The Gyro Project surpassed all my expectations for a fast casual joint! I came on a busy Thursday evening, and every table was packed. The line moves quickly and offerings are constantly being rotated by staff. My friends and I opted for the bowls and we loved every bite! The assembly line is similar to other fast casual joints like Sweetgreen or Cava, but the flavors are incredible. I got the salmon and was impressed by how tender and well-seasoned it was. The falafel was also a highlight and I was really glad to see vegetarian options. The bowl base comes with rice or purple cabbage slaw and lettuce. Then you go on to pick a protein, two sauces and two side dishes. The spicy feta and babaghanoush were perfect and I loved the cucumber tomato salad and stewed gigante broad beans! The meal was great but the unique highlights were the deconstructed baklava served with frozen Greek yogurt. I would come back for that alone! It was out of this world! Also loved the bougatsa custard dessert with cinnamon and phyllo. This place is a gem in NYC and will definitely be a popular lunch and dinner spot. The staff was warm and friendly despite the many people pouring in the whole night and the ambiance was really nice too. I wish these were all over the city—Upper West Side is truly blessed to have this as an option.

If I were them, I’d spin their ice cream/frozen yogurt out into its own, cute shop. This would do great in the east village lol. The frozen yogurt is actually delightful. For $5.95, it’s huge and comes with a good glug of olive oil. It’s perfect for people who want a slightly nutritious dessert. It left me feeling light and good, despite being big and tasting indulgent. Literally my dream dessert. Great gluten free dessert. They have a clean washroom too!! Ugh, lovely. They also have lattes and hummus and bowls and wraps and everything too. The vibes inside kind of give “chain” energy.

Don’t call it fast food—Gyro Project is something way beyond that. The food is unbelievable—gyros that are bursting with flavor and very, very authentic Greek taste. They are so busy! And still on top Every bite feels like it was made with care and tradition. But what truly makes this place stand out is the people. Stavros Manager, then Chris is incredible. He treats everyone like family—always moving around, helping the team, and making sure every customer feels at home. And let’s not forget the staff behind the counter. The guys who serves the food behind the window is super friendly and polite, always serving with a smile. The girl Stephanie who works in the mornings is just as kind—warm, welcoming, and respectful attention

Ordered a salad, a platter of pita bread with 4 different sauces, baklava with Nutella, and Chicken Gyro. The food was good, it is what you envision, salty, saucey, and meaty. The staffs were really nice and patient. I took off one star because the staff did not do what they listened. Ordered a pita with no onion, and he started to put onions on it, and I had to remind him. And the salad, I ordered with no olives, and there were olives inside. The experience is great, atmosphere is great. Fast causal. I would give them a second chance if I am in the area.

I really enjoyed my meal here! Fairly affordable, a bowl is about $14ish and you can add on more for extra $. The chicken was well cooked and I loved that they were large chunks. Their baked goods looked amazing and they also have frozen Greek yogurt which looks like it would be great on a hot day! I will definitely be back.

Google
The Gyro project is a solid 10/10! I had the Greek Club Sandwich and it was hands down the best club sandwich I’ve ever had in my 26 years of life. The portions in this place are huge! The staff was also super friendly. I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants but this spot is totally worth it.

Google
The best meal I’ve had in a long time. The ambiance is wonderful. Super friendly and helpful staff. The owner comes around to make sure you are enjoying your meal and treats you like family. They also play fun and upbeat music, but not too loud, you can still have a normal conversation during your meal. The presentation of the food is beautiful and the food is very fresh. I usually feel sluggish and get heartburn after every meal, but I ate an entire bowl, fries and a mini spinach pie, plus dessert…. and I felt amazing and energized. You can tell the quality of the food is impeccable and they don’t use any seed oils, only EVOO and avocado oil. Also the food is very reasonably priced for the quality and portion size you are getting. The chicken shawarma was seasoned to perfection and the beef & lamb gyro was juicy and flavorful. The OG fries (with feta) and TGP sauce were delicious and not greasy like most other fries. Definitely make sure to leave room for dessert. The deconstructed baklava Greek yogurt froyo was sweet and tangy and the lemon blueberry cookie and orange pie melts in your mouth. I couldn’t resist ordering half the menu and will definitely be back next time I’m in the city. I’m hoping they open a Brooklyn location soon so I can come back more often to try the rest of the menu

