The Halal Guys Opens in Midtown Atlanta in September | Eater Atlanta

"Franchise owner Moynul Chowdhury says he plans to open a Duluth location in the Kroger shopping plaza at 3455 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near the corner of Peachtree Industrial and Pleasant Hill Road; he is aiming to replicate the long lines and enthusiasm that have marked the Atlanta outpost. The Halal Guys started as a Manhattan food cart in 1990, serves Halal food prepared according to Islamic law, and is best known for its chicken and gyro platter served over rice." - Beth McKibben

Google
It’s in a strip mall so parking nearby can be limited, but there’s more spots in front of Kroger. The interior isn’t pretentious and simply functional, everything (chairs, tables, restrooms etc) is clean. The food offered is similar to other branches and the quality & taste is still pretty good. Value is alright considering that almost everything is going up in prices these days, at least they didn’t decrease the amount of stuff they put in the platter. Staff was polite and the service was fast.

Look hear me out. I havent been to this location yet, but before i head back to my base i will come to y'all. Just understand my first time having halal guys was back in New york city waiting in a long line. Then i spent most my time going to the one thats about 20miles away (kind of far) now theres one closer to my house. Your kidding. Anyways the food from halal guys are great i always recommend please support and try the food. They wont disappoint you. Much love ❤️

Google
We love Halal Guys. Great food and service. However we won’t be ordering the hummus again, the serving size has gotten so small while the price got jacked up! $7 for this single thin layer of hummus, that’s crazy. Other than that, 5 stars for the rest of the food.

Google
Reza is a really great guy. He knows exactly how to talk to customers and took my order in a very professional and polite way. I also asked him for a couple of extra sauces, and he gave them without any hesitation. Overall, Reza provided excellent service and I truly appreciate it.

Google
Today I go over there food is amazing. I meet two guys thair they are very good person .

Google
Ordered through DoorDash only for them to not include any of the white and red sauces. Anyone who eats here knows how important the sauces are to the food. When we called the store multiple times, there was no answer or callback. Ultimately we had to drive to the store just to pick up the sauces which means we basically paid $60 to be inconvenienced because what’s the point of getting food delivered only for it to miss vital items and having to go get it ourselves? Extremely disappointed and upset.

Google
I really enjoyed the vibrant flavor of food. Staff was attentive and very polite, friendly but given one less star because I couldn’t feel taste as NY street, I missed that tiny delightful, may be because staff miss that touch. Rest all I definitely refer people to try it.

Google
This employee named Nasir was really kind and he was just a really cool dude. He made my day and the food was amazing. I really recommend this place!

Yelp
The food is amazing! I'm vegetarian so I get the falafel, and when I tell you these ladies make my order right and fast each and every time.. Is the reason why i come to this location about 2-3 times a week. The food has so much flavor, and the women at this specific location are GREAT! No complaints at all.. keep up the good work! Before I went vegetarian they chicken and lamb are the best ones to order. It's actually juicy and NOT dry. And seasoned well.

Yelp
This business catered to us for lunch. I ordered the beef bowl, which comes with rice, tomatoes. Lettuce and I think, cheese, and a side of pita. They did not have the tzaziki sauce. Yet instead offered something called a white sauce, which is mildly akin to a ranch dressing. While the bowl was good, I definitely would only want the tzaziki sauce, especially if the bowl was lamb. What I will say is that their food is of good quality, and I would definitely patronize one of there standalone establishments.

Yelp
Workers were trainees and were absolutely chaotic.. kept asking what topping I wanted over and over again. Probably told them over 5 times.. the manager apologized saying they were training. Which I understood. But in the end, they forgot my falafel order which I had to wait for and then they forgot to pack my hummus which I paid $7 for.. Chicken wrap and steak bowl were okay but the falafel was super small and dry. Not worth the price. The bowl came with pita bread and they were very dry and stale.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to speak and make sure I had a great experience.

