The Halal Guys Opens in Midtown Atlanta in September | Eater Atlanta

"Opened on Buford Highway in January 2017, this Atlanta location still regularly draws long lines, and its popularity is what Chowdhury hopes to reproduce with his Midtown and Duluth openings; the chain itself began as a Manhattan food cart in 1990 and is widely known for the chicken and gyro platter served over rice, with food prepared in accordance with Islamic law." - Beth McKibben

This salad is absolutely delicious and it’s so hearty and flavorful! Even the dressing is good! My coworker and I have to have this salad at least 3 - 4 times a week for lunch. It’s that good! Don’t sleep on this place!

Google
Apurbo and Saif were the best customer service i had in a long time. Thank you so much for making my husbands first time special. Give these guys a raise. The are really great at Halal guys.

Eboni B.

Google
I haven’t had a Halal food since I last visited New York! This is the best Halal food spot in Atlanta when it comes authenticity! The food is absolutely amazing, the restaurant is clean, and the staff MST and Safa were incredible! They make you feel welcome and like Family!

Google
I’ve been trying to make it to this place for a while now but finally made it. So the white sauce is the star of the show, so whatever you order, DONT FORGET to add the white sauce. No such thing as too much, it’s that good. lol. The staff was friendly (regardless of previous reviews), didn’t feel rushed while I decided what I wanted and everything is made fresh. It was slower time of day when I went so there was no line. If you think you’re going to go crazy with the hot sauce think again, it is HOT and I enjoy spicy food. I’m not exaggerating, you definitely want it get it on the side and add to your food at your discretion.

Apurbo gave me great customer service! Always great food at Halal Guys! 🤟🏾🙏🏾🫡✊🏾

We were traveling and stopped by Halal Guys in Fort Mills, SC. We order a veggie plate w/falafel and a chicken plate. Their food is a must try, if you're ever near one of their many franchises. The food was so fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain the origin of their food. We hope a franchise will be coming closer to the Savannah area soon. Love your food!

Google
The food is really good, natural and fresh, I love the service, they were really sweet and explain everything because it was my first time, the price it’s a little high but it’s worthy

Google
Apurbo and Saif were great, me and my wifey went for the first time and Apurbo professionally walked me through the options they had and helped me and my miss create an excellent platter! I’d eat Halal guys everyday!

Yelp
Food was good. But a simple menu turned into a complicated order. Surprises at every turn. The menu at first glance seems simple. Choice of sandwich or platter. Select a protein. Select the finishings. Well, the subcategories will getcha. Hummus is extra, and so are olives. Not really sure who has the monopoly on olives and hummus, but sheesh. I went out on a limb and ordered the hummus. NO REGRETS. It was amazing. The veggies are typical. But then the sauces. They have a white sauce, I asked what it was and the answer was white sauce. So I can't help anyone who wants to know any deeper. They also have barbecue and mustard. I ordered the wings. I wasn't a fan. Because they were frozen. That's all I'll say towards that. I ordered the honey chipotle to go with the wings. Sauce was slammin' Next time I'll try the platter. All in all not bad.

Yelp
This brand catered lunch at work one day, so I thought to try directly from the establishment. Ordering the beef bowl, I was certain that I'd not leave hungry. And sure enough, had a doggie bag to go. That said, my appetite is fairly easily satisfied. Someone with a regular - lol - the servings should suffice for one serving. As far as the flavor, it was consistent from the catered lunch, the beef being a little dry. And the white sauce, though helpful, didn't *shine*. If I were to equate this with mall food, I don't think I'd be that far off, save for it being a standalone location. Thus, my search will continue... recommendations welcome!

Yelp
Halal Guys is a late-night gem! Their chicken, gyros, and falafel platters are a great options, satisfying cravings even in the wee hours. The fact that they're open until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays is a game-changer. I like to order a platter. It comes with your choice of protein, rice, lettuce tomatoes and then you can add onion, green peppers, jalapeños, white sauce and hot sauce. Each bite is a burst of flavor, making it the perfect spot for a tasty, late-night feast. Try the hot sauce with caution! A must-try for those looking for a delicious and convenient dining option during late hours! It's a better option than McDonalds and Taco Bell when you're still hungry but don't want fast food.

Yelp
Soooo I really wanted some New York style street Mediterranean food and I search and search and my goodness I found this spot! I wasn't too sure at first since they don't have lamb but I'm so glad I went! It was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Very good portions and the good as soooooo good! I didn't take pictures, it was my first bite of the day and I was ready lol. Will back very soon! Easy parking. They don't have outdoor seating but the inside has plenty of seating in the inside. The service was great, it's line service like Chipotle. Definitely go!

