The Gunroom Restaurant

We had the 8pm session for the evening meal and it was lovely. Service from the beginning was attentive and the sitting room we started in was so plush and very beautifully appointed. Entrement was delicious and the canapés were probably the best thing we ate for flavour and creativity, absolutely delicious. After this, we were taken into a cosy dining area with maybe 5 others couples and served the velouté which was very good. The bread and charcoal sea salt was a wonderful touch. We had champagne, which was excellent, with our dinner but their wine list and suggested pairings were a great addition and there was a good range although there were limited whites ( the menu did favour reds in their defence). For starter, the ham hock was a little underwhelming, though tasty it needed something to balance the strength of flavour from the ham but the scallop was very very delicious, definitely a favourite. The main of Welsh beef was beautifully cooked but the short rib with mustard and pickle was the star. Unfortunately the triple cooked chips were wedges not chips so lacked chunkiness. New potatoes were amazing. Sorbets and pre- dessert were great. Desserts were good. Overall we had a wonderful meal and those serving were knowledgeable and friendly but some of the staff were quite new and this was reflected in their service level, but I imagine over time this would change. Definitely recommend for the price point, and hopefully they get that star they're aiming for.

An 80th Birthday meal for our wonderful Mum took some planning and research and we couldn’t have been any more happy with choosing The Gunroom at Plas Dinas Country House Hotel. Every single course was beyond expectation and feel for the exceptional food and service was worth every penny. Would highly recommend for a special occasion. Thank you.

Our evening at The Gun Room at Plas Dinas commenced with significant promise. Canapés and pre-dinner drinks served in the exquisite drawing room established a high expectation, which was further enhanced by the refined, attentive, and genuinely excellent service from the team throughout the night. The culinary stars were undoubtedly our main courses: a perfectly prepared John Dory, an excellent quality piece of fish, and the superb Welsh Beef, which was perfectly seared and exquisitely seasoned. Both dishes were truly delightful. However, the overall experience was slightly diminished by our seating arrangements. We found ourselves in a rather small dining room where tables were positioned a little too closely, meaning the lively chatter from nearby diners became a noticeable distraction. Compounding this, the room felt notably warm, particularly for a summer evening, creating a less than ideal comfort level. Despite these minor environmental considerations, we genuinely enjoyed the culinary aspects of our meal. Yet, we departed with the clear sense that, with a few adjustments to the dining space, the evening could have been truly exceptional.

Lovely place, very clean. Rupert and his team where lovely. You can tell Rupert loved his job and wants to make everyone feel at home and feel like someone special. If your going to go make sure you book a local cab driver (we went with stanway's he was lovely). If you want a fancy meal as a couple or with close friends you in for treat for an intimate meal.

I went there a couple of months ago and this place is truly amazing. Elegant white table cloth service with an excellent menu. Perfectly cooked classical dishes with little twists and a well balanced wine list make for a sophisticated yet unpretentious dining experience.

The perfect Afternoon Tea experience. Excellent food, service & atmosphere. Very accommodating to our group which had dietary restrictions such as dairy and gluten. The section of sandwiches, cakes & scones were fantastic! I was extremely impressed and I will definitely be going back. Highly recommend coming here for special occasions!

A fantastic restaurant with great service. The taster menu had great options with a good variety of dishes . Along with the canopes and a good wine list and coffee taken in the drawing room, a fantastic night was had.

The food was good but the service was very poor. We had to find waiters to help us. Inexperienced staff didn't know what the dishes were or even where to find a wine menu.
