Hamilton Hotel’s Huge Overhaul Includes a New Neapolitan Pizza Bar | Eater DC

"Nearing its 100th birthday, the aging 318-room art deco hotel is receiving a months-long, Rockefeller-inspired makeover that aims to recapture its midcentury reputation as a D.C. hotspot and inaugural-ball host; when the renovation wraps up next spring it will reemerge with a new library-themed lobby bar, a modernized lobby that preserves its beaux-arts bones while adding pops of color, velvet, marble and wood detailing, and a refreshed restaurant featuring Italian fare. The to-be-named lobby bar, open daily for happy hour, pays homage to the hotel's Prohibition-era architect Jules-Henrí de Sibour (born in France and an early member of Yale’s Skull and Bones), and some changes will appear as early as this fall, including a Newseum-inspired suite dubbed “The Newsroom” that honors Alexander Hamilton and will feature a daily gallery of front-page news from more than 800 international newspapers on iPads and rotating interiors tied to Newseum exhibits such as Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement. Other incoming amenities include pricey Peloton bikes in the gym and wellness and beauty kits from Jet Set." - Tierney Plumb

We've been frequenting The Hamilton for quite some time now, and I have to say, ya'll are missing out. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the vibe is pretty chill. They have a special pretty much every day of the week. Our favorite is Taco Tuesday. The service is consistently awesome, we love our regular bar tenders (we always sit at the bar). Definitely try the jalapeño margarita. Lastly, for wine drinkers, this place is a gem. The Hamilton sells all of their bottles at retail. I had to do a double take when I first read the wine menu. I can't recall finding this at any other establishment, anywhere. So, I highly recommend you give this place a go. It's a fantastic joint for a low key night out, or pre party before you head out. Affordable & friendly, you can't go wrong.

Didn't eat and just had cocktails. Went on a Wednesday when they were $7 a piece. Drinks were delicious. The bar is swanky and intimate with lots of 2 tops. Perfect place for a first date or deep conversation with a friend. Might have to wait a little longer for a drink but it's so worth it because it's cleverly crafted.

Google
Wow! Gorgeous, welcoming space with a touch of Northside architecture in tiny patches of exposed wall. Ingenious Kendra, the bartender is personable, attentive & according to the guys next to me makes the best cocktail ever Kind of weird to comment on the restrooms but they are seriously nice & the hand soap smells amazing ❤️

Google
Flatbread & sangria were great happy hour choices with much more on the menu. Ashley was helpful and attentive while also working the bar. The place is cute & clean with subtle lighting & fun decor. Nice wine display.

Google
Outstanding. Great drinks. And one of the best charcuterie boards around. The beer cheese was out of this world as well. #localspot #naturalwine #romantic

I went to The Hamilton last night for a double date. Drinks were $6 and tasted amazing! I only drank the Fallen Apple but I had a sip of Its Tricky and Gettin Figgy with It. It's Tricky was a bit strong but I am not a whiskey girl. Gettin Figgy with It was strong as well but the flavors were really balanced and the fig tasted delicious. I really love the Fallen Apple and can't wait to go back again. We also had Northside Charcuterie, Beer Cheez & pretzels, and a Brat plate. The cheese for the pretzels was tasty but the texture was ok.The pretzels were warm and soft but a bit salty. I liked the Charcuterie board and tried a few of the pickled vegetables. Also, the place is gorgeous! And the bathrooms are so clean (we discussed the men's bathroom as well)! They have bath and body works hand soap and soft toilet paper not that hard 1 ply stuff! George the bartender was super nice and attentive! If you're in or near Northside I'd definitely check them out!

Google
I finally get to update my review! Made a stop into The Hamilton on a Tuesday Night. They have a $2.00 Taco's, you have the choice of Chicken, Pork, and Tofu. I tried all 3 and they were delicious and a very good value! I also had the Maverick, which was made with Bulleit Rye, Hibiscus liqueur and Strawberry puree and it was surprisingly a great mix of flavors. The bartender was really pleasant and attentive. I love the vibe of this place, it's very cozy and would be great for an intimate date or just a night out with friends! I also think that the menu may have been expanded since the last time I was in, so there is plenty to come back for! Thank you for a great meal!

