Steaks, pies, oysters, and Guinness in a historic pub setting

"The Guinea Grill is an old-school Mayfair pub with a reputation for a well-poured Guinness. The regulars might look like they know their way around a country estate, but this boozer attracts all sorts: wannabe wheeler-dealers, curious tourists, and serious steak people. The front bar area can be heaving but the back dining room is all ‘sirs’ and ‘madames’, with waistcoated staff bringing ramekins of moreish cauliflower cheese. It’s classic British food done very well." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
"The oysters at The Guinea Grill get lonely without a Guinness sidekick. Behold, the kind of lie we tell ourselves to enable this dynamic duo. When you hit up this teeny tiny Mayfair pub for a half dozen rock oysters, a pint of the black stuff just makes sense. There’s a somewhat stuffy dining room out back with white tablecloths and—deep breath—portraits of roosters, but the bar is where you want to be for a gloriously simple oyster experience." - heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna
"The Guinea Grill is a crèche for signet rings and tourists wanting the ye olde London experience. Food is dished up silver service-style and the hearty dishes are old-school and comforting—like a prawn and crayfish cocktail, beef wellington, and sides of haggis and lamb kidneys. Just know that veganism hasn't reached The Guinea Grill yet. Low cholesterol and restraint are also foreign concepts. Come for special meals with plenty of charm, or take an out-of-towner who wants to be put in mind of Dickens and Downton." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"What To Get: Pie, either steak and mushroom, beef and oyster, or potato. They're all excellent. And apple crumble, which is basically pie. Time Capsule Factor: Signet rings outnumber iPhones at this British spot in Mayfair. The plaid carpets and portraits of people peeping out from frilly bonnets make it feel like Christmas at Sandringham (source material: The Crown). So do the waistcoat-wearing waiters dishing up prawn and crayfish cocktails with a ‘sir’ or ‘madame’." - jake missing, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
"The Guinea Grill is a crèche for signet rings and tourists in Mayfair. The plaid carpets bring to mind country estates and family crests, food is dished up silver service-style, and diners with flushed cheeks contemplate a post-pie nap in their cushioned chairs. Veganism hasn't reached this historic British spot yet. Low cholesterol and restraint are also foreign concepts. So come ready to take down an excellent 16oz sirloin steak from the restaurant's own meat fridge. It’s all criss-cross scorch marks, a glistening cap of fat, and juicy meat." - rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