Yelp
Visited other locations, this one has to be hands down the dirtiest location. The area in front of the store smells like trash. The staff just seemed bothered. Placed my order and watched the employee continue what they were doing refilling the onions and such. Literally no one else in the store. Meaning I should be the priority, take care of the customer. Then applying my coupon from the app was also a problem. Let's chalk it up to a language barrier. But that again did not help the situation. Overall it was a little frustrating and not worth the trip.

Yelp
Food is like the ones you find in the streets of NY. Service is nice since they serve hefty scoops. Ambiance is alright, they were playing pop music and we were the only one eating there.
google avatar

Yelp
This used to be in my rotation but after my last visit i dont think so and i have going to them since only food carts in NYC on the cabbie side. Their quality has slid since they opened

Yelp
The ppl there are super nice, but the food is absolutely horrible. My son and I order 2 beef gyro and chicken platter.... So terrible that we could not eat any of it and threw the food away.

Yelp
Don't forget to use the 10% off for the Yelp check in deal! The rating for this place declined gradually as the newness and early reviews have settled. The hubs and I went on this snowy day in Georgia and were the only dine-in customers (yay!). Most either did the to-go option or delivery. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality. The portion size of the hubs' spicy chicken platter was pretty generous. My beef gyro sandwich was pretty plain Jane in size and appearance. The quality of the beef gyro was on point. The pita wrap was really fluffy and warm. The beef was a semi-thick cut that was flavorful and moist. Though the filling only had lettuce, tomatoes, and the white sauce (generously added), it tasted superb. The hubs' pick of the spicy chicken platter in a regular came with more than expected quantities. I really liked their rice as it had a nice color pop and was tasty. The spicy chicken wasn't that spicy, but in conjunction with the red spicy sauce, there's a slight kick in flavor. He added green peppers and olives in addition to the existing side of lettuce and pita bread. BTW, the regular will def fill you up.

River T.

Yelp
Great service From SaiFullah, and Mst. Food was great and clean environment. 10/10 experience

Yelp
This place has good and quick food if you're in the mood for it. All the food that I've tasted has been pretty good. I have tried the chicken and the chicken shawarma, and they were really good. I tried the beef, it was okay. It could have used a little bit of flavor but it was still very good and tender. They load you up with all the toppings. It's basically falling out of the rap, which is good. I suggest getting a fork because you're going to have to pick the rest up after it falls out of the wrap! It can't get a little bit messy but that's just the cost of doing business! Everybody seems to greet you when you walk in the door and everybody's very polite and friendly.

Chirag P.

Yelp
Well, atleast the white sauce and red are consistent... Service and quality of food do not compare to the New York stands....

Yelp
We came here to eat dinner last week on Tuesday night at about 7:40 pm. The Halal Guys is on the corner at the intersection of Buford Hwy and Chamblee Tucker Rd in Chamblee. The free parking lot provides ample spaces for customers. The menu is pretty simple and straightforward; entrees are sold as platters (bowls in small or regular sizes) or sandwiches (one size). Platters come with rice, lettuce, tomato and pita. Sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato and pita. Entree protein choices include beef gyro, chicken, beef and chicken combo or falafel. Choice of veggie toppings include green peppers, onions, jalapeños and olives. Sauce choices include white, hot and tahini. Optional sides include hummus, fries, pita chips, falafel and baba ghanoush. Optional desserts include cookies, baklava and baklava cheesecake. Optional beverages include bottled or fountain drinks. We walked in, and about 6 customers were eating at various tables, taking up about half of the tables. Tall stools provide additional seating at an L-shaped counter that also doubles as a barrier between the queue and the dining area. While the employees were scooping up food for a couple ahead of us, we made our decisions from the menu. The employees created our platters as we told them what ingredients we wanted. We both got the beef and chicken combo as a platter (which really is in a bowl format), with the rice, lettuce, tomato, pita and white sauce (mayo?). I added olives to my platter, and R added jalapeños. R checked in on Yelp, and there was a 10% off discount offered, so he showed the employee, who just disregarded it. R looked at his receipt after he paid and the discount wasn't applied. After talking to the manager, the manager resolved this by giving me a free fountain drink, and writing out and signing a piece of paper that he gave to R stating that we could get 10% off the next time we each made purchases. Although the beef was good, I really liked the flavor of the grilled chicken, so I highly suggest ordering the chicken in a platter. The regular size is a pretty good portion of food, so, if you're piggies like us, or if want leftovers, get the regular size platter. Btw, we ate everything because we were extremely hungry, plus everything was delicious together. The grilled chicken and the marinated olives were the highlight for me, and the next time I will have them put some of the hot sauce on it, since I like food with a kick in it.

