The 17 Best Afternoon Teas In London

"We like to think the design brief for The Grill Room at Hotel Café Royal went a little like this: ‘Dearest designer, we have way too much money—please make a room that looks like our wealth threw up in it’. With gold, velvet, and mirrors, this is by far the most opulent room hosting afternoon tea in London. When you sit down in the Piccadilly Circus hotel, the high society person inside you just can’t help but click into action—look at you nibbling excellent savouries and sweets all fancy. Keep the champagne flowing. To do otherwise would be sacrilege." - rianne shlebak, eileen twum

We went here for the Afternoon Tea and had a very lovely experience. The selection of sandwiches was very delicious and a free refill was offered as well. The cones with jam and butter were freshly made and warm and the little pastries were incredibly tasty! Loved also the selection of tea and tried 5 different ones as you can choose a new selection anytime. And obviously the location was stunning and the service outstanding. A very lovely place, not only for special occasions - even though it’s a bit pricey!

Afternoon tea at Café Royal Grill was nothing short of exquisite. From the moment I arrived the service was flawless a true 10/10 with staff who combined professionalism with a warm graceful touch. The setting itself is sophisticated yet cozy creating the perfect ambiance for an indulgent afternoon. Every detail was attended to with care making the experience feel both elegant and memorable. A truly refined destination for those who appreciate the art of afternoon tea.

Outstanding a must do for afternoon tea. Pricey but unlimited tea and sandwiches. We upgraded to sparkling wine mid-tier which was really good. Loved the atmosphere and fantastic live piano music.

My husband and I had the most unforgettable afternoon tea experience at the Café Royal Grill in London. From the moment we stepped into the opulent, gold-adorned dining room, we were transported to a world of timeless elegance and royal charm. The ceiling frescoes, baroque décor, and mirrored walls created an atmosphere that was both grand and intimate — like dining inside a living piece of art. The service was warm, attentive, and thoughtful throughout. My champagne flute was never empty for long, and the entire staff made us feel like honored guests. Each tier of the afternoon tea was a delight. The sandwiches were perfectly delicate and full of flavor. The scones — still warm — paired beautifully with clotted cream and jam. The desserts were the real showstoppers: exquisite, intricate, and utterly divine. Every detail, down to the fine china and the menu’s curated tea selections made the entire experience feel indulgent yet relaxed. If you're looking for a refined and memorable afternoon tea in London, Café Royal Grill is an absolute must. It was the highlight of our trip. P.S: the pianist was playing soft music in the background which make this whole experience impeccable.

My friends and I were debating keeping our reservation for afternoon tea at Cafe Royal - it is quite pricey and we weren't sure if it would be too stuffy for our group - well I'm so happy to say that we kept our reservation and had an absolutely amazing experience here. We were 5 of us in total and we were treated like Royalty from our initial welcome by the host to our final goodbye (after almost 3 hours!). We're not big drinkers, so we didn't feel the need to splurge for the tea options that included Champagne. We all did the £79 Afternoon Tea option, and were very happy with everything that's included - unlimited tea sandwiches (beef, truffle egg, chicken curry and cucumber), unlimited warm-fresh baked scones, clotted cream, strawberry and apricot jam, and unlimited petit four desserts. You could absolutely eat until your hearts (or stomachs) content! Our server was so kind and wonderful, never making us feel bad for ordering more of anything. My absolute only complaint would be the pacing of the experience. When you're seated, they are sure to tell you that the afternoon tea is a 2-hour experience, but I think that maybe they were short staffed on the day we went, because there were long stretches of time where we were just waiting to be served, resulting in our experience taking 3 hours, and honestly it would have been longer had we not had to get up and leave to make our next appointment. We did mention to our server that we had a hard stop at a certain time, which we hoped would have informed the pacing of our experience, but unfortunately it didn't and we ended up not getting to enjoy the petit fours due to having to leave. That small blip aside, afternoon tea at Cafe Royal was a truly spectacular and memorable experience, and is absolutely something I think is worth your time when in London! It is a quiet, upscale experience, so I think if you're uncomfortable in high-end venues then there are alternative tea experiences you would probably be more comfortable at. But if you're someone who appreciates history, architectural beauty, gild and glamour, fine bone-china and attentive service in an upscale venue, then this is an experience you don't want to miss!