Yelp
Went on Friday around 5:30pm to to-go some gyro platters, hummus and cheesecake. Got home and excitedly unpacked the foods and what the heck were they thinking serving this freaking mess. Everything tasted like they sat out forever and dry. The meat was so jerky like and hardened to the point where you couldn't chew through and could seriously cause damage to your teeth. The pita triangles they add in for the platter were so stale...it was crumbling like hardened chips- how's that even possible..? How long were they sitting out??? The hummus was the wrong kind- asked for regular/the original, but ended up with a super citrus one...I should've known when I kept having to remind him of the items he kept forgetting to grab for the order...I asked for the sauces on the side- which the guy almost forgot, had to ask again when checking out, asked for regular cheesecake but he bagged chocolate...which I asked to replace...forgot the pita for the hummus but it's fine cus those would've been inedible as well. We ended up throwing away everything- just couldn't eat any of it. Don't serve your customers old and dried up food- don't serve anyone that...have some morals.

Yelp
HFN .... Never Again ... ordered from here on Sunday ... i usually go to Grecian Gyro when I want a gyro ... but I'm we decided to give this place a try ... and it was very disappointing ... my pita bread was hard ... my wrap was cold ... and the Z sauce is sweet ...

Michelle M.

Yelp
This restaurant is not a good choice. The food was not fresh and they were not following clean protocols with the food handling. Touching the food and then other items such as the cash register. I only took a couple of bites and decided to not finish the meal. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
I dined here on a Monday unfortunately they were out of falafel and baklava cheesecake so I had to get fries instead. Like their website says their name is fresh and the ingredients are fresh but what really makes their dishes and bowls very good is the sauces- I counted six different ones. I recommend Halal Guys for a fresh meal. However they are hit on the expensive side is my lunch came to $16.00 plus.
google avatar

Yelp
This location of the Halal guys is easy to access and has plenty of parking as it is adjacent to large grocery stores. The interior is very clean and the staff was extremely professional and held a good service oriented attitude. My party ordered: * 1 Chicken Wrap * 1 Falafel Plate * 1 Beef/Chicken Plate We found the food to be average, most of the food tasted a bit stale (chicken/falafel and most of the pita), did not taste fresh cooked. The hummus was good as were the sauces. The price was about $10/person. I liked the service, but, the quality of the food leaves something to be desired. Would not avoid, but, am not eager to revisit.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this chain for awhile. It had been some time since I'd had some Middle Eastern/Mediterranean fare, so I was craving the flavors of those cuisines recently. I took advantage of an Uber Eats coupon I had and ordered the Beef Gyro plate with a side of Falafel, Baba Ghanoush, and "white sauce." Everything was delivered with care and was very tasty. I would order everything again except probably the Baba Ghanoush. I think I'm more of a plain hummus person, and to my understanding, Baba Ghanoush is more like an eggplant hummus almost. I wasn't crazy on the texture as it was almost slimy in nature. It was better with the pita though. I had ordered extra white sauce on the side, but you really don't need it. They give lots with your plate. I ordered the regular beef gyro plate and ended up with leftovers, but the small I'm sure would've been ample next time. Great portions at this place. I would definitely order take-out or delivery again.

Yelp
This place is located in the shopping plaza with Kroger. It's over on the side next to Moe's. Just look for the bright yellow and red signage. My gyro was stuffed with lots of goodness. I had the beef and added black olives which cost an extra $.65, but they were really good in quality. I'm a spicy person but they're hot sauce is extremely spicy! If you're unsure just get it on the side, they have these little packets you can use. The bread was super soft and the white sauce drizzled in my sandwich was really tasty, and especially when you dunk your crinkle french fries in it! BTW - The french fries come in a takeout box container, so one order is enough to feed two or three people! I ordered the falafel side which were just too small is size balls. But the outside was so crispy and light and the inside was very tasty. Of course, dunk these into the white sauce. My only downside is that it's hard to eat. But that's just the nature of a gyro it's just too messy so just get in and get it done. Everything was fresh, nice proportions, and very nicely done - I would definitely go back again.