Yelp
It was late on a Saturday and I was tired of the same old places. Growing up in NY I've eaten at the original carts on 6th ave a million times. The food here was very good. What was impressive is they were still making fresh batches of food at 11:30p.m. They are open until 1am on Friday and Saturdays. You aren't being served stuff that was cooked earlier and just sitting in the hot bins for hours. But beyond the how good the food was the lady that helped me. She was extremely kind and was smiling and the whole time. Her attitude made really brightened my night.

Yelp
Left work hungry and they were open, Yay! Trying this location for the 1st time at they rocked when it came to operation time and their service is awesome! Now to try the food which I have to say, is awesome too.

Yelp
I judge a halal spot by their falafel. We placed an order for 4 and, needless to say, this spot was definitely underwhelming. The falafel was either overcooked or old (or both). In addition, the tahini sauce, no lie, tasted like tobacco. My wife had one and couldn't stand them. I ordered the beef gyro (sandwich) with tomato, lettuce, onion, tahini, and 2 lines of hot sauce. It was just alright. I felt that the beef had been sitting for awhile. The 2 lines of hot sauce was perfect. Since it was my first time eating there, the lady recommended that I do not put more than 2 lines on the gyro. Thankfully I took that recommendation because it is spicy. I found that it added a nice flavor, but caution if you do not like spicy food! The gyro is priced correctly for the size. My wife ordered the combo platter and was not impressed. She mentioned that she could not tell the difference in taste between the different meats. I will say that you absolutely get more food in the platter than ordering a gyro. Inside dining was clean, but it is definitely a fast food halal joint. Think of Taco Bell for Halal food. Everyone was abiding by the mandatory mask rule inside, however, I did not see spacing between the tables for distancing. One of the men/women restrooms was closed (no clue why). The staff was not very friendly in addition. No greeting on the way in or the way out. We went around 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night. There was only one person dining in when we arrived. As we sat down, three more people came in. Their wait time was way too long, as only one person was making the platters/sandwiches while another was frying the sides/checking out. Overall, I will not be back. Too many good halal spots in Atlanta to enjoy.

Yelp
After getting my haircut in the city, I decided to head up Buford Hwy and try a restaurant I always pass, Halal Guys. Upon entry, the restaurant seems quite trendy, and clean. There was a foul odor of meat or chicken that I immediately smelled. It definitely was something that's related to protein. Nonetheless I wanted to enjoy my meal on the spacious balcony outside, so I began my order. I ordered a combo plate with chicken/beef, rice, salad, and a side order of Falafels. The staff was extremely kind! Fast, smiles, and even asked how my food was after I ate and exited the store. The food was tasty, but not enough to make me come back. It was very blah. Literally Chipotle style for a mideast cuisine. Generally, when I have food from this region of the world, It's very tasty and fresh. The food didn't taste as fresh as it could be and the flavors are lacking. The Falafel wasn't fresh at all. It honestly was a waste of $2. Now that I've tried the place I can check it off my list, but there's nothing special that would make me return.

Yelp
I heard a lot about this place from Adam Saleh. I had a platter with chicken and lamb, lettuce, tomatoes and white sauce only. They both tasted pretty good and everyone was pretty friendly. It was good but not sensational to where I'm craving it and want to go back so bad.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
Yesterday I was craving halal cart food so bad that I considered making the twelve hour drive . Am I compulsive, possibly ‍. Anyway, I found this place instead and I'm satisfied....... For now . Honestly it was great! I love that I can get full and STILL have sooooo much food left over to eat for later. My pan is actually in the oven right now. The service was great! I love, love, looooove when a place has great customer service. All smiles from everyone and delicious food to top it off. I also tried the baklava for the first time. It tastes like honey bread or a Krispy Kreme donut. There's also plenty of seating if you'd like to dine inside or even outside. Overall, this place is wonderful and it curved my craving for New York and Halal Carts. I still want to make that drive, but I can manage the wait now . I had the chicken and beef platter and I also tried the new savory beef platter. They were BOTH so dang good. So many wonderful flavors having a party on my taste buds. I'll be coming back real soon.

Yelp
Ordered falafel Was pre made and dropped to the oil terrible rice was tasteless My friend order tasteless chicken Humus was extra charge and olive and jalapeño are also extra. The salad is chopped lettuce - you can find in the bottom of a rabbit cage. I would definitely Recommend to not to go there I would mark one star but falling star
google avatar

Yelp
The white sauce is what makes this place tasty. My eyes widened as the guy drowned my plate with the stuff. The meat quality could've been subpar but I wouldn't of noticed because that white sauce is magical. The sauce alone probably has more calories than a Big Mac. I like spicy so I should've asked for more red sauce. $9 for a gyro is kind of pricey. My wife's beef gyro was larger than what I remember from my local Mediterranean Grill but the white sauce oozed out of both sides and made it a little bit too messy. $13 for the specialty large spicy chicken platter with jalapenos, green peppers, and olives. This was a decent deal because I couldn't finish it in one sitting. The chicken wasn't that spicy but the red sauce kicked it up a notch. I think next time I'll go with gyro meat and save a dollar. Would I come here again? Yes. I like fast casual places with small menus.
google avatar

Mohamad M.