The moment I stepped inside, I was completely enchanted by the atmosphere — it’s truly stunning. The interior is elegant and opulent, making it a perfect spot for a special treat or a peaceful escape. Every staff member was wonderfully kind, and I especially want to thank <Chris> for his warm hospitality. Even though I dined alone, I felt incredibly comfortable and well taken care of. I had the special Wimbledon seasonal course menu, and everything was absolutely delicious. A memorable experience I’d love to come back for. 💫

Google
The space is amazing despite having no windows. The ceiling panels have gold trim and paintings, feels really fancy. Food and service are also great. The set dinner at £35/£40 is a steal. Taking off one star because they don't readily provide tap water, but still ask for gratuity

Google
Beautiful restaurant in central London offering Modern European/french dishes. I went there for the dinner fixed menu and was very impressed with every dish! The cheese soufflé was delicious, my peppercorn steak was superb and the Eton mess did not disappoint. I also loved the live pianist! Would definitely come back to try other dishes!

Yelp
My partner and I had afternoon tea here with champagne (Veuve Clicquot) which came as a package. We ordered the Oscar Wilde Tea and the traditional sandwich's, scones and pastries. Everything was delicious, ambiance was stunning and the service was incredible. I highly recommend, worth the price for the experience! I will definitely go back when I'm in London.

Yelp
Absolutely my favorite afternoon tea place in London. I make sure to make a reservation any time I'm in the area. The place is just immaculately decorated. It could easily be classified as gaudy - with all of the gold decor only accented further by the bright red chairs and dim lighting - but it manages to remain luxuriously classy. There's no subtlety in its decoration, which fits perfectly that Oscar Wilde was their namesake! The service is fantastic. The staff are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the tea they serve. There's no limit to how many different types of tea you get. You get a whole teapot so try away. There are 4 different types of sandwiches you get. The chicken curry was my favorite. For the sweet portion, well, everything was my favorite!

Yelp
"We indulged in Afternoon Tea at Café Royal, also known as the Oscar Wilde bar, accompanied by my wife. Skipping breakfast turned out to be a wise decision, considering the abundance of delicious food served. During our over two-hour visit, we were pampered with exceptional service, especially from Shekhar, while enjoying live piano music. From the sandwiches to the desserts, everything was delectable, with the option for more readily available. We had the pleasure of sampling 3 to 4 pots of different teas from around the world, with the 'Milky Oulong' emerging as a personal favorite. This experience was undoubtedly a highlight of our trip, and we eagerly anticipate returning when in London again. The only drawback was the discomfort caused by the chairs."

Yelp
It's places like this that make you wish that Yelp offered an extra special 6th star to give to those places that truly go above and beyond any other, and leave you feeling like nowhere else will ever compare. I have never felt so attended to, so pampered, and so comfortable yet amazed with all my surroundings. This is a stunning and incomparably centrally located hotel, mere steps away from the tube and all the beautiful bustle of Piccadilly, but itself a refined, classic, and luxurious repose. Every single person I encountered from the doormen & bellhop to the hotel reception, housekeeping, and restaurant wait staff were wonderful - warm, accommodating, professional, and just the cream of the crop. Every person made me feel like my needs were of the utmost importance, and that feeling is so priceless when it comes to hospitality of this caliber. Upon check-in, I was in a hurry to make it to an afternoon tea reservation that I was late for due to surrounding road closures that delayed my arrival. The hotel staff checked me in with great efficiency and even offered to call the place on my behalf and let them know I'd be running about 10 mins late. The concierge called my room to let me know my new arrival time had been confirmed which gave me that extra peace of mind I needed and time to get ready to leave. The receptionist also let me know that she would be happy to give me a tour of the building once I'd returned from my plans and had more time. She indeed warmly followed through once I returned from my day, accompanying me to the various floors and amenities and offering historical background and recommendations for my stay. So beyond lovely and helpful. I dined at Barbounia on the 1st floor for dinner and had a really delicious and pleasant meal. This is also where complimentary breakfast took place, where I enjoyed a full english breakfast (+12gbp supplement), coffee, and yogurt. The hotel is so centrally located that I was able to take a relaxing morning walk to Buckingham Palace before checking out and heading to the airport. Check-out went very smoothly as well - they helped me to get a taxi to Heathrow, provided water and a place to sit comfortable for a few minutes as we waited for the car, and helped me load in my luggage. From start to finish, I was so impressed and delighted and will be returning as soon as I can!

