Experts Say Indoor Dining in NYC Should Be Banned Before In-Person Learning | Eater NY

"I noticed downtown hotspot the Odeon recently responded to a New Yorker review that dunked on the restaurant’s outdoor dining setup, addressing criticism of how it had configured outdoor seating." - Erika Adams

Google
One of the best music venues in Rhode Island at this historic theatre. Love the vibe at the Odeum. Small up close venue with no bad seats in the house. Especially love the balcony when it opens. No food here but the bar and staff is great. So nice to see great live music without the travel or crowds. Great location with Main Street coffee next door and Updike room across the street. The shows here are so fun, Christmas, reggae, tributes, and the headliners. Plenty of food on Main Street too. Parking can be a challenge on a busy night.

First time there to see a Johnny Cash Tribute..amazing! Sound was great, no bad seats, very helpful staff. Definitely a sleeper spot for good shows, already making plans to return.

Google
It was such a nostalgic night to not only hear the “BOSS’S” music played by Hank Azaria and the EZ Street band but also to see the beautiful Odeum which brought me back to childhood memory’s of movies there. Hank interacted with the audience in such a personable way with his stories and he seemed to be having fun as well. . The band was great too. Overall, such an enjoyable evening.

Google
Really great venue, the staff is great, not a bad seat in the house. Looking forward to the next visit

Google
Small, intimate dated theater. It's well taken care of and servers for a good time in a smaller setting. The sound in the theater is perfect. Not to high or low. Acoustically fitting . Recommend to get there early for parking purposes or use valet. Drinks are reasonable and the bathrooms are updated and clean. I'll go back again for another show.

Google
Second time seeing a show, great experience both times! Small but has everything you need or want. Parking close by. Feels good to support a place like this.

Google
Saw Samara Joy in concert. Brilliant. The venue is comfortable and and every seat is a good one. Excellent acoustics and sight lines.

Google
A nice venue! Comfortable seats with great views from all angles. Nicely decorated and bar prices are reasonable for a theater. Need to walk a distance for parking unless you are lucky enough to find one on the street but that's a rare find.

Yelp
This cozy venue is ideal for small events. Its dated interior evokes a sense of nostalgia. Because of its modest size, every seat affords an equitable view of the stage area. The clear acoustics immerse concert goers in an unexpected sound bath. For the ticket price, you get what you paid for. The spirits on sale (vodka, etc) improve the overall quality of the experience.

Yelp
Great live concert venue. Accessible clean bathrooms. Good times had with good people.

Yelp
I attend five or more shows a year here. I'm also on the theater's board, so maybe I'm biased! OK--I'm probably biased! I truly enjoy the shows I attend, and you can't get better sightlines and sound! Keep it up, Odeum!

James P.

Yelp
I've attended many many shows at the Odeum and the only problem I've seen is people standing in their seats the entire show, blocking the view of those behind them. This is wrong and possibly a violation of the ADA. I've had 2 back surgeries and cannot possibly stand for an extended period of time. Do these same people stand when watching a movie? Let them stand upstairs in the balcony area. If this happens to me again, I will file a complaint and take legal action.

Yelp
Big head Todd, and the Monster show. The ushers did nothing during the Concert as the crowd stood the full 2 hours. When I talked to the Manager, she said well they are enjoying the show. What do you want me to do? This was said with an attitude. Parking is very hard to find.

Yelp
Small, old venue. The seats were the MOST uncomfortable theatre seats I've ever sat in-come to think of it I think the seat is still attached to my behind.... They have a bar on the second floor but the line was down the stairs so we opted to pass. Not a bad seat(it only seats 410) so you can see fine. We were in row L and had a perfect view of the stage. Covid protocols are all over the place- like they want to mandate but they don't so instead of taking a stand they talk around it in their policies. Wouldn't return unless they replaced the seats.

Yelp
I enjoy seeing shows at smaller theaters, especially when they are ass comfortable as the Odeum. We saw a rock show at the Odeum and the acoustics were good. Everything inside was beautifully renovated, from the lobby and bathrooms to the main hall; a balcony with a second bar is being added now. On the business district in East Greenwich, it allows for a great dinner + show pairings. The staff were very nice and organized, and the crowd really enjoyed the space. One thing to take note of, lines for the bar go all the way down the stage right aisle.

Dave P.

