There is nothing quite like walking into place and hearing the sizzle from the flat top. The meat getting nice and caramelized, the aromatic rice, *breathes in heavily* just glorious.
As soon as I looked at the menu, I knew I wanted to try both of their meats, so I settled on a combination platter (gyro and chicken). Next comes the rice tomato, and lettuce. A couple pieces of pita bread follow, and then you get to the sauce station. You definitely want both of these sauces. The white sauce is nice and creamy (and I'm sure, full of calories) and the red has a very noticeable kick to it. Being the spicy food lover that I am, I told the employee to give me two lines instead of the standard one. She looked at me with a confused look, but once I assured her I can handle it, she gave me two. Guys... let this be a lesson, go with the one line of red ;-).
As soon as I got to my table, I mixed it all up and enjoyed every bite. Some may say it's just meat, rice, and sauce, but the flavors are on point. I needed to get a refill of my water every other bite, but it wasn't too bad and I enjoyed it. Luckily for me, an employee walks around asking if you would like more white sauce, which I more than happily accepted to try to bring the heat level down.
All in all, I like The Halal Guys, and I am happy to see they found a new home in The Big D. But remember guys, just one line of the red sauce!