Google
Wine tasting was very nice! The appetizers were a great compliment to the tasting. Humus quite tasty and the Ricotta + Honey on toasted baguette WTF…. OH YES!!!!
google avatar

Erin E.

Yelp
$7 cocktails on Wednesdays and Saturdays?! Yes please! This quaint place serves up delicious plates and cocktails and has a great assortment of wine. I sat outside on the back patio with some friends and we enjoyed the evening so much. We tried a variety of the cocktails since they were only $7. "Netflix and Chill" was our favorite. The goat cheese was our favorite bite. Our server was so kind and friendly. We plan to come back for $2 taco Tuesday!

Allie M.

Yelp
This place ROCKS. Great deals, cool staff, amazing selection and food. 10/10 Chacuterie was fantastic. Literally amazing and not over priced
google avatar

Yelp
I really like this place and have experienced it in several different ways now. Really good cocktails on a random evening in, amazing appetizers (I really like the goat cheese and honey), changing up Happy Hour deals, and our favorite, taco Tuesday where you get $2 Modelo, tequila shots, and tacos. The space is nice, if a little narrow. Service can be slow but is always nice.
google avatar

Mesy D.

Yelp
They get 5 stars for putting up with us. I was invited for an spur of the moment taco Tuesday. I sat at the bar with 5 friends and the table next to us was also part of the group. The group combined was very loud. Loud enough I think to make some folks uncomfortable. The servers were very gracious! They have $2 tequila shots, $5.00 margarita and tacos. The margarita was ok, I wish they had a freshly made mix but it was $5 right. The tacos were cool. Shots were Sauza. We had a ball. I give 3 stars for tacos. Again, 5 stars for them being so gracious!

Yelp
Had an hour to kill before the fundraiser event started. Loved the vibe and atmosphere of this space. Just beautiful inside. Learned it was only 5 years old. Nice selection of wine, beer and cocktails. Will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal little spot! If you're a cheese fiend, this is definitely the place for you. Charcuterie. Melted cheeses of all sorts. Sandwiches (with and without cheese.) And wonderfully crafted cocktails. Great date night spot!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Nestled in amongst the Hamilton Ave old commercial buildings, this place has charm. Patio is roomy while the inside is cozy. No loud music so conversation can survive. Service was very good but the kitchen was slightly off on their timing as my wife's tacos came out quickly but my brats took longer to get out. No big deal as the food was good and the atmosphere was pleasant. Street parking at $1.25 per hour from 8am to 9 pm.
google avatar

Kelli R.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. They have craft cocktail night on Saturday for 7 dollars. They also have 10 dollar bottles of wine! Didn't get food but I have before and it is amazing. In the summer there is a patio which is so cute but in the winter like now it is cozy and warm. Love the knowledgeable staff and friendly people. This is the only Northside place I would give 5 stars. Plan on returning very soon.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
The food was delicious, server and bartender were polite and friendly, ambience was pleasant and chill. We sat outside and enjoyed a bottle of wine and some tasty food. A real gem ! Looking forward to returning soon.

Yelp
This place really is delightful. My partner and I opted for the hummus plate (the hummus flavor rotates, and we were delighted to find out today's flavor was dill) and the charcuterie board. I remember coming here about a year ago for the amazing vegan charcuterie, but that was not listed on the current menu. Though it is worth the ask-it was delicious. The hummus was an ample portion with carrots, celery, and pita bread for dipping. Likewise the charcuterie was quite large and came with 3 meats, 3 cheeses, a variety of pickled offerings like baby dills, olives, pickled beets, pickled artichokes, and mustard, apple butter, and crostini. We did not leave hungry. I tried both the jalapeno margarita (good, but not spicy) and the summer BBC (delicious and boozy). The service was also exceptional and attentive and I'd recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a fancier date night but not too frou-frou in either ambiance or pricing. Just a really solid, "I feel like treating myself" spot.

