London’s Best Noodle Soups: Ramen, Laksa, Pho, and More Noodles | Eater London

"Here’s how to order at The Great Thai. Go to the right Great Thai, not the Great Thai takeaway place round the corner. Ignore the set lunch menu. Do not be distracted by upselling aunties. Get boat noodles, murky and ditchwater brown but so full of flavour, with the sharp nasal hit of white pepper. As good as it gets round the back of Oxford Circus. Get the yen ta fo if needing something milder. Chilli oil status: Chopped pickled chillis instead." - Jonathan Nunn

Oxford Street’s Best Restaurants | Where to Eat Near Oxford Circus | Eater London

"Per Eater London contributor Jonathan Nunn, “this isn’t going to compare to the boat noodles with pigs blood on a Bangkok side street, but it’s as good as it gets round the back of Oxford Circus.” Precisely in the spirit of this guide, “this” means not the entire restaurant, The Great Thai, but the boat noodles at The Great Thai, possibly the most restorative bowl out there in Fitzrovia, with enough white pepper to clear away shopping bag blindness. Slurp." - James Hansen

Best-Value Restaurants in Central London | Cheap, but Not ‘Cheap Eats’ | Eater London

"Ordering a great meal at the optimistically named The Great Thai needs a degree of single-mindedness. Ignore the set lunch menu, don’t mistake it with the takeaway shop round the corner, do not be distracted by the aunties trying to upsell. Stick to the boat noodles: ditchwater brown and dishwater clear, but full of flavour and the sharp nasal hit of white pepper. Also of note is the Hakka-influenced soup yen ta fo, lurid pink with fermented red beancurd paste, not complex in flavour but in textural assemblage — a bouncy prawn here and there, fried tofu, soft tofu, squidgy fish balls, fried fish roll, and crispy wonton wrappers. Also consider the saltfish fried rice with little pockets of dried fish interrupting the interplay between rice, egg and wok smoke. No, this isn’t going to compare to the boat noodles with pigs blood on a Bangkok side street, but it’s as good as it gets round the back of Oxford Circus." - Jonathan Nunn

We absolutely loved our meal here. Every single dish was a hit! The portions were generous, and the food felt genuinely heart-warming, like a comforting home-cooked meal with an extra touch of flair.

Tiny little place that doesn't have the capacity to seat more than 16 people, so you may have to wait for a table. But service was excellent. For a no frills place with just 2 people running front of house. They actually come check on you to make sure everything is okay. Their spicy noodles with thick rice noodles was 5/5. Generous portion and they don't use store bought dried noodles. It's proper chewy rice noodles, with a lot of minced meat and herbs in the soup base. Better than the other Thai noodle place down the road. They also have a good dessert selection which I'll be back for.

So glad I got here when they opened at 12. By the time I left some 25 minutes later all tables were full. I had some small bites, but the food on the next table also looked tasty. Staff friendly and welcoming, service excellent. I was politely advised my bill included service, as I was about to pay some more money, and appreciate the honesty.

The food here was amazing flavours from the food were unreal, I have been to a few Thai restaurants recently, and this is definitely one of the best. Small restaurant but perfect to grab a bite to eat. Staff were so friendly and polite a must try restaurant.

I’ve visited this restaurant three times because I was really craving Thai food, and this place is conveniently located near my home. It’s a small restaurant with reasonably priced dishes. However, I have been disappointed every time. The food is average, not bad, but nothing particularly special. What really made my experience unpleasant was the behavior of one of the staff members (possibly the owner) a slightly heavy-set man, who appears to be part of the LGBTQ community and usually stays at the counter. The first time I visited, his facial expressions didn’t seem very welcoming. When I placed my order, he responded in a way that felt uninviting for example, when I ordered orange juice, he said, “It’s not real orange juice, you know,” as if trying to discourage me. I also ordered basil chicken, and he remarked, “But it’s made with minced chicken,” which at the time I assumed was just informative. On my second visit, I dined in again. As soon as I arrived, the same man turned his face away from me, making it clear he didn’t want to interact. Fortunately, another male staff member took my order he was polite, friendly, and welcoming. While I was eating, I saw the man from the counter laughing and chatting cheerfully with other customers. However, when I asked for the bill, he didn’t say a word and made an unhappy face. I had to walk up to the counter to pay, and once again, he looked displeased while serving me. Strangely enough, he had just been smiling and warmly greeting other customers who came in just before me. The third time, I intended to order takeout. The same man was at the counter. He dropped the menu on my table in a rather dismissive manner, without saying a word, then turned his face away again. It felt very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Meanwhile, I could see him being friendly and cheerful with other people in the restaurant. I honestly have no idea why I was treated this way, especially when others seemed to receive warm service. I just wanted to enjoy Thai food, but after these repeated experiences, I don’t think I’ll return again.

Maybe I visited on the wrong day, or the main restaurant chef was off :) but I didn’t enjoy the taste of the food, which I normally love. I also have to mention that the Thai food wasn’t hot and spicy at all, which is quite unusual for Thai cuisine. Lastly, the place is extremely small, and the waiting staff stand so close to the guests that it makes your lunch or dinner feel less comfortable and enjoyable. Give them a try—maybe it will work better for you!

Went in super early, so the atmosphere was relaxed and lovely, and the staff were so nice! I ordered the papaya salad and the pandan jelly drink, which were just amazing - I was really blown away! I then ordered some tom yum prawn soup which was also delicious! 1000% recommend and I'll be back! Thank you!
