Where to Drink Guinness in the Austin Area This Holiday Season | Eater

"The serene town of Georgetown just north of Austin has a quickly-growing restaurant and bar scene, and one key element of that scene is the Grumpy George, a British pub with contemporary polish. Snacks like Reuben egg rolls and loaded curry chips pair excellently with a smooth Guinness, and the sticky toffee pudding is not to be missed." - Taylor Tobin

We came here 2 1/2 years ago when this pub opened at the Georgetown square. It has a great location but unfortunately that’s the only thing going for it. We came back after Gordon Ramsey included it in his kitchen nightmares show. Although the ambiance was a little better, the food had not improved. We had the Scotch Eggs which were burnt and the Welsh Rarebit, which looked like a grilled cheese was absolutely unappetizing. We noticed that several other patrons were enjoying their Fish and Chips. We were pleasantly surprised when the bill came; the waitress had taken off the food and just charged us with drinks. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she said “of course.” We applaud that kind of service. We hope the restaurant will improve their food offerings.😀

I visited The Grumpy George on a busy night, and despite the packed house, service was impressively quick. The food arrived hot and fresh, making for a fantastic dining experience. Scotch Egg (10/10) – Absolute perfection. The yolk was beautifully runny, the seasoning spot-on, and the crispy exterior was just right. The delicious pickle topping on the side added a great tangy contrast. Fish and Chips (9/10) – Nearly flawless. Served piping hot, with a golden, crispy batter. The very ends were slightly too crunchy, and the fish itself could have used just a touch more seasoning, but overall, excellent. The tartar sauce was outstanding. Mushy Peas (10/10) – A surprise highlight! Incredibly flavorful and far superior to versions I’ve had elsewhere. A must-try. Sticky Toffee Pudding (10/10) – Moist, rich, and decadent. The sauce was divine, and the pairing with ice cream made it even better. English Garden Cocktail (8/10) – A unique and refreshing drink with a pleasant floral note. However, it tasted slightly watered down and could have used a bit more intensity. Overall, The Grumpy George delivered an amazing British comfort food experience. The minor critiques didn’t take away from an otherwise stellar meal. I’d absolutely return!

Enjoyed a date night here this evening. This was our first time dining here. The food was delicious. My wife got the fish and chips, I ended up getting the strip steak. As a side, I ordered the creamed cabbage and peas (which did not disappoint). My only recommendation is to upsize the steak. 8 ounces is too small for Texas!

My Hubby and I recently saw the Grumpy George's relaunch featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. The owner's newfound knowledge and food looked amazing so we decided to give it a try! We've never eaten British cuisine before so we were excited to experience the food! I just got out of the hospital so I'm craving good food! My Hubby and I also missed Valentine's Day because I was in the hospital so we needed a nice outing. The restaurant has a ramp that is handicap accessible (thank you!) and a small area of outside seating. The inside is cozy and stylish and looks like the traditional English Pubs we've seen on TV. The servers were absolutely great! They were attentive, friendly, and on top of everything! There was hardly any wait time for our appetizers and main dishes. It wasn't very crowded because we got there before the dinner rush, but there were still a decent amount of customers. The Food: Since we've never had traditional British food, we weren't sure what to expect. All of Gordon's menu items from the show were available. The menu is short and sweet, but still a variety. The prices are just a tad higher than your average sit down restaurant, but the servings and food were well worth it. We ordered the Scotch Egg of course with piccalilli and it was delicious! We've never had one and it was a great first experience! My Hubby ordered the Lamb Shepherd's pie, and I ordered Fish and Chips with a side of Creamed Cabbage. Hubby really enjoyed his Shepard's Pie! The Lamb adds a great, unique taste as opposed to the ground beef we usually use. My Fish and Chips plate came with Tartar sauce, Ketchup, and a small dish of mushy peas! The beer battered fish was one of the largest pieces I've ever seen! It was cooked to perfection! It was crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth, buttery tender on the inside! It was delicious! The fries were also cooked well. I had a drink called "Fancy a Cuppa Pimm's" which came in an iced chiled copper cup that kept it cool! The Strawberry and Cucumber flavors were great and I enjoyed it! However, in my opinion, the absolute STAR of the show was the Creamed Cabbage!! I've never had it before, but I love cabbage. I've eaten cabbage many different ways here in the south, but never like this! Let me tell you..it was THE most delicious cabbage dish I've ever eaten! It had cream, cabbage, peas, and small pieces of smoked bacon. This combination is fit for the Gods! I'm not kidding when I say that I was so sad when I ate the last of it. I would drive hours just to have it again! The Sticky Toffee Pudding dessert was also very delicious! If I had to offer any constructive criticism, it would be what other people are saying about the lack of seasoning. The Shepherds Pie and the fish batter were a little under seasoned. I'm not a big fan of restaurants putting a lot of salt, pepper, or spicy stuff on things. If a customer wants more, we can just use the salt and pepper provided at the table instead of it being served too salty or too spicy..So, when I say it wasn't seasoned enough, I mean it was less than the minimal amount of any type of seasoning needed for that dish. However, because everything was cooked perfectly, the lack of seasoning was forgivable. We just salt and peppered it ourselves. I've never had Malt Vinegar, so I didn't know what it was when I saw it on our table. I read today that it goes well on the fish, so I'll try that next time too. I wish the server would have mentioned what it was and its purpose for us non British folk! Also, our table had a broken leg that wobbled a bit. Not a huge deal. Overall, it was a great experince! It was especially a treat to taste Gordon Ramsay's recipes from his traditional British background. He taught the cooks here well! It was also good to see the familiar staff. We've been telling all of our friends about this unique British Pub experience as well as the great food! I have to go back to the hospital for another surgery soon and will be craving good food again after. So, we'd love to return to the Grumpy George!