From the moment we walked in, Gyro Project delivered an exceptional experience. The food? Absolutely divine. We ordered the bowl with a side of French fries, and each bite was bursting with flavor—rich, savory, and wonderfully satisfying. You could taste the care in every ingredient. Stavros was phenomenal: friendly, efficient, and genuinely passionate about the dishes. He introduced each item with clarity and charm, making the whole experience feel welcoming and effortless. The service was quick, the line moved smoothly, and the cleanliness of the space—especially the tables—added to the fresh, upbeat vibe of the place. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and just the right balance of relaxed and lively. We left with full stomachs and big smiles. Without a doubt, I would wholeheartedly recommend Gyro Project to anyone craving authentic Greek flavors and outstanding service. A true gem!

Yelp
The staff was great and attentive! The food was super fresh and didn't take long on a Friday night during dinner hour.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood and really eager to try the Greek yogurt froyo. I ordered original which comes with olive oil and sea salt. SO good. I really love the dense texture of the froyo. The yogurt is tart but still decadent. The olive oil on top was a perfect balance. Love the evil eye branding! Can't wait to go back and try their hot food!

Yelp
My new favorite fast casual Mediterranean spot! I've been here a few times and they have the best food and staff by far! I don't feel rushed because the staff at this location are so nice no matter how busy it is! The ordering set up is similar to a Chipotle, and simpler than any of the other fast casual Mediterranean restaurants and chains. They don't try to provide all of the fix ins under the sun where it can get overwhelming or offer so many add ons that cost extra. When creating your own pita/bowl/salad, they provide a few options each of proteins, sauce, and sides that are all done really well. They have the usual shaved gyro meat, big chunks of grilled chicken or pork, and chicken shawarma. They're some of the best lemon potatoes I've had in the city. And they have unique and well dressed/spiced sides like their Greek Slaw and Israeli Salad. They also have frozen yogurt and a pretty nice selection of savory and sweet pastries.

Yelp
My husband and I stumbled upon Gyro Project and we're so glad we did! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We had a gyro, a salad bowl, and shared the deconstructed baklava ice cream and a brownie for dessert -- and wow, it was all so good. Special shoutout to Travon, who was incredibly nice and welcoming. He made our experience even better with his kind and attentive service. Also don't skip the Greek yogurt! It's creamy, tangy, and a perfect finish to the meal. Easily a five-star spot we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
The Gyro Project in New York, NY. "Opa your mouth"....now on the Upper West Side! Now with their third location they are serving fresh, fast causal Greek Food. This is not your typical fast service place in NYC-The Gyro Project has fresh and healthy ingredients that will fulfill your Greek Food craving. I absolutely loved the gyro and the gyro Greek salad was mixed PERFECTLY! Love this spot! Love the decor! Chicken Gyro Beef & Lamb Gyro Beef & Lamb Gyro Greek Salad Greek Croquettes-Crispy cheese puffs stuffed with kefalotiri cheese and drizzled with Mike's Hot Honey. Spanakopita Spring Rolls- Crispy spinach & cheese spring rolls, served with tzatziki.