Yelp
The Halal Guys Duluth is the latest installment to at this point a well established franchise. If you consider their humble beginnings as a simple food cart in NYC, they've come quite far from then till now. They have other locations in GA, but this is the one that is the most OTP. They chose a prime location in a shopping center that includes an LA fitness nearby. You know how your metabolism gets after some cardio! They are essentially at the tail end of Pleasant Hill Road, which already has a lot of food options from many countries. Interior wise, it's a long narror restaurant with seating and tables on the front and along the wall. You order at the counter and they prepare it for you like how Subway and Chipotle does it. You get to the end and pay. Pretty simple! Menu wise, it's like all their other locations. You have options for platters or sandwich dishes. All of which come with their mix of veggies, rice, and meet. On top of it all, you have the option to add their world famous white sauce, as well as their insanely spicy red sauce. In terms of taste, I order the combo platter that includes chicken and beef. The meat quality and how well it's cooked is usually key when it comes to this type of cuisine and I will say that today the chicken and beef were prepared well. Everything felt fresh. I've been to other Halal Guys where sometimes the beef was just too dry, but not the case today. It was tender and flavorful. Plus the white sauce adds tons to the taste. Overall, since it was their soft opening, I did expect them to care and pay more attention to every little detail. They did a great job job today, so I'm thoroughly impressed. Let's see if they can keep it up though. Definitely worth checking out when they do have their grand opening.

Yelp
This location has just recently opened. As soon as I opened the door I was warmly greeted. Since it was my first time coming in I ordered the combo platter with chicken and beef. Both were tasty but I really liked the beef. It came with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, pita bread and sauce. I opted to just try the white sauce. As I was eating one of the employees came by with the sauces and checked to see if I wanted more. It was a nice touch. Everything tasted very fresh. The portion size for the small was just right. The place had a steady flow of customers and they were all warmly greeted. I would definitely come back. Check it out. I think you will be glad you did.

Yelp
Wasn't like the original place we had eaten at ... and everything is less in quantity and additional charges are applied if you ask for anything for eg jalapeño

Yelp
I had heard a bit of hype about this "chain" on social media, from FB posts to IG tags, many of the pictures of the food looked great and at the time this location happened to be right around the corner from work. Finally went one day w/a coworker and must say I was underwhelmed. The ordering process wasn't all that smooth, the portions were so so, and the taste was just ok. I had gotten a platter with falafel on the side and it was overcooked and a bit too crunchy. Taste vs money paid it's just not good value. I may try another location some day, I may not, certainly wouldn't be in a rush to.
google avatar

Triana S.

Yelp
We've ordered takeout from here a few times. As you can see, the topping are piled on . I'll probably go lighter on the lettuce next time, but some may enjoy heavy lettuce. I always end up having leftovers, especially since they provide pita with the dish. My kid got a gyro & it was a nice size also. This is a place I'll continue to go to as long as they serve quality food at an affordable price.
google avatar

Tracie R.

Yelp
The service was great, but the food was just ok, not particularly fresh or flavorful... nothing special.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
I've always loved Halal Guys - their delicious white sauce and in your face hot sauce that is super spicy. I always get the platter, with good balance of rice to counter the salty meat. I only get the Gyro meat as I had tried the half gyro half chicken and very much prefer the gyro meat. I also tried the traditional Gyro this time but it was too salty for me - I needed the rice, so I'll be going with the platter from now on. I ordered online and got free fries and a drink for downloading the app, and the fries were pretty good! Ordered through the app and it was ready by the time I drove there. I''ll be coming here every time I need my Halal fix!
google avatar

JJ K.

Yelp
It satisfies my Hala Guys craving, but it's not quite the same as what you get in NYC. The portion is smaller and the meat choices tend to be dry. I enjoy the quick service.
google avatar

Jessie Y.

Yelp
The staff here is super friendly especially the guy that works here. The food is great and tasty for the price. I tried their small falalfel bowl ($9) and a small combo bowl ($9) that comes with chicken and beef. Their hummus is good too and comes with pita bread ($4). I really enjoy their white sauce and I think it tastes better than the Tahini sauce that doesn't have much flavor at all. I heard their hot sauce is good but super spicy. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Darren H.