Yelp
The Oscar Wilde Bar at Hotel Café Royal dates back to 1865 and with its gilded interiors, mirrors and ornate Louis XVI decor, is probably London's most opulent setting for Afternoon Tea. A perfect fit for the awe-inspiring universe of Van Gogh afternoon tea experience. Experience the brilliance of one of history's greatest artists and immerse yourselves in the creative mind of Van Gogh. They will take you on a historical magical tasting journey through his most famous art works. In partnership with one of the most successful global immersive exhibitions to date. The Van Gogh afternoon tea will be served in the Oscar Wilde Lounge. Located in the Hotel Cafe Royal, in the heart of London's West End between Mayfair and Soho. Reservations is a must! Cheers

Yelp
Came here for afternoon tea, which is located in the afternoon tea room at the hotel. Service is excellent. Sandwiches are absolutely delicious, especially the smoked salmon one. Not a huge fan of the scones, but they give u many other choices of tea desserts. They have a nice selection of tea choices and we picked earl grey orange which has a nice orange aroma flavor to the traditional earl grey tea. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A beautiful experience having high tea here. The piano player was excellent and the service overall is top notch. We enjoyed all the teas we had and the sandwiches and scones in particular were fantastic.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my managers 50th birthday while we were on a business trip from the States. Atmosphere is fancy AF, as you can imagine and overall we had a nice time. I gave three stars because we were the only people in there around 5 p.m. and it was a bit creepy, sorry. Our tea was fine and the nibbles were ok, standard but nothing stood out. I did like their creme fresh and it was neat that we had the option to include a Diptyque candle to our check if we were interested.

Yelp
The QUEEN of High Tea in London! This is honestly what all High Tea dreams are made of. Elegant, classy, delicious, historic, epic - all the things! Going to High Tea in England has been on my bucket list for a long time and I got to fulfill it on our trip to the UK! YAY! When researching the best spot for High Tea in London, Hotel Cafe Royal made it on to many lists so it was the clear winner. It lived up to all of my expectations and more. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time and be sure to wear your classiest attire. We started with champagne! Cheers! And then they let you order as many different pots of tea as your heart desires. The menu was impressive - it was so hard to choose. The teas are served in gorgeous China teapots. Yes, please! You start with tasty, savory tea sandwiches, then an orange jelly palate cleanser, scones, and last but certainly not least, the sweets. They'll bring you as many of the items as you'd like and pro tip: save room for dessert because the sweets are DREAMY! If you're looking to have High Tea in London, THIS IS YOUR SPOT! You will fall in love. It is pricy, but worth every penny.

Yelp
My roommate and I were visiting London for only two days and decided we should definitely do afternoon tea somewhere and I am so happy that we settled on this place. For $80 per person we received unlimited tea, sandwiches, and desserts. If you were to go to afternoon tea in Manhattan you wouldn't be getting refills on any of that! The tea selections were amazing it was so hard to choose! Between my roommate and I we went through six different flavors and each seemed even better than the one before. The waitress was more than happy to help recommend tea flavors to us as well. If you fall in love with one you can even buy some to bring home! The sandwiches were also heavenly. I am not someone who eats salmon and they were quick to accommodate it with a surprising and delightful truffled egg salad sandwich! I usually don't like egg salad either but it was so tasty I needed more! By the time we got to the desserts we were stuffed but I was so amazed by the detail that went into the desserts. There were even little gold leafs on a few of them! Overall we had an amazing time and would go back in a heartbeat. The piano player was also so talented I could have listened to him play all day.

Yelp
What a memorable experience having afternoon tea at Hotel Cafe Royal. Amazing ambiance and artwork in the room complimented by live piano. The sandwiches were impeccable, the pastries were tasty and inventive and the service was top notch. So many famous people have dined here and they even have a seat map showing which famous people have dined on each table. We learned that Rihanna had dined on our table.