Yelp
Thank you Gyro Project, Hailey P., and Yelp for this Yelp Elite event. I took the 1 train to 72nd street and it brings me to Gyro Project. The place opens at 11 AM. The staffs were friendly and I was able to order from the menu. Some picked gyro, some picked the bowl. You can add fries to it and choose your meat. You tell the cashier that you're with Yelp Elite and they will search your name. This comes with a complementary drink. Remember to tip small businesses! Food was delicious! Utentils are on the side. Would recommend coming here! Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambience: 5/5

Yelp
A beloved but mid corner baker has a new life. Gyro project is fantastic! The serve gyro & schwarma sandwiches & bowls plus incredible fro-yo. While it doesn't have the fish like Grk from Greece or the niche Pi bakery goods, it's fresh and delicious. Ate: veg bowl with falafel OG Greek yogurt with sour cherries Total:$22 I tasted the chicken gyro cause how could I not. Yummy bowl, I could eat this over and over again. The fro-yo was tart and silky goodness- wow!!!

Yelp
Yum. $10 with the $5 off for your first visit? A huge bowl of feel-good food. Loved the gyro. So much meat. Loved the dolmas. Wow. Lights out. The tzatziki was terrific. I was so hungry and this hit. Speedy service. Nice space. I love the evil eye.

Yelp
I'm very happy that Gyro Project is quite busy despite only having been open for business in 2 weeks! The staff are all welcoming and warm! I observed that they all get along and happy to be where they are! You can choose from a bowl, a pita or an entree. They also guide you through the stations if you've not been before. The portions are stupendous and absolutely filling! They can easily be anyone's go to spot while in the city. Items can easily be ordered from the kiosk too or their app. There is an abundant amount of seating for their dining customers. Most people took things to go and it was relatively quiet. Congrats!

Yelp
extremely flavorful and filling bowl! Came at around 1pm on a Friday and there were quite a few people. Restaurant is very bright and has a lot of table space to eat indoors. Ordering works like any other bowl/gyro joint, similar to chipotle/cava. I got a chicken shawarma bowl, which was covered in a tangy marinade. chicken was very tender, and I was given a pretty decent-sized portion! I also got one falafel, which had a nice spice to it. the rice was borderline mushy, unfortunately, but the pita crisps countered this pretty well. Workers were very nice and efficient! the assembly line works pretty well. They have a lot of different pastries displayed on the rack, but they were a bit pricy. Apparently they have really good froyo, which I would love to try!

Yelp
It was packed here. Unfortunately the food wasn't up to par with how busy it was. I liked that the meat was fresh as you could see how they slice off the pieces in the back but the beef and lamb gyro tasted so dry and even a little hard. The pita was hard too. I had such high hopes. For the two sides I got fries and the lemon potatoes. Those were honestly the best things I got. The rice tasted like white rice but I know it's not. It wasn't very fresh either. Everything but the potatoes tasted like it's been out for a while. The service wasn't good either. I know they were busy but I think I had a manager helping me. He just proceeded to ask me what beef I want and proceed to not ask me what veggies, what sides and then he just leaves to the cash register while I'm still waiting for the rest of my order to be taken. I was confused. Another worker had to ask me if I'm done and I told him no, the guy helping me just left without a word. With all that said, I wouldn't get again. I'd rather get similar food from a halal cart

Yelp
4.0 / 5.0 The Gyro Project is the first restaurant in Manhattan to open. I went there around 2pm on a weekday and it was packed with customers. There was a constant stream of people ordering takeout. The bowl I ordered required a choice of one main meat, two vegetables, and two sauces. The waiter was very clear about my English, even though I don't speak it well, and showed me each one. The rich sauce and fresh vegetables whet my appetite, and it was very delicious. However, although I was supposed to be able to choose two sauces, I was only given one, which was a bit disappointing since I was looking forward to it. The restaurant has eight two-seat tables and a barrier-free entrance. What I ordered was: ・bowl Romaine Chicken Gyro Lemon Potatoes Pickled Onions TGP Sauce

Yelp
Oh wow. Wow wow wow. Thank you for coming into our neighborhood! The gyro project is going to do very well. The inside was meticulous and was transformed from Cafe Metro. Nice tables and excellent lighting. Food is incredibly well thought out between a bowl or actual gyro the choices are never ending. Staff all made eye contact and were incredibly friendly. There were so many choices and the staff walks you through the building of your item. I had the chicken with tatziki, spicy feta, rice, salad, potatoes and slices of pita. Being a Greek food snob I would say the Gyro project is here to stay! Next visit, the desserts!! All looked amazing. We will absolutely be returning.