Yelp
The Hamilton is quiet and intimate with fantastic cocktails and simple, good food. The service is thoughtful and attentive. I've been three or four times; very consistent. Check it out!

Yelp
Amazing food and the service was on point!! Thanks for making my husband's birthday special

Yelp
This place is so very cozy, I love the ambiance. I had 2 cocktails, and both were made very well. They were delicious. We had the Beer Cheese & Pretzel, and the Northside charcuterie. Both were very yummy, and I do believe it was the best beer cheese I have ever had. The service was great! Looking forward to going back. This was my first time here and it did not disappoint.

Amy R.

Yelp
The Hamilton is such a gem! Stopped in for a pre dinner cocktail and sat on the patio. The patio is such a lovely space. Lots of plants and cozy seating. Also shaded at that time of day (6 PM). I had a Summer BBC and a spicy margarita, and my husband (2) Kentuckians. All were delicious. The Summer BBC was especially refreshing. We ordered the honey and ricotta. Again, delicious, and perfect as a pre dinner snack. This place is something special. Be sure to stop in!

Yelp
Wow, this place is Mecca for foodie/winey/boozie folk like me. Smart selection of wines, including very nice bottles you can enjoy at retail prices. Try Rombauer Chardonnay for about $10 a glass, a Sancerre for $6.50, two Amarones for less than $15 a glass...are you kidding me? You'd pay 2x-3x at other restaurants. They also offer a solid slate of craft cocktails. I tried the Kentuckian, which found s very interesting midpoint between Manhattan and Sazerac; subtle and thoroughly delicious. The eats are mostly high-end happy hour stuff, including terrific charcuterie and goat cheese boards, but they have a few salads and handhelds that could make for a full meal. Great atmosphere that's both classic and hip; friendly staff; terrific value. You really can't go wrong here.

Kathleen V.

Yelp
Wonderful find in Cincinnati! The food was great!! Loved the Beer cheese and pretzels. The drinks were tasty and the service was the best!!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend lives in College Hill and introduced me to the Hamilton last night. Man! I am glad she did. Situated in Northside, it appears to be a friendly, neighborhood spot. They have Taco Tuesday with $2 tacos and $5 margaritas. The tacos are fine and the bartender has mastered the simple margarita, using just fresh lime, house-made simple syrup and tequila. I can totally see myself becoming a regular. Lol. Cheers!

Yelp
This bar is appropriately named The Hamilton. It's located on Hamilton Avenue. They have an Alexander Hamilton theme. Good cocktails. There's also some food that's fancier than typical bar stuff. Inside it looks like it's been there awhile. Not really, because this bar is pretty new. There's lots of exposed brick, which makes it seem rustic. All the signature cocktails sound good. Too many to choose from, but anything you choose should be okay. Cocktails here are about $10, but they also have a happy hour. I had the Treasurer. Another appropriate name. Hamilton was Treasurer of the United Stated of course, so this is like the signature drink here. It also has some food. This seems like pretty fancy stuff. Charcuterie is assumed to be meaty. Vegetarians can get it however because they have a version made from tofu. Overall a very good bar. Excellent cocktails. The food is healthy and vegetarian friendly too.

Yelp
The husband and I had a small bar date here, and we enjoyed our visit. I started with the Raspberry Beret cocktail ($9) - housemade raspberry vodka, lemon, and raspberry liqueur. My husband had the Delaney cocktail ($8) - Pimm's Blackberry Elderflower, lemonade, and prosecco. Strong start to our bar/dining experience. I also ordered the Streetcar ($8) - brandy, hibiscus liqueur, triple sec, and lemon juice. I don't think I'm much of a brandy fan. As others have noted, they have a fair amount of vegetarian options, which is great to see! We shared the Modern Fondue ($14) - Gruyere, Port Salut, white cheddar, apple, fried artichoke, pear jam, and crostini. We also shared the Warm Goat Cheese ($12) - whipped goat cheese, roasted garlic and tomatoes, sundried tomato, basil, and crostini. They were both tasty dishes. Literally the only complaint we had about our experience was that we were charged $2 for the additional crostini we asked for. Considering we'd already paid $26 for just our food (both items served with crostini), I would think it would be reasonable to expect that an adequate amount of bread be provided to complete the dish.