After seeing this on Chef Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare, my wife and I had to visit this place since the change looked fantastic. The service and staff were exceptional and very attentive. The food itself came out quickly, warm and tasty. The atmosphere was cozy. We tried the scotch egg 5/5. Shepherd' pie 4/5. Cooked great, but a little under seasoned. Fish and Chips 4/5. Cooked to perfection with the fries, but again slightly under seasoned. Creamed cabbage and pees with Smoked bacon 5/5. Best cabbage my wife ever had! I don't particularly like cabbage but I loved this dish as well. Only major complaint was the physical table were we sat to eat. Very wobbly, and when I inspected it, there was a strip of material attempting to balance one of the legs.

Google
Georgetown has some really good places to eat and the Grump George is one of them. The fish and chips are very good. Not too greasy and very tasty. I deducted one star for too much salt in the chips (let me add my own) and too much vinegar in the mushy peas (and use marrow fat peas). We will be back.

Google
A smashing British pub in the heart of beautiful Georgetown! My pork and sausage scotch egg cook was on point and crispy. The pub atmosphere is cozy and the wait staff are super friendly and attentive. A great local hang out for good drinks and tasty food. A must try!

As someone from the UK living in Austin, this was a great experience of authentic British cuisine. I got closer to home with everything I miss. Yes- it was featured on kitchen nightmares but this place is the best. Shout outs to the cured salmon, rarebit, shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and fish and chips. Thank you for existing!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hidden spots at the square. Not only I come here often, but evety time I have a great time. Intimate, yet open to mingle. I love the service and the drinks are fantastic! Come take a look at this spot. It's definitely worth it!

Yelp
"Grumpy George", an English pub in Georgetown, Texas. A novel idea and definitely a courageous stand in a city surrounded by Brisket and Tex-Mex. I applaud the owner for taking this venture on. Authentic Fish and chips has always been one of my favorite dishes to enjoy, yet hard to find here, along with Asian and Baja style Mexican food. I'd just read that this restaurant was a Gordon Ramsay's, "Kitchen Nightmares" make over, that would air later tonight. So I wanted to eat here before it became famous. I'm not sure what the challenge was before. The menu is simple, definitely not "Cheesecake Factory", but maybe that's what they needed. We ordered Fish and Chips and the burger. Everything is cooked to order so it took a normal amount of time. There were a few folks inside, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. Although, it seems like they could use just one more server. The two here were humping. I'll let you be the judge. Come on down and check out the Grump. Michael C. - Georgetown, Tx.