Yelp
It's a hit or miss often. I don't know if their chicken is just bland now compared to other cart style places but there's better options for halal cart style food. Their white sauce and spicy sauce is their redeemer. I got fries last time and the seasoning wasn't even, fries were undercooked. Meh
google avatar

Yelp
Simple, Fresh and Consistent -- Halal Guys is our spot at least once a week! This location is off Buford Highway and there is a small lot so parking is never an issue. If there's a line, it will move fast. I have never had to wait at this location. They have wrap options but I always go for the gyro and chicken bowl. You can choose from a regular or small bowl, but the regular bowl (around $12) can easily last you 2 meals and the price difference is only 2 dollars. The meat is delicious and it tastes sooo good with turmeric rice and the veggies. Seriously never feel "bad" or too bloated from eating this food, its very fresh. The white sauce is a MUST and they will add as much as you want--even if its a ridiculous amount! Be weary of the red sauce, ask for a sample if you aren't sure because it is the best hot sauce ever but SO SPICY. I add 1 to 2 lines of it to my meal AT MOST. The employees are super friendly and the service is fast, Halal Guys Chamblee is one of my favourite food spots in the area!

Nathaniel C.

Yelp
Food was solid nothing outstanding but I enjoyed it. Ordered a Chicken Gyro. Service was pretty good aside from their poor english . Nice little place though
google avatar

Greer W.

Yelp
Ridiculously over priced for the service and quality of food. Everything taste like it was cooked in old oil/ it was burnt. I have never been to a place where they make you pay extra for basically EVERYTHING. You can get lettuce and tomatoes for free, but you want sauce $$ you want olives $$. I don't get how they are still in business with so many better local and friendly authentic and delicious Greek and Mediterranean places within less then miles of this place.
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
We order from here regularly for delivery. It's easy and straightforward, although really really salty. We always get the gyro platters, sometimes with beef, other times with chicken or both. I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with the white sauce, it seems pretty basic to me. We also enjoy the crinkle cut fries, although they don't always hold up by the time it's delivered. This location is on par with ones I've been to in other cities.

Yelp
REVIEW FROM 12.22.19 I dined at The Halal Guys for lunch last year so my review is from pre-covid times. That being said, the food was delicious and I'm confident if you choose to order takeout or delivery you won't be disappointed. I had the gyro platter which was a really nice sized portion. The meat was very juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed all the sauces as well but be careful of the red sauce as it's pretty spicy! I'd recommend balancing it out with the white sauce. Even though you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you, the staff still stopped by while we were dining to ask if we needed anything else. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly! I'd definitely stop back by The Halal Guys for lunch again!

Yelp
I've driven past this place so many times down in Chamblee as well as passed by so many of their carts when I went to NY, so I was super excited to come try it out finally when they opened in Atlanta. The menu is super simple which I appreciate- sandwich or platter, chicken or gyro are basically the only choices you need to make here. Overall it reminds me of a chipotle in a way because you get rice, lettuce, tomatoes, meat, onions, peppers, and their famous white sauce. I got the small platter and that portion was more than enough for me for lunch! The workers are super efficient here and the seating area is clean. Unfortunately, the food even with a bunch of white sauce tasted a little bland to me but the gyro itself did have a lot of flavor.
google avatar

Kunt B.

Yelp
Once again skimping on the portions. Barely a scoop of protein. Take your money else where , for the $15 they charge you can eat very well else where on that street. the original location in NY, they always gave full portions for cheap.

Mike R.

Yelp
First time at Halal Guys today and was charged more than $27 for one falafel sandwich that had 3 falafel pieces on it and a smearing of hummus, 1 order fries, and one fountain soda. Fries were under-seasoned, but the sandwich was ok. Seems pricey for a street food. I ate at the location. I noticed a worker using the fire suppression system pipes over the fry warmer to hang tongs. Restaurant was clean. Bathroom was unisex and clean.
google avatar

Rosalyn L.

Yelp
A coworker introduced me to this place and I've been hooked ever since. I don't get to come here as often as I use to, now that I'm teleworking but when I'm in the area, I get the combo platter, with light lettuce, because they can go heavy on the lettuce, a lot of the white sauce with just a hint of the hot sauce. Sooo good and the service is always superb.
google avatar

Asi S.