Yelp
Afternoon Tea at Cafe Royal was on our list for this London visit We elected to partake in the the champers version because, let's be real, when they're offering a weekday afternoon w/ Veuve Clicquot "on them", 'nuff said! Hoping to get placed in the Oscar Wilde room, were were extremely lucky to not only be seated in Oscar Wilde but we were in pride of place - Princess Diana's favorite table because yeah, she was a frequent visitor. We had a gorgeous overview of the whole dining room We had their vegetarian tea & there was a special menu just for us - nice to have the dedicated experience so we didn't have to hunt around the menu for the veggie options We also elected to add a glass of Blanc de blancs for an extra special event & the sandwiches We had ordered a pot of their Queen Victoria blend and a pot of the Rose petal blend. Our 1st waiter suggested having the rose w/ the dessert source & that made sense to us but then we never got the 2nd pot of tea. We asked about it once desserts were brought out but the 2nd waiter never followed up & then the desserts were finished & we were no longer interested in another pot of tea - too bad because I'd really have liked to have tried it. Oh well, next time!

Yelp
This is a review for dinner. I noticed almost all other reviews were for the formal Tea service. Not sure why but go for dinner. It's very cool and an elegant setting, not stuffy. Overall 4.5 very strong. A unique approach. At first I thought it was a place that couldn't decide what it wanted to be. A complete sushi bar and offering with real Japanese sushi chefs. The menu also offered many seafood options, non sushi, in what is a real bar and grill. Yup. Sounds strange and isn't. This is London and we sat down about 8:30. Nothing really happens before 8 so if you're a typical American looking for the early bird you'll have the whole place to yourself at 7pm. Funny because in the US 7- 7:30 are coveted res times. Started with lobster sushi rolls. I copied the menu so you'll have an idea of how they're prepared. These are fantastic. Fresh as can be. Comes with 6 pieces. Very rich. A good split dish. Next, the Kale salad which my wife described as Super Food-- and loved it. As most of you know it's next to impossible to get a vegetable in Europe unless it's a side you order. I had the little gem salad. Very simple dish, superb ingredients light and tasty dressing. For mains I had the short rib, my wife had fish. Both were outstanding -- the only miscue of the night was temperature of the fish was Luke Warm. Not worth sending back. I couldn't eat it all it was so rich. As mentioned the cocktails are excellent, a large array of most any spirts you can imagine-- anyone for a little Louis XIII? Great wine list with knowledgeable servers, wine Som. Couldn't even look at the dessert list as we were very satisfied - the did Bring some comp chocolates with the check. We'd go back in NY minute.

Yelp
Gorgeous spot for afternoon tea, even Oscar Wilde thought so! The gilded room and live music are nice but the actual tea and treats are great, and the service is absolutely spectacular. We tried a few other places that either had very strict dress codes or required reservations, but HCR had availability for a last-minute res on Open Table and welcomed us in despite being in more casual attire. Their exclusive tea blends are diverse, and our group tried the Oscar (toasty!), Triple Mint (refreshing!), and Golden Caryatid (malty, with pearls!), all of which were tasty in their own way. My favorite bite of the food was the chef's amuse bouche, a goat cheese and pickled apple muffin with a bulb of apple juice. The sandwiches were nicely savory, particularly the coronation chicken. Next was a course of scones and clotted cream, which were warm and had a great texture. All of the desserts were almost too beautiful to eat, but so supremely delicious- particularly the apple and Tahitian vanilla caramel tart. As tasty as all the treats were, I still keep coming back to the service being what made it truly excellent- our servers were attentive and we were treated with the utmost professionalism and the live music was an excellent touch. Though the OWB room was beautiful, I wish the lighting were better for photos, which unfortunately didn't really turn out.

Yelp
What an amazing experience for afternoon tea! This was my first trip to London and I really wanted to have a true afternoon to experience. I booked Hotel café royal online and it was exactly as I had imagined it would be. The lounge is beautiful, the pastries, the tea, the champagne, the atmosphere- everything felt amazing! I felt like I was dining like royalty! There were only two of us and we stayed for several hours. The service was fantastic and we have multiple pots of tea and champagne refreshed consistently. There were several rounds of different pastries, a mix of savory and sweet. Everything was delicious it was hard to pick a favorite. It is certainly a pricey afternoon tea, but definitely a spot worth returning to!