Yelp
My wife, who's a big Ramsay fan, and I visited Grumpy George after its recent appearance on Kitchen Nightmares. We tried the Rarebit Toast, Scotch Eggs, Crispy Fried Shrimp, Shepherd's Pie, and the Bangers and Mash. The toast was disappointing, with a topping that resembled cheese wiz and tasted burnt, neither of us had more than a bite. The Scotch Eggs had a perfectly cooked egg interior, but unfortunately, the outside was burnt, overshadowing any enjoyment. The shrimp was decent but nothing remarkable. The Shepherd's Pie was underwhelming, with a lamb filling that tasted like sloppy joes topped with overly crisp and dry mashed potatoes. The Bangers and Mash were essentially mashed potatoes with sausage reminiscent of what you'd pick up at HEB, with the sausage doing most of the heavy lifting. It also had what I can only explain as pickled caramelized onions The Bloody Mary was enjoyable, but the New Fashioned cocktail was overwhelmingly sweet, tasting like pure syrup. I'm not typically a picky eater, and it's rare for me to dislike Shepherd's Pie, but I found myself swapping dishes with my wife because I couldn't finish it. Given the steep prices, even judging by bar food standards, the overall experience simply wasn't worth it. The only thing we finished was the shrimp, and the Bloody Mary's, which doesn't feel great for a 150 dollar lunch

Yelp
Came in for a Thursday lunch upon recognizing the restaurant from the show. We were seated immediately and decided to try the creamed cabbage & peas with smoked bacon for starters. For mains, we ordered the Grumpy smash burger and shepherd's pie. Overall, the burger and fries were amazing, cooked and seasoned well. The shepherd's pie presentation was beautiful but lacked a bit in seasoning under the hood. I really wanted to try their 'New' old fashioned but will have to next time!

Yelp
It was good - no major issues or complaints. We drove from Waco just to eat here. We got the scotched egg and he enjoyed it as well as the Shepards pie. I got the smash burger... but it wasn't a smash burger. It was just a normal burger. The patties were thick and shrunk way too much that half of the bun was empty. The cheese tasted ultra processed. I feel like I could have made this burger at home myself. Smash burgers are iconic and something people in the area crave because of what should be a high temp and fast cooking time char. Service was great though. Our waitress was attentive and checked on us multiple times. The wait time was quite long. We ordered and didn't get anything for about 40 minutes. We were the one of the two only tables and we were the first ones whose orders were taken, so it wasn't slammed busy. There were a couple of guys who came in with pizza and stayed at the bar, which kinda put us off because we were hungry. Overall, the food was good, just not nothing that we felt like we were missing out on. Not really worth the drive, but just very mediocre.

Yelp
We went on the first night of the soft opening after the refresh and a week later and the food was excellent and service was timely and attentive, considering how busy they were. The Shepard's Pie was hearty and very tasty, the roasted carrots were exceptional, and the Fish & Chips was also very good! The fried cod loin was perfectly done as were the steak fries and the mushy peas were a perfect complement, but the fresh-made Tartare Sauce was perfect and the best I've had in decades since making it at Piccadilly and Luby's with scratch-made mayonnaise lots of chopped sour pickles and fresh parsley. It's a great place with the ambiance and vibe to match the English Pub concept and the restaurant should only get better with hard work everyday!

Yelp
We came here after watching the kitchen nightmares episode to see if it had improved. I think it did slightly, they did take the pork belly sliders off the menu which was my favorite. My friend got the fish and chips, he said the breading was light and crispy on the fish. It was a beefy piece of fish when he wished it was two strips of fish instead of one. The smash burger was yummy according to my other friend but she couldn't finish it all. I got the fries and bangers and mash which were divine and I don't usually enjoy sausage. The remodel of the restaurant looked awesome also! I will definitely be back with more friends! I hope the place is successful because it is lovely!

