New Orleans Food Hall Pythian Market Is Being Evicted. What Will Happen to Its Vendors? - Eater New Orleans

"Another downtown food hall that opened around the same time as Pythian Market, Auction House Market, shut down earlier this year. In that case, the building’s owners brought in a new food hall operator, Jamal Wilson, who opened the Hall on Mag, New Orleans’s first Black-owned food hall, in August 2022." - Clair Lorell

The best meal we have had this 2022 trip to NOLA. The foods at the Hall on Mag are all amazing. You cannot go wrong. By far our favorite was the prawns from El Greco by Chef Diego Ulin. This dish is a home run! I cannot recommend this place enough. I can see us coming back to explore more of their food and drink offerings.

The Hall on Mag is worth the visit whenever you're in NOLA. The interior is beautifully designed, and their menu is varied enough that you have to come back to try their other dishes. I visited only days after their opening weekend, but the staff is already sailing smoothly. Trying to get a good measure of the different offerings, I ordered Lettuce Wraps, a Fluffy Taco, Arancini, Hush Puppies, Flaming Saganaki, Churros, Baklava, and a mocktail. This was barely too much food for one person, but I was hungry after a long day of traveling, so make of that what you will. I first received the mocktail. I had asked for something refreshing, and this is exactly what I was delivered. It looked beautiful, and, following a theme throughout my meal, the flavors were balanced perfectly. The lettuce wraps were a balanced mixture of the 5 tastes, with the peanut sauce shining throughout the dish. There was just the right amount of lettuce served with the filling, which is an often overlooked element of a dish, and deserves special mention. The flaming Saganaki was very good, but I have a strong bias for this type of dish. The spirit used to light the dish aflame was everclear, so there was a slight lasting bitterness to one of the bites that was a little overpowering. Otherwise the rest of the dish was very balanced and delightful. The fluffy taco is very similar in looks to a gordita, but in terms of execution, structure, and flavor, this blows the gordita away. It comes with a dipping sauce that is the right amount of heat and smokiness to add to the dish in the perfect way. The chef is from Mexico, and I think he's doing his country a service with this take on traditional street fare. Being fair, by the time I had tried the Arancini and Hush Puppies, I was getting quite full. The Arancini are subtly flavored, but shine best when not dipped into the tomato in the bowl. The bush puppies are to be dipped into housemade fancy ketchup, and both are very good, though filling. I enjoyed my visit and will be looking forward to visiting again on my next trip!

This is the black experience I was looking for! Before we walked into the building, we were introduced by the owner Jamal, who was super pleasant and friendly! Atmosphere, drinks, music, food were 10/10. Shout out to Eliza for making our Sunset drinks. They were the highlight of the night! Did I mention it’s black-owned?!

Good food, nice environment but huge lack of management and customer service. These people have no idea how to operate a Restaurant. My food came out before my friend’s food (both dishes were ordered together and it was supposed to arrive to the table together). 20 minutes after finishing my food my friend’s meal arrived. Huge lack of communication in between customers and servers, uncomfortable situation in between customers at the table. Server brought the machine to charge us without bringing the bill. They have no idea how to operate a business. The atmosphere is nice. But they def need to start over and learn how to provide at least, an average customer service. Never back again.

It was my first time back after a few years (and with the new owners). The place is just as good as before but you can now get food from any "stand" with a server at your table. Standouts were the churros, smoked yam sazerac and the spicy tuna. Gabby took great care of us and we can't wait to get back!

What a Phenomenal experience!!! Beautiful Waitstaff and Gorgeous Open Bar area with hanging live plants. We were seated immediately and our Server Joe was TOP NOTCH, professional and exceptional! My Wife thoroughly enjoyed the recommended Sunset Cocktail and the Rosemary was one of the BEST I have ever experienced! The Sushi Fries & Casear Salad w Grilled Chicken is a MUST and my 2 young boys loved the Table-Side Guacamole (although my Wife remarked mine is still better!) Very impressed from start to finish!! We will most definitely be back to New Orleans and revisit this gem again!!! AMAZING!

I have been at this place for lunch, dinner, between meal cocktails and to go drinks. I really appreciate everything they have done for this place and I certainly believe they did a great job. However I am taking two stars off solely because of one specific bartender — we have been tended by her more than handful times as she appeared to be the main bartender and she always had attitude. I first thought it was only towards me but unfortunately everybody has told me the same so not sure what her problem was. She had curly hair and always in ponytail. I really am not a name caller but our experience with her has been beyond terrible that I do not believe I will be back unless I have to. Whenever I was served by other bartenders, it has been such a pleasant experience — they were all welcoming and very tending. Not fair to give a negative rating to the whole establishment due to one specific employee so I am only taking two stars off but yes, the food and their cocktails are fantastic. Congratulations on revamping this place!