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise especially for this area.when you are ready to break out of the normal. The staff is here has a quick smile in terms of information when you have questions. All the food is fresh to order, while we were here there was a steady stream of customers. We both enjoyed our food & would stop in here again.
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE this place !! I order Uber eats all the time but I was driving by tonight and decided to stop in ! The guy was super friendly, our plates were stuffed to the top and the price as always was reasonable!!

Yelp
my husband and I went to the Buford location at 4:30 PM May 4, 2024. There were 5 customers in front of us with one worker on the grill and one worker making bowls and checking people out. There was another worker sitting in the restaurant on break. We waited in line for 30 minutes while the slowest workers in the world made five super simple platters. It's not like there's a ton of things on the menu. waiting in line for 30 minutes. The worker who was Spanish-speaking goes over to the worker making bowls goes over to the worker sitting in the room with her phone something to her then she gets up and comes to tell me and my husband, unfortunately, they can no longer make any platters as they are out of rice, how long does it take to make rice to which she said 30 minutes and I said why wasn't there an announcement that you guys were low on rice instead of having us stay here for 30 minutes to which she just looked and smiled politely and said there were two people behind us upset as well. While we were pulling away, we saw six people walk in and walk out looking frustrated. I don't know how they plan to sustain a business model like this but this location in Buford definitely needs better management. They make small portions of food because they can't predict their rush-hour , which is understandable because I have an issue with the food being dry last time I called to speak to a manager I called yesterday, which was Monday asked to speak to a manager and now today there is never any management at this location and the gentleman on the phone today and no one can never give a time or date when management might be in. this is very disappointing because I'm from New York when I saw guys I got so excited because of the nostalgia, the first time I went, it was amazing maybe because of the nostalgia but every time subsequently that I've went I am disappointed and unfortunately like a stubborn New Yorker I keep trying , hoping they will get it right
google avatar

Jang C.

Yelp
Of course, if we want to review Halal Guys, you'll naturally compare it with the famous NYC street food. I had the one in NYC, and it was great. There's nothing like waiting in line outside, in whatever weather NYC will give you, and ordering some greasy gyros from cranky street vendors. They also only took cash. Well, this isn't the same street food you know and love. They changed it to a fast-casual style restaurant, like Moe's. And they take major credit cards. I tried their beef sandwich and their chicken sandwich. A sandwich is basically a pita wrap. The pita they use was nothing special. It tasted a bit stale. The beef was dried out and lacking much flavor. I would've wanted some nice, Mediterranean flavors, but there wasn't much. The white sauces did help it. I would avoid the beef sandwich. The chicken was a bit better. It seemed juicier. I'm thinking they used dark meat for the chicken. So the meat had a bit more juice and fat to make it tasty. The white sauce made it more juicy and messy--almost like the street food version. The pita bread still was meh. But at least the meat tasted better. As expected, this isn't like the original street cart in NYC. I would call it the poor-man's version of it. Then again, it's been years since I had the NYC version. Maybe the NYC version is the exact same. I guess the "experience" of the streets made it taste better? I do remember the NYC version being almost addictive. I wished the franchises can bring the same flavor. The gyros here are average. The staff were very nice though. If you're in the area and need some gyros for some reason, I guess you can try their chicken sandwhich.

Yelp
I've loved Halal Guys for years and was excited to see that there are locations in Atlanta. My bf literally ordered from this location once a week when he lived in the area. I joined him once and the food was just as good as any Halal Guys I've ever had in New York or Miami. Great value for the amount of food you get as well, and the ingredients are always fresh.

Umar G.