Yelp
Wonderful gyros! Stopped in after the Peurto Rican parade and what a treat. The taziki sauce is so fresh and flavorful. The staff is wonderful, service with a smile. The establishment was clean and tidy. The deconstructed baclava was sweet. Got Greek frozen yogurt with it as vanilla would have been too sweet. Enjoy!

Yelp
Thank you, Gyro Project, for such a warm welcome and for maintaining such a spotless, inviting space. I thoroughly enjoyed the beef and lamb gyro pita sandwich, and my guest did too! The pita was perfectly warm and lightly toasted, with just the right hint of seasoning. Both the tzatziki and spicy feta sauces complemented the meat beautifully--flavorful without overpowering the dish. The portion was generous enough to satisfy our appetites, yet light enough to keep us energized for the rest of the day. Since it was a gorgeous Saturday, we decided to take our lunch to the grassy area at Lincoln Center--one of my favorite things about Gyro Project's location. It's so easy and convenient to grab a delicious meal and enjoy it outdoors. I genuinely believe this spot has a bright future ahead. Thank you again, and congratulations on creating such a fantastic dining experience!

Yelp
A new spot in the UWS serving some gyro. Lots of options (including sides/snacks) which all looked yummy! I only got the gyro/lamb bowl which i was surprised didn't match my expectations. Good portions, and filling. I could see the meats were freshly sliced but it didn't end up as juicy or warm as I expected. Overall, nice and friendly people but I'm not sure if I would come back. Though the desserts look super tempting... might have had a weird experience.

Yelp
I got the bowl with falafel, pickles, dolmas and the Greek cabbage & rice. First of all, the meal preparers are so attentive and listen to what you are saying. When I asked for harissa, they asked me "do you want it on the falafel or just on the rice?". Finally, someone asked for my preference on that ;) Each component was well done - falafel crispy, cabbage slaw vinegary, dolmas had great dill flavor, pickles were just perfect, and the harissa sauce is excellent btw. The bowl was very filling and a great value for money. Also the seating here looked great - peaceful and abundant. The service was so friendly and place is clean and well run. I'm definitely visiting again.

Yelp
I haven't had a gyro for many years. I was a bit confused on how to order even with the menu. I had a beef and lamb gyro with only like 2/3 fillings then he added fries in. I would have preferred to have fries on the side. The meat was too salty for me although tasty. Next time, I'd to try one of the variety of soft serves/ ice cream.
google avatar

Sarah Y.

Yelp
Solid fast casual spot! I split a chicken platter with friend and it was perfect! The serving size is a little big for just one person. The wait time was super short and it was really easy to order! The food was a little a salty overall but otherwise good.

Yelp
The Gyro Project was introduced to me when I attended a Yelp Event. Here's the plus side: Clean new atmosphere with plenty of seating. Friendly, efficient, helpful employees. Delicious and fresh food. Consideration for allergies and choice selection. (Somewhat) Down side was the price which luckily I didn't have to spend! Considering I asked him to put back the huge amount of beef lamb he put in my bowl the menu only allows TWO veggies. Come on, Greek Olives are great on my salad. Second I learned my lesson and I will not be getting sauce on my food. The tzatziki was delicious but my sensitive stomach can't handle it. I was ill all night popping TUMS. He did give me a third veggie because I only had one sauce instead of the two allowed in the bowl. I'm giving The Gyro Project Four Stars. If I return I'd definitely want to make my own choices for my bowl and not pay the full price for things I don't want in my salad. I don't need huge quantities of meat because I typically don't like to eat meat except Bacon!!
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
Considering it's a chain I really enjoyed the food. It's very fresh and I definitely like this one the most. Would recommend