Yelp
When it comes to The Grumpy George, I'm torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars. It really deserves something right in between. I ate there last week with family and I appreciated the ambiance, even if it's a bit too clean, too new, too shiny to deliver the pub feel one gets used to visiting venues across North America and even the UK and Ireland. That said, the food was good, albeit a little bit expensive. We got the fish and chips and it came with just one piece of cod. Thankfully it was a large piece, but I've seen reviewers previously complain that they didn't get so lucky. Maybe it would be better to serve 2-4 pieces instead of one? Perception matters... The taste was good in any case and my husband really liked his mashed peas. Fries (excuse me, chips!) were also good. The glazed carrots as a side were tasty and not too overwhelming, easy to pair with whatever dish was on the table. Surprisingly The Grumpy George did not have tea bags of any kind but they were kind enough to boil some hot water in a mug for my mother in law who had a sore throat that evening. I happened to have some tea bags with me (a lady has to be ready for any circumstance!) so that solved the issue. The service was good, and we didn't have to wait long to get seated, even on a Saturday evening. So it all worked out. Now, would I go back? That's the question... If invited, sure. But on my own? Unlikely. I have experienced more exciting pubs elsewhere, although I will admit that Texas in general doesn't have a whole lot of options...

Yelp
Such a cool place! Everything I tried was delicious- and the fish was huge on the fish and chips. Had some great cocktails and amazing service!

Yelp
Visited again to try the updated menu and everything was delicious. We loved the scotch egg and rarebit toast which I had never tried before but really enjoyed. Service was still a bit slow but everyone was very friendly, drinks were great, and we loved the atmosphere. Cheers to the Grumpy George - a welcome addition to the Square and a standout spot for British pub fare which is rare is these parts.

Yelp
So, we decided to pop in and have a night cap. For us, a night cap is 8:00pm. The Grumpy George is a nice, 'dive bar' (Meaning), it's our kind of place. Mostly adults, but child friendly. The lady next to us said the Fish and Chips are fantastic, and a house speciality. We will be back. Stay hungry and thirsty my friends...

Yelp
We go every time we are in Georgetown, amazing food great atmosphere and service. Nice little walk in town to site see.

Yelp
Great service. Ran Out of some food but will return for it! What we ate was fantastic. Fish and chips and the Pudding/desert. The staff was awesome sauce.

Yelp
There are a lot of things that are difficult about downtown Georgetown (The Square in particular) these days. Parking is terrible. There is construction. And prices for anything food-wise are very high. The Grumpy George shares allk those problems. But there is something different. After hiking from the parking spot I could find on a Saturday, I stepped into the cool air and dark confines of a wonderful, family-friendly pub. The service was immediate and and warm as I sat at the bar. Of course, in a pub, I ordered a Guinness. The pour took several minutes and was PERFECT. The prices on the menu are...pricey. $20 for fish and chips woth a side? I didn't try it so I'm not knocking it just giving a heads up. the atmosphere, honestly, makes it worth trying. I had the pastry wrapped sausage, delicious! Despite the inconveniences I have made Grumpy a meeting place for my friends visiting from Austin. It is a wonderful environment. You can start a day on The Square there, finish it there or just stay put. I'll dock it a star for prices but I still enjoy a pint there.

Yelp
Grumpy is a great addition to the Georgetown Square. We three stopped by for Apps and cocktails. This is a British-themed bar with some interesting brews on tap. Our Apps were large and our craft cocktails were good pours. We saw some food travel by and the fish and chips looked tremendous. They have some interesting Brit-themed food such as Pork And Sage Scotch Egg and Bangers And Mash. There are TVs if you wish to catch a game, a long bar with plenty of seating, large booths, and plenty of smaller tables. Grumpy reminds me of the Kenny Fort Pub in Round Rock in a good way.

Yelp
Nice little bar in downtown Georgetown. The bartenders are friendly and prompt. They have a really nice cocktail menu! The drinks are great! Austin/Dallas prices for sure hehe but I'd love to go back.

Yelp
Tonight's special, blackened chicken and andouille pasta was out of this world! As a native Louisianan, I can attest this was tasty!!!
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Staff has no social skills. The service is painfully slow and the food was definitely not worth the wait. Chef Ramsey would be sorely disappointed. What a squandered opportunity. @Karen S We were there today 3/1/25 around 12:30 pm-1:30 pm. Seems to me that I am trying to help you understand, but you just aren't hearing me.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome place! My family is new to Georgetown so we never got to try it before the Kitchen Nightmares show, but we came in today and truly enjoyed it! We had the fish and chips, fried shrimp and the favorite was the double smash burger. Oh Lordy it was good! The atmosphere is great to! Love the decor!