Yelp
Was lucky to have been able to stay at Hotel Cafe Royal on a recent trip to London. Everything was beautiful and high quality from their stylish rooms to their ornate and sumptuous tearoom. The hotel is relatively large but very private and quiet despite our visit during high season. We enjoyed the location being highly acsessible in the heart of Piccadilly Circus and the security of the bellman manned front entry way that seemed to be secured 24/7. We also delighted in the high-tea service in the Oscar Wilde Tea Room which is renowned as one of the cities best. This was a fantastic experience, complete with fine china, sparkling crystal, fresh flowers and a classical pianist. There was a large variety of tea with a extensive and customizable food menu. Vegetarian and gluten-free options available as well. I enjoyed the tarragon egg salad, and the classic cucumber with dill-cream cheese. The biscuits with jam and cream were heavenly. The tea and service are appropriate for the price and leave you feeling very satisfied with the experience as a whole. The hotel really does create a first-class experience with amenities that are fully complete and can accommodate every whim an fancy that arises. The bar is great to invite friends and for after hours meetings and the restaurant was also very good, one could even say exceptional, if compared to other hotels in the area.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. We didn't stay here, but from what I could see it would be a great place to stay. We came here for high tea and I checked into the hotel but later realized that we were in the Oscar Wilde Bar room. That is where they serve high tea. When you walk into the hotel, you enter into a large area with a fireplace on each side. There's a beautiful center table decorated with different flowers. You will then see a spiral staircase going up several floors. Even if you don't stay the night in this hotel, you should walk in to see the inside.

Yelp
When you think of london, england - you think of their British tea & their renowned high teas! Had the opportunity to check out this high tea with my mom & enjoyed the overall experience. Beautiful decor of the cafe with excellent service. The food on the other hand was nothing spectacular unfortunately. Did enjoy the overall experience & the tea! Its a great way to take a mini snack/tea break after shopping!

Yelp
We came to enjoy their afternoon tea in the ornate Oscar Wilde lounge. Cafe Royal was awarded "Best Traditional Afternoon Tea" in 2017, and it certainly lived up to its award. From the beautifully decorated gilded room with mirrors and painted ceilings; it felt like a room from another era. Additionally, there was a pianist who played nonstop for almost 2 hours. What better way to start the afternoon tea experience. Our server suggested to select 2 types of tea. One to enjoy with the tea sandwiches and a more fruity one to enjoy with the scones and pastries. The tea sandwiches were the traditional ones such as cucumber, egg salad, smoked salmon, chicken salad and ham. Scones were traditional as well with plain and raisin options. All tea sandwiches and scones were delicious and we ordered a second helping of both. The pastries were the only thing on the menu not as traditional and for us, they were not as delicious which was fine because we were so full by this time. I should also mention that children receive a 50% discount off the menu as well as an option to order hot chocolate instead of tea. My son is allergic to cheese, so they made him special tea sandwiches. Service was very accommodating. We enjoyed our authentic British tea experience in this gorgeous room, would highly recommend to all.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. Tasteful and traditional, with a modern, sophisticated flair. Service was excellent all the way around, particularly the Concierge staff, who arranged transportation, tours, theatre tickets and reservations. Hands down the best service we've ever had (no hyperbole). Will definetly be back and highly recommend!

Yelp
I've been to afternoon tea at Oscar Wilde's here three times and it has quickly become my go-to spot when visiting London, whether with friends or, on one occasion, on my own! The service is exquisite every single time. The offerings of both teas and food are sumptuous to be sure. I still stop myself and just think about the clotted cream. My god, what a miracle of dairy that is! Looks like I will be back in London in November 19 and you can rest assured I will be back at Oscar Wilde's at the Cafe Royal at some point!

Yelp
This place is not 24 hours and it should be changed On the site as the restaurant closes during regular business hours. So if you come looking for a late night bite to eat this is not the place.

Yelp
I brought my Mum here for a lovely afternoon tea. Although they have a cafe next to the hotel entrance, the actual Afternoon Tea is served in the Oscar Wilde Bar, so you should use the main hotel entrance. The staff are very pleasant and although we arrived a few minutes before they opened, after we put our coats in the cloakroom, we were ushered into the restaurant straight away. There is a mountain of tea to choose from. Our tastes are pretty ordinary so it was not long before we had 2 pots of tea on the table and a stand of assorted savory treats were before us shortly thereafter. The cakes and scones came out next and since everything is so filling they were very gracious in boxing up what we could not eat and letting us bring it home. Needless to say everything was delicious.