Yelp
Just went today to the one in Chamblee. My husband and I shared a regular meatless gyro plate with a side of baba ghanoush and falafel. They were really super nice. They put foil down on the grill to warm the pita and also changed out their gloves without me even having to ask. Would definitely go back just for the service! Food was delicious and I was so excited about the vegan options. Ordered food for my entire family. I believe the gentleman working today was named Ali. Super friendly staff I know other vegans in the area have mentioned the Duluth Location warming up the pita on the grill where the meat is cooked.
google avatar

Tanya J.

Yelp
This place is great! It's Halal, so they have meatless options which works for me. The white sauce is honestly the highlight of the menu LOL. I drenched my dish in it, sorry but I'm not all that sorry. I ordered to go, and it took 5 extra minutes for them to prepare my falafel. That was fine with me! The spicy sauce is ridiculously spicy, that that's coming from someone that loves spicy food. One line on your food is enough!!! I ordered the large plate, and ate it in two servings. I didn't realize how much food they give! I paid about $10 for my meal. I will be back!!!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Much like most of the B&M halal guys are NOT as good at the OG on 53&6th. But this place is definitely under the bar. The portions are certainly under served compared to other locations. I mean normally I get my halal without rice and they will FILL UP my tray with lettuce and tomatoes. Here they much be on a lettuce shortage. I didn't even get half a tray. Out of the two people I talked to in the order process one was unfriendly and the other was rather pleasant. So 50%. All in all. Not the BEST Halal guys I have been too.
google avatar

Rodrigo T.

Yelp
Probably one of the best success stories on earth. And yes, I've had the original lunch cart food before. The one that's few blocks away from time square. Combo platter with the chicken and gyro. A soda to share between me and my fiance'. Life is great! Its always a nice treat to have whenever going to a city that has one of these establishments. The place is nice and clean,, there's ample seating everywhere. The employees are really nice a friendly. They even come out on the floor every so often to see if anybody needs anymore sauces and such. Like the ever so popular white sauce and my favorite red sauce. There's plenty of parking outside as well. We didn't have a hard time trying to park my soon to be sister-in-laws toyota corolla. I had a great time eating and shooting the breeze with loved ones here. I'd definitely be back to eat a combo platter again. Thank you for reading my review. I hope this helps. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!!!

Yelp
The Halal Guys launched to much hype and fanfare earlier this year, January 2017, at the corner of Buford Highway and Chamblee Tucker Road. The restaurant opened to mixed reviews. The crowds have died down and now it's very quick to pick up a meal here. This is the first Georgia location for this New York-based fast-casual halal chain which has hundreds of locations worldwide. The restaurant is located in an old, but renovated, standalone building. There's adequate parking (about 25 spaces). Inside, you stand in line to order, a la Chipotle, and pay upfront. Most sandwiches or plates are assembled on the spot, though some orders, such as the falafel, may require a short wait. Water, fountain drinks, and tea are bottled or self-serve. There's a single unisex restroom which requires a numeric code (2727). The restaurant isn't very big. The dining room has 6 4-person tables (24 seats) and 9 seats at the counter which faces the windows looking out towards Buford Highway northbound. The relatively spacious, fenced-in and elevated, uncovered outdoor patio has at least 6 more 4-person tables. About half of the patio tables have umbrellas. Inside and out, the place can accommodate about 60+ customers total for dine-in. Takeout is a popular option. A good thing about Halal Guys: They're open late -- until 11pm, Sunday-Thursday, and 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu is simple and the food is affordable. You can get a chicken or beef gyro sandwich (pita wrap) for $6.79 or a combo (chicken and gyro) or falafel platter for $7.79 (small) or $8.79 (large). Sides and dessert include hummus, baba ghanouj, falafel, fries, and baklava, all for under $3 each. I've tried both the combo and falafel platters. Between the chicken, gyro, and falafel, I think the gyro tastes the best, hands down. It's too bad you can't get just a gyro platter. That stuff is addictive. Like other Mediterranean restaurants, Halal Guys has spits of gyro meat spinning in their open kitchen, with griddles, behind the counter. Halal Guys slices their gyro meat into small morsels, smaller than most gyro joints I've been to. The meat itself is soft, super savory, and packed with flavor. I could just keep eating and eating it. The chicken, falafels, and sides are OK. They're not anything to write home about, but not bad either. The falafels are medium to large size (bigger than the size of golf balls). The falafels are deep-fried fresh. Their texture and consistency is fine, though I've had crispier and tastier falafels at several other places. An important part of a meal at Halal Guys is the sauce. There's a "white sauce" and a hot sauce. The white sauce is mayo-based and, according to one of the staff, contains a blend of 14 secret spices. The hot sauce is legitimately hot, so use it sparingly unless you love spicy food. They also have tahini sauce for the falafels. Typically, the sauces are squeezed out of squeeze bottles on top of your sandwich or platter ingredients, but you can ask for them on the side. The white sauce and hot sauce are also available in packets. The sauces are yummy and I think they're a must on the chicken and falafel. The gyro meat, in my opinion, is tasty enough on its own to not warrant sauce. Platter sides can include orange-yellow rice, chopped white onion, tomato, and green bell pepper, shredded iceberg lettuce, and pita bread triangles. With the exception of the rice which has a bit of flavor to it, the sides are basic and plain. They're fresh and of satisfactory quality. Fries (ordered separately) are served in a takeout container, similar to a Chinese takeout box. The fries are fairly standard, salted, and crinkle-cut. The baklava is good. The dessert is pre-sliced and packaged in clear plastic snap-shut containers. The baklava is expectedly flaky, sweet, and rich. It's not as nutty as most other baklava I've had, but still scrumptious. If you like baklava, this one is worth trying. Service is excellent. The employees are friendly and do an efficient job. If dining in, they'll walk around from table to table making sure everyone has enough sauce. In the end, I give The Halal Guys in Chamblee 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Generally, the food is fine. It doesn't stand out from the competition with the exception of the gyro meat which is delicious. The meals are fast, relatively healthy and filling, and a decent value. Plus, service is great.