Yelp
Great!!!! I luv the kind and friendly staff. Service is great came here just for the special red velvet cake and loved it!
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
I had the falafel with beef and it was very good and reasonably priced. What I'm surprised by is they don't have the lamb which is the traditional meat for such a meal. Hence my three star rating. But the folks inside are great and so is the restaurant.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
I've been to this place a couple times and each time it gets worse and worse. I try to keep giving it another shot but I don't think I'm coming back. Rice is getting dry and meat is tough and now they trying to charge $1 for one pack of hot sauce? They say it's free if you put it into the bowl platter but if you want just one pack on the side it's $1? Told her no thank you because the hot sauce is very spicy and I like to control how much I put in. Then she gives it to me for free then tries to tell me next time she won't be able to give to me for free. I don't want free. But I'm not gonna let you gouge me for a pack of hot sauce the size of a ketchup packet for $1.
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
Never again. I ordered and paid extra for a double meat platter but only got 1 meat. My wife's food had 2 hairs in it. We threw everything in the trash. They need to shut that shit down. Gtfoh. This is my first review on anything ever.
google avatar

Krelin N.

Yelp
Was really hoping for more out of this place. I called the store to place an order and was told they don't take orders over the phone and that I had to order through the Halal Guys app. So I downloaded the app and ordered 3 items from the limited time menu: Meatless Gyro, Meatless Platter, and Eggplant Humus. I went to the store to pick up my food to find it wasn't ready even though I arrived After the ready by time. I ended up waiting 30 minutes After the ready by time until my food was ready. Staff was apologetic but it seems that 40-45 is a bit ridiculous to complete an order. The food was pretty average tasting overall. The plant meat was seasoned to taste like real meat but came off a bit dry. The other fillings seemed rather basic and unseasoned other than the rice which did have some dynamics to it. The taziki sauce was a good addition to help add some flavor. The eggplant humus was a different spin but again I felt could have used some more spice and flavoring to it. Unfortunately I was not impressed by my first experience here.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Their food is good and the white sauce rocks. On my last visit, I noticed they raised the price of a large platter from $9.99 to $12.49. That is a 25% increase. Not worth it at that price, so I won't be back.
google avatar

Madhava C.

Yelp
Extremely average affair. The famed white sauce is alright, but the red sauce is as hot as they claim. There are a lot of better Mediterranean joints in Atl though.
google avatar

Fred F.

Yelp
Driving by the area I was looking for a Boston market, Unfortunately they closed. Across the street I saw The Halal Guys. First time did it know what to expect and I must say I F****'s with it !!! It was delicious. TBH, I came in here hungrier then a mother lover . They don't have much selection but the chicken and beef. The staff is cool, I was eager to write a review and definitely enjoyed the meal. They also have crafted teas!!! Amazing !!!

Styleen H.

Yelp
Great food! Fresh tasting, clean restaurant and friendly, helpful service!!! Everyone smiles and checked in on us when we ate.

Yelp
I have never been to the famous Halal Guys in New York, but this place was great! We got our orders for to go and the restaurant seemed to follow all Covid protocols. Service: Staff was super friendly. It was our first time there, and the staff let us know beforehand that the red sauce was HOT. I'm so glad they told me if not I would have asked for too much. When I asked for extra white sauce they were more than generous with the topping. Food: We each got the regular combo platter. It was so much food, and the portions of meat were extremely generous. Totally worth the price. The meat was really good but the sauce was the real winner here. I would recommend asking for extra white sauce and 1 line of red sauce. It was a perfect lunch.

Tina G.

Yelp
Worst chicken gyro as it was so bland I only tasted the pita I will not return! Took forever and there were no beef options. They were out and didn't make attempt to make more even in the time we sat to eat. Very sad business. I'm very disappointed
google avatar

Yelp
I was happy to have a Halal Guys location open up closer to me. Being from NY, the Halal Guys is something that my family & I crave once in a while. Although it isn't quite the same (I heard the 53rd & 6th location isn't either), it's still pretty good! The food is delicious but at $10 for a platter, it isn't quite the deal it used to be. The service here is great though. I absolutely have enjoyed every conversation I've had with Ali, who runs the place, and all the employees have been social for the most part. I will definitely be returning but hopefully the rewards app will add some more value back to this franchise!
google avatar

Sunmin L.

Yelp
I recommend downloading the app and ordering online. You get a free side and drink with your first order. The platter comes with two white sauces and one red sauce. The staff were wearing masks and gloves. They have social distancing stickers for customers.