Yelp
Used to attend shows at the Odeum when one of their house rules was that you were allowed to stand up/dance ONLY in the side aisles, and NOT at your seats, thereby ensuring that people who want to sit and watch a show can do so without an obstructed view. But the Odeum changed their rules and now allow people to stand at their seats all night if they want to. How about the people who paid good money and actually want to sit in the seat they paid for? What if a movie were shown, or a play? Or, how about the Glenn Miller Orchestra, who obviously draws a much older crowd? Okay to stand in front of them and dance through the whole show, too? Or will you draw a line for the blue-rinse crowd? The Odeum staff has acquiesced to people who are selfish, self-centered, and/or just plain drunk patrons who don't care one bit about blocking someone else's view. Because of this outrageous and ignorant rule, I will never attend another show there.

Yelp
A disappointing night. BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ (and I'm not talking about good BUZZ) For our 15th Wedding Anniversary, my wife and I purchased tickets to see Bill Frisell at the Odeum. We were so excited because we are big fans of Frisell and the Odeum is our hometown venue...just a few doors down from our favorite restaurant. So we planned a big date for the night of the show: dinner out, a cocktail, Bill Frisell. This would be the first time we went out together since our twins were born 10 months earlier, so we were ready to see some live music and taste freedom if only for a few hours. The night of the show, our two baby sitters came over (a ratio of one adult to one baby is a good plan with twins baby sitting), my wife and I got all gussied up, and we hit the town! After some absolutely dynamite Indian food, we walked down to the Odeum and took our front row seats (we decided to splurge and buy the best seats for our anniversary/freedom night!). Now, since the Odeum is my hometown venue, I've been before and I've never loved the sound there. For one band I saw, the sound was piercingly loud, for a film, the sound almost inaudible. So, I did have my reservations about how it would sound, but I thought, "how could they possibly mess up the sound for one amp??" Well I learned how as soon as the first string was plucked. BUZZ Mr. Frisell was actually using two amps rather than one, and the Princeton Reverbs he was playing through have more than enough power to fill the Odeum. But, not surprisingly, they decided to mic the amps and run it through the PA. This is very normal as this allows the musician to keep the amps running quieter enabling the player to hear better on stage. But unfortunately for absolutely everyone, the stack of speakers stage left had a terrific buzz every time Frisell played through the mid range pitches on his guitar. The buzz sounded like a loose pin or nut/bolt that was holding the rack of speakers together. The buzz was very loud and rattled away through almost the entire performance. It was borderline unlistenable. It took all of my concentration to focus on the music. If you know Frisell's music and BUZZ playing style, you know that he generally BUZZ plays squeaky clean BUZZ through his amp, focuses BUZZ on nuance and harmony, and creates BUZZ everything from BUZZ ethereal Americana BUZZ BUZZ to spidery-dark cave jazz to evoke a wide range of BUZZ the human experience. BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ Oh, I'm sorry, were you trying to hear my review of Bill Frisell's amazing BUZZ musicianship? There's no nuance in BUZZ, so the entire performance was horribly marred. Mr. Frisell took one short break prior to an encore during which I left my seat to speak with someone about the sound. The person with whom I spoke told me that they were aware of the buzz (who wasn't??) but that there was nothing to be done. They said they were sure it wasn't their PA and after I suggested they bypass the PA and turn up the amps Frisell was using, was assured that that too would cause the buzz. This person was completely wrong. The buzzing was certainly coming from the PA and bypassing the PA would have ended that buzzing! A friend of mine, also in the audience, happens to know the normal sound person there and got in touch with that person as soon as the show started. Turns out, the main sound person was on another job that night, as was the back up sound person, but both knew about the buzzing coming from the speaker stack. It was found during another performance by a different band earlier in the season. I also came to find out that apparently Mr. Frisell pointed out the buzz at sound check but nothing came of it. So there you have it. The Greenwich Odeum donkied another show. Anyone surprised? I'd take a refund if they'd give me one, but I'm not sure I'd take free tickets to another show...who wants more BUZZ?

Yelp
Single worst venue I've ever been to. I don't have much more to say than that. The staff is aggressively miserable, embarrassingly confused. They were confrontational toward my party almost as soon as we got there, we had some security lady up our ass the whole time we were there telling us to sit down and be quiet all night (at the live music show) and then someone was sent to apologize to us because they had planned to be confrontational to someone else that was apparently bothering another audience member. What the actual fuck, Odeum?? Get your shit together and be more fun, ok??

Yelp
Great venue for music and comedy shows. Every seat has a great view. Will definitely return to see more shows. Saw Jim Breuer, great show!

