I was really looking forward to brunch at the Hampton Social Streeterville with friends while visiting Chicago. The friends we met there recommended it highly.
Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to its reputation.
While the food was good, it wasn't great enough to make up for the mediocre service.
The steak and egg dish was a good brunch option. The sirloin was cooked as ordered as was the fried egg--not too runny.
The fish sandwich, a crispy fried cod with a slice of cheddar and tartar, was very filling. I ordered French fries with it (for an extra charge), but apparently they forgot about them. I waited for a while, and when I realized they weren't coming, I canceled the order with a server or perhaps a manager.
A few minutes later, another server brought the fries and apologized for the delay. They said they would take the charge off the bill.
The other items our group had were good, but I'm not sure they stood out among the many restaurants in the area.
The service, as evidenced by the missing fries, was very spotty. At times, we would have very rapid check-ins from different servers, but other times they would disappear for long stretches. Our local friends said they had not experienced that level of service before and were surprised by it.
The noise level was very high, and at some point the restaurant added very loud music--in a place that didn't seem to have any noise-dampening panels. It made it very difficult to have a conversation on a Sunday morning.
It was an OK experience, but I don't think I would go back.