Yelp
Food was sooo good. Burger was delicious, fries were crispy and on point! And bangers and mash were very flavorful and delicious (: Drinks were nice and strong too! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I got the fish and chips and it was really good. Fish was hot and fries were yummy. Fish was a good portion and crispy.

Yelp
I would give the Grumpy George a 4.5/5 stars, but Yelp doesn't let me give half stars. I really like this pub and restaurant. The server, who was also the manager was SO nice. She definitely made me feel beyond welcome. I had the bangers and mash, as well as a side of the glazed carrots. I think the food was great, the only thing that I would have preferred is if the onion gravy was a bit thicker. The sticky toffee pudding is FANTASTIC. Good experience, I don't know why people hate on this place
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
The best burger in Georgetown! Perfectly cooked and juicy. Bun and fries were very good. Also got their burrata heirloom tomato salad and it was amazing. Ingredients were fresh and the dressing was light but flavorful. Like summer in my mouth. I added shrimp to it and this was the star of the meal. They butterfly grilled it with a slight char but it was still moist and tasted very fresh. The ambiance here is super fun and aesthetically moody but upscale. Service was excellent. Definitely a great place for drinks. Hubs got a Negroni and they did the one big ice cube thing so I'm sure their cocktail selection is top notch--will have to come back to try them.

Julia H.

Yelp
If your visiting Georgetown, try Grumpy George, British style pub with excellent fish & chips, reminded me of home. friendly service, and good beer. Limited menu but has everything that's typically British. Gordon Ramsey changed this place and I must say did an excellent job. Brits will feel as if they are back home, loved it!

Cami E.

Yelp
Grumpy George's English Pub in Georgetown, TX, offers an exceptional dining experience that's hard to beat. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with excellent service, and the food is served quickly without sacrificing quality. The fish and chips are a standout--huge portions with a light, crispy beer batter, and the fries are perfectly cooked, maintaining their crispness. The crispy shrimp appetizer is another highlight, complemented by a delicious homemade dipping sauce that elevates the dish. The creamed cabbage and peas with bacon are nothing short of mesmerizing, with a complex flavor that leaves you intrigued and smiling when you finally figure out the secret ingredient. To top off your meal, the sticky toffee pudding is a must-try--it's the perfect, sweet ending to a fulfilling meal. The real charm of Grumpy George's, however, lies in the family owners, who are kind, humble, and hardworking. Their genuine nature makes the experience even more enjoyable, and it's clear that they're dedicated to creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It's an establishment you'll want to visit and support, not just for the food, but because of the incredible people behind it. We will ALWAYS have a meal here every time we are in Georgetown!!

Meghan S.

Yelp
Do not eat at the Grumpy George Pub in Georgetown TX. It was featured in one of Gordon Ramsay's shows but has gone downhill significantly since filming. The episode aired recently. Terrible food bad service and grumpy staff. Not a good representation of British Food. Reality: after a 50 minute wait for 'bangers and mash', the mash arrived cold and the server was a sour puss. Terrible food. Gordon Ramsey has not fixed this place. Only good thing during the 'meal' was Old Speckled Hen beer! We didn't finish our meal and left in disgust over the quality and lack of proper care from the kitchen. Avoid the The Grumpy George at all costs. Bad representation of a 'British Pub'. Gordon Ramsay needs to be aware as this place will be closed by EOY latest.Reality. Very burnt scotch egg. Not good, combined with terrible service and staff. Avoid this place. As a Brit I'm ashamed of the lack of food consistency and quality.

Yelp
Loved the Fish and Chips! Great drinks and atmosphere. Good place to unwind on a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Great dinner. Friendly owners. Servers also. Recommend it. I saw it on Kitchen Nightmares.

Rey C.

Yelp
The small menu was great. I got the Shepards Pie and my fiancé got the fish and chips. Shepards pie was excellent and the fish and chips batter was fantastic. I highly recommend both! Service was friendly and happy to be there! The Decode was fun and I love the goose.