Yelp
Music and movies The Odeum opened way back in 1926 and was originally a Vaudeville theatre. As movies became more and more popular it became a motion picture theatre and continued showing flicks until it closed in 1990. The wonderful old building came back to life in 1994 but once again closed in 2007 because of various violations. Fortunately a group of volunteers coaxed it back to life and now the Odeum is once again showing classical movies as well as live shows. Since the old theater only holds a bit more than 400 people it's an intimate and cozy place that allows close interaction with the performers. It doesn't draw the largest names in entertainment but has some very pleasant once famous, almost famous and should be famous acts. The interior is plain and clean and has very comfortable and spacious seats. I can actually extend my legs while seated. A wonderful old theatre that is frequently and deservingly sold out. It's definitely a whole lot more fun than a huge and impersonal arena or civic center.

Yelp
I saw a comedy show at the Greenwich Odeum, and I was most impressed by the size of the theater. The theater had comfortable seating, the restrooms were clean, and parking in the vicinity of the theater was ample. The cost of the show was reasonable, and I will definitely see other shows here in the near future. The only drawback was that a small bag of potato chips cost me $2, which is a bit steep for a tiny bag of junk food. Chips and candy were the only options for snacks. Healthy options at the concession stand would definitely make the venue more enjoyable.

Yelp
Attended Justin Hayward concert on 09.26.2021. I was most impressed with the Odeum's Vax check process, the Security process and the way they dealt with people who were out of control, all for the benefit of the rest of us who just wanted to safely and serenely enjoy a performance and not be distracted by entitled individuals. Thank You Odeum, been there before, presently and in the future!

Yelp
Feeling ripped off and lied to! Purchased tickets for what I was told was a Saturday show over the phone. Provided credit card information and was charged $156.75 for three tickets. Showed up Saturday for show and was told show was the night before on Friday!!! Can you believe that? Manager Shanna was no help. Refused a refund and didn't even offer tickets to a future event. This place is an embarrassment to East Greenwich. See other review of sneaky behavior as well. Shame on you Odeum!!! This family will not be patrons ever and will never recommend theater...that's for sure!!! EG Resident

Yelp
Treasures like the Odeum are rare. A group of dedicated volunteers pursues the success of this beauty. With large technology driven theaters - the Odeum is threaded with nostalgia. It lends itself to a cozy interactive feel with the actors and actresses. They've done a decent job re-tooling the shell to its original persona. It's a draw for the locals and an affordable spot for entertainment.

Yelp
Awesome local theater that dates back to 1926. Recently re-opened after having to close due to fire code(s) after the Station fire. Led by a great group of people the Odeum is quickly becoming a go to spot in East Greenwich and the state for quality affordable entertainment.

Yelp
But some tickets to go to a show there were advertising a particular group got there that group wasn't there the group there were advertising was playing in Las Vegas.. I thought that was very sneaky and false advertisement.

Yelp
Had a great time watching the Elvis double feature. Sort of disappointing that the theater was under construction. They couldn't sever beer or wine due to town ordinance. So make sure before you go see a show they're fully open.

Paul B.

Yelp
I saw the Tubes here in February of 2019, and had an absolutely great time. The venue is small (like 400 seats, I think), but it's in immaculate condition, and the town of East Greenwich is as postcard worthy as a town on the Cape. There are no bad seats, good acoustics, and a bar. What else do you want? It's my understanding that there's also a balcony which is unrestored, and they're planning to renovate and open it as additional seating. I loved the place, and I'll be back.

Kw S.

Yelp
Howard Jones put on great show as usual last night. But the one star rating goes to the Odeum. Just be warned that they allow the side isles for dancing and people to get closer to the stage. I thought this venue was a respectable sit down establishment. Last night there were a bunch of women in the right isle dancing and having a good time for themselves but when Howard was performing a non-hit song of his they could not just keep quiet and dance. I had to let the management know twice and my wife did as well that these women where being disrespectful to those who were sitting and would not just shut up. Unfortunately we will pass on the odeum in the future as they can't enforce a reasonable request for patrons who just want to see a good show.

Pat G.

Yelp
Saw the Bacon Brothers a while back. Great show, great acoustics. Very intimate setting. Not a bad seat in the house. Good variety of cocktails too! Looking forward to seeing Jon Lodge tonight!

Yelp
Have attended four events at the Odeum and the renovations are spectacular, the place is great, the sound is excellent, cannot say enough about it, just a great local theater for all types of events.