Dill S.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great environment. Would definitely recommend. I got the platter and the meat was flavorful and the veggies were fresh.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
Had dinner here and shared a regular chicken platter with my mom! The portions are very big and we even had some leftover so for the price, the portion is perfect! The chicken was so good and the white sauce was everything. They made sure to put a lot! The worker was so kind and helpful and made sure my order was quick and easy. I only added one stripe of the hot sauce and even then it was pretty spicy since i didn't mix my bowl very well. Overall, the food was AMAZING and i'm definitely eating here again!!
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
Love that Halal Guys came to ATL. The folks that work here are super efficient and every time I visited they provided excellent customer service. I'm a huge fan of the chicken and steak combo. Don't know what "secret" recipe is in their white sauce but I can't get enough of it. I appreciate that their shredded lettuce is always clean and crispy. No one likes old, soggy lettuce and you won't get that here at this location. They have their own parking lot and self serve fountain machine. The few times I've been here, the moment you walk in you can't help breathe in the "greasy fries" smell but it slowly disappears as you wait in line to place your order. Their fries are perfectly crispy and I appreciate that their gyro meat isn't over cooked and dry. Looking forward to checking out their second location in Duluth soon.

Yelp
Halal guys originated in NYC as popular food stands that offered a lot of middle eastern food for a reasonable price. They moved down to Atlanta in the past several years and expanded to several locations. Menu wise there's a few main options. First its choosing sandwich or platter. the meat chicken, beef, a combination of both, or falafel. The white and hot sauces are what makes Halal Guys famous. You can have them added in or as sauce packets, but they're a bit stingy on giving you sauce packets vs adding it in for some reason. Hot sauce is super spicy, so I would add a small bit at a time. I like the meat, it's really tender and the food generally is filling and tasty. Price wise it'll set you back around $10 pp, which might be cheap in NYC but is a bit higher priced for fast food around in Atlanta. I would recommend it though, one of those places you can go back every other week or month.
google avatar

Mitchell H.

Yelp
I am going to raise my review from 2 to 3 stars, because the portions were generous and the food fresh. If they get the management of their store on par (the people are nice and service was fine, it was the other details where they fell short, like no tea, no lemonade, no napkins...). I am truly rooting for them and maybe I just caught them on a bad day. So I will give them a 3 star review for "average." When they become above average or exceptional, I will update again.
google avatar

Alberta B.

Yelp
This is for the staff pls wear hair covers. Finding two pieces of hair in my food is super unappetizing . The food looks good but unfortunately I could not even have a bite due to the hair
google avatar

Luke T.

Yelp
1/3 meat , 2/3 lettuce and tomatoes no fries for $10... disappointing , still hungry. First time I went to a chain for gyros , Arby's is same quality and a better deal.
google avatar

Ulises R.

Yelp
Gonna make this short since my love for halal guys has already proclaimed in my review for their midtown location (check it out.. JK haha... unless..?) I came here for their grand opening last week and their staff and management made sure it went by as smoothly as possible. Doors opened at 11am and my friend and being around 30th in line made it in by 11:15 which is the fastest I've gotten to eat at any grand opening. Once inside, we were greeted by some of the most friendly and fast staff I've seen at a halal guys. I ordered the same combo platter I always get and the taste was as great as any of their other locations. This type of consistency is why halal guys will always hold a special place in my heart. Shout out to the management and staff for making this one of the best grand openings I've ever been to! Make sure to check this place out
google avatar

SJ L.

Yelp
Oh dear lord, where to begin. This does zero justice to the hard working folks in the halal cart at 53rd and 6th. I'll give an extra star for the good customer service but the food is a big fat NO. Salty, dry meat, dry rice I def won't be visiting here again.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Nice friendly staff but only average food. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. The restaurant was nearly empty at noon on a Friday - That says it all.

Yelp
We were here last night & it was about their closing time . I am writing this review based on the great service that we got from Craig & Steven . They were very friendly to us & as well other customers . Food is always great here that everyone knows but even around closing time when they had lots of work to finish still gave us outstanding service. I would request the owner to use heavy duty fork instead that cheap quality fork .