Yelp
Meh... I think what makes me not really enjoy this place is the ambiance. I'd like to see them try more. It's just an echoey, cold, and sterile environment. The food was okay... not amazing, but edible, while the menu was rather spartan. The service was fine; nothing to complain about there. It was a mediochre experience, all around. Not sure I'll rush to go back, if I ever return at all.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
The fish and chips were better than most supposed "English fish and chips" found in America. I was happy they had Strongbow cider. My only complaint was the Scotch egg. It was over fried to the point of being burned. Way too crunchy and I'm guessing microwaved before being served. The place felt close to a British pub. Had a small dart area in the back. Wished there had been English football or rugby playing on TVs. I would give it a 7 out of 10. I'll definitely visit again and recommend to my friends. I suggest adding more "British pub" regalia and signage inside.
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
I really like this place, the only thing that I have to say about it that's a negative experience.. it's smells pretty bad of fish. (Like poorly stored and bad) I understand that this place is a pub that sells fish.. but the fish aroma that takes over the entire place is pretty gross. The service has always been great there. But every time I go in there, it reminds me of fiesta the supermarket where it smacks you in the face with the fishy smell. Maybe it's the air ventilation and the fact that the building is pretty old. I still like going there and I have no intentions on stopping just won't frequent the place very often.

Yelp
Was desperate to try this place out because I had heard that it was a British pub/restaurant fare. The beer selection here is on point if you're looking for a good quality Irish/English beers. The food is straight up, traditional English with all of the staples, fish and chips, shepherds pie, and some good fried seafood. We were greeted at the door and had really wonderful service. Absolutely loved our waiter. The ambience of the restaurant was mellow yet was absolutely a dive bar atmosphere family friendly but not a whole Lotta kid items here if you're looking for something to get for the Kiddos. Overall for great spot for some great beer. My only complaint was everything is obviously deeply fried and there's no salad or lighter options if you're looking for something healthy. Their grumpy burger is freaking delicious but I'm frustrated that there's no onion lettuce or tomatoes to go with a burger just meat, cheese and bun. If you're into that this is your spot but if you like a little bit of green or something crisp to go with your burger this place will not be for you.

Yelp
Well, I had a GREAT time. My husband is always on the lookout for a good shepherd's pie and he enjoyed this immensely. The Reuben egg rolls are excellent and on sale during happy hour. The fish and chips are very well done, flaky and delicious. The service is excellent and the iced tea is fragrant, which is odd, but very delicious and refreshing. We will definitely go back for another round... especially if we're looking for drinks and appetizers.

Janet H.

Yelp
We decided to try this place out after seeing it on Kitchen Nightmares. It was our friends anniversary and since they were married in the UK and she is English what better place to celebrate. We ordered the Crispy Shrimp and Scotch Egg as apps. The Shrimp was delicious. The Scotch Egg was a bit over cooked, but it did not go to waste. We all ordered the Fish & Chips, I mean how can you not order Fish & Chips at a Pub. We all agreed it was the best we've found in the Austin area and the fish portion was more than enough. Nobody but myself liked Mushy Peas so I got extra, yummm. We did save room for Sticky Toffee Pudding. OMG I would go back just for that. The staff and owner were very welcoming and kept checking on us even though the place was packed. This inside transports you from central Texas to any pub in the UK. We drove an hour to get here and would go back in a New York minute.

Yelp
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Fish n chips are the best!! There is a large selection of beer on tap.

Yelp
The service was wonderful. It was a busy night but they still found 2 spaces at the bar for us. Genuine British pub food. I'll definitely be back!!!

Yelp
What a lovely little joint!! The atmosphere is super fun and pub like. The service was spot on and the server was very helpful with menu! The food was absolutely delicious! Not one thing we had was bad! We will absolutely be coming back!