Yelp
A new build your own option is in the neighborhood, and I was curious to how the gyro project compared to its likes. The inside is large and clean, you can order at the counter or on an iPad up front. In addition to building a bowl or pita, there are a couple of other entrees on the menu. The situation with the toppings/sauces was disappointing as it was far too stingy -- the strict two topping max immediately makes this spot's bowls inferior to its counterparts (cava, hummus & pita, etc.). the two sauce limit was also a bit annoying because I had gotten the cucumber and tomato salad and apparently that "counted" as a sauce? so I only got to try to baba ganoush and not the hummus as I had been eyeing. I should have asked if I could just pay extra for the addl sauce, but I was just trying to keep things pushing at that point. apparently even a drizzle of hot sauce counts as one of your dips. As for individual ingredients that I tried - rice is fresh, salmon is tender, beets are bland, cucumber salad was refreshing and baba ganoush was flavorful. There was an extensive dessert counter that I didn't try today, but a lot of people were getting the soft serve Greek yogurt. I'd come back often IF they adjusted the limits on toppings/sauces, the price point here is higher than similar places so I feel like the variety should be adjusted as well.

Yelp
What a great addition to the neighborhood, in a perfect spot too. We need some more of this! Served in a compostable container, they gave a great portion of everything and I was surprised about how much I got. In my bowl was rice, lettuce, chicken shawarma, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, French fries, AND stuffed grape leaves? Take my money! I could eat here every night. They had some seating inside which was full but it was a nice brisk night so I stood at one of their outdoor tables. The server behind the counter was really nice too.
google avatar

Yelp
OMG so good. Very similar to cava, naya, etc... but probably the best of these bowls that I've had. I got a bowl with rice, chicken, lettuce, pickled onions, feta, tomato, cucumber, hummus and tzatziki and omg it was so good. Ingredients are fresh and the chicken is so flavorful. Service was quick and everyone was so friendly. Will absolutely be coming back i seriously loved this.

Yelp
What a terrific addition to the UWS! Usually, these chain rice-bowl places like CAVA, Chipotle, etc. are just okay these days and all taste the same. But, Gyro Project is special. Firstly, this is WAY better than CAVA or similar places. It's more synonymous with NAYA, but I'd give this the slight edge. Could be recency bias, but it really was that good. The place itself has plenty of seating and is located in a great spot right on the corner. The staff was friendly and excited to help new customers like myself. I had a custom bowl - gyro, half rice half slaw, gigante beans, cucumbers, hummus and tzatziki. The food was a 10/10, truly no qualms whatsoever. For a total of $16, it was plentiful and delicious. Docked a star for capping the toppings at 1. That means that the small fixings all cost extra, things like: feta, cucumber, tomatoes, pita crisps. Just seems like a lose-lose. Customer feels restricted and the business surely loses money on this aspect. Will be back though!!!
google avatar

Yelp
A very solid fast option! Easy to get something that is both flavorful and quick. I enjoyed the meat that I got and the sauces were also perfect for the bowl

Yelp
Hats ON to my new best friend Stavros from thegyroproject and their new Upper West Side location in NYC. This place is amazing, and Stavros was so welcoming and service oriented. And, the food was absolutely fabulous!