Yelp
Desserts for dinner! What more could you want! We went in a group to experience the lovely dessert menu options they offer. The menu offers several three, four and five course selections, with optional wine pairing, to choose from. And boy, is it hard to choose! Everything sounds so delicious. I chose the 3-course Memories Of A Child menu, which at the time included Gaspacho, Yozu Yogurt and a strawberry and cream lollipop. The atmosphere is quite airy and relaxed, so we chatted while eagerly awaiting our food. The Gaspacho came with "molecular gastronomy" style olive oil beads and olive crumble, delicately arranged on the Burrata, which unfortunately was swept and drowned in the cold soup they served on top. The watermelon and tomato paired very well together, the soup was slightly greasy and a bit oversalted, especially paired with an already salty ham and cheese pairing. The Yozu Yogurt was amazing, delicately flavoured Lego style bricks that were light and fluffy. Served with crunchy meringues, velvety sherbert, smooth lemon curd and a tangy lemon crumble. While the plate looked slightly messy, the tastes and textures were absolutely fantastic. This was definitely my favourite dish. The strawberry lollipop wasn't quite what we expected. The wooden lollipop stick came out immediately and didn't hold the almost runny dessert at all, making it impossible to pick it up and nibble away. As soon as the cold strawberry flavoured crust was broken, the creamy dessert inside ran all over the place. Awkwardly picking it up with the spoon worked to manoeuvre a mixture of creamy vanilla and poached strawberries into one's oral cavity. The following taste sensation definitely made it worth the effort of trying to eat this mess without spilling it everywhere. The dishes were definitely aimed at pleasing the eye, but the tastes and textures were not completely neglected. I did feel the price was a touch too high for what was offered and we ended up having seven meals on our bill when there were only six of us. This was corrected eventually, but only after we were accused of not paying our bill fully. Overall it was definitely an experience worth splurging on, I'll be back to sample more of their delicate creations!

Yelp
Top notch world class hotel. I've very much enjoyed my stay here especially the part where everyone knew my name and greeted me with a smile. I got a suite here and loved it. When I checked in the front desk lady actually walked me into my room to make sure it was to my liking. The room had no pictures hung but the architecture itself was a work of art. My two favorite things about the room was the huge shower and heated floors. The windows were doubled up to prevent any street noise from coming in. Everything is pricey here but they have the service to back it up. My breakfast was delicious and concierge goes out of their way to get you anything you need. You really felt that the staff has your best interest in mind. My only disappointment was the afternoon tea I had here. I didn't really enjoy the taste of the food.

Yelp

Yelp
Lovely place to have drinks. The cocktails are very expensive (20 GBP per) but they are well made and come with really interesting snacks. The thing I like most about Café Royal is the ambiance. The bar is gorgeous, the lighting nice, the music smooth, and a really nice change of pace from the incredibly noisy pubs where I can't even have a conversation. Good service, great cocktails, nice ambiance.

Yelp
I came here for a pre-theatre meal with my family to celebrate my sister's birthday. It's a nice space with interesting costumes and art around the place. Service was fast. I had the yellowfin tuna nicoise which was an elevated version of this salad (see picture). Beautifully seared tuna with a small quails egg, olives, green beans, salad leaves and a little fondant potato. Lovely ingredients though needed a little more seasoning. Overall would recommend BUT quite expensive for what it is. Only one vegetarian option offered too. We used a gourmet society card for 25% off total bill so ultimately good value. Not worth the money full price thouh.

Yelp
Came here for high tea with my friend Rachel and had an absolute blast! The decor is amazing, and they set the ambience with a wonderful piano player. Our waitress was very polite, professional, and sweet. We enjoyed a glass of champagne, 2 different teas, and a variety of tea sandwiches + sweets! My friend wasn't thrilled with most of the sandwiches, but the waitress kindly offered to bring out more of the cucumber ones she liked which was really sweet. She also let us know we were seated at Princess Diana's favorite table, which made the experience all the more memorable. It was pricey but a great experience, highly recommended for high tea.

Yelp
For an expensive and luxury cafe one expects permission to relax and enjoy ones drink. I would argue that this is the absolute minimum requirement of such a venue. The service was continuously surly and the wait staff felt it reasonable to walk past every minute or so scowling at the table. I especially enjoyed the scorn received on asking for tap water to clean my palette. Really didn't make for a pleasant experience. The food and drink was beautifully presented, however I would have felt more relaxed and welcomed in the Starbucks just down the road. A disappointment.