Kayla R.

Yelp
The drinks were really good and they have a cute outdoor seating area. The food however....needs a LOT of help. The charcuterie was not pleasant at all and I've never met. Charcuterie board I didn't like. The cheeses were squares and one of them was Swiss, which is not something you want or expect on a charcuterie. The pickled veggies were inedible and tastes like perfume. I ordered soup and it was unpleasant looking and even worse tasting. I really had high hopes because of the reviews but I'm guessing it's for the drinks and ambiance and not food.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Good food, good wine, great staff. I've been here a couple of times and will definitely keep in my list of places to visit when on night on the town.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
The Hamilton is a great place hang out with friends for a light meal and drinks. In good weather, there is a quaint small patio space, and in all weather the main seating area is cozy. They have excellent and innovative mixed drinks, and the servers and owner are very friendly.

Mike P.

Yelp
Went here for a wine tasting they were having and discovered a hidden Northside gem. Food was great and very affordable as were the drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Jessi C.

Yelp
Came here for date night with my husband last night. When we walked in on Wednesday around 6:30pm, it was pretty empty. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and offered food and drink recommendations. I got the Vesta cocktail, which was strong but a little too bitter for me, so I think next time I will get wine or beer. Their menu is small plates with lots of veggie friendly options. They even have a vegan charcuterie board! We got the modern fondue ($14) and the Northside charcuterie board ($15). Both were really yummy and reasonably priced for what you got. The cheese selections on the charcuterie board were good, and it comes with their homemade hummus and pickled veg. The fondue was tasty, but heated up by a tiny candle so it wasn't too hot...We probably should have waited a little longer to let it heat up more but we were hungry! Overall, this is a nice bar and tapas style restaurant. I'll be coming back for that vegan charcuterie board because I have to try it!

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Great food, always fresh tasting. Excellent cocktails and wine all at reasonable prices.

AL P.

Yelp
Went for a ladies night, and the food and service was amazing! The cost for food and cocktails were very reasonable! Would recommend for a fun evening or romantic night out.
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and signature cocktail drinks. The charcuterie board is not to be missed when you visit! Will totally be going back for the service, drinks, and apps.
google avatar

Eileen F.

Yelp
Amateurs Welcome! If you've visited almost any other establishment offering charcuterie and wine, I recommend sticking to one of those. That said, if you're 21 and want to take a chick your age to a "wine bar," before heading back to your house in Clifton with 6 roommates and one bathroom - THIS IS YOUR SHIT. These are the "need to knows": 1. Buy your wine in a bottle, believe me, it'll be cheaper than letting Katie get herself a couple of fun cocktails. 2. At grown up wine bars, or basically anywhere else, when you a buy a bottle of wine, they give you a little taste as soon as they open the bottle, you nod politely, and then they pour for you and your date. Not here! So you can either make a thing out of it (Katie might like that), or go with the flow (Katie won't know any different, will she?). And bottles are typically under $20 so it might be worth just going with it. 3. EVERYTHING on the menu comes with stale crostini. But again, prices are on point. Have Katie bring some Stacy's Pita in her purse. Worth iiiiit! 4. Portions are huge. Big win for you, bro. Just get a couple of items. 5. Avoid the charcuterie. Black bean hummus in a cute little dish is still just black bean hummus. The pickled asparagus is as limp, pale and unappetizing as your pecker after two cheap bottles of the wine here (photo attached), rated PG. Two stars for the pricing and quantity. Good luck, bro.
google avatar

Shanita S.