Yelp
Halal Guys in New York from a stand compared to a brick and mortar store is completely different. The food there I gave 5 stars, the food and experience here? Nope. Let's just start off with getting to the cash register. First off, the service was extremely slow and it felt like they didn't know what they were doing. Noted, we were one of the first ones there, but when you open your doors, the restaurant should be open right? With this thought, the food should be ready to go, everyone should be situated, etc. This place? Nope. It seemed like the employees were just hanging around and taking their time. So how was the gyro at least? Nothing like NY. There was absolutely no flavor. The sauce that they served at this location was bland? If you're going to just slather in sauce, you might as just use water because that's how bland it was. It wasn't even flavorful. I was hoping to replicate my experience from NY, but what I got was just disappointment. And what made it worse was that I came for a birthday lunch! All in all, I wouldn't recommend you to come to this location to get your first taste of Halal Guys. To be honest, I feel like the correct and the right location is in NY or at least a food truck, but obviously is pretty difficult. In any case, I would just suggest to maybe try a different location.

Yelp
I had Halal Guys before in NY, and I understood the hype. Whatever this place was serving is not the same quality as those in NY. Not even close. The chicken that came straight off the grill was cold. The gyro was super dry (how does that even happen). The platter was 70% lettuce and tomatoes. The amount of white sauce added to the platter was ridiculous as almost everything would be covered with sauce if you didn't stop the person making the plate. It was like they knew that the gyro was dry. We didn't order falafel, but ended up paying and eating it anyway as it seemed too much problem for the cashier to figure out the system and cancel her mistake (maybe she was new?) Anyways, the falafel was also too dry. Hopefully this was just a bad day and not the standard.

Yelp
Not sure if this is the same as halal guys in New York, but I'm so into it! As a vegan falafel is one of my go tos and it's so hard to find a place that makes it good! The staff were very nice and accommodating, food came out quick, was very filling and flavorful. No complaints!

Yelp
I order from The Halal Guys quite possibly every month via services like Uber Eats/Postmates. Not only is the food absolutely delicious (and very consistently so), but I love the fact that I could order from here pretty late in the night compared to many other restaurants that are normally closed with their business hours. My go-to dish is the Chicken Gyro platter with extra meat and you have to...I mean HAVE TO...get that white sauce packet. It truly does bring everything together. But even without it, I still enjoyed the dish. Grab a couple of falafels on the side as an option and you're good to go. I'd say The Halal Guys is pretty good overall and definitely worth ordering out from (never been to the actual restaurant before) as the option size is very satisfying as is the flavors. P.S. My only negative, and this is a very tiny one, is that I tried the hot sauce packet one day and really didn't care for it much. This is just a personal preference for me but I enjoy spicy foods when the spice element actually has a tasty flavor to accompany it whereas I felt the hot sauce packet was just pure heat with nothing else. Again...just a tiny preference nitpick.