Yelp
I went with my girlfriend to celebrate our 5th year anniversary during our first trip to London. Juat by walking into the hotel lobby we knew we would have a great fine dinning experience, but we never expected the service to be so amazingly good. The food: We started with the Wagyu Nigiri, which is by far the best Nigiri we've ever had. For the main, we had the angus filet and the ribeye with sides of gratinated potatoes. The meat was cooked to perfection and the side was very tasty. The service: The food was amazing, but the service was just something you could only expect at the royal palace. We've been to many countries and to many fancy restaurants but we've never seen anything like this. The highlights 1) We said "happy anniversary" to each other. One of the waiters overhead us and even prepared a lovely dessert for us. 2) Unfortunately, I started to fill dizzy mid dinner (nothing to do with the food or the restaurant). They noticed it and made sure I had water, sugar and fresh air and even walked me to the restroom. They were authenticly concerned which means a lot. 3) Everyone was smiling at us, but the 3 most valuable players were the waitress (didn't get his name but he was from Bulgaria, extremely great service) , the bartender (he made a special drink for my girlfriend who doesn't drink alcohol, she LOVED it) and the general manager (Dinos), that made sure we got VIP treatment for our anniversary and also showed authentic empathy for my random health problem. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting London, more than a dinner, it's an experience. Just go, it's a must.

Yelp
I goto afternoon tea everywhere I go and this is definitely one of the better ones I have been to. The Macaron was amazing and they delivered so much food. Too much food, but an amazing variety. The service was excellent, the pianist was excellent a s the décor was... Interesting! I'd definitely go back again.

Yelp
I had brunch here a few months ago and the first thing i noticed was it had no fry up?????? Obviously to posh for that, so we had the smoked salmon to start - very expensive but tasty then the scrambled eggs with bacon. The bacon was streaky so rather fatty and the eggs had a unique taste i have no idea if it was cheese or sour cream or buttermilk perhaps? I wouldn't go back for brunch or perhaps try a different restaurant inside the hotel.

Yelp
My husband and I came for high tea as the first stop on our Honeymoon about 2 weeks ago! We were blown away by the ambiance, the food, the TEA, and the service. While we were there (2-3:30PM) a piano player played a bunch of classical music, as well as Disney songs and the theme songs to Game of Thrones and Westworld (my husband and I loveddd this). We loved all the tea but the one I remember most was the Lychee Rose which was absolutely amazing. We are vegetarian and I am allergic to nuts and the staff was so accommodating and did not at all make this seem like an inconvenience, which I always really appreciate. The truffle egg salad sandwiches are unreal- definitely ask for those. Also I don't remember her name but our waitress was so sweet and it was her first day, so yay her! She let us know that the tea room used to be frequented by both Winston Churchill and Princess Diana-pretty cool. -also- we were actually planning on going to the Savoy for High Tea and only found this place once I realized it was fully booked. I am so happy that this happened and can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
This place is not cheap. However, it is impressive. Doormen push open doors for you and the service is swift and quick. The Oscar Wilde bar is probably one of the most opulently decorated bars in London. The amount of gold everywhere is insane - on the tables, chairs and the bar itself. In a place like this you feel you have to order champagne and if you're on a date you won't get change for £40. They threw in a few posh nuts and snacks but I'm not sure it was worth £40. If opulence is your thing then consider Beach Blanket Babylon, which is decorated in a similar style but cheaper.

Yelp
This great hotel is unknowingly hosting a malicious, immoral company, Quality Education Company, Ryhiad, Saudi Arabia, for a job fair recruiting English teachers on June 29-30, 9am-4pm. US Embassy, Ryhiad, (Jan. 2018) reported over 60 complaints in the past year, which was 10x the second most complained about company in Saudi. Complaints ranged from refusal to give a final salary, refusal to pay for full airfare to exit, refusal to refund teachers out of pocket expenses, they issue a single entry nonwork visa that traps you there on weekends and breaks. Low quality and often times dangerous-unhealthy housing as they pocket the difference. It's a teacher contract kickback scheme that starts with underbidding the contracts. QEC then has designed schemes to unburden teachers of their salary, medical insurance, housing allowance, sanity, issue a nonwork visa. At these recruitment fairs, they are very deceptive and dishonest, whatever they 'promise' it all evaporates in the hot desert sun. Here are some examples of the contract fraud. The housing allowance is approx. 800$ a month but QEC will house you in a 200$ month apartment or hotel that are often run down, tiny boxes or unsanitary and unhealthy. Instead of issuing the standard Class A medical insurance, QEC will blame BUPA for not issuing insurance when in fact QEC had not even applied. If one gets insurance (I never did as a regional manager) it will be Class C, which is common for maids and laborers making 500$ a month. AYOR https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIEPObjbk2U

