sandwich places but you're definitely paying for fresher and crispy ingredients.

Do you remember the deli sandwich? No not the sandwich that Subway has destroyed. A real deli made sandwich in rye bread with fresh sliced meats and cheese. I was impressed with the glassed cold chest full of meats and cheeses. With casual seating this is perfect lunch or place for an easy supper. My personal favorite is the hot pastrami with cheese. I'll be frequenting this establishment whenever I'm in the area.

I have a friend who is exclusive to Great Outdoors for subs, so I decided to check it out. It wasn't busy when I came in around 2pm, they asked to help me and I requested a minute or two. The lady asked if it was my first visit and if I had any questions. I requested turkey and bacon, so she suggested the Club sandwich, and I went with it (on wheat, rather than a buttery croissant, which I would actually prefer). The woman who waited on me was not wearing gloves, which is odd, but the guy who put the veggies on was wearing gloves. I asked for it toasted and she said they only toast the bread, but she could put it in the microwave. Ok, every sub shop has a toaster oven these days, get one! Anyway, I also got a pickle, which was delicious. The presentation wasn't beautiful, and the price was a little high, but the sandwich tasted pretty good. One thing that I did like was that every employee was working. Even though there weren't customers to help, one girl was wiping down tables, the guy was cleaning up the veggie area and the woman was helping me. I don't know why, but it bothers me when I see staff just hanging around doing nothing. There's always something that can be done. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and nice. The menu had all sorts of different salads and sandwiches, plus shakes and other items. It has more to offer than your average Subway, but I don't know if it's worth the few extra bucks.

What does one picture when one thinks of "The Great Outdoors?" A pro shop, a fishing supply company, or a sporting goods store? None. None of the above. It's a sub shop. And, contrary to what I originally thought, the sandwiches here are actually good! I walk in with no idea of their offerings. The guy behind the counter asks me for specifics as far as what I like. I end up with a ham and cheese (plus a lot of other stuff) on toasted wheat bread. It was outstanding! The meats and cheeses are freshly sliced on the spot, which is definitely a plus. I'll say for a bonus that I also had a milkshake. A blueberry milkshake... it's real ice cream, milk, and fruit... not many places do FRESH and REAL ingredients anymore! I'm impressed to say the least. The service was amazing, the sandwich was one of the best subs I've had in a very very long time, and the whole experience left me feeling better when I left than when I walked in the door. Minus one star? The name... but I'll get over it and tack that star on at a later date. Go try this place out.

I'm actually really surprised at the "people are really friendly" reviews. I've been here many, many times, and I'd say they are friendly 1 out of 5 visits. They usually seem as if you are putting them out and they are irritated if you have questions or want to make substitutions. That said, I go back because it's one of the few healthy places in the area. The salads are ok, but not amazing. I wish they had spinach or something other than shredded iceberg lettuce. They are also overpriced given that I get one meat, no cheese, and only red wine as a dressing for $7.75. My fiance likes the Invention a lot.

The sandwiches here are the same great eats as the other Great Outdoors location. But why the two stars rating? Rude employees? Nope! Very nice and knowledgeable. Filthy environs? Nope again! Very clean and organized. Gouging prices? Nope. Although on the more $$$ side of subs, the quality makes up for it. So what's up then? This shop is MOFOKING slow! Oh My lawd! Deliberate doesn't begin to describe the pace here. Just pray no one in front of you orders a milkshake. It does not matter what time I come in here, slooooooow. So there is my take. Take it or leave it. ;)

My brother has food poisoning 8 years ago. we thought it was some stomach bug but what the F***! He was sick for weeks eating nearly anything cause if he did he would throw up! this is a bad place to eat. What do they put in your food?

I've been coming to Great Outdoors for 20-something years, I used to love the sandwiches. But lately the sandwiches have risen to $10 for a sandwich and the staff is essentially unresponsive. One paying $10 for a sandwich my expectation is that there won't be for people at the store and none of them actually making sandwiches. After waiting 10 minutes with one person in front of me I walked out. The service was actually better when you could smell the weed when you walked in the door 10 or 15 years ago.

Service - 3 Stars - Friendly Counter Staff Food - 4 Stars Large Menu - 3 Stars We found this sandwich shop in an almost hidden northwest corner of Midway and Trinity Mills shopping strip. Very large menu selection from breakfast offerings to ice cream and a lot of sandwiches in between. I opted for the Chicken Salad on Croissant and my wife went with the BLT on Croissant. We both loved the very large croissants which we were told were baked fresh on the premises. The toasted croissant made a great BLT! I was fairly pleased with my Chicken Salad, although it was a little light on the celery for my taste. Exceptionally friendly service from the small staff. We would certainly return when in the neighborhood.

Amazing subs. I got the 4ft outdoorsman giant party sub. Not only was it In a shipping box it was delicious and delectable. The staff was nice and prompt. And my order was completed at the time discussed this is seriously too much sammich.

Super fresh! Bread was the perfect texture for a great sandwich. Service was super fast and plenty of tables/chairs. Wish they had some sort of spicy pepper mix or sauce to give it a little kick but otherwise really good. Will definitely go back.

Service is a bit spotty and nonchalant, but the sandwiches are exceptional, as sub sandwiches go. Far better than their competitors, even my wife enjoyed hers, and she HATES sandwiches. She had the meatball sub, but my favorite is the outdoorsman. They put so much meat on there that even at eight inches, it fills you up better than someone else's twelve inch.