Yelp
I raise an eyebrow to an establishment that calls itself a pub. So admittedly, I was a bit curious yet hesitant to try this place out. I walked in, was quickly greeting by a waitress saying to sit wherever i pleased. We sat at by the front window. The ambience was similar to that of a pub i would go to back home in Ireland. The fireplace on the TV was a cozy fun touch. Our waitress was wonderful and was quick to check in but not overbearing. Impeccable service. The food: I ordered the Grumpy Burger. It's a 1/2lb burger that i was pleasantly surprised by. It was delicious! To me, so far, it's the best burger in the square - hands down! It came with chips (fries) that I enjoyed with their garlic aioli by request and malt vinegar which is on the table. Amazing. The menu is accurate to that you would see in Ireland/Northern Ireland (i.e. bangers and mash, potato leek soup). It's nice to see an establishment bring me the comforts of home with accuracy. Hoping to see black and or white pudding on breakfast Menus if they aren't there already!

Yelp
A wonderful gem & reminder of my family back at home and home here in Georgetown. Ainsley, thank you for the thoughtful service. I love the music, ambiance, and come on!? The scotch egg... with the creamed cabbage & peas with smoke bacon to compliment... one-of-kind!

Yelp
Great British pub, love that this opened in Georgetown. We didn't have anything like it around here

Yelp
My husband and I are big fans of Kitchen Nightmares. We visited the restaurant this past Saturday and had an amazing experience! The service was excellent, especially considering how packed the place was, and we even got to enjoy some live music later in the evening. The food was delicious! We ordered the shrimp appetizer and the fish and chips for our main course. They were the best fish and chips we've ever had--and my husband has been to some of the top spots in the UK. We're planning to return this weekend to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. Looking forward to dining at The Grumpy George again soon!

Yelp
We decided to try grumpy george last night because we knew they were revamped by chef Ramsey. The location is nice. Small menu so limited choices. Our table ordered either the smash burger or the fish and chips. We waited over 45 minutes for food. When looking at the menu I chose smash burger because on the menu I didn't see any of my allergy issues on the list of items. Unfortunately I am allergic to oinions and had no idea their "burger sauce" was basically onions. They really should call is onion jam not burger sauce. The fries were good, but that is hard to mess up and our friends that got the fish and chips said they were good but not knock your socks off good. The staff looks flustered and stressed while the owners was talking to customers and drinking wine and cocktails. I was expecting better

Yelp
Started off with the mini sliders, they come 3 to the order, chose provolone as the cheese and those were yummy. Next up was an order of the fish and chips with mushy peas. The portion was underwhelming but the flavor was great. I'm not the biggest fan of peas in general, I didn't like them, but maybe my opinion on it should be taken with a grain of salt. The Harp and Electric Jellyfish on tap were refreshing! I'd come back and try more of the menu.

Yelp
Decent drinks. Great basic British cuisine. Spot on engaging service! Parking down street and good area to bounce around in with friends while waiting for a table.

Yelp
Shepherds pie Togo. Lots of oil. Took 15 min to get out. Very nice staff. Have had the fish and chips and that was very good.

Yelp
Stopped in after grabbing lunch in another city. Ordered an old fashioned and a Pimm's cup. Both drinks were good. The old fashioned was made with half of their normal amount of simple syrup. Good thing because any more it would have been out of balance and far too sweet. The Pimm's cup was very good. Tried the Pastrami cured wild salmon. It was an excellent starter plate. Bread tasted fresh. Well worth the price of admission. If you're in the Georgetown area it's worth the stop.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and impressed. Only one vegetarian option, rarebit toast, which was good served with a simple arugula salad. My husband's bangers and mash was good as was the creamed cabbage. Sweet roasted carrots were very nice too. The highlight was the sticky toffee pudding! Attractive decor and good service.

Yelp
We met a couple of friends, one of which was an England expat, at The Grumpy George. It had a good pub vibe but high ceilings and hard surfaces made for a loud environment. I looked over the beer menus, lots to choose from, and I picked a pint. Shortly after, I ordered "bangers & Mash. I went with the Cumberland sausage, creamy mashed potatoes and onion gravy with carrots. The beer took a little longer than it should have but I'm guessing they're still working out their game plan. The food was delivered shortly after. The food had an excellent flavor and went great with the beer. Looking around, it seemed to be an older crowd. The staff was friendly, and all but the time it took to bring the beers, had good service.