Yelp
Didn't expect it but, The Hamilton was truly epic. This place is pretty solid. The Hamilton has an amazing Raspberry Beret, give it a try I believe you would love it, I certainly love it. The workers are extremely attentive and nice and they're great at giving recommendations. Definitely check it out.
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Nice little bar with a great jazz band this.waitress was lovely had the 2.00 tacos weren't to tasty. The area were the restaurant was located was cute.
google avatar

Trisha E.

Yelp
Any time I post a negative review (I'm looking at you, Dewey's), I feel compelled to post a positive review about another place. What can I say, I'm a nice midwestern girl at heart. I want to be kind. We've been to The Hamilton a few times. The vibe is very "new school" Northside. It's still got a little grit to it but it's pretty sanitized. The menu is small but has a nice variety including a greater than normal number of vegetarian options. (Normal for the rest of the city, maybe about average for Northside!) They have a nice, unique cocktail menu and decent beer & wine selection. A few fun things that make it stand out: - There has always been some sort of entertainment. From a solo violin player (very fun) to a small jazz ensemble to the always popular bar trivia. - Nightly drink specials. Enough said. - They have a weekly bottle $10 bottle special from their wine shop. I don't care who ya are, that's a good deal! And they don't carry your "run of the mill" choices. You can find some interesting options. Come for happy hour and bring a bottle home to have with dinner. Service has generally been good. Attentive but not overbearing. That's enough for us. All in all, it's an easy place to go and hang out. While you're there, check out the wallpaper in the bathroom. (Yeah, I'm including a reference to the bathroom in my review.)
google avatar

Angelina K.

Yelp
Love this little place. The small plates and cocktails are perfect for a fun night out with friends. The only thing I would suggest is some kind of sound absorption. When it is crowded it is impossible to have a conversation. I definitely prefer to come when it is less busy so I can enjoy my drinks and conversation.
google avatar

T ..

Yelp
Great quality and creative small plates, fairly priced, and a small collection of curated cocktails. We didn't try beer or wine this time, but there were nice happy hour specials for both on Thursday evening all night. Looking forward to the addition of a dessert menu! Much like The Littlefield and Northside Yacht Club, it is really the epitome of Northside becoming a more low key and high quality version of OTR. I'm a fan.
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
The management of Bistro Grace across the street has done it again. An upscale, friendly neighborhood wine bar that is well needed. One no longer needs to go to OTR to get the urban upscale feel. Apps are the perfect pairing with the fine wines that are served.
google avatar

Dawn C.

Yelp
Dark, romantic spot on Hamilton Ave in Northside. The bar has lots of great, creative cocktails and beer & wine selections. There is a very small bar menu but all items on it are delicious and on point. Do not go to the Hamilton if you want dinner. This is a bar with a great atmosphere and small plates to accompany the exotic spirits. Enjoy!
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
This place is so eclectic and unique! Came here for my mom's birthday and we ordered a series of appetizers, none of which were bad! However, most of the appetizers came with bread or crackers, and the amount of dip to bread was absurd. We requested more bread four times, and still had leftover dip. And when they brought out "extra bread", they brought out literally five small rounds, and we ended up being charged for the extra bread. Despite this, the appetizers were delicious and the service was good!
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
YUM! I went here for happy hour Taco Tuesday and the tacos were awesome! I also had a beer, so I can't speak to their cocktails. The vibe was romantic and I would definitely recommend this place for a first date. The lighting was low with candles and the furniture was beautiful.
google avatar

Katrina L.

Yelp
Highly recommend getting a cocktail here! The charcuterie looked great, but we had eaten already. I'd like to come back at another time to try the food! Loved the bourbon and gin drinks. Can't remember the name of my drink, but it involved gin, lemonade, basil and cherry liqueur - YUM! Also, service was amazing! Our bartender was so friendly. I am looking forward to coming back!
google avatar

Meli B.