Yelp
This spot, open 15 days, was hopping, and everyone on both sides of the aisle seemed to be enjoying the evening. The staff moved the bowl along patiently answering my questions. I started with what I know and love: hummus and babaganoush, and both are delicious! Smooth and tasty, Stavros (manager) told me they are made by hand in the shop. The chicken shawarma had a lovely seasoning and while "dry", each bite was filled with flavor. I don't think the rice does much to enhance the bowl, but the chopped romaine lettuce provides a light, refreshing layer of taste. I highly recommend the pickled cabbage as a foundation for the meal. Lastly, don't pass on the Greek frozen yogurt. The sour taste refreshes the palate and leaves your mouth with a sweet aftertaste. My review is compliments of a Yelp event, yet I'll be back on my own.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
I got a vegetarian bowl and I'm so happy they had that option. I got rice, fries, potatoes, and pita. All were great. I asked for hummus and tahini on the side. I got hummus and tzatziki instead. I didn't notice until I got all the way home which is 70 blocks away. So I was sad about that since I'm allergic to tzatziki. Please please please update the vegetarian bowl options to include a piece or two of halloumi. I got a side of it and added it to my bowl and it was amazing! I would schlep all the way uptown just for that. My mom got the cheese pie and didn't like it. The staff were nice.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
I had such a wonderful time at Gyro project! I got a chicken gyro with a sprite. The gyro comes spread with tzatziki, onions, fries, tomatoes, and your choice of protein. The pita was also perfectly toasted and crispy, just how I like it. It was delicious for a fast casual food option. I also noticed how welcoming all the employees are. They seem genuinely ready to take care of you, don't get annoyed if you're being slow or asking questions, and are gracious.

Yelp
This placed just opened up in the neighborhood and I've been wanting to try it because it smells good every time I walk by. Now that I've tried it, I'm very glad it opened nearby. I got the bowl with chicken shawarma. Everything from the protein to the sides was delicious. The people were also very friendly. I didn't know what I wanted at first but the staff was kind enough to explain what everything was. It's a nice casual place to grab some lunch to eat there or to take out. I'll definitely be back to try other items.

Yelp
Overall: I went here for lunch on a Monday. Service was quick and friendly. Food was decent but nothing blew me away. I'd go back for a quick lunch. Food: 3 Drinks: 2 Service: 4 Value: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Food: I got the beef and lamb gyro. I did get some fresh pita, but everything else looked like it had been sitting in the warming trays for a while. I thought mine could have used a little bit more meat. It tasted pretty good for what it was. Drinks: My meal came with a can of soda. There weren't a ton of options. Service: The staff was fast and friendly. The whole process was very quick. Value: My meal came out to $17, maybe slightly more than I would expect for some takeout lunch. Atmosphere: There were a few small tables inside, but this is primarily a takeout place. Its in close proximity to Central Park though, so I had a nice meal there.

Joanne N.

Yelp
I've gotten takeout twice and the food was really good but I just placed an order online. My credit card was charged. I got a confirmation. And then immediately I got another text saying they canceled my order and it would take three days to refund my credit card. No one is answering the phone. This is really strange.

Yelp
Bright lighting, white colored walls and contemporary decor welcome you into this fast casual Greek spot. Place was busy and staff seemed mildly confused and overwhelmed which reflected in the customer's confusion as to where to order, how to order, etc. I will cut them some slack as we did visit within the first two weeks of opening so I am sure as the staff becomes more accustomed to their positions and the restaurant as a whole, things will improve. The manager/owner seemed very passionate and happy to make people happy which is always great to see. I got the TGP platter and my fellow diners got the Greek salad, gyro, Halloumi fries, dip sampler and Greek Croquettes. We also tried the froyo for dessert. The croquettes and halloumi fries were awesome. The rest of the food including the dessert was good but slightly underwhelming. Chicken was pretty dry and the dip sampler left a lot to be desired. If you dropped this place in the middle of Kansas, I would say I'd be back, but with the plethora of great options in NYC, I just could not myself coming back.

Sharon J.

Yelp
After 2 visits, I am still sorting out the menu. But I was very happy yesterday to see Chicken Kebobs as an option. And whole wheat pita. Next time, I'll try the Kebobs on a platter or bowl. Healthy and delish.

Yelp
I could easily take out from here every day. the bowls, wraps are all delicious and the food fresh The staff is kind, quick, and generous with the portions.

Yelp
Food was delicious. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. Place is very clean. Will come again Christine.

Yelp
The Gyros are incredibly delicious and so are the desserts and frozen Greek yogurt with olive oil and cherries. Must try the Bougatsa. The owner, Chris is warm and personable and feels like family. I will be a loyal customer and we're lucky to have on UWS