Yelp
After months of annoying anticipation and hype, The Halal Guys finally opened their doors in Atlanta for the first time. I chose not to go on opening day since that's never been a good idea, in my book. While driving by one day, I noticed it was open several days before the grand opening, so I ventured in. There wasn't a line, which was amazing. However, the tiny dining area of literally 6-7 tables were completely full. Why build a storefront if you can't accommodate seating? I've been to both a store and the food cart in NYC. I've never had a chance to eat it fresh, so I was excited to have the chance to eat it piping hot. I ordered the small combo platter (both gyro and chicken) with white sauce on top and hot sauce on the side. Since there wasn't an empty table indoors, we had no choice but to sit in the cold. I'm not sure if my food was instantly chilled the second I walked out the doors to the outdoor seating, but my first bite of chicken and gyro was cold. Yikes. Felt like I was eating from the food cart in the city, but at a higher cost for less food. I came again a month later for a chicken bowl, hoping for a shorter line with better results. Even after a month, there is still no seating indoors (even though there were probably only 20 people inside the restaurant) with some people sharing tables with strangers to get a seat. We ended up eating outside, again, at the exact same time. It wasn't as cold as the first time I ate here, but it was wet from the morning rain, so we stood at the table to eat our food. This restaurant might as well be a food cart because I can't ever get a seat. It's overpriced and you can't even sit to eat your meal.

Yelp
This was great! So, I met my husband here for lunch. We decided to come again because we attempted to come on Grand opening day and the line was massive. We had our one year old with us and I knew he wouldn't last but a few minutes in that line. Today, there was a kine but when I arrived at 210p, we were seated and eating by 230. I got the chicken platter with extra white sauce. The white sauce was delicious.my chicken was seasoned just right and the lettuce was fresh and crispy! I don't care to much for tomatoes I didn't get this added. You can also get onions if your little heart desires! I told my husband we'll come back once a week because this was the perfect lunch. Plus, I had some left over for dinner. The assembly line could use some work because if I wasn't watching, I'd have gotten the wrong order but that'll come with time. I'm sure they'll perfect the technique and make the orders with ease in no time. They charge for water so I declined but other than that I don't have any complaints. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
So I thought their food was just ok. I've had better gyros - right here in Atlanta. Maybe part of the blame is all the hype, the long lines, lone wait times, high expectations. Go early to beat the lunch crowd - I got there about 11:15 and there were several open parking spots, and the line wasn't bad and moved fast. Only a few tables - i think the place is designed more for takeout. Staff was very nice. Pricing is simple - $6.79 (sandwiches), $7.79 (small platter) and $8.79 (large platter). Looking at the platters, you're basically getting a deconstructed gyro and then rice makes up 1/2 the platter space. Since I decided to make my money so further (I'm Frugal Foodie after all), I got the combo sandwich (so I could try their chicken and gyro beef - FYI, no traditional gyro lamb here, just beef), plus 1 order of falafel (2 for $1). COMBO SANDWICH - $6.79 Sandwich is quite large - comes w/ gyro beef (very flavorful), chicken (good but nothing special), lettuce (iceberg - boo) and tomato. Then you can request chopped onions, green peppers and whole olives. I requested white sauce on the side b/c from the pictures, it looked like the platters and sandwiches were drenched. The sauce packet is quite large - looking at the ingredients and also based on taste, I thought it tasted like mayo ... but everyone's been raving about the white sauce so maybe my palate is off. I avoided the red sauce since the reviews mentioned it's really very spicy. Overall sandwich was good - I ended up deconstructing it though b/c I thought the pita bread was too thick. FALAFEL - $1 for 2 The falafels were pretty good but not "out of this world" good :) Served w/ tzatziki sauce. I might try the fries next time. Overall, it's still a welcome addition to Buford Hwy - I don't think we have any other Mediterranean food options in this central hub of BuHi. If you're a Halal Guys fan, definitely sign up for the rewards card - you get a free beverage your first month, and more rewards as you rack up points. The cards are available at the cashier, but then you'll need to sign up online.

Yelp
My coworker and I came here for lunch and we thought getting there at 11:30am, we would avoid the long lines but the line was already out the door! Parking is limited during high traffic times so if you're limited on time, I would get there earlier. We waiting about 20 minutes in line but I think it was worth the wait or maybe we were just super hungry. Food: I ordered the Regular Combo Platter with all three sauces. You get white, spicy and bbq. The Combo comes with Gyro meat and chicken. Every platter has lettuce, tomatoes, and pita bread. It was really good and flavorful! My coworker ordered the fries and I stole a few from him. They were really really good. Not too salty and perfect amount of crunch. I'm excited to return when the lines get shorter :)

Yelp
I will try to keep this short since most people know about halal guys. First, you are certainly paying more for the name than the food. While the Halal Guys provided a unique alternative to street food in NYC, frankly speaking there are way better similar options in Atlanta (Bismillah Cafe- yes yes yes, Cafe Agora, Urban Taali, and countless other Mediterranean/Greek places). However, if eating warm and spicy HG in chilly NYC isn't an option, this is what you will have to work with. The food can come off slightly greasy, overpriced, and the meat not cooked right. The white sauce EXCELS, and the spicy sauce is so hot it could burn your tongue off (seriously- I can handle spicy but this one felt like a volcano erupting in my mount). My first time here, I got one small drizzle of the red spicy sauce and it ruined the flavor altogether. The second time I got none, and ended up just putting three dots on my whole plate and mixing vigorously. The result was significantly better! While I do enjoy the kind of food Halal Guys serves, HG quality is subpar. I'd say it's like eating a fast food burger rather than a tavern burger- both delicious, but certainly a gap in quality. What really stood out to me my last visit was the service I received. The two workers who made our food were hilarious, full of life, quirky individuals who clearly loved their job or did heck of a job pretending. Wonderful staff! So much for making this short...hehehe oh well.