Yelp
What a great new spot to add to Northside. We went in on a Wednesday to find out that all of their crafted cocktails are $5 on Wednesdays. The feel strikes me as a speakeasy type vibe in terms of decor once you get inside, but the place does have a store front and all that. They also have some amazing small plates that are actually not small at all so that's a plus! They really can be shared appetizer type plates. The service was also very friendly. We had the Kentuckian and the Aviator cocktails which were quite nice and very good for the price on Wednesdays especially. We had the calamari and potato and chorizo dish as well as the warm goat cheese. They did not disappoint. The plates were crafted as well as the drinks. Very flavorful with contrasting textures and ingredients. They are also a bottle shop with a great wine selection.
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
My husband and I had a great experience Saturday night! The warm goat cheese and stuffed falafel were both generous size and filled us for dinner. My husband got the wine special and I had two delicious Mocktails at the bartenders recommendation. We'll be back!
google avatar

Lara B.

Yelp
If you like great wine suggestions at a discount, plus awesome food, dig in. Bartender Bridgette is way cool.
google avatar

Joan L.

Yelp
Holy yummy! Been wanting to check out and so happy we did. Flavor explosion in the small plates. We ordered calamari & potatoes, northside charcuterie, trio of eggplant, and modern fondue. All so amazing and pleased all tastes. Delicious craft cocktail (the Kirby) oddly fantastic. Whooda thunk tequila and Malbec. The rumhattan spiced rum, middle orange, simple, sweet vermouth, & orange bitters. $3 domestics! Beautiful interior finishes
google avatar

Maggie F.

Yelp
I love the charcuterie board, particularly the pickled veggies! I wish the food menu was a little more broad, and a couple more beer options.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Comfy little spot in Northside with great drink options and specials. The warm goat cheese plate was SO yummy. I did have to ask for more bread. The other food was not great, chicken just taste like it was microwaved, too chewy.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
The place looks nice but has a kind of snobby vibe if that makes sense. The server ignored us for a good few minutes before he even brought me a glass of water. Then ignored us even longer before he took our order. We pretty much gathered that as soon as he knew we weren't ordering drinks, he was not prepared to be very attentive to us. All 3 of us are vegan. I've been vegan for 10 years and my friends are vegan for health issues. One of them can have some serious health issues if he consumes dairy. The waiter said to us "I don't know how vegan you are, there is a drizzle of sauce that goes on top of the dish that is dairy based, should we put it on the side" and we were all like "no sauce." We were all 3 strict vegans and the menu said the items were vegan. There is no sliding scale of veganism, and most vegans don't eat vegan as a "sometimes" thing. Then, once we were finished, he asked if we would be having "dessert cocktails, or dessert cocktails." After we declined alcohol in the beginning. I cannot drink, I'm a recovering alcoholic. I felt pressured to drink alcohol here. The dish I ordered was "stuffed falafel" and it was not a falafel at all. It was a bread ball with stuffing in it. Nothing falafel about it. And also as an alcoholic, do not order anything with the tofu that is wine cured. My friends said it tasted like straight-up alcohol. I probably will not be back to this establishment, which is a shame because we were so excited about how many (seemingly) vegan options there are. And in fact it made me scared my meal was not fully vegan after the drizzle question. Not everyone drinks, that doesn't mean they don't deserve a quality dining experience.
google avatar

Sean D.

Yelp
The perfect wine bar. Interesting wines, great food, cool bartender. Wine prices are essentially retail. Good lighting, a turntable with classic tunes.
google avatar

Michael F. P.

Yelp
It was good until we were thrown out. The food is great, the drinks are good and the waitress was nice. But the bartender (/owner?) ruined it for us. Don't get me wrong, you might have a great night here under different circumstances.
google avatar

Helen A.

Yelp
I love this place! The chef is amazing. Great vegan, vegetarian and omnivore options. The "small plates" were generous and filling . We actually ordered more than we could eat.The goat cheese with roasted tomatoes and garlic on crustini was amazing. The Tofu Charcuterie was so fresh and flavorful - vegan heaven! My omnivore friends had the potatoes and calamari and the fondue and they loved every bite. The wine is priced at retail prices. The service was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful service! Had two small plates. The vegan charcuterie and the warm goat cheese platter. It was exquisite! Perfect for a summer evening! Highly recommend!!