Yelp
My husband and I chose the Oscar Wilde Lounge to have afternoon tea during our Valentine's Day trip. It was fantastic! The employees were friendly, courteous and the live pianist was a pleasant addition to an overall beautiful setting. Everything is perfectly presented, down to the menus sealed with a (sticker) wax seal and gold flake garnish on the desserts. Also, the menu makes a great keepsake if you're into keeping travel mementos. It was hard to choose our types of tea as they have a great selection (25+ types) but we were not disappointed with our choices: the Queen Victoria black tea and Phoenix Honey Orchid Oolong. The Oolong has a most wonderful scent to enjoy before and as you are sipping. I enjoyed almost every bite (the black bread is not for my tastes) and what we were not able to finish there, they boxed up for us to take with us. I loved the Oolong so much that we also bought a bit for later as well; all the types can be purchased by weight to take with you. Give yourself around two hours to fully relax and enjoy the experience!

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed afternoon tea following the Christmas holidays. We were hard pressed to find a reservation at any of the "trendier" afternoon tea spots at short notice. As an American, I was interested in having the authentic high tea experience and my English husband had never been to a proper afternoon tea at a restaurant. The Hotel Cafe Royal definitely gave us a traditional experience. The tea was lovely and our server was incredibly welcoming and kind - something I rarely experience outside of the US. We were thrilled with how he poured our champagne in the air! We did feel disappointed to be seated in the upstairs tea room which was much less ornate and beautiful than the Oscar Wilde room, which made our experience feel less festive and special. I chose this tea because of the photos of the Oscar Wilde room, so you can imagine my disappointment. I expect we should have made an earlier reservation to be seated there. I'm still dreaming of the scones, but could have done with a second tray of savory sandwiches and far less sweets. We understand, that's what we signed up for!

Yelp
The Cafe Royal is an odd bar and I can't quite make up my mind as to whether I am a fan or not. Some parts are extremely pleasant and others quite the opposite. It features a number of different bar rooms; The Grill Room is decked out in a very old-fashioned way and is the sort of place you would feel happy taking your grandparents for a birthday tea! The Daniel's Bar located downstairs is slightly more lively for the younger folk and they often have special events including live music and entertainment. It is a great place to escape from the bustle of Regent Street even if you can't benefit from a company paid free bar. The music is low enough that you can hear your conversations and you can just about manage to grab one of the comfy sofas. Prices are not as bad as you'd expect - a spirit and mixer worked out at around £3. I completely expected Cafe Royal to be a tourist haunt as it is so predominant on Regent Street and just has that look about it from the outside. I should not judge a book by its cover however but still feel that it is a somewhat odd and 'fragmented' type place.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! Quite a few years have passed since I last visited the Cafe Royal; it used to be stuffy and old-fashioned - in a bad way. Uninspiring mass catering for events and pretty awful service. What a transformation, the Cafe Royal has been transformed into a classy hotel with several bars and restaurants - and a cafe! The tired velvet curtains have been replaced by modern panelling and the staff reflect the refreshed look. It now does justice to the glorious building it is housed in, and to its name - fit for a queen!

Yelp
Wow what can I say but I went along to The Café in Hotel Café Royal to experience their desserts that they sell and what can I say but WOW. I went along with some Yelp friends which made the whole experience even better as the company alone was great. Now about the desserts what can I say but wow wow wow the desserts that was served was amazing looking alone with lego brick type moose and lollipop looking dessert made out of strawberry moose but the taste was a massive explosion on the tongue with its tanginess and sharpness all what a girl expects from a dessert. Not bland at all super sweet and tangy I highly recommend if you want a dessert that is tangy and not bland and gives you a explosion of taste sensation in your mouth. Go along!

Yelp
OMG. What a place. Sat at Oscar Wilde's table observing the crowd as I had my royally marvellous Champagne afternoon tea. It's not cheap, but it's the best experience you will get. Don't miss it!

Yelp
Opulent surroundings if a little warm. Service was very good and the selection and quality of food great. The dark chocolate raspberry mousse 'truffle' was possibly the best chocolate dessert I have EVER tasted (& I've eaten a lot of chocolate!) Their house tea blend (1865) was very good too.