Yelp
Halal! Official grand opening is suppose to be 1/28 (this Sat) at 11AM where the first 50 will get free platters and a drink and first 200 will get a shirt. So glad I didn't have to wait as they're currently open for soft opening! Good luck to those on Saturday lol. Today was a half day for me so I was able to go during a non-busy hour to ensure I didn't have to wait in line. Halal is located on the intersection of Chamblee Tucker and Buford Hwy and you cannot miss it with the bright yellow roof! There's plenty of parking provided and some tables inside as well as some outside seating, which sort of reminds you of Checkers tables. But overall, more meant for togos. I got lucked out with no wait as I put in my order. There was plenty of staff members cooking and staff to get you through the line. I loved that the manager was enthusiastic and full of energy (as you can see from the picture, he was smiling for the camera lol). Though I don't think the other staff members were as happy. Regardless, I ordered a chicken and beef platter, which came out to $18.81 and not so sure if I got charged for extra sauce since I didn't check, but they gave me white sauces to go, as well as a hot sauce, that is SUPER SPICY even for my Korean tongue that you only need one... Got home and tried out both chicken and beef and loved the beef so much more! This is my second time trying and in NY, I had ordered the chicken and hated it but with so much hype and anticipation for this location I wanted to give it another try and I'm glad I did. I typically don't like gyros, but the beef tasted like perfectly seasoned ground beef with a bit of earthy taste that usual gyros have, just enough for me to endure. Overall, another solid place to eat on Buford Hwy! Welcome! Oh and I guess supposedly, there's a frequent visitor card that the staff doesn't really tell you about, according to another Yelper. Guess I need to ask about it next time~

Yelp
I came here hoping for the same great taste as the iconic The Halal Guys in NYC. The presentation is very similar, as it is served in a silver disposable container, and the food is plated very similarly. Unfortunately, the taste didn't come close to replicating the one in New York. I ordered the Combo Chicken and Gyro Platter, and the meat wasn't as good and the red hot sauce tasted off to me. On top of it all, the price was higher as well. Very unfortunate as I would've loved to have had a genuine taste of NYC right here in Atlanta.

Yelp
I am a true Halal Cart follower, anytime a trip to Midtown Manhattan is even remotely possible I make it happen JUST to get that glorious combination platter (for which I will gladly wait in a long line, and enjoy dining on a curb in single digit temperatures shrouded in mysterious manhole cover street steam). When I learned they opened standalone stores in ATL, I had to make it happen! Flavor-wise, it was a pretty satisfying trip down memory lane. Be warned, Halal Guys isn't fine dining (throwing you a bone all you iceberg lettuce haters out there) and if you haven't experienced the original, this may be lost on you. Step one, go to NY and eat from a cart, then visit this place. Just like the movies, New York is the main character of the story (you always know when it is some Canadian city, or worse, some cheesy Hollywood set instead of the real thing). While the flavors brought me back to Broadway, the total experience is a bit lacking. Add VR Goggles someday? The employees, while generally nice were not "Halal Guys". The layout is sort of Subway sandwich or Chipotle meets Halal Cart. I would prefer if they actually set up Halal carts in Atlanta. All things considered, if you are a NY ex-pat looking for the memories of NYC street food, just close your eyes and get in here! BTW, soak that thing in blazing harissa sauce please!

Yelp
Went for the first time last night. Ordered one beef and one chicken Gyro. Also a baklava. Arrived at about 5PM and the parking lot was empty and since I couldn't see anyone inside I though it might be closed. I pulled on the door and was greeted by the 3 employees behind the counter. I was the only customer in the place. The workers were super friendly and completed my order quickly. The Food: The pita bread seems straight from a plastic bag. It was thick and dry. The lettuce had that taste of oldness, you know like it was chopped yesterday. The sandwiches were sub par compared to every other place I've had gyros and shawarma in the ATL area. The baklava was OK but nothing to write home about. One other thing; later the same evening I was dying of thirst. I chalked it up to there being a lot of salt hidden in the beef or red sauce. For $22 there are numerous other places on the BuHi to get a better meal.
