Yelp
A great concept wasted by execution.
Hall on the Yard has a lot going for it -- it's a beautiful space, in a cool neighborhood, surrounded by awesome businesses. By all metrics, it's been set up for success; however, both times I've dined here have been a disappointment.
In my most recent visit, my friends and I made a reservation for thirteen. If you have a large party, please note that more than half your party needs to be present before they'll seat you, even if the Hall is mostly empty. Once seated, our servers were prompt and friendly; we got our drinks right away and the refill service was attentive. I don't have a lot of complaints about the service, but will note that one person at our table had the wrong order delivered to her twice before the correct order was served, and since everything comes from different kitchens, everyone else had gotten their food and was halfway done with their meal by the time her food came out.
Hall on the Yard boasts nine restaurants, but only half were open and available for service. This was a little bit of a disappointment because we'd chosen Hall on the Yard for their variety of choices due to many in our group having dietary restrictions. The stall with the most vegan and celiac-friendly options was closed, so some of our group had to make-do with hodge-podge appetizer selections. We were also told that the cocktail menu was also limited and that specific liquors weren't available or in stock.
The food that came out, overall, was underwhelming. I ordered from Sabba Mediterranean Cuisine, but many in the group ordered from a variety of stalls, including True Island and Norma's Italian Eatery. If you're here for food, I'd honestly recommend that you go elsewhere. My Beef Shawarma was ok -- most of the flavor came from the Tabbouleh Salad used in the wrap; the meat tasted under-seasoned, though it was generally cooked well. It honestly felt like I was eating a less-satisfying version of a Chipotle beef burrito. I paid a bit extra to sub out the fries for the Grape Leaves, but was disappointed there as well; I've never had such a dry version of Grape Leaves, and the rice had no flavor.
One person in our group got the Jerk Chicken from True Island and commented that the chicken was mostly bone and every bite contained bones or bone shards regardless of how well she cut around it. She also mentioned that the side of Roti tasted more like a tortilla, but that the cabbage tasted good.
Some of these critiques may seem harsh, but if you're shelling out $30+ per person, not including drinks, I'd expect the food quality to be better. There are many food halls that have been successful in Orlando and other areas, but Hall on the Yard is definitely overhyped at its current level.
Overall, I don't think I'll return given its current state. It seems to be withering from a lack of care at the management level (even the website isn't updated to show the current selection of food stalls and the menus online are out of date). It doesn't matter if the atmosphere is lovely, the service is just ok and the food is middling, at best.
